  • Is Henrik Fisker's latest automotive offering, his greatest?
    By Nauman Farooq
Henrik Fisker has given the world many exciting vehicles, such as the BMW Z8, the Aston Martin DB9 and V8 Vantage, the Fisker Tramonto - Latigo CS V10 - Karma plug-in hybrid, the Galpin Fisker Mustang Rocket, and the VLF Force 1 V10 - just to name a few!
Now, he has attached his name to an electric crossover, but is it any good?
To find out, I was invited to the Toronto leg of the Fisker Ocean's Canadian tour - and here's what I think!
Styling: Henrik has given the world many gorgeous, exotic automobiles. Compared to those, the Fisker Ocean - which is a EV CUV - is not as exciting to look at; however, compared to other electric toasters on wheels, it is quite good! On style, I'd give it an 8/10.
Interior: Open the door, and you'll be impressed! Not just by the look and layout of things, but also quality. Given this is the first product under Fisker Inc. I was worried that quality might not be very high; but a quick glance put me at rest - this is a well put together product.
On top of that, it also has clever features, such as a solar panel roof which also helps charge the car, an infotainment screen that can turn from portrait mode to landscape mode, and California mode - which opens up all the windows and the giant sunroof.
I also found the layout of controls to fall easily at hand, and the driving position was good. There is also ample room for five people, and the trunk is fairly large, too - 16.81 cu ft behind the second row, and 32.43 cu ft if you fold away the back seats!
So, for the interior, I'd give it a 9/10.
Safety: As you'd expect, you have airbags coming at you from all directions, and three-point safety belts for all occupants - so it should (hopefully) keep you alive in a crash! Let's say, 8/10.
Powertrain: Two versions are on offer. The base model has one motor that powers the front wheels and is good for 275 HP. With an 80 kWh battery pack, it'll give you a 400 km range.
Dual motor versions are all-wheel drive, and are good for 468 HP (which rises to 568 HP in boost mode). These have a 113 kWh battery pack, and is good for a 580 km range. 7/10.
Performance: The dual motor version can sprint from 0-100 km/h in 3.7 seconds, and top out at 225 km/h - fast enough for transporting your groceries, if you ask me! Score - 7/10.
Driving Dynamics: In all honesty, this is the part I was most worried about, and the fact that the vehicle was launched before proper media drives hinted that it might not actually be any good!
I shouldn't have worried, because Henrik never does a half-baked job with anything, and this is no exception. The Fisker Ocean is smooth, comfortable, handles well enough, and is quick - make that, really quick.
The steering is quite light, and doesn't give too much feedback, but it is no worse than a Polestar 2 or a Cadillac Lyriq. Is there room for improvement? Sure, but you can bet Henrik is working on it already! 7/10 on DD.
Efficiency: Given the size of the battery and the proposed range, the Ocean is quite efficient. Score: 8/10.
Pricing: The base Ocean Sport is priced in Canada from $43,999. The dual motor Ocean Ultra is yours $63,999. The launch edition Ocean One and the loaded Ocean Extreme are both $89,999.
I'd say, this is priced rather well - so, a 9/10.
Verdict: As a first product from a new company, the Fisker Ocean is very impressive! It might not be Henrik Fiskers greatest automotive offering to the world, but given his past catalog, he himself is a hard act to follow.
As for products under Fisker Inc., they will only get better from here!
    Total score: 63/80 - that's very good!

Glad to see Fisker crossing the border up North. Even the lowest trim offering 400km of range is amazing. Some models of Audi's eTron were getting slightly above 350km real world range.
I hope Fisker is confident enough to allow press vehicles for real world range tests by reviewers. If 400km is actually achievable, then the base Model Ocean Sport is an absolute steal.
Now the question is, can they deliver these in a timely manner? 1 year or less.

Canadian sales will likely start in the spring, and they'll be sold through Fisker's own stores - like Tesla and Vinfast. Real world range... time will tell, but we are also hoping for a proper press unit, so we can do full-on testing!
