9th century Britain was a time of heroes, conquerors and bloodshed. The Vikings and Saxons were at each other’s throats, with the Saxons resisting the raids and wars waged by the heathen Norsemen. Guthrum was a Viking war lord who would go on to lead a fragment of the great heathen army and his very name would make Saxon Kings tremble in fear. Guthrum would fight alongside the sons of the legendary Ragnar Lothbrok and would be scourge of Wessex, bringing the kingdom to its knees. This is his story.

Viking and Samurai history are my favorites. When the ships were made of wood, men were made of steel.
I think Guthrum's story would be a great concept for a movie, especially about his rivalry and eventual friendship with Alfred the Great
Alfred and Guthrum's story would make a great movie! Guthrum nearly had the whole of Wessex in his grasp!
The Last Kingdom season 1
I've never seen that show. Is it good?
@@carrioncrow7687 it actually is really good, I would recommend it
@@carrioncrow7687watch it if you have not already
It just goes to show how resourceful he was to have lost it all to somehow regain it.
I liked his story in the *The Last Kingdom* showing that it was mostly everyone around him and the looming death of his son and how downtrodden they made him seem. Pulling through the funk
Thank you so much for watching Shane! I hope you enjoyed the video!
A few things- Guthrums forces joining the GHA are generally assumed to be the mainstay of the Great Summer Army; you missed out the wreck of hundreds of Viking ships of the coast of Dorset, and how Guthrum only took over after Halfdan left with the mainstay of the Army to take the north and Ireland.
But your narration is excellent, it’s very well put together and very entertaining. Bravo.
Another excellent producción from HP. The formation of England is a fascinating area of wars and uncertainty.
He was a great warrior indeed, and in the end, he found that he didn't have to fight and kill all the time to find a place to call his own.
My name is Guthrum
But everybody calls me the Unlucky
For my plans always did waver
At the time of its wager
When the great army did coalesce
It was I who did the most possess
Yet it was not I who was the leader
It was the boneless Ivar
When the summer army did roll
It was I who swallowed up Kingdoms whole
Yet on Ivar’s death, anger was my only outlet
For it was Ubba’s hands which the sceptre did get
All till London was in my grasp
It was I who held all like an asp
Yet rejoicement was never in my musical tones
For it was the Christians who won at Edington
Now, a Christian am I
To the Nazarene listen do I
Yet do I ask of him this single time
For I still don't, after all this time
Please do tell
If there is any truth to the tale
Am I man who is unlucky too much
Or just a man who dreamt too much
My name is Guthrum
But everybody calls me the Unlucky
For discontent is in my heart
And I am never happy
Please reply with constructive criticism
Loved it
I thought that was great! The only bit I would try and change would be the last 2 lines of the 3rd paragraph.. I just don't think it sounds right. Loved it! Well Done 👍
Thank you so much for sharing, I learned a lot about warriors and Kings of the past. Absolutely great channel. Keep it up!
Thank you so much for watching Elke! Your kind words mean a lot to me!

Please do Siward Jarl/Earl of Northumbria (Era of Canute The Great).
Can you do a video about the Swed (Uppsala) Ragnar Lodbrok?
May the gods bless you.
He’s buried 5 minutes from my house in hadleigh Suffolk
That's so cool. Have you ever visited the gravesite?
Can you do a video on Egbert of Wessex? He conquered Devon, Cornwall & Kent, greatly expanding Wessex and he saved his people from Danes.
Or Brian Boru, one of the greatest high kings of Ireland who won many many battles and didn’t lose any.
Can you do a video on Genghis Khan please
Just goes to show that the power of Christ will compel!💪😊👍
this name is still in used in Iceland, Feroislands and Norway.
Very interesting. Thank You. My maiden name was Goodrum and my DNA shows 17% Sweden and Denmark, so I am interested in learning about Guthrum.
Greetings Ollie. I wonder if any of us ever reincarnated from those Saxons and Vikings?
War-faring folks,blood thirsty and GREEDY.
Yes, some of them came back as Bezos, Musk, and Zuckerberg.
I also wonder about that stuff its a very interesting concept!
@@adoxartist1258 Lol. Sorrrooows, Fauci, Vourla, Swab, Trudeau, Macron, Mitsotakis, the WHO guy, Bobama, Churchill, Stalin and Lenin. Of course hitler.

The last kingdom?
God I wish, isn't that something we could have left in our less enlightened past.
I guess you're a heathen if you don't comply so that makes me one as well, nice.
Wow so cool how powerful a true Christian is to build peace integrate enemies and forgive. Alfred was something else
True christian? Hahahahaha
Alfred truly was something else! Most people would have given up when he lost everything and went into exile in the marshes of somerset
Lmao. Don't be naive
@@drewtoler3135 right. Religion then was the same as now. An excuse to control people and justify what "great" men did.
@@drewtoler3135 naive? What is naive most dont take as God child someone who tried to kill them destroy their life their family and their legacy.
Too bad. England and Europe would be better off staying faithful to the Norse Gods than submitting to a foreign religion.
