The Ioniq 5 N is a cool car, it's range is just too low (200-ish), and it's way too expensive ($68k+). And EV haters won't stop hating EV's from this video, unfortunately. I bet if they gave an EV a real chance and lived with one for a week or a month, they'd end up loving them. But they won't give them a chance so it's pointless even discussing things with them. Again, they're closed minded.
Because it won't significantly increase the range. The model 3 for instance doesn't lose any of the motor efficiency until after 80mph. The complexity of adding gears just isn't worth it. Look up field weakening of various ev cars and you can see where they are less efficient
because electric motors produce power/torque regardless of what rpm's they are at - there isn't a (relatively) narrow power and efficiency band like there is with an internal combustion engine which is why you need a range of gears to keep the engine in the sweet spot.
The limitations of a gas engine spinning at 8k rpm vs a electric motor spinning at 18k rpm. Plus electric makes torque through the whole power band. Now if you’re going for top speed? That’s a different story.

@@Momo_8k average people do not track semi trucks like that, and the racing semi trucks that we do have, are full race level tuned. This is a street car. Could not care in the slightest. If the demand was so great for EV vehicles manufacturers would be dropping all ICE production to meet demand but yeah hows that going?
Well to be fair it's because everyone but tesla, Hyundai, and porsche are not making profit off of them. BMW just sold more ev in Europe than tesla last month so there is still mor market capture happening
When new technology replaces another. It’s usually from a new company. The problem is the older companies get set in their ways and what they make. They get comfortable in the profits and the day to day. They stop innovating or miss the next big thing. It’s a natural part of capitalism. We’ve seen it play out hundreds of times in our lifetimes. Then mass production of the new product makes it cheaper and more and more people get one making it mainstream. Just like cars, flat screens, phones, computers and the internet. All innovations that destroyed older companies business models.
Where I am from, the issue is not the EVs per say, but infrastructure. As many chargers as we get, it is still not convenient for everyone to have an EV compared to ICE and fueling up. At the moment EV charge infrastructure is dragging behind, while EVs keep picking up, and there will be people who do not stick with EV if options allow it, because of inconvenience. In the end of the day the car should be convenience improver and if that does not work, it does not work regardless of propulsion.
I don't hate EVs but no one makes an EV that my family or I would want. We don't want a toy. We want a family hauler. The ionic 5 would be a downgrade of 20ft³ of cargo space compared to our ICE wagon. Our current vehicle will go over 500 miles on a fill up and it is easy to park in the garage. Canoo vehicles aren't available yet but that's the only EV that has my attention right now.

But there's nothing like some ICE power to get you in your weekend feels !!
This is an interesting perspective to me. I have only owned ICE econoboxes, and mean-spirited PHEV untill I got my hands on performance EVs. I can't compare to powerful ICE as I have never tried one, but the EV power is quite addictive. I could say I am too poor to maintain performance ICE and keep it 99% fresh, compared to EV drivetrain. The amount of moving parts and convenience of electricity access is what gets me on top of gut punch power.

Ev is here but keeping in mind it's a heavy vehicle, what's a set of tires cost? These probably have different wheels and tires for the EV like other brands EV versions of their cars do. Daily driver, sure tire cost might not be as big of factor, but you probably don't wanna be shredding tires at the track too often with one of these.
As I discovered the geometry and stance counts, also all the electric fairies keeping your car pointed can help with weight management. For the size of SUV this car hides its weight well, but still you can't cheat physics. Fresh set of performance tires will offset you about 1500 Eur (very roughly)

Yes, I am closed minded to an overpriced gimmick car that is boring to drive, that I don't really own, and am not allowed to repair or modify myself.
Have you driven an Ioniq 5N? It's a blast. Go test drive one, or shut up about it being boring.
There's a reason why they're conservative bigots
Why do you even care keep D riding EV we'll keep hating. Don't need be a control freak people do what they want
Name me an ICE car with the same performance for $68k.
I dont understand why ev makers dont add gears. It will significantly increase range and save even more battery power
Because it won't significantly increase the range. The model 3 for instance doesn't lose any of the motor efficiency until after 80mph. The complexity of adding gears just isn't worth it. Look up field weakening of various ev cars and you can see where they are less efficient
I agree with the first part of your sentence, “I don’t understand.”
because electric motors produce power/torque regardless of what rpm's they are at - there isn't a (relatively) narrow power and efficiency band like there is with an internal combustion engine which is why you need a range of gears to keep the engine in the sweet spot.
The limitations of a gas engine spinning at 8k rpm vs a electric motor spinning at 18k rpm. Plus electric makes torque through the whole power band.
Now if you’re going for top speed? That’s a different story.

Nobodies talking about how consumables (tires, brakes, bushings, axles) are going to be used up on this thing quickly due to the weight, and then Hyundai isn’t going to fix it because “you tracked it” and then you are going to have broken EV
I didn't realize we as a society have never engineered durable components for vehicles that weigh more than passengers cars -semi trucks duellys passenger vans buses-
Some engineers better get on that, ASAP!
@@Momo_8k average people do not track semi trucks like that, and the racing semi trucks that we do have, are full race level tuned. This is a street car. So track this thing, inevitably break something (because if you track anything, something will break) and then see that Hyundai won’t fix it because it was tracked. Then you will be screwed because there aren’t many specialty shops that work on EV. You could possibly do it yourself, but you need specialty tools because it weights as much as a boat. @@tumsfestival8027 oh, you're referring to the very specific instance of _tracking an ev_ ?

My sarcasm exists because your point is 1) very, very specific to the point that its laughable, 2) exists in a vacuum where we already don't have nearly a century of suspension engineering, over multiple disciples and weight classes, to ensure product longevity, 3) disregards all other precedence for tracking any car, regardless of propulsion.

It’s not hyper specific issue because it’s extremely relevant to any car that’s claiming to be trackable. And it’s not a vacuum because even with a century of engineering they still haven’t overcome the laws of physics. Heavier cars use consumables faster. It is what it is
