P.S. I just love and admire how you care for your cat family. I'm the same w/ my "Boys," only the best for them - they pretty much own the place and only let me stay here. Goodnight!
P.P.S. Well, I've had it with the dust, the tracking, the heavy bags - and you've helped convince me so I just now ordered up the "XL" Kit along w/ some extra pellets & pads. My boys are pretty darn easy-going and I don't think it'll be any problem transitioning them over. Sure appreciate your helping the rest of us out with your videos, thank you again & blessings your way and your beautiful little family, too...
Great review. A lot of written reviews didn't talk about the maintenance of this system, so this helped me get a better understanding of what I'm getting into. The pellets they list are expensive, but it looks like we don't need to replace them often.
I'm glad it helped! Yes, about the only time I need to change out ALL the pellets is if one of my kitties has diarrhea. Otherwise, they stay pretty clean, and I add clean pellets just to top it up and replace what gets thrown away with scooping. I've also received comments from other people who decided to use cheap pine pellet litter instead. I tried it too, and it works, but since the pine pellets break down when they get moist, I ended up doing more maintenance cleaning up all the sawdust from the litter pan grate and the floor around the box.
Thanks! 😅 That was entirely thanks to Toby there. He has a tendency to "christen" any freshly cleaned litter boxes. I'm glad he did it when he did since, like you said, it is nice to see what to expect.
We had the pellets forever. Switched to a pine and bought the purple lavender pads to go into the spill bay. Not once in a year has there been any pee on the pad itself. The pee absorbed into the pine and creates a saw dust that falls right on the pad. Just pull the pad out and your done. $6 bag of organic pine for 40lbs vs $20 for 3.5 lbs.
Yes, the pine is a big money saver. My only hang up with it is when the saw dust gets stuck in the grate of the litter pan. Doesn't really effect the functionality but it can trap and exacerbate the urine odor if it doesn't get cleaned out often.
@@ashleydavies3374 Hi! I usually go with Feline Pine because most pet supply store carry it (in the U.S. at least) and it is cheap. www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/feline-pine-cat-litter You could probably get away with using the recycled paper pellets (like Yesterday's News) as well, but they absorb liquid even faster than the pine and kind of defeat the purpose of the draining tray feature. Hope that helps!
Thank you so much for a comprehensive video of this system. We have been trying to decide on whether to get one or not and you definitely made that decision for us. It looks awesome! We have a big boy too - 19 lbs. and a tiny girl as well, so it should be perfect for us. Thanks again for doing such a great job to show how this works and also on how to use the wipes to keep it clean between times. Toby is so beautiful by the way. Take care!
Thank you! I also tell Toby he's a handsome boy everyday. :-D I'm glad you found the video useful! I'm trying to find time to do a follow up video now that they've been using the box for a good while now, but it's been so crazy lately. Note to self: don't move house during a pandemic. :-P I hope it works out well for your fur babies! ❤️
@@lathafalls7675 well I guess I had it easy, I put it in the box and she started using it right away. I heard if you mix it with litter that she use to it might work.
Glad it helped! I just bought another one for myself to help extend how long the pads last. Eventually I want to try some of the suggestions in other comments; pine pellets, sawdust in the tray, etc.
You're very welcome! Let me know if you have any other questions about the system. I'll be buying another XL system for another room since I just moved and want to have at least one box per cat since I have more room now.
I'm so grateful that you posted the 2 videos that you did! I just watched both. I switched to breeze last year but was looking at XL box because we'll be adding a second kitty soon. I was worried that the pee pads would be different so I'm glad you showed they both use the same. :) great job and cute kitties 😸
@@meowlo4949I have been using this Horse bedding like people have suggested and it smells so bad. I have never used the pellets it came with. I think I will try that!!!
@@amybradley9323 I hardly smell it with the pellets. We have 3 cats now and just scoop solid once a day. I change the pad more than it recommends just because of our asthma. No dust is fantastic though
Hi! I know your comment was about a year ago, but I wanted to share a suggestion that a lot commenters have given me on these videos. To save $ on the pee pads a lot of people suggested filling the tray with those cheap pine litter pellets. Or lifting the green inner pan and putting a plastic litter box liner bag under it in the base filled with the pine pellets. Supposedly holds more, lasts longer, and controls odor better. Also, more environmentally friendly. 😉 Anyway, just thought I'd share since I scrolled across your comment again. Take care!
Quite helpful videos. Can you please show a video of how you deep clean system? Also. What brand of pellets do you use for the upper tray (green area)? Thanks.
@@QUiNTiNBANKS Awesome. I hope you like them. I have two of the XL and my original smaller one still. I really don't miss having crunchy clay or crystal litter stuck to my feet from all the tracking. A lot less waste to scoop and toss too! Hope they work out well for your fur babies!! 👍
Thanks for the review!!! I just purchased! I recently got a kitty and quickly got sick of the clumping clay litter. I’m a bit of a germaphobe and I feel like this system will be muchhhhh better. Thanks again
Congrats on the new little family member! I find it to be much cleaner than traditional litters. Since there is no clumping they won't be digging through those clumps, getting junk stuck under their claws and paws. Then tracking that all around the house. You'll probably want to empty out and deep clean the system every few months to prevent any residue build up and keep odor to a minimum. I've been wanting to do one more video showing how I deep clean it, but life has been a little crazy. Anyway, I hope you and your new kitty like the system, but if not for any reason, remember the money back guarantee. 😉 Take care!
@@TheArtymuse thanks so much for the tips! Also, have you had any issues with your cats trying to eat the pellet litter? I don’t know if my kitty is just try to feel it out but he keeps trying to chew on them and it’s making me nervous
@@TheArtymuse I put a piece of his feces from his old litter box in there so he’d know, hey this is a litter box and not food but, he was still walking in the box trying to eat some of the pellets 🤦🏾♂️
@@SimplyyMichaell I've had some other comments mention their cats playing with the pellets or picking them up in their mouth. Not many, but a couple. Tends to happen more with kittens and younger cats. If they do it a lot, I would recommend using a pine or paper pellet for a while to get them used to pellet litter first. The pine and paper pellets will break down if accidentally swallowed, but the Breeze pellets don't and could cause some issues. Once the box loses its "new" smell and kitty is used to it you should be able to switch back to the Breeze pellets. Pine pellets are cheap and great at odor control. You'll have some saw dust tracking since they do break down, but it's not as annoying as clay litter tracking. For now, I'd just keep an eye on it and see if the issue persists. Then decide on substituting the pellets if necessary. I keep a bag of pine pellets on hand anyway since they're highly absorbent and I sometimes use them in the pad tray instead of the pee pad. Good luck!
Glad to hear! I've kind of wondered how well it would function with other pellet types since they tend to absorb the liquid waste and break down over time. I'll have to give them a try sometime just to see.
I use pine pellets with the regular litter breeze the only difference is that I don’t use pads I just empty the drawer out by scooping out the saw dust daily. I have one litter breeze for five cats. As long as the drawer gets emptied out everyday you don’t have to worry about the saw dust over flowing. I’ve reas that others remove the drawer and place a little box under the system to avoid having to empty the saw dust every day as well as placing a puppy pad under to make clean up easier.
@@marlene8466 I just switched to the pine because my husband's nose is so sensitive he could smell it if there was nothing. What I did is bought the huge box of puppy pads for like 10$, and laid it along the bottom of the breeze, where the normal pad would go, but it's big enough it comes out of the sides. That way I can just take off the top, shake it a little, and lift up the 4 corners to clean, then replace with a new oversized pad. Of my 4 cats I think at least 1 is just not liking this new system, deterred by the smell of the pine. I hope she comes around
Brie Fennell That’s awesome ! Out of my five kittens only one of them is against going poop in any of the litter boxes I have placed for him. Luckily he’s fine with urinating in the box. He prefers to use the floor next to the litter box for his business which is fine with me it’s still easier to clean up than urine 😀
Thank you for this. I have the older box. My cat has diabetes so more urine than normal. Lately his back end is getting weak (about 16 years old) and is hanging out of the box. I think this hi side system will work for him. I put solids in Tin foil and put in my regular trash inside the house. No odors!
I hope it works better for him! Worth trying it since there's a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. Many people have recommended using pine litter in the tray to cut down on cost if you go through the pads quickly. I'd love to figure out a way to just have some kind of liquid vacuum underneath and a removable tank that could be emptied into the toilet. Would save so much waste!
@JustaMunchkin My cats took to it very quickly. I set it up next to their old box that had regular litter, and they were already using it on day 1. Every cat is different, and some have sensitive paws that may dislike the hard pellets. Luckily, the Breeze comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. So if your cat doesn't take to it by day 29, just pack it up and take it back to the store for a refund.
Hi! I've gotten many comments about using pine pellet litter, like feline pine. I've tried it with the Breeze in a few ways too... in place of the pads in the tray, in place of the zeolite breeze pellets in the box, and both together. I don't like using pine in the upper litter box because it breaks down into sawdust with moisture and clogs up the drain grate area. But it works pretty well down in the pad tray and is a good, cheap alternative to the pads if you want a more eco friendly option. Though it's a bit messier to clean up when it breaks down into sawdust.
I love mine too. I put a tall walmart air purifier next to mine to help with the normal minimal odor. I'm thinking of putting backing soda pads in the 4 small sections in the urine tray for extra odor control. March 7, 2023.
Good ideas! I have also put odor absorbers in the extra space below the tray and it definitely helped. The odor absorbing "beads" from Nature's Miracle worked pretty well.
i have the original breeze system and have always used the pine pellets with it. works great. you can get a big 40 lb. bag of pine pellets at tractor supply for $5.99. although these pellets are designed for horses- it does say on the package you can use them for smaller animals as well = like cats and guinea pigs. the main difference between feline pine and these - these pellets are little harder and tougher- obviously to withstand the weight of a horse- but the pellets will breakdown into sawdust almost immediately - you just rake and the sawdust falls onto the pad below. A much cheaper option for sure.
@@mlady6564 I haven't tried it yet myself, but I assume you just need to pack in a thin layer and dump it out once it gets too saturated or smelly. Seems like a cheaper, more eco-friendly option to the pee pads. I'll pick up some pine litter next time I go to the pet store and give it a shot in one of my Breeze systems.
@@mlady6564 you have about 1/2 inch to 1 inch of space - i usually dump once a week - I still use the pad with it - because once you empty it - there is nothing in the bottom tray at first to catch the urine - sometimes you don't even need to change the pad once the sawdust is there- I just hold the pad with my thumb and dump and if pad looks okay I reuse- if not it goes in the trash as well
@@TheArtymuse the thing with the pine pellets is as soon as they get wet they turn to saw dust, they never actually get saturated with anything. You obviously have to remove the solids daily or whatever your schedule is, but the liquid never really makes it past the top. You sit out the sawdust, then everything that is left in the box is essentially still fresh clean litter, so there is no need to ever change out the whole thing again, unless you wanna deep clean it. And it only ever smells of pine when I go near it, even right after I caught a kitty going #1
The green litter tray is shaped like a shallow bowl with the slits located at the lowest point. So, any liquid will still drain down. I believe they engineered it that way to be compatible with the existing pee pads. Since those aren't as wide as the XL, they only put the slits over the width of the pee pad tray below. Hope that helps!
You did not mention the actual sifting of the “urine dust”. It is my understanding that that residue needs to be separated from the pellets. I did not see that on the pad.
Hi! I'm not certain what you mean by urine dust. The mineral sediment in the cat's urine? Coming straight from the cat, pretty much everything drains through to the pad tray below, but I have noticed, after having the systems for several years, that mineral deposits will build up on the green inner litter tray. And the pellets are meant to be changed out and disposed of, rather than cleaned. Does that help?
I'd like to point out that correction regarding the pellets according to the manufacturer's website. Tidy Cats Breeze pellets are made of Zeolite, a family of non-toxic natural minerals.
It's not for everyone, for sure. And some cats with sensitive paws may refuse to use the chunkier litter. So I'm glad it has the 30 day money back guarantee. For me, I like not spending as much money on litter and not needing to carry heavy bags of litter from the store. Which automatic litter box do you like? Most I've looked into have very polarized reviews.
Exactly! Yup, same size pad. The litter tray has the drainage grate on one side and the solid side slopes down to it so they could keep the pee pad tray the same size and use the same pads as the original system.
Hello! Thanks for the video! Very helpful. But I want to show what kind of pellets do you use? What brand? I've never used pellets and I like those. Thank you!!
Hello! The pellets you see in my videos are the Tidy Cats Brand Breeze litter box pellets made especially for this system. A couple bags of it come with the system in the box, but they can be purchased separately. They are made of a natural zeolite mineral and do not break down when exposed to liquid. Instead they facilitate dehydration of kitty's solid waste. They also come in various scents now to help with odor control. You should be able to buy packages of them anywhere the Breeze system is sold. Hope that helps!
Thank you for this good review of the product. But how is it with the cat's paw? My chunky 20 pounder boy used crystals before but what we found is that his paws were peeling and becoming raw for digging. That's the reason why we moved him to clay litter just because it is more forgiving to his paw.
Hi! Sorry for the delayed reply. Been using the Breeze systems for about 2 years now and I haven't seen any negative effects on my kitty's paws. The crystal litter can be kind of powdery and I can see how that powder could dry out their toe pads and the sharp edges scrape at them. But the Breeze pellets are a very solid mineral and do not break down and degrade like crystal or clay litter. So no powder or dusty residue. They're shaped like little cylinders and tumbled so all the edges are rounded off. I do not miss cleaning all the litter dust off my furniture. Hope that helps!
I think you just described my perfect setup I've been wanting to change over to the pine pellets and you've just convinced me that this extra large box could be a great way to do that. AND I've just got some of the pretty pellets too, so I'll put a box of those next to the box of pine pellets. Thank you so much. This really helped.👍👍 The only suggestion I have is, I wish you had left a link to this box because then you would make some money off of each person that goes to buy these boxes (or associated products like maybe a good scoop and things like that) and it would make it easier for US to get to these things. Thank you and again, it's JUST a suggestion. I think people who work hard should be rewarded for their work. And putting a TH-cam video together like you just did took work. Well done, too.
I'm glad the video was able to help you some! Unfortunately, unless Tidy Cats were to sponsor this video I would not benefit from providing purchase links, but I have done so in some of the comments where people asked. 😉 While I purchased system from PetSmart in person it is also available on their website here: tinyurl.com/dypaxcwa or from Chewy.com here: tinyurl.com/cb33mm4m My local PetSmart had the 40lb bags of Feline Pine litter on sale for $10 so I got a couple of those to try with the a Breeze since so many have recommended it. There are pros and cons to pine instead of the zeolite Breeze pellets, a couple being more cleaning, tracking and maintenance involved, but less smell, biodegradable and flushable. If you want to save like $40 and don't absolutely need the high walls of the Breeze XL then you could just try pine pellets in one of those large mortar mix tubs from a hardware store, like this: tinyurl.com/exbz3an8 Either way, I hope you find the best solution for you and your kitty. 😸 If you have any questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best to get you answers. Take care!
@@TheArtymuse I think you could work something out with Amazon and that's how you can make money by sponsoring links but anyway that's just what I've heard. Thank you for your kind and thoughtful response.
I have the regular non-hood breeze box but my kitty is a digger and manages to get the pellets everywhere... I'm not a big fan of the hood one because it makes it more annoying to clean. I wonder if the XL would help keep the pellets in the box better? By the way both videos were great, thank you!
Hi! Thank you. The walls on the XL system are significantly higher than the regular system, but the designated entryway is a pretty low step where a "digger" could fling the pellets out. My ginger boy is kind of a digger, but even he doesn't tossed that many pellets out of the box. You could build a diy top entry cover to go over the whole system if you were inclined. That would be very effective keeping all the pellets inside the box if your cat is okay with top entry boxes. The breeze does have a satisfaction guarantee so it couldn't hurt to see if it works better than your current system. Good luck!
My guy’s a digger, too, raquel101. With the normal sized Breeze or even the wonderful NVR-Miss for large cats (tall sides with an opening in the middle on the long side), he was big enough that he stepped partly or mostly out of the box to do his digging. I’d end up with a cup or litter or more ion the floor - or dozens of Breeze pellets, too - as he’d scoop ant litter out of the box towards where he was standing. The problem went away with the XL size. With the box being roomy enough for him to fully enter and fully stand inside as he scooped, all the litter now stays in the pan. It’s bigger, yes. But beautiful, and well worth the investment. PS. If you don’t switch, though, I found turning entrances inward, towards the wall, discouraged his wayward scooping!
Hi, happy New Year! How does this XL system compare to regular size TC Breeze box? I can't find reliable size information anywhere. What is the width/length of XL green tray? also, when you take off the walls part, is the depth/height of green perforated tray the same in xl as in regular box? I am asking because my cat doesn't like walls, so I would have to use just the green tray+base.
Happy New Year! 🥂 I tried to show a side by side comparison in my first video, but it was pretty brief. I can take a measuring tape to it when I go home today and get you exact numbers. I think the green tray depth is about the same as the regular size. It's just wider. 😸
Sorry for the wait. The box dimensions are 26"wide, 18"depth, 14"tall (floor to top of side wall). Also, the "entrance" area in the wall is about 8" wide. Hope that helps!
Thank you! Another user (totalbee123) had the same question so i happen to have those measurements. 😁 The box dimensions are 26"wide, 18"depth, 14"tall (floor to top of side wall). Also, the "entrance" area in the wall is about 8" wide. Hope that helps!
Love your videos and have changed to wood pellets. Love your suggestions but l have not been able to find the XL anywhere including the company sight. Any ideas? Thank you.
I'm glad they helped! I just found the XL on Chewy.com for $55.24. My local PetSmart always has it in stock. If you don't find it in your local pet store see if they can order it for you. Hope this helps!
The white wall that goes on top? Yes, it's a separate piece that sits over the edge of the pieces below. Technically, there are four individual pieces to the unit. The gray base and its removable tray, the green grated litter tray, and the white wall piece.
Hmm, I think the XL system would be big enough for a Maine Coon. It does have a 30 day money back guarantee as well, so if doesn't work well for you you can return it. I've also found that mortar/cement mixer tubs from the hardware store make excellent litter boxes; they're big and much more inexpensive than an equivalent sized "litter" box. Hope this helps!
Would this litter box be worth it for me? I have 8 cats and only have space for 2 of those. So i wonder how much it would be for the pads, and how often i'd have to change them. I found a 100ct for 80 dollars on amazon
Hi! I currently have 5 cats and they share 3 litter boxes (2 of the XL systems and 1 of the regular size Breeze systems). I have definitely noticed I spend a lot less money on litter maintenance and supplies. And I don't break my back lugging around huge bags of cat litter anymore or cleaning up granules from the floor constantly. The pee pads are probably the biggest expense with these systems, but many people have commented about using alternatives. One of my favorites has been putting down a litter box liner bag in the bottom tray under the green pan and filling that liner with some cheap pine pellet litter. The pellets absorb the urine and do a decent job of odor control. Then I just cinch up the bag and toss it out when the pellets start getting over saturated and no longer control the smell. Some people even use the pine pellet litter in the top tray as well instead of the Breeze zeolite pellets, but I don't like to do that since they tend to break down and the sawdust clogs up the grate in the pan. I think I saw a good DIY litter box video that may work well for you. I'll look for it and reply with the link later. I wish you the best of luck with whichever method you end up going with. 👍
Hi! The shape and size of the Breeze pellets is comparable to all of the pine pellet litters I've seen, but the Breeze pellets are much harder being made out of compressed mineral (mordenite zeolite). I can pretty easily crush a Breeze pellet under the heel of my shoe, but they are not made to absorb and crumble like pine pellets. They merely facilitate the drying out of solid waste and let the liquid pass through the tray to the pee pad below. Breeze pellets have a smoother surface and are heavier than pine so they stick less to fur and track less outside of the litter box. There are pros and cons to both, so preference really relies on your priorities. I find the Breeze pellets to be easier to clean up and maintain, but pine has superior odor control and is really cheap and conveniently flushable. You could also use the Breeze pellets in the upper tray and pine pellets below instead of a pee pad since they are so absorbent and more environmentally friendly than the plastic backed pee pads. Hope that helps! Good luck 🐈
The XL system comes with two bags of pellets in the box, which is just enough to cover the the floor of the inner green pan. My cats like to dig so I added at least another half a bag for 2.5 bags of pellets total. I show the initial setup with just the two bags in it in my first impression video, if you want to see how that looks.
I assume you mean "wouldn't use" them. I agree. After doing more research I found lysol and most other cleaners contain active ingredients that are very dangerous to cats if ingested or could cause skin irritation, like phenol. I worried one of my cats would step in a spot of wet cleaner and lick their paws. So I switched to a natural cleanser/odor remover. My favorite is this one... Skout's Honor Professional Strength Cat Urine & Odor Destroyer: app.chewy.com/rUmBOl5MLmb And it works so much better than lysol or clorox on the litter boxes.
thinking in switching from the regular litter box to this one. did your cat had any issues with it ? i see that you keep the old litter box, do yo have to ?
Hi! If your cat isn't used to chunky pellet litter you'll probably want to slowly get them used to it. I started by mixing pine litter pellets in with their clumping litter. Whenever I scooped I added more pellets until it was almost entirely pellets. Meanwhile I set up the Breeze system next to their old box. Once they were used to the pellet litter I stopped cleaning the old box and they naturally switched to using the clean Breeze box with it's ceramic pellets. I kept their old box nearby for a couple months just to make sure they didn't have any accidents since some cats have really sensitive paw pads and don't like chunky/pellet litter at all. I was lucky mine were all fine with it. Luckily the Breeze has a money back guarantee so if you find that it's just not working for you you can return it. Hope this helps. Good luck!
Does anybody know where you can get the XL Breeze litter box by itself without the whole kit? I'd like to get a couple of them I don't want to pay for the whole kit each time I don't need the other stuff. Thank you in advance
I've only ever seen the kit sold as a whole. It's produced by Tidy Cat, so maybe check their website or try contacting them by email? Otherwise, maybe check resell apps like FB marketplace, OfferUp, or 5Mile to see if anyone is selling their used one. Good luck!
Thanks for the video. I use the Breeze Litter system and I like it so much! However, some pellets get stuck on the bottom part of the box. Do you deep clean it? Will it be okay for me to spray cleaning solution? Thanks!
Good to hear! I usually wipe down the inside of the litter pan and the walls piece at least weekly or as needed with Clorox wipes. I just shift all the pellets to one side, clean that side, then shift them to and clean the other side so I don't have to dump them. Some cleaning solutions are toxic to cats so I recommend googling, "is (product) toxic to cats" before using. However, you could also just wipe or rinse anything you clean with chemicals with water really well afterwards to be safe. I do take the whole system apart every other month or so and rinse it all down in the shower or outside with a hose. That's when I'll also replace all the pellets. Hope this helps!
Yes, all the components come apart for easy deep cleaning. I'll try and film doing so next weekend and upload the video. There's the base, pad tray, inner litter tray, and the "wall."
Thanks so much for the part2. I’m using a traditional litter box. My 7 month kitten’s fur gets wet sometimes after he pees. And he likes to pee towards the side of the litter box. The video shows that the holes are only in the middle of the box so does it mean the pee can’t get thru to the pads if he pees on the sides ?
Hi! Thanks for your comment. Although the holes are located in the middle, the green pan is shaped so that any area without holes is sloped towards the holes to let liquid waste be directed and drained out onto the pee pad tray below. So even if your kitty pees right up against the white wall barrier it should slide down into the green tray, under the pellets, and through the grated area to the pad below. To lessen the small chance that he'll get wet paws from standing in an area bare of pellets while he goes pee, I would add an extra bag of pellets to the box for better coverage. I've found the Breeze system to be a good solution to messy paws from digging through a used litter box. No more litter clumps stuck under their claws or between their toes. Here's a little diagram of how the box works if it'll help. img.chewy.com/is/image/catalog/205982_PT8._AC_SL1500_V1571666877_.jpg
@@TheArtymuse thanks so much. It’s really useful. My cat’s butt fur gets wet sometimes when he pees, do u think this box will help? I think my cat sits onto the litter and when it’s a long one, his butt gets wet.
@@Alalagarden sounds like he may be squatting really low or getting some splash back. Are you currently using a clumping litter? You could just try slowing switching him to a pellet litter like pine or paper, which is more absorbent. I think slightly overfilling a Breeze system would work as well. Since it has a 30 day money back guarantee, I'd suggest giving it a try to see if your cat will adapt to it and if it will solve the wet fur issue. Either way, best of luck to you!
@@TheArtymuse I'm also considering this litter box system because my shorthair cat gets wet bum after using the litter box. I'm not entirely sure but I think it's because he squats too low, and I can't keep chasing him around the house trying to wipe his bum every time after he uses the litter box. This Breeze system is not available in my country, but I found another Japanese brand that looks identical that I intend on buying, but the pellets for that brand seems to always be out of stock so I'm hesitant to try this system with pine pellets as a backup option. Ah decisions decisions....
@xth6738 Hi! Are you currently using a clumping litter? That could be the issue, since the urine tends to pool before being absorbed and can soak the fur of your kitty is squatting really low. Maybe just try offering a box with any pellet litter (pine, paper, etc.) to see if the change in texture and absorbency will fix the issue. You could also look for a chunky crystal litter. I've heard that kind is popular for long-haired cats. Good luck!
I planned to. Then I moved and a pandemic threw things into chaos for me. But I still want to! I've had my kitties using the Breeze systems for over two years now and I've gotten so many good tips and tricks from commenters. I really want to share what I've learned.
Thank you for the videos...they were very helpful! I have four cats and use crystal litter, but am looking for an alternative because of tracking. This looks like a good option. I was wondering about cleaning the box itself so, I’m happy you addressed that and how you clean it. How often do you add litter? Thanks again! I appreciate your videos!
I think so. The smell does begin to build up once the pee pad has absorbed as much as it can, but as long as you replace it regularly, it works really well. Plus, it keeps your cat from having to dig through clumped chunks of pee like in a regular litter box so they don't track the smell around the house. I've modified my box over the years, so I don't need to spend money on the pads. But it does mean I have to clean it out a little more often. Overall, I think the Breeze system is a better alternative going by cleanliness, cost, maintenance, and odor.
Hi - thank you so much for creating your 2 videos! Question if you can answer: my original Breeze System (no hood) I keep in my bathtub because I have a girl kitty who likes to pee outside the box. My bathtub is a standard size. With this XL model and its entrance now located on the side, do you think it would fit in a bathtub? I really want to buy this but am having second thoughts. Thanks so much!
Hi Beth! The XL system fits parallel in my standard size bathtub with room to spare. You may want to remove the side walls piece though as the "entrance" gets blocked by the wall of the tub. It wouldn't fit in the tub if you tried to turn it 90° so the entrance is accessible--if that makes sense. Something else you could try would be to make a tall, bottomless, wood top entry box to fit over the whole unit. If your kitty will use top entry, I've found that worked really well for my boy kitty who tends to miss while using a regular box. Best of luck to you!
When they get noticeably smelly or dirty looking. If your cat has firm poop the pellets will stay relatively clean looking for a long while. But if they have runny poop it can be quite a mess and you end up throwing away a lot more of the pellets. The pellets are porous and will absorb the cat's pee, but they dry pretty quickly. I use a natural ingredient urine destroyer spray cleaner from Skouts Honor to spritz the pellets and it helps keeps the smell down so they last longer. You could try cleaning and sun-drying the pellets, rotating batches out, but I don't think it's worth the trouble. Hope that helps!
I've read some people substituting the pellets with navy or pinto beans. Have you tried that option and see how the odor control compare to the breeze pellets? Btw great review, I'm adopting ragdoll kitten next month. Consider they're quite large once grow into the adult size, do you think the original breeze box would last for at least a year or two before the upgrade or should I just start with the XL? Thanks
Hi! I'm glad you found it helpful. I haven't heard of anyone using beans, but it sounds expensive and I'm not sure how great they'd absorb odors. I've only used pine pellets other than the Breeze zeolite pellets and found pros and cons for both. Breeze pellets have pretty good odor control and a miniscule amounts of tracking and clean up. Zero dust! About $9 for a 3.5lb bag and I use at least three in the XL system, which will last about 2-3 months before I replace them (so about $27 every 2-3 months on litter). Could be a choking hazard for kittens who like to play in their litter since they don't break down. Not really flushable. Pine pellet litter has great odor control and is very cheap and easy to buy in big bulk bags. You want to be sure it's pine pellet litter specifically for cats because they process the pine oil out of it since it's toxic for cats if ingested. It can be kind of messy since the pellets break down into saw dust and will track onto the floor like crazy after a few users, but it's extremely absorbent and lasts a pretty long time as well. You can even use it in the under-tray instead of pee pads to be more environmentally friendly. Conveniently flushable in small amounts. I like to recommend pine or paper pellets for people with kittens, at least until the grow out of playing with and mouthing their litter since they're organic and break down in case they're ingested. My 13lb short hair kitties are fine with using the smaller Breeze system, but there have been a few rare accidents where poop falls on the rim or over onto the floor, but the hooded version may help with that. Personally, I'd go with the XL up front anyway so you don't have to buy it later if you think the breed your getting will get bigger than 15lbs. Also, in case your kitty is just picky about small boxes like my older one was. Honestly, for a kitten, I'd go with a super cheap high-sided traditional box under $10 with pine or paper pellet litter to start. Then, as they grow and you see what their bathroom habits are, you'll know best what will work for them. Hope that wasn't too long! Best of luck to you and feel free to ask me any other kitty questions. 😺
@@TheArtymuse Oh wow! Thank you so so much for the wonderful tips! I came across the beans suggestion while reading the reviews on the breeze system haha! Also a few people mentioned they caught their kitties eating the breeze pallets which is concerning to me as I don't want the kitten to choke on them and/or develop bowel blockage from accidentally or unknowingly ingested them while I'm not at home. I thought either beans or the pine pellets would be a good substitute (plus cheaper). I just reached out to the breeder today and she confirmed that the kitten is being trained on using pine pellets so I guess I'll start off with using that before transitioning him into using something else but it definitely sounds like one of the most cost effective and healthier options. Really like your suggestion on using a cheaper litter box (I'll try to get one with the sifting feature) and monitor his bathroom habits before getting the breeze system in XL depends on how quickly he'll grow into the size where he needs a larger box. Again, thank you so much for the feedback 😺
Idk if you still check these comments, but I purchased one after I saw your great videos and I had a question. Have you (or anyone else on here) has an issue with urine smell? Our is in our small laundry room and the urine smell is overwhelming. The pad is brand new as I just changed it out last night. I noticed that some of the pellets seem to be a little darker in color as if they are soaking up the urine. Has anyone else had this issue? I love the concept and don't want to go back to regular litter. Thanks in advance
Hi Courtney! I try to check back occasionally for comments since many people have questions. I own 3 Breeze boxes and my kitties like to pee in one more than the others so it always smells stronger. I've got a few tips that might work out for you. 1) the Breeze XL has a lot of empty space in the bottom by the tray, so I'll stick one or two odor absorbers in there, like these: Citrus Magic Pet Odor Absorbing Solid Air Freshener, Pack of 3, 8-Ounces Each www.amazon.com/dp/B00DZKHCQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_HKDMQ13H4R9MXMF6XMNJ 2) the pellets will gradually get darker over time as kitty keeps peeing on them and the bag recommends replacing them every month, but I try to make them last as long as possible. So I use a natural litter box deodorizing spray (I like the one made by Skout's Honor) to mist the pellets and around the box. 3) I've had a lot of comments recommending the use of cat-safe pine pellets instead of the zeolite Breeze pellets. Some people even put the pine pellets down in the tray instead of the pee pad. I've been trying it for a few months now in one of my boxes and it definitely helps with the smell, but it does increase maintenance and litter tracking (which were big reasons I switched to the Breeze in the first place). 4) if you want to try cleaning and reusing the zeolite Breeze pellets, definitely use a cat urine enzyme destroying cleanser and let them dry thoroughly before putting back in the box. I definitely recommend giving 1 and 2 above a shot first. While the pine pellets are very good at odor control, they start to get messy once a lot of them break down into sawdust. But if the box is easy to sweep up around then it may be a sacrifice worth making. ***One last note: a cats urine is a good indicator of their health. Yes, cat pee is supposed to be smelly, but it is also a good idea to have your vet check it occasionally for possible UTIs and other conditions that could make it smellier. Best of luck on finding a solution that works for you! 😸
@@TheArtymuse Thank you so much for getting back to me! Yeah I've had it about 2 weeks and changed out the pellets last night to see if that was the cause of the smell. I also have 3 cats. 2 are older and one has had some health issues so it could be her urine that is so potent. She sees a vet every 3 months so I'll ask her when I take her back in. The other one is almost 20 and maybe not drinking enough water. I stopped at the store and got a couple deodorizer to get started and will try the one you recommended. We already had an air freshener in there, but as we know only masks the smell. Thanks again for your great videos and for the suggestions. Hope you and the kitties are well.
Tractor supply sells horse bedding pine pellets and it works AMAZING with this system. WAYYY cheaper. Also Costco sells puppy pads for way cheaper than what comes with this.
Much like Toby, my large cat Bodhi will pee on the side. I see that there’s a space between the wall and the pan. Does that collect urine, does it leak out, is it easy to clean? Thank you for making these videos. Very helpful!
The white side walls piece sits on top of the green pan and extends slightly over on the inside so when he does his business up against the side it still trickles down into the green pan like it should. So far I haven't had any leaks.
Just wanted to follow up and let you know it's still leak-free even after my 20lb-er, Rocket (Toby's big brother) peed up against the side wall standing up...literally just walked in and started peeing, no squats. It shot straight up against the side wall and flowed down into the pan thanks to the little interior drip edge. 👍 Yay for intuitive design! 😁
@@kathrynn3936 I've had that happen once so far with my biggest cat. 🤣 Luckily an absorbent mat placed in front of the entrance helps as a contingency.
Hi! It'll probably depend on the number of cats using the box and their sizes, but I usually change the pads every 7-10 days. It's easy to pull the tray out a couple inches to check how much the pad has absorbed. So if it still has some dry areas I'll leave it in a couple more days to get the most out of it.
You can change it, when it’s full! There’s absolutely no odor. I’ve even heard of them overflowing if left too long... The smaller pan made it easy it slide a full pad into a small bag w/o touching. It could get very full. Two weeks, even, for one cat. But I found with the XL I couldn’t leave them go as long, as the XL tray is XL, too, and unwieldy. Not so easy to just tip, as before, but needing to grab the two opposite edges, instead...
I been dying to upgrade I have two large 15lb cats was looking at the new system am really liking that they're longer most of anything my Simon (Siamese Maine Coon Mix) he looks a little cramped up in the current Breeze... Just letting you know my two cats pee in one poop in the other it's been like that with any set of litter boxes that they have had before the Breeze... They're fashionistas! :p Thanks for the review! ;)
It's been a blessing for my 20lb ginger boy. When he didn't fit all the way in standard boxes he'd mess over the side onto the floor, but that hasn't happened a single time with the XL system. I've noticed that mine also tend to use one box for #1 and another for #2. So I change the pad in one way more often than the other. I will say, if you plan to buy multiple systems then buy them separately since you can open each and get the coupon book out to use on the next one. Best of luck!
Hi! Another user (totalbee123) had the same question so happen to have those measurements. 😁 The box dimensions are 26"wide, 18"depth, 14"tall (floor to top of side wall). Also, the "entrance" area in the wall is about 8" wide. Hope that helps!
I am going to get a kitten/cat soon (first time getting one after moving out of my parents' house). I am trying to determine what litterbox system I should get weighing pros and cons of cost, cleanliness, and amount of time I would have to spend cleaning it. I am leaning towards this system, but I am afraid of the pellets costing an arm and a leg. If it gets too costly, can regular cheaper clay or crystal litter be used? Or will that type of litter fall through the grates?
Congrats on the move! I hope it goes smoothly. You do get a bag of pellets with the purchase of the Breeze system (small) and two bags with the XL, but I have had people tell me that kittens may play with and sometimes swallow the pellets. So if you do try the Breeze system I'd recommend using the pine or paper pellets litter in it instead. I usually recommend those for kittens anyway since they're organic and safer in case they do get ingested by the kitten while grooming or playing. Pine and paper pellet litter will also be cheaper then the replacement Breeze pellets, though you will need to change them out and clean the litter box more frequently since they're absorbent and will break down after a while. Once your kitten grows up some and you can see they have no issues with the pine/paper pellets, I'd switch to the Breeze pellets for easier maintenance. Some of the chunkier crystal litter might work, but most will fall right through the grate in the litter pan since the slits are just narrow enough to hold the pellets back. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have more questions. 😸
Most Crystal litters don't clump the urine for scooping. They're supposed to neutralize the ammonia and hasten evaporation. You just scoop the poop and "mix" the litter to disperse any wet spots until you eventually dump it all and start again. I do prefer the chunky crystal litter over the fine kind because it is less dusty and doesn't stick to paws as much. Between Crystal litter and the Breeze, I prefer the Breeze because I don't need to replace the pellets as often as I had to replace all the Crystal litter. Plus, much less tracking and kitty doesn't have to step on or dig in any wet spots since the Breeze pan drains onto the pad tray below.
Thanks for the review...How about dust? Can you tell me what kind of doggy bag that is? Was thinking about getting this litter box. Oh, and does the doggy bag keep out the smell?
Welcome! Since the pellets do not break down there is literally zero dust; a big reason I switched. You can probably use any kind of doggy poop bags, but I like getting the modern kanine box of 160 bags from my local pet supply store. It's only about $7. It keeps pretty much all the smell in for a couple days. Eventually the waste starts to break down and off-gas and that's when I tie it closed and toss it. I've tried litter genie in the past, but it was too costly for me. Hope this helps!
TheArtymuse ...I use the Litter Genie ...I always use the large Hefty trash bags...the Lavender Scent. That really works also, But is costly for the good bags....I like zero dust and tracking ...may have to give it a try. Thanks😊
@@lindalafleur8194 I hope you like it! There's very little tracking. They'll occasionally flick a couple pellets out through the day, but they are so much easier to see and pick up compared to other, finer litters. Good luck!
How funny! Cats are so unique. I still hope to do another long term review video and include a bunch of the tricks I've learned for myself as well as tips others have given in the comments. Probably my favorite trick has been putting one of those big solid odor absorbers in the base of the Breeze next to where the tray sits. Helps with any lingering ammonia odors after the pads been in there a while. I also like the new odor control pellets rather than the standard ones I first used.
I have the Modkat XL litter box, and am thinking about this one, I don't know if I should switch though, any thoughts? Does the poop smell bad from the type of litter used?
I hadn't heard about Modkat before so I checked out the XL on their website. I do like top-entry boxes and I was even thinking of building an outer "shell" for my Breeze XL to make it top-entry. Depending on the type of litter your cat is used to currently (clumping, crystal, or pellet) will determine how quickly and easily they adapt to the Breeze. Since I have a roommate with dogs I have to keep the litter boxes in my room and I do notice the initial smell when they go poop. If I'm home I usually just go scoop it, but if I'm lazy and leave it be for a while the smell usually dissipates after a few minutes of drying out; that'll also depend on your cat's diet and the firmness of their poop. It's usually the contact of pee with poop that causes the worst smell since the moisture builds up. The Breeze separates them; pee falling through to the odor neutralizing pad and the poop getting dried out by the zeolite pellets (they are firm and don't break down like wood or paper pellets). I also noticed my pet store carries the better odor control Breeze pellets now and I really like them. I think it's at least worth giving it a shot since it has a 30-day money back guarantee. Hope this helps!
@@TheArtymuse thank you so much for the detailed reply! I appreciate it very much, I am going to try this and hopefully my fur baby will use the pellets...I love the modkat but can't use pellets with it though, I recently found out how harmful clay and corn litter is and so I want to change litters from Jackson galaxy's corn litter to this, I think it is safer? Hopefully lol 🤞
@@aimreadings I hope it works out for you! My cats were not used to chunky pellet litter at all at first, but I started mixing in recycled paper pellets into their old clumping litter every time I scooped it, until it was almost entirely pellets. I did that over about a month's time and had the Breeze set up next to their old box so they could get used to it with no pressure. From the demo video you can see Toby had no issue using it from the start, but my other cat, Rocket, took a couple weeks to adapt well. I will note, if you have very young kittens it is better to use natural paper or pine pellet litter in case they ingest any since scented and clumping litters can cause them serious medical issues. One other thing I really really like about the Breeze system is that it is really 100% dust free. I was so sick of clay and crystal litter dust everywhere around the boxes. Even if the Breeze doesn't work out for you, maybe give recycled paper or pine pellet litter a try in another top entry box. Best of luck to you!
@@TheArtymuse oh thank you! Seems maybe my cat is like your baby rocket lol you are so helpful I appreciate you! 🙏 Thank you and I will definitely use pine instead just in case but isn't pine toxic to cats and dogs? Or is that false?
@@aimreadings Smart question! I looked it up and found this, "Some say pine pellet litter is dangerous for cats due to the pine oils contained in the wood which may cause respiratory and liver problems. However, the pine oils are destroyed in the manufacturing process, leaving the pellets safe. It also may be better for cats with allergies, as the pellets aren’t dusty like clay." ..here: happycatcorner.com/pine-pellet-cat-litter-pros-and-cons/
Do you still have the small box with the crystals? I am moving into a camper, i wont have room for more then one option for my 2 cats one of which is very picky. Also on your first video I loved the live use example 🤣
I eventually fazed out the black mortar tub of crystal litter, so I'm only using the Breeze systems currently. Just got tired of gritty floors. Moving into a smaller area, you'll probably want to focus on odor control. I find that the systems that separate the liquid from solid waste tend to be best at that. I also find pellet litters to be easier to clean up after and I'm less likely to miss a spot when cleaning floors since they're much bigger than little litter granules. You could also make an active air/odor control filter shell to go over your litter box; no matter the kind you decide to go with. You could make it of card board, but some thin hobby wood will stand up better if kitties decide to lounge on it. Maybe make a little bench out of it with a cushion on top? Anyway, you can attach a cheap CPU fan or flat desk fan to an opening on the side and have it pull the air from the litter box through one of those carbon air filter pads. If you go with the Breeze XL system there is enough space in the base under the litter tray to lay down one or two of those odor absorbing solids, like Citrus Magic brand; cheap and effective. Glad you liked Toby's live demo! 😂 Hope you found this info helpful! Good luck on the move.
I got mine from PetSmart. I went yesterday and saw they had a few in stock in store. Should also be on their website. That's the only place I've found it so far.
@@anthonygraff6231 Glad you were able find one! When I bought mine it was actually the last one in stock. It's such a big item I don't think they'll ever stock more than a few at a time. Hope it works out for you as well as mine did!
I am absolutely thrilled to say it has fixed all of our litter box problems. Are older cat is using it with ease. No accidents outside the box it's much easier for her absolutely love it A+ to tidy cat . And to you for helping me with this. Thanks 😊
@@anthonygraff6231 I'm so so glad it works for your kitties! As an owner of a big, chubby, older cat I had the same issues with him going outside the box. I can sympathize with your relief! 😸 As for the pad refills, the cheapest I've found them were at Pet Supermarket, but you can get them even cheaper off brand. Best of luck!
Do you mean when I was using the pine/paper pellets to help them adapt to chunky litter in prep for the pellets in the Breeze system? I slowly mixed them into their old litter. Everytime I'd scoop the clumps out I would replace the amount I scooped out with pine pellets. Slowly the pellet to clay ratio grew until it was pretty much all pellet. Then I put the Breeze next to their old litter box and stopped cleaning it so they'd naturally migrate to using the cleaner box. Hope that helps!
@@lathafalls7675 you mean the green scoop for the pellets? It comes with the system in the box. A few people have mentioned they found other scoops that will work as well. They just need to have big enough spaces for the pellets to sift through.
Technically, yes. I have done so before. They do take a long time to dry though so it might be good to have two full "batches" you can swap out when one needs washing. A few others have commented about doing the same thing. I will say that I've noticed they lose some odor control effectiveness if you keep re-using them. The package says they're made from a kind of zeolite mineral. Hope that helps!
I’ve read elsewhere and tried SCOE 10X. Works like a charm! I can see my ceramic pellets - and I use more; he digs! - lasting, easily, the stated six months.
@@TheArtymuse Thank you. I just saw your reply. Ive been using feline pine pellets instead and it works great! I(advice from Victoria Gardens Cattery) just use put a litter box (the smaller size) and an extra large puppy pad underneath to catch the pine pellets that became powder. I just wish I could use this extra large if only I can find a litter box with the same size to put under neath.
@@badoodles08 Good to hear it's been working out for you! I'd recommend checking to see if your local hardware store sells large cement/mortar mixing tubs. Bigger, cheaper, and more durable than most standard litter boxes. My local home depot sells two sizes and the large would definitely fit the XL system. It's about $17, if I remember correctly.
I would really like this system for my pine litter but my cats absolutely need a hood and this system doesn't come with one and I don't have the space for a litterbox cabinet. So I guess we're stuck with the SoPhresh jumbo sifting litter box.
Isnt it so strange how some cats just NEED to be under cover for them to go? Some will go right there with anyone watching, and others are like nope I'm gonna hide while I do this XD

@@TheArtymuse thank you might be odd but the more room the better I bought arm and hammer and the sifting part sits right on top no room for saw dust to fall and gather
I know this is a bit of an older video, but I just adopted a cat and got this litter box and the pee/ammonia smell is pretty intense in less than 24 hours. The pad is pretty soaked each morning so I have to change the pad every morning :/ Am I missing something obvious or has anyone experienced this before?
Hello! That is odd, especially strong odors and full saturation after only 24 hours. One pad usually lasts my 4yo female cat about 10 days. Has your new cat seen a vet recently? Some illnesses and/or medications can affect the amount they pee and how it smells. But if kitty has a clean bill of health, maybe they just naturally pee a lot, and the pad can't keep up. I have 2 XL systems and one of them I removed the whole gray base part and put the top parts over a mortar mix tub I got at Home Depot (See link below) instead. Then i put an inch of recycled paper or pine pellet litter in there to absorb the pee. Since those are cheaper, more absorbant, and I can sprinkle on baking soda for additional odor control. That might work better for you since that box gets used by my 4 other male cats, and it does a great job at minimizing the pee smell. www.homedepot.com/p/Plasgad-20-9-Gal-Black-Large-PVC-Concrete-Mixing-Tub-887102C/205451585
@@TheArtymuse ahhh great idea. He is a pretty massive cat, and still getting used to the home, so maybe that's contributing to it. I'll try that idea of putting a different pan + litter below. Thank you!
I just bought one of these and it smells horrible! ? I have one cat, cleaning once or twice a day, the pee pads do not last one week! Three days, maybe. any advice?
Hmm, that is odd. There is always some smell when kitty initially goes potty until the solid waste starts to dry. I have three units for four cats and I'm able to change out the pads every 7-10 days. However, not all cats are the same and yours may drink more and pee more than others. I've read some other comments where people used pine pellets in the tray and litter box itself for more absorbance. A nice thing about the XL system is the extra space in the base beside the pad tray. I will usually buy those big flat solid odor absorbers for garbage cans and stick one or two down in the base. I think that helps curb the urine odor. Tidy Cats has also recently released a new type of pellet for the Breeze with increased odor control. And even though you only have one cat using the box, maybe try the pads made for multiple cat homes; they also have increased odor control and absorbency. One last tip, I keep a spray bottle of one of those natural litter box deodorizers nearby the main box my kitties all use and spray it over the box if someone has a really stinky #2 I can't scoop right away. I hope this helps. Also, check out some of the other comments for suggestions. Remember, the Breeze has a 30 day money back guarantee if it just doesn't work out for you. Prior to switching to the Breeze I was having success with chunky crystal litter in a medium mortar mix tub from the hardware store rather than an expensive large litter box. Best of luck to you and kitty!
These Breeze boxes unnecessarily bulky and complicated. If you want an ATTRACTIVE extra large sifting litter box for pine litter, just buy 2 extra large SoPhresh pans at Petco, available in beige. They are approximately 22" x 17" x 5". Drill 1/4 inch holes at the bottom of one of them about 5/8" apart. You don't need a 3rd pan, nor do you need puppy pads - these are a waste of money. In order to reinforce the 5/8 inch gap between both pans, I use 4 canning jar lids between the sifter and the bottom box. After 3 days, I gently lay the sifter box (with litter inside) down on my litter matt (leaves no mess!) and take the bottom box to my big round kitchen trash can where I use a paper towel to push the sawdust into the trash. Takes 30 seconds of my time.
do the pellets have any odor, or is there any poop smelling or amonia odor at all? if so how would you compare it to other litters like clay, sand, crystals etc? i'm thinking of getting a cat but i'm lost on what to get since i've never had a cat before
Hello! The Breeze pellets start out scentless (unless you buy one of the scented types). They will gradually start to smell after a while as they exceed their capacity to absorb and neutralize odors. The instructions recommend replacing them monthly, but I've been able to push it to 3-4 months by doing regular clorox wipe downs of the boxes and having multiple boxes available for my multiple cats. You can also try pine pellets litter (great odor control and cheap), but more clean up involved as it breaks down into saw dust and will track around the house. I used to be terrified of cats until I got the urge to adopt a rescue many years ago. I work long days and didn't think I had enough free time for a dog to take them out for walks and such. Turns out I'm very much a cat person. I have to say, I think having just one cat is more work than two. Especially if you're new to cats and don't quite get how to handle and play with them, having two let's them interact and play with each other until you get the hang of it. They also tend to be less bored or destructive when they have a playmate always available. I recommend checking your local cat rescues for a bonded pair of kitties who already get along well. They'll be more confident, quicker in a new home since they'll be with a known friend. Some rescue groups will even put you in contact with a foster to visit so you can get to know the kitties before adopting and their foster can tell you all about their personalities and favorite toys, activities, food, dislikes, etc. Jackson Galaxy and the Kitten Lady both have very helpful videos here on TH-cam that I recommend watching for any (potential) cat owner. Feel free to ask me any cat related questions you may have and I'll do my best to help. Best of luck to you! (Also, is your profile photo from Silver Spoon [gin no saji]? I love that anime! )
@@TheArtymuse Thank you so much for all the generous tips and helpful advice! It really means a lot to me. I'll definitely consider adopting a pair of kittens then. Also haha, my profile is actually from Parasyte a different anime, but I looked up silver spoon and it looks interesting so I think I'll watch it some time (I love anime!)
@@skreezyiYou're very welcome! Oh yes, Parasyte was very good as well! Kittens, huh? Ambitious of you. 😸 Kittens can be rather bitey as they explore the world, especially if they haven't dropped their milk teeth yet. I suggest also looking at some older adolescent kitties. They'll still be very cute and playful, but they'll have mostly outgrown the bitey and dangerously curious phase. Also, the Breeze pellets could pose a choking hazard to young kittens who like to play in litter and mouth at things, since the pellets don't dissolve or break down. If you do get kittens, start with pine or recycled paper pellet litter to be safe. Then when they get a bit older and don't play with litter anymore you can switch to the Breeze pellets. They'll already be used to pellet litter so it should be an easy transition. 👍
@@TheArtymuse Lolol yeah they're really cute, so it's hard not to want them. I'll keep the pellet choking hazard in mind definitely though if I do get kittens, I didn't even think about that so thank you!
these were some reviews, and i was wondering if you could address them: 1. The problem with this version is that the part that holds the litter just sits on top of the main base. It doesn't clip on or anything. What it means is if it's not perfectly aligned the pee can leak around the pad and fill the base, instead of the removable tray. It means I have to take the whole thing apart every few weeks and clean it out. Not easy to do given the size. The whole thing ends up being a mess.
Hmm, I haven't experienced that issue with any of my systems; I have the one original size and two XLs. The green inner pan has a "lip" around the edge that rests on the top of the base piece. This keeps the grated drainage area pretty well aligned over the pee pad tray. The top wall piece goes over the edges of the green inner pan and base keeping everything in alignment. The top wall of the smaller original size even has snaps on the sides that clip it down. The top of the XL just has a really deep "lip" around the bottom that caps over the sides and prevent any seepage if kitty likes to pee against the wall. If you're getting leaks into the base your system might have a defect. However you could try remedying it by getting those plastic litter pan liner bags and putting one down in/over the base before setting the green inner pan over it. Then to save on buying the pee pads, you could just fill the litter pan liner with some cheap pine pellet litter to absorb the urine and kill the odor; I've found it to be really effective at that. Then whenever you're ready to clean it just cinch up the litter liner bag, toss it out with the trash and put down a new one filled with some more cheap litter. Hope this helps! Good luck!
Some people use the recycled paper or pine pellets in the tray, but if the litter is too fine it will all just fall through the grate at the bottom. You can use whatever litter in the tray in place of the pads if you want, to absorb the pee, and just dump it out when it's all soaked. Those are pretty good ways to cut more cost instead of buying the zeolite Breeze pellets and Breeze pads. I've used Pretty Litter Crystal litter in the tray instead of the pads before. Pretty Litter is neat since it changes color and helps detect health problems. Hope that helps!
Thank You for the review I was trying to find out more info on this size myself. I have 3 cats and a small space to keep their boxes so I’m wondering if I would need more than one. Maybe a large and a small would work. My largest cat is about 15lbs
Three of my cats (10lb, 16lb, and 19lb) have been using it exclusively for the past 2 weeks. I used to have a second regular litter box with crystal litter out for them, but I wanted to see how they'd do with the one. It's going pretty well, just needs cleaning and replacing the pad more often. Though I think I will go back to providing them a secondary box to just prevent any territorial issues. Best of luck to you!
Is this more or less expensive than maintaining a normal clumping clay litter box? I swear my cats hate me and destroy their litter boxes in just a few days, lol
It has definitely been cheaper for me. I go through a lot less a litter since the pellets do a pretty good job drying out the solid waste and not many stick to the waste when I scoop it out so I'm not throwing away much besides the actual poop and pee pads. The pads I change out about every 7-10 days depending on how they look and smell. Some people have even said they switched to using pine pellets to cut costs even further.
I'm going with the system--- going to gradually mix it in with the clay and every day remove MORE clay til it's gone--- my boys are picky!! :) I figure at the rate they use it-- a week should be enough and we'll be CLAY FREE-- THANK GOD-- that mess is running me nuts. (causing breathing issues too..for the cats AND me ) I'm going with PINE HORSE BEDDING from the farm store--- it's KILN DRIED- so the pine resin is all gone- and no danger to the cats or me-- and will turn to SAWDUST so no PUPPY PAD needed.... and it's cheap $5.99 a 40 pound bag- AND compostable... for plants.. I will compost that and eggshells and other leftovers-- and make my roses more beautiful next year.. :)
That sounds like a great idea! Litter dust was also a reason I switched as well. I found that you can use those litter box liner bags to line the lower base to catch all the sawdust if you want to go with a pine pellet, and it makes clean up very easy. Another method I have tried is to use a regular solid litter pan in place of the gray base to collect the liquid waste. Then, I just empty it into the toilet every few days, and there is no need to buy the absorbent pads for the tray. Very cost saving. Best of luck to you and your kitty!
Very curious since this post is four weeks old, if you still have that same judgment?
I like that you actually did a live demonstration, makes it nice to see what your really dealing with it.
Thanks! 😅 That was entirely thanks to Toby there. He has a tendency to "christen" any freshly cleaned litter boxes. I'm glad he did it when he did since, like you said, it is nice to see what to expect.
Both videos were so helpful and you did a great job. I appreciate all the helpful hints.
My kitten now cat has used it for over 14 months. Absolutely no issues at all.
Glad to hear it! It's nice when you can get them used to it when they're young.
Thank you for getting back with me. I really liked video and thank you for the information
Thank you so much for this! One of the few video reviews that mentions about the poop. This helps so much ✨
I'm glad it helped! Let me know if you have any other questions that didn't get answered about the Breeze systems, and I'll do my best to answer.
@@TheArtymuse
Sure appreciate your willingness to answer questions, very good of you...
The pine is amazing in this system. And if they have a sticky diarrhea these pellets stick all over the pellets and the sides of the box
@@TheArtymuse what brand of pine pellets do you use? Can you share the link?
@@ashleydavies3374 Hi! I usually go with Feline Pine because most pet supply store carry it (in the U.S. at least) and it is cheap. www.petco.com/shop/en/petcostore/product/feline-pine-cat-litter
You could probably get away with using the recycled paper pellets (like Yesterday's News) as well, but they absorb liquid even faster than the pine and kind of defeat the purpose of the draining tray feature. Hope that helps!
@@TheArtymuseTractor Supply sells forty pounds for just over $7, way cheaper than Petsmart.
Take care!

So glad! Congratulations on your new furry family member!

Thanks so much for your two part review of this product. I have been searching for a better litter box, and this helped a lot. Great job!
Glad it helped! I just bought another one for myself to help extend how long the pads last. Eventually I want to try some of the suggestions in other comments; pine pellets, sawdust in the tray, etc.

I'm so grateful that you posted the 2 videos that you did! I just watched both. I switched to breeze last year but was looking at XL box because we'll be adding a second kitty soon. You're very welcome! I hope it makes kitty's "bathroom" cleaning easier on you. 😸
Take care!
I change mine every two days. But I changed to pine pellet instead. And it works great
Quite helpful videos.

Good luck!
@@TheArtymuse you’re awesome. Thanks so much!
Very good video. Thank you. I am thinking of getting this XL for 2 cats, and you explained it well. Tks
I just bought one today for my pine pellets and love it. It’s wonderful.
Glad to hear! I've kind of wondered how well it would function with other pellet types since they tend to absorb the liquid waste and break down over time. I'll have to give them a try sometime just to see.
I have the regular sized version and am currently transitioning to pine pellets. So far, so good.
The Breeze System has been the best litter box of all the boxes I've tried. Now that I have a third cat, I'm thinking it's time to upgrade to the XL.
Another great video thank you so much!
Thank you for both review videos on this box!
You're very welcome. I hope they were able to answer any questions you had about the system.
How easily do cats get used to using this litter if they're used to regular litter?
@JustaMunchkin My cats took to it very quickly. I set it up next to their old box that had regular litter, and they were already using it on day 1. Every cat is different, and some have sensitive paws that may dislike the hard pellets. Luckily, the Breeze comes with a 30-day money back guarantee. So if your cat doesn't take to it by day 29, just pack it up and take it back to the store for a refund.
@@TheArtymuse
I'll probably purchase it from our favorite "Chewy," they've been so good to us over many years now...
I like the Multi pad. Have you tried Feline Pine. ?
Thank you again, for your review’s 👍
You are very welcome. 😊
I keep meaning to try this! Thanks!
How does the sawdust work with the shallow tray underneath?
Why are the slits only in the middle, what if the cat goes in a corner and the pee won’t ever go down.
So now you have 2 things to change and clean and still scoop. I think I'll go with an automatic cleaner
Thanks for the videos.
Nice that Tidy Cat listened and made a larger one. Same size pad, right?
❤🎉 thanks for the video
I think you just described my perfect setup I've been wanting to change over to the pine pellets and you've just convinced me that this extra large box could be a great way to do that. AND I've just got some of the pretty pellets too, so I'll put a box of those next to the box of pine pellets. Thank you so much. This really helped.👍👍
The only suggestion I have is, I wish you had left a link to this box because then you would make some money off of each person that goes to buy these boxes (or associated products like maybe a good scoop and things like that) and it would make it easier for US to get to these things.
😉 While I purchased system from PetSmart in person it is also available on their website here: tinyurl.com/dypaxcwa or from Chewy.com here: tinyurl.com/cb33mm4m
My local PetSmart had the 40lb bags of Feline Pine litter on sale for $10 so I got a couple of those to try with the a Breeze since so many have recommended it. There are pros and cons to pine instead of the zeolite Breeze pellets, a couple being more cleaning, tracking and maintenance involved, but less smell, biodegradable and flushable. If you want to save like $40 and don't absolutely need the high walls of the Breeze XL then you could just try pine pellets in one of those large mortar mix tubs from a hardware store, like this: tinyurl.com/exbz3an8
Either way, I hope you find the best solution for you and your kitty.
I tried to show a side by side comparison in my first video, but it was pretty brief.

I just bought one on amazon…..a whooping $76. (XL) Dang! Pine pellets are still cheap
Is it possible to remove the white part?
The white wall that goes on top? Yes, it's a separate piece that sits over the edge of the pieces below. Technically, there are four individual pieces to the unit. The gray base and its removable tray, the green grated litter tray, and the white wall piece.
I'm getting a maine coon and since they are a bigger domesticated cat breed would you recommend the xl for just one cat, debating which size to get.
Thanks for the video. Question: how hard are the pellets? I have a senior gal and she uses the pine pellets is there much difference between the two?
Good luck 🐈
@@TheArtymuse Thank you so much, I never thought about using pine pellets in the bottom tray which would turn to sawdust - great idea!
Do you find one 3.5 bag of pellets is enough? It seemed like one bag isn’t enough. Thanks
I would use Lysol or Clorox wipes I would use a more mild wipe.
Skout's Honor Professional Strength Cat Urine & Odor Destroyer:

And it works so much better than lysol or clorox on the litter boxes.
Do these pellets bother your Kitties paws?
I bought one your video are great
Thank you! I hope it works out well. Let me know if you have any questions about it that I might be able to help answer. Good luck!
Great video!
Thank you! Hope it was helpful.
If your buying the litterbox at the store, just open the box up so you can use the $7 off coupon at the store. You are going to buy it anyway.
Good point! Thx! 😸
thinking in switching from the regular litter box to this one. did your cat had any issues with it ? i see that you keep the old litter box, do yo have to ?
Can you take the litter box apart, like remove all parts to deep clean it?

Good luck!
Did you have another review, after this one?
I planned to. Then I moved and a pandemic threw things into chaos for me. But I still want to! I've had my kitties using the Breeze systems for over two years now and I've gotten so many good tips and tricks from commenters. I really want to share what I've learned.
Thank you for the videos...they were very helpful! I have four cats and use crystal litter, but am looking for an alternative because of tracking. This looks like a good option. I was wondering about cleaning the box itself so, I’m happy you addressed that and how you clean it. How often do you add litter? Thanks again! I appreciate your videos!
does it really help with urine smell?
TheArtymuse - fits perfectly without the side wall piece. Thanks again for your suggestions! Love this bigger model for my fur babies!
@@bethzarzycki8678 So glad it worked out! :-D
When do you change the pellets? Or do you?
1) the Breeze XL has a lot of empty space in the bottom by the tray, so I'll stick one or two odor absorbers in there, like these: Citrus Magic Pet Odor Absorbing Solid Air Freshener, Pack of 3, 8-Ounces Each www.amazon.com/dp/B00DZKHCQ2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_i_HKDMQ13H4R9MXMF6XMNJ
2) the pellets will gradually get darker over time as kitty keeps peeing on them and the bag recommends replacing them every month, but I try to make them last as long as possible.
I'm going to try wood stove pellets with my Breeze box. 40 lbs for $5
Cool. Let us know how that goes. Might be a good compostable alternative.
Wow, good idea, how's the wood pellets working out??
Tractor supply sells horse bedding pine pellets and it works AMAZING with this system. WAYYY cheaper. Also Costco sells puppy pads for way cheaper than what comes with this.
Great info thank you
Much like Toby, my large cat Bodhi will pee on the side.
My cat would probably wee at the walk in area where the wall is lower🤣🤣🤣
@@kathrynn3936 I've had that happen once so far with my biggest cat. 🤣 Luckily an absorbent mat placed in front of the entrance helps as a contingency.
Just wondering how often do you change the pad???
Hi, what are the dimensions of the box?can’t find this information anywhere. Thank you
Hi! Another user (totalbee123) had the same question so happen to have those measurements. 😁
The box dimensions are 26"wide, 18"depth, 14"tall (floor to top of side wall). Also, the "entrance" area in the wall is about 8" wide. Hope that helps!
@@TheArtymuse thank you!
@@TheArtymuse This is extremely helpful! Thank you!
Regarding crystal litter, do you need to scoop urine? and is it better than breeze one?
That really works also,
But is costly for the good bags....I like zero dust and tracking ...may have to give it a try. Thanks😊
@@lindalafleur8194 I hope you like it! There's very little tracking. They'll occasionally flick a couple pellets out through the day, but they are so much easier to see and pick up compared to other, finer litters. Good luck!
My boys are opposite! They 2 in the breeze, and 1 in the litter. How is it working out now? Any tips or trick you learned?
Thank you and I will definitely use pine instead just in case but isn't pine toxic to cats and dogs?

How did u get your cats use to the pine ? Thx

TheArtymuse ok thank u have a good day😸😸
If the pellets are made of ceramic, can you wash and re-use them?
They have one that comes with a hood
Hey. I am from Holland. And. This is online. For sale ....can you tell me where is the online store
Hello! I'm not certain what service will ship to Holland, but here are a few places to check...
www.purina.com/tidy-cats/cat-litter-boxes
Check your country's Amazon distributor.
See if Chewy.com delivers to you:

Or you could ask a few of your local pet supply stores if their vendors could make a special order for you.
I hope this helps! Good luck.
How much room from green screen to bottom pan. 1 inch 2inch etc?
I haven't measured, but I'd say about 2" of space. I'll try to get an exact measurement later and let you know.
@@TheArtymuse thank you might be odd but the more room the better I bought arm and hammer and the sifting part sits right on top no room for saw dust to fall and gather
After pulling out the measuring tape it looks close to a 1" gap because the green inner tray is so sloped.
@@TheArtymuse thank you for taking a measurement
I know this is a bit of an older video, but I just adopted a cat and got this litter box and the pee/ammonia smell is pretty intense in less than 24 hours. The pad is pretty soaked each morning so I have to change the pad every morning :/
Am I missing something obvious or has anyone experienced this before?

@@TheArtymuse ahhh great idea. He is a pretty massive cat, and still getting used to the home, so maybe that's contributing to it. I'll try that idea of putting a different pan + litter below. Thank you!
@@miqueas1992 You are welcome! And thanks for adopting! Best luck to you 😸
I just bought one of these and it smells horrible!
That sounds like a cool setup! I love DIY solutions.
do the pellets have any odor, or is there any poop smelling or amonia odor at all? if so how would you compare it to other litters like clay, sand, crystals etc? i'm thinking of getting a cat but i'm lost on what to get since i've never had a cat before
I'll keep the pellet choking hazard in mind definitely though if I do get kittens, I didn't even think about that so thank you!
these were some reviews, and i was wondering if you could address them:
Good luck!
can I use other typs of litter ie corn
TheArtymuse Thank You I’m going to see how it goes with the XL then if. I have to I’ll get the smaller as a second.
What the the measurements? Ty
I notice that there's only the crates in the middle what happens if they Pee where there's no holes? like they Pee in the very corner
There will just be a clump of the sawdust or “melted” pellet lol. You just use the scooper to push that to the drain point. It doesn’t happen often
