The distinction between Seoinage (Ippon and Morote) as Te-waza and Ogoshi has always eluded me . . . until I saw this video. I never realized before that tori does not lift uke with his hips and legs but rather pulls him over his back with his arms. If this is hard to believe, in my defense it is because every instructor I trained under emphasized treating Seoinage as akin to Ogoshi regarding the lift. Wow, what a eureka moment.
I agree with Riki-sensei 100% regarding dropping on my knees a la Seoi-otoshi. My daughter, currently an Ikkyuin Judo, loved using adrop motote during her university varsity days---until she hurt her knees. Now she knows better.

Thanks Jun, you're not the only one! I have only ever learned under Riki sensei but still ended up lifting with my hips for years before realizing that was incorrect. Morote-seoi-nage variations coming in a few days!

A great video demonstrating the waza! The explanation was great and the demonstrations showed exactly how to execute the throw.

      Yes, they're both seoi-nages.
