The yellow tip is an egg tooth, it helps them break through the egg when hatching. It will fall off so don't be alarmed.
Name them all shades of green. Emerald, Juniper, Forest, Sage, and Olive.

They look like yellow belly red ear hybrids. They don’t have red ears but do have the green carapace of a Redear but they’re plastron is yellow like a yellow belly slider.

The yellow tip on their nose is the egg tooth (i believe thats how its called). Its used for them to crack the egg and hatch. It fades away.

Technically the embryo is the baby turtle itself; the yolk specifically is the part that is absorbed
Generaly this happens if the turtle still has the yolk sack. Otherwise they go straight for the water . If not they wil 95% die
My son and I were fishing at a dam one day and saw some seagulls going nuts, of course we had to investigate. A batch of newly hatched turtles were what they were feasting on. There was one left and of course it had to come home with us. She looked just like yours and the vet (yes there are vets who specialize) said she was a yellow bellied slider. She had the most personality of any aquatic animal I had ever seen and haven't seen since. She was hand fed, liked frequent water "baths" and loved to be with people . Her name is SKOOT :) and she is now part of the hands on exhibit at the local environmental center. After 9 years here, my son joined the marines and I knew I couldn't invest the time needed to care for her properly, so I did the next best thing I could for her. Now she helps to teach students and is still the most beautiful turtle I have ever seen. I hope you enjoy yours.

Congrats! The first hatch is always the best. As for species, they're yellow bellied sliders (Trachemys scripta scripta) mixed with red eared slider (T. s. elegans) meaning they're intergrades between subspecies. Best of luck with 'em!

The first one he placed in water has the postorbital stripe joining the line below the jaw, which is exclusively a YBS trait. If I didn't see that one, I probably would have gone with Cumberland sliders. True Cumberlands are restricted to a small geographic area within Tennessee and Kentucky and while it isn't impossible for them to be found out of range it's far more likely to be the result of interbreeding between the two most common subspecies, which can result in hatchlings virtually identical to T. s. troosti, outside of genetic testing. Sliders in the south can be a confusing mess. Sorry for the long reply!
@@MrBlanman68 Don't apologize for the long reply. It was concise and informative. I was simply comparing a few different pictures each, including the interbreeds, and noticed all of those had at least some red on their "ear". It was one of the things I was looking for.
However, I didn't give thought to _those_ interbreeding with red ears, yellow bellied, _and_ themselves…

I wanted to add there have been Cumberlands found in Alabama but I doubt they've made it to the Mobile area. I also read Cumberlands do not interbreed with any of them.

Similar situation to this guy, I seen a mama common snapper lay eggs right on the side of the road, I ended up with 49 eggs. I've seen so much back and forth info, but I have been keeping them at 72 degree hoping for a mix of sexes. Did you do anything special?

The reason why they have a little yellow tip on their nose is because when birds and reptiles are hatching, they use that to help crack open the shell

yesterday a pretty Painted Turtle came back to my yard and laid eggs, I marked the place, can't wait to see babies.. first time to see a gorgeous colored turtle in my life. Two years ago there's a huge Snapping Turtle laid her eggs on the parking area, got 27 babies. They were so cute and fun to watch while they crawl their way to the nearby natural pond.

No red at all on the head, so it's not a red eared slider. Plus the very vibrant yellow, pretty sure it's a yellow bellied slider.
They'll end up with freakin beautiful shells and most of the yellow on their bodies will remain that vibrant.

I think you’re doing a wonderful job so far, I am a turtle mom myself. I’d recommend putting a cover over their temporary home, to avoid natural predators, especially since you will be away. Also, be careful, I would not recommend plastic plants. Young turtles are known to mistake them for the real thing. Also, stay away in general from tiny rocks. They tend to mistake them for food. Hope this helps!👍

You should definitely put some of that sand in around those rocks!
They'll sun when they're cold but they'll submerge and swim to help regulate their temperature, and hide in the sand to feel safe if there's enough above the waterline! 🐢
Plus, as a bonus teeny little snails will emerge from the sandy bottom and crawl around everywhere and it helps to supplement the turtle's diet while teaching them to hunt!

I'm pretty sure those are red ear sliders. I found one at work,at the airport of all places to find a baby turtle. I raised it. She's a little over 6yrs old now. Take that plastic grass out of there,they'll test bite just about anything and they'll probably eat that grass. Also don't use small fish tank gravel,they'll eat that too. I feed mine Omega One Diet and river shrimp and lettuce, raw chicken, hamburger and blueberries,live goldfish. They will eat earthworms but I don't feed mine earthworms because they can carry parasites and infect the turtle. Mine loves little peices of fruit,banana,apple,strawberries. It is important to give them protein when they're young,but not too much. Too much protein can make the body grow faster than the shell. It can also cause shell to pyramid,Basically cause the shell to be lumpy instead of,normally smooth. They like water temp about 76-82F. It is important that they get access to leafy greens,they'll probably prefer the protein foods. When they're adults 80% of their diet is vegetarian. Might want to just keep lettuce in the tank at all times and then feed them the turtle food. FYI,the green reptile sticks, I can't remember the brand. I remember that they were green sticks for baby turtles,my vet said they're pretty low quality food. Mine is a female,I didn't know exactly what my turtle was to begin with but I found out it was a female when she laid eggs a couple years ago. So I changed Fred's name to Frida. Males will develop really long front claws,you probably won't be able to tell the difference between the sexes for awhile,well until the male's claws start to grow longer. I learned quite a bit about raising mine if you have any questions you can message me back if you like.
