THE fine list of tenors is long, I enjoyed all of them, yet Jerry's artistry is obvious unique and so much simply natural. Love love and Bravo, hope to have someone like this on stage asap...
Look guys I wasn't saying this was the only good performance but the combination of his voice, musicianship, and presence make it the best live performance. It's not just voice.
One of the grandest tenors of all times. Oh that voice sends shivers down one's spine. Thank you so much for posting this fantastic piece. RIP Jerry. Fly with the angels and charm heaven with your heavenly voice.
That is damn good! Strong, full, good coloratura, and awesome breath control, Not sure its ever been sung this well at the Barn before or since. This is a very difficult and awkward aria to perform. It is one of those arias you never hear in a Gala concert, why? Because nobody really likes singing it because it is awkward and really has no effect to it. It is also a relatively low aria for tenor, which forces you to sing a bit different than if you are singing music pitched higher. One thing is for certain, you can‘t suck as a singer and sing this aria well.
Yes its often prescribed for students to learn because it teaches really firm breath control. One of those songs that is easy to sing (range and dynamics not too demanding) but very very hard to sing well.
I believe he had been seeing a Therapist. But some Soul-Sorrows are beyond the range of chemical fixes. I wish he had been able to find his way out of the Forest. But I'm sure he found his Peace. God bless Jerry!
Truly wonderful tenor,he does a cracking good job of singing this, but i would suggest that john mc cormacks version of this aria is even better, and probably the greatest of all, certainly the gold standard
@@kenoliver8913 Luigi Alva also sings this really well on a par with mc cormack,I might be a little biased towards mc cormack as I am on the committee of the mc cormack society of ireland
If someone told me in 1999 that in 2019 Donald Trump would be president and that many people would consider Jerry Hadley to be a paradigm of what it means to be a great tenor, I'm not sure which would have sounded crazier to me.
It's kind of shouted. Still musical, happily. But Tauber, McCormack, Jadlowker and even Araiza are objectively better. But I would prefer this over those extremely lightened voices that are usually associated with this repertoire
Opera Lover haha. So most of his vowels are in tune, but 90% of the /a/ vowels are flat either when he first hits it or for the duration. He was a marginal singer in his day and he’s only being lionized now by a movement that glorifies one type of improper singing because it’s slightly better than most of the other improper techniques we hear nowadays. He couldn’t shine Pavarotti’s or Domingo’s shoes... I’m sorry to say it.
Fritz fan NY hahah good one. He is actually 10 times better than pavarotti, 100 times better than mingo. The technique you are calling wrong is the pedagocically only technique. From corelli to caruso used chest voice top to bottom. Stop spreading your bs
Opera Lover You don’t even know what chest voice is dude. Corelli obviously did not sing in chest voice to high c. Calling Hadley better than Pavarotti makes you sound like a conspiracy theorist at best and a buffoon at worst.
Потрясающе! Слушаю по три раза подряд)
Spectacular, inspiring performance. RIP
I love it full chest voice unlike most who sound like they haven’t eaten for a week and could never sing the repertoire that Hadley could sing bravo 👏
This is awesome! Most "italian-way-style" of singing Mozart....Sung by American. What to say. Fantastic! :) I am overwelmed
Best performance of this aria I have heard! Proud it's an American!
Listen too Francisco Araiza and Luigi Alva
And listen to Stuart Burrows.
And Fritz Wunderlich and Jussi Björling

Amazing singing.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 my God woman, do you spend your life chatting shit about virtually every singer on virtually every social media platform?!
The perfect balance of lyricism and power. Bravo! ♥️
Glorious. Without compromise.
He conquered this aria, what a formidable Ottavio he was. 🙌
Grand, beautiful singing,

Such a masculine Ottavio! What a voice!
What a noble Ottavio! None of that Caspar Milquetoast quality so often thought to be Ottavio's character. A real man and nobleman.
I still have sadness over this great tenor's death by taking his own life n 2007. Rest in Peace, Jerry Hadley.
Did he suicide?
apparently shooting himself in the head with an air rifle

Wow, that was stunning!

Absolutely!
He and Fritz Wunderlich.🌹🌹
Bravo, Bravo!

Grande voce e grande interprete peccato che ci ha lasciato giovane
Great!!!
Grande Don Ottavio
💐🌹
It has been done better only rarely.
Así se debe cantar mozart
This is the ONLY damned tenor, who performs this boring part excitingly!
Ikr I think Wunderlich is great too, but Hadley takes the cake. Such a masculine sound!
Sad and pity to lose such a great talent -- no anti-depressant drugs to help?

Yes McCormack is generally held to have OWNED this aria (like, say, Pavarotti owns Nessun Dorma). But this is pretty damned good.
@@kenoliver8913 Luigi Alva also sings this really well on a par with mc cormack,I might be a little biased towards mc cormack as I am on the committee of the mc cormack society of ireland
McCormack was wonderful but in a different style. He was more fixed on the smooth Legato than on expressing the Text.
@@kenoliver8913 It is Franco Corelli who owns Nessun Norma.
He sharped quite a bit.
