Wow great demontrations, I admire yours skills and loving work on the models. I built the same 8 ships but am still learrnig. I didn`t know many of the tips an tricks
Olga, Proxxon's independent 4-jaw chuck accessory for your lathe would hold your square/rectangular stock better than the 3-jaw chuck does. Now all you need is some larger files (with handles!) to speed up your filing work on spars, etc. Micro-Mark still offers abrasive cord & abrasive tape (on spools) that might also be useful for sanding very small groves or similar in turned (or other) parts that you make.
Unfortunately Proxxon's 4-jaw chuck is made of plastic as opposed to the steel 3-jaw. Reviews of the 4-jaw are also unremarkable. Wonder if there is a aftermarket or other alternative to the plastic OEM offering?
I really enjoyed this video. I also have this lathe but have not used it yet. I am a little scared but watching your video, it's given me confidence to try it out. Thank you for a great video. 🙂
I have it, it is a very good lathe, a piece of advice, lubricate the tailstock bearing from time to time, they also sell a drill chuck as an accessory, very useful for making centered holes in the pieces PD: sorry olha ,i use google traslator

You used the wrong chuck, when you where turning square material. Square material needs a four jaw chuck, so you can actually center the piece and prevent it is all wobbling (probably the reason you used a file instead of the quality chisels from proxxon) . A three jaw chuck you used is perfect for round material.
That is really an absolute stunning piece or machine that you did add to your workshop !! I have worked with one in big scale, and I admire your skills, because this is really top notch work !!
Not sure if that stop starting is the lathe's fault or cause you didn't make the work piece cylindrical before cutting... I was pretty much sold on this lathe until that stop starting I saw here, lol
Probably not the best out there but is perfectly fine for what it is designed for, just don't push it beyond it's limits. I did managed to turndown some brass on it with care.
Great first time turning. Tips - Always rest your tool only on the tool rest, not on a finger. Get the rest as close to the wood as you can without touching (better leverage, control). Always turn the wood to check clearance before powering up. The tools supplied are a good set re shapes. For faster, cleaner turning, sharpen them to a near mirror finish. Watch a few pro woodturners on TH-cam, you'll get the idea.
Slightly depressing to see how often the rotation stopped just due to ordinary tool pressure--something I'd not tolerate on my junky Jet 48" And, selling you obviously dull chisels borders on the criminal. One of the things not easily appreciates is how, in miniaturizing machine tools, they need to be /more/ precise than their larger versions. It's one thing, to turn a 4" baluster, and only be good to ±0.00, but, at 1/48 scale, 5 thousandths is a quarter inch.
That's the problem with Proxxon, that they make mini tools, but not all of them are designed for precise work. For example, their table saw FET is ideal for building dollhouses (for this it was designed), but it is garbage for shipmodelers. It needs to be improved to double its cost before it can be used in shipmodelling... But at the same time, they make the best rotary tools. The MF70 milling machine is also a good helper. This lathe lives up to its value. That would be unacceptable for JET!
Ohla: You make some fine and very interesting videos but, you’re far too rapid with unpacking items. No chance to pause, read labels for detail and etc..
Olha, please post more videos on this lathe. I purchased it alongside with the accessories about 3 months ago and love it. Thank you for the upload. 😊
My pleasure!
A beautiful new tool for your shop, beautifully demonstrated with your neat, precise hands. I expect we will more of it and it's turnings.
Thank you very much!
You have a gift for mastering tools so quickly... 👍
Thank you! This tool is just really interesting and fun to work with...
Yes, would love to see more uses for the lathe! Thank you!
Will do!
It appears, you have mastered the lathe as well! Love to watch you work : )

WOW - plastic?
Although it makes sense to avoid damaging the wood...
Yes, would be great seeing where you are going to use the lathe!
I'm already collecting a video collection)))
I found on mine that the bottom rail isn't long enough. So I bought different aluminum rails and remounted it. Now I can do full masts.
Oh yes and I had to upgrade the end to a mini chuck because some of the wood we use is to soft for that point and it will cause wobble.
I too modified the tool rest.
That's a great idea!
I use my jet pen lathe with the pen blank chuck. Square stock no problem.
I really enjoyed this video. I also have this lathe but have not used it yet. I am a little scared but watching your video, it's given me confidence to try it out. Thank you for a great video. 🙂

Thank you ! Very usefull when planning to aquire one.
What a fantastic addition to your shop, congratulations!!!
Thank you!
tyvm for posting !! nice tool !

I didn't buy a four jaw chuck, but immediately after unboxing I understood why the manufacturer offers two options)))

Each new tool makes work easier and faster, and that's why this one also took its permanent place on the table...
@@OlhaBatchvarov I totally understand it that this one got his permanant place !!
I bought this lathe and it is magnificent for our hobby, it's great, thanks
Not sure if that stop starting is the lathe's fault or cause you didn't make the work piece cylindrical before cutting... I was pretty much sold on this lathe until that stop starting I saw here, lol
It was the result of dull chisels. Everything became much better when I sharpened them...

Вітаю з обновкою 🎉❤😊
Напевно гарний станок , якщо у Ольги є такий і мені подобається,
Також треба придбати 😊🎉
УСПІХІВ 🎉😊❤❤❤
Щиро дякую!
I use this mini lathe since a few days. No problem with hard wood. You need sharp tools.
Sure would make creating spars and some masts easier
This is the main task of this tool!
Thank you for your review of this tool...i have been considering obtaining this tool, but with a four jaw chock.
Thank you for watching!
Yep, I'll be ordering 4 jaw chock soon too. But 3 jaw chock is also needed when working with round parts...
Awesome tool I really got to get me one you can do so much with it 👍👍👍
Definitely!
Why did you use files and not the turning tools ? I always find them a lot quicker
Yes, it is! But if you need to work slowly so as not to cut off too much - then files become an ideal option!
Love your new set of tools for your projects Olah. Hope that you do use safety equipment when you are using your tools Olah 🙏.
Thank you!

Looks like a useful tool. Too bad it doesn't come with a set of your hands
Thank you!))))

А у вас биение на шпинделе присутствует? Если есть подкажите на сколько.
Пока все работает идеально! Никакого биения! А я его активно использую сейчас...
А там, в руководстве, не предлагают ради безопасности снимать кольца?
My pleasure!
Just wonder how long the motor will last
I am using it very actively now! We'll see in the future...
Should had a look at a Taig lathe instead
They have a completely different purpose!

you can use the settings to slow down the play- then it should be no problem
