Had a 09 f 150 traded at 220000 m. Only things replaced where tires 1 battery, purge valve at 200000, break pads at 200000 also. One morning it quit running looked at tank it was sucked up. Put a piece of wire in filler to allow air in. Drove to work called parts store for purge valve. First one came wrong one reordered got right one 5 days later. Drove at least 300 miles with wire holding flap open.
Remembering the good times with my 13 focus ST, of things breaking 24/7, weird electrical problems, going through evap purge valves like it was it’s job. I miss the power, but I certainly don’t miss the problems haha. It isn’t the fastest thing, but this port injected N/A 2.0L with a 6spd MT is fun enough for me and it’s a 20 year old formula of a motor, probably the last of its kind
Thanks man! I just replaced it on my wifes 2015 F150 Lariat 5.0 at 99,000 miles. She complained about erratic idle and now it holds steady at 500. The "blow test" checked out but I guess it was bad anyways. About $65 at local dealer Also, just replaced the starter (Motorcraft at local dealer, $240) much faster now!
Actually, this tank vapor recirc valve goes to heck on a lot of vehicles besides Ford. The tell-tale sign is a hard starting, like it’s flooded when the tank level is down and a lot of vapor is in the tank. Handy fix! Love it! ❤
Good to know, thank you! BTW, I've got a 2014 F-150 with the 5.0 and had to replace the water pump. My mechanic told me that was also a common replacement item after 100k miles. I'm thankful it was external and not a internal part like on the 2.7 and 3.5 engines. Or else it would've been a 17 hour job instead of a 1.5- 2 hour job!
I had same problem with my 2015 f150. When I’d fill up, it would start rough. But ran fine. After while, the CEL came on. Showed it was the PV. Changed it, and after about a week, the CEL went off. Haven’t had this problem again. Good video
This happened to me in my 2015 Explorer at 88k, after filling the gas tank, too. Turned the key and "START SYSTEM FAILURE " flashed in yellow on the dash. Didn't record a code, though. Took some research, Easy fix! Thanks for posting this, Rich.
Had to replace mine around 75k. Was told it was cause I was trying to “top off my tank” when putting gas. It wouldn’t crank at the pump and finally did. And then I pulled out on a busy road and the truck died. Stuck in the middle of the road. As Rich has said and my buddy who is a Svc Mgr at Ford, when the pump stops while filling up, never keep trying to put a little more in to round up the amount you pay or thinking you are adding a little more. My canister went bad too because of doing that. 2015 F150 with a little over 70K miles.
Thank you sir. For the last 3 months mine did The same thing after I filled up. The wrench icon came on and my truck went into limp mode. I turned it off for a few seconds. So When I started it back up it went away. And I filled up a second time. A couple weeks later, it did the same thing but that a problem hasn't occurred again 2011 F 150 l eco boost a 140345 miles
Drive a 2001 Crown Victoria and spark knock on grades, feels like torque converter not unlocking. I would have already changed out the torque converter lockup switch in transmission but I'm 64, blind in one eye, had detached retina in remaining eye weak arthritic hand's and have a hard time getting up off ground. I've helped scores of people over my 🔧 life, now that I need help there's nobody.
@@FordBossMe I know it's the switch, unlocks during forced downshift. Had 82 Chev truck do same thing, fixed it with dash mounted toggle switch to the wire that went to brake pedal that unlocked torque converter. I would replace fluid & filter when replacing the torque converter lockup switch. When you get old like me getting under a car is 10 times harder. Oh yeah, doesn't show any codes... maybe a dealer level scan might show it, but could replace everything I mentioned cheaper than getting it scanned.
Yeah, I drove to Sturgis, Kentucky from Carbondale, Illinois for fireworks last year and decided to fuel up as well when leaving. I was stranded at the pump for about 30 minutes because of that piece. lol
I'm going to have to see you,I must have anbnomoly here. 2016 f150 with a 5.0 with 210,000 mi, only had to change an oil pan gasket and a coolant fitting.
❤ QUESTION.. I Have a 2006, Jaguar x type.. My transmission has started slipping.. the indicator light for the transmission came on, once, and went off. I was looking at a couple of videos on line.. I thought I would replace the filter on it, hoping that will fix the problem. I also saw that if you have it flushed that particulars could get stuck.. I would love your input.. Thank you ❤❤
Replaced the Purge Valve on my 13 Camry last year, very easy to get at and very easy to do, as I am sure it is on all cars. I ended up getting a Check engine light. My scan tool said either Fuel Cap or Purge Valve. Fuel Cap was OK, so replaced the Purge Valve and problem solved. An easy fix that did not break the bank. (Valve was $120.00 Cdn)
I had to replace this on my 2015 f150 around 157,000 miles. So far this and the water pump at 152,000 miles are the only things I had to replace engine wise.

Hey Rich got a question for you. With all your experience with the eco boost engine what brand and type of engine oil is best for these turbo engines. Asking for myself as I bought my first turbo charged Tacoma
Yes mine wouldnt start after a fill up at about 180k miles. I would start on the 2nd try. Replaced this valve and that fixed the problem. But I replaced with one of Amazon and I had to replace it again 3 months later with OEM.
Rich do you know what would cause a 2018 F 150 3.5 Eco to run rough and stall sometimes? No codes, dealer says its fine. When it's in Denver, CO at altitude it runs normal but when we bring it back to Phoenix, AZ it sometimes stalls and runs rough, terrible MPG. Have ran a can of 44k on the drive between both cities and it seems to clear it up. Has about 60k miles and has had the cam phaser recall. Maybe it's heat related but not sure. Everytime it goes back to Denver it seems to clear up
My 2011 f250 has developed an issue where when I fill up with gas the truck will crank over but I have to hold the gas pedal down to get it to start like an older vehicle. Not every time but the more empty it is the more it does it. Also I hear pressure coming out of the gas cap when I open it up to fill. Maybe it's my purge valve? I thought maybe it was my in tank filter so I have been running some seafoam in once in a while. Seems better but not sure really.
They built it as cheap and complicated as possible and sell it for how much you will pay every month Rich they know your going to bring it back to the dealership for repairs it's about money for them 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
@@FordBossMe thanks. I was a fleet mechanic and many times the operator wouldn’t turn a truck in unless it didn’t run at all. Lol. I always enjoy your videos.

Mexico may have some issues....but suppliers make parts to the oem specs. And most failures are due to poor specs because software tells the oem when parts will fail. Many people just don't understand this fact. Maybe you do, but just wanted to clarify that its not always where the part is made that causes failures.
@@stevefischer6623 it would be nice if that was true. However having lived in El Paso Tx . I can tell you that many manufacturers had R&R facilities on the border . Due to so many parts put together wrong. My neighbor worked for a vacuum manufacturer. His job was to check every 15 or 20 crates pull a vacuum and check it he found so many not assembled properly or working. These where brand new vacuums. Another neighbor worked at a mopar facility they had AC condenser with dryers not sealed. Many other parts that were mopar that were supposed to be to specs but were not assembled properly or they used cheaper materials. But Chrysler never had anything done about it . 😕 truth
