    For many people TDD is the scariest, or the bunker, but for me it was a machine for pigs. The manpigs make this noise that just makes my skin crawl, i was utterly terrified in that part under the church and under the pistons. In the latter of the two a manpig noticed me when i was hidding under a table and it came charging at me, his body stopped on the edge of the table but his head came under only a few inches away from me. I screamed very loudly that day, so did my little brother who wanted to watch along. Rebirth's dessert fortress was also very scary to me but i wish the monster there actually roamed around. In any case it's cool to know that the manpigs are getting their spotlight now :D

      I hate the way they walk, it's unnerving.
      Their squeals are horrifying, they are much scarier than goofy zombie roars!

      The other two are also going to get their turn, I had a blast while making these, had to use a different program though as they refused to load properly in the other one
      but yes I agree, Machine for Pigs is quite underrated and does not deserve the bad reputation it get´s
      the build up in the church segment is really nicely done and Jessica Curry´s classy, yet haunting score gives the game a very distinct aura
      besides, you really cannot fault them for their scenery, Machine For Pigs environments and backdrops are extremely intricate and rich with detail (even if the level structure it´self is not)
      the only Minus for me was that through all this Grandeur, the game halfway through kind of forgot about the stealth it set up so nicely in the first half, it did come around in the end with a spectacular confrontation with the Tesla, but I would have hoped for a bit more consistency, nice nice to replay it after all these years

      @@umukzusgelos4834 Machine for Pigs is beautiful game, even though I would like to see more dangerous and intense confrontations with monsters.
      Many people complain about lack of monster encounters and various puzzles, but AAMFP doesn't really needs them. It's linear short story, focused on Mandus' tragedy, and lots of chase scenes/puzzles would kind of ruin the storytelling aspect. Sadly, most people don't understand this(

    They’re not the scariest monster in the amnesia series, but I think they’re still pretty well designed. One thing almost all amnesia monsters have in common is There’s something about them that almost evokes a sense of pity, in spite of the horror and disgust they also inspire. I think that’s as true for the pigs as anything else. They’re horrible, and they’re you’re enemy, yet you can’t help but feel a little bad for them.

    • @umukzusgelos4834
      @umukzusgelos4834  ปีที่แล้ว +21

      I agree, especially when you see them locked up in their holding pens, were they cry or play with their little cubes
      the Wretches in particular have something very childlike about them, even in the way they walk so clumsily taking those tiny steps
      they do abhorrent things and relish in them but yet I cannot blame them completely

    • @Radidsh
      @Radidsh ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I also feel pity for the roaming threats in the Amnesia universe, and I feel especially sad for these pig-like creatures seeing as they appear even more human-like. There are a few hints here and there which show slightly more intelligence and human traits which breaks my heart. As was mentioned, they cry and play with toys, but one of the events which I keep thinking of is the event in one of the cells.
      As one of them runs to attack you, and then it is yanked back due to the chains, and then after that fit of rage, it just immediately raises up patiently and walks back and sits down. I like to think that if this was any of the other creatures from the other games, they would instinctively and mindlessly attempt to attack and reach for you non-stop, despite being restrained in chains, that could just be me though, haha. But yeah, the developers for sure knew what they were doing, they wanted us to connect and feel pity for them for sure!

    ’We can reshape the body into a tool’ eerie how that was said, like with the gatherers of Brennenburg, where tools and/or weapons were affixed to the mangled bodies.
    I cannot start to imagine how being conscious during such a transformation would be like. It sounds similar to Wilhelm’s men in the wine cellar of the first game, where they would panic and experience the worst pain imaginable while transforming. If the poisoned wine contains the same matter as what Oswald used, then that makes sense. Also damn, the way these creatures walk and are animated with the aid of their right arm is terrifying to watch, now that I get a good solid look!
    Them showing signs of being intelligent is an interesting change compared to the gatherers of Brennenburg, who seemed more like dead husks wandering about, although they were known to clumsily follow orders, they did not seem to indulge in human activities, as appears to be the case with these Wretches. How you sometimes hear them sniffing and crying in pig-like sounds breaks my heart, how they on one hand sound like beasts and animals, but at the same time so human and capable of such sadness and emotion. At one point when I got close to one, it just got up and walked away to sob elsewhere, as if escaping my presence. I think this helps show the difference from the gatherers. Whereas the gatherers sometimes appear to be in despair, they always will be hostile while looking for and chasing Daniel, whereas these Wretches seem to even want to be left alone to their own sadness sometimes.
    The music near the end is very sweet. Is this the music that plays in their chambers deep below ground? I wonder if it helps them calm down, or if it reminds them that they were once human. Along with the music, I really like how you seamlessly transitioned between the close-up of the Wretched and the in-game footage.
    Enjoyed the insight and detailed close-ups, thanks for sharing.

    What I like about the creature Frictional Games does with its monsters is that they are designed purposefully most of the time not given a chance to get the details of the creatures. All you see is a tall, lanky, short but stocky, or blurring visage of a creature that you can't make out well enough. Gives a more sense of dread, not for being the most scary in designed, but fear of the unknown and difficulty in figuring out what the player saw before running.

    To be honest, I dont really like a machine for pigs, mainly because of "my great uncle" part at 1:22
    I dont think Alexander was carnally interested in humans during his time on earth, as i am pretty sure he kept reminiscing about his "love" back in the otherworld.
    As for Daniel being the great uncle, i cant really say yes or no; it just doesnt make sense. Daniel didnt experiment and tweak in the creation process of Grunts or Brutes, Alexander did, the former tortured and killed people as we all know.
    It feels like fanfiction almost, "my great uncle", which is what i dislike about a machine for pigs. Oswald could have gained the cadaver in some other way, but no, we gotta remind the player that theyre playing an amnesia game only in name by mentioning this "great uncle" figure

    • @umukzusgelos4834
      @umukzusgelos4834  ปีที่แล้ว

      I feel like the Great Uncle might be Daniel but that Oswald might be making a mistake by attributing Alexanders works as Daniels doing
      If we assume the ending where Daniel kills Alexander and escapes is cannon, it´s likely that he kept some sort of document that gives away the location but likely won´t mention much of the events to the public due to his own involvement
      Daniel from what we know seems to have worked for the british museum and was invested in archeology, which might be were Oswalds shared interest for the subject matter comes from
      It´s also not clear whether Great Uncle refers to a blood relation or perhaps a familial connection through some Marriage, as we never get to know Daniels second name, as he is only ever referred to as Daniel of Mayfair
      in that regard, I´d like to keep that backdoor open

      the main theme isn't just capitalism, it's horrors of 20th century overall. Capitalism was just one of them.

      Gotta love how everytime anything, be it a game, a movie or a book, makes even the slightiest critique to capitalism people instantly goes "bad/good game with a terrible message". Like, everyone has it's own view, but it's curious how criticize capitalism makes people instantly lower their view over something or someone, ain't it ?
      I, for one, believe the game does a good job at showing the crude reality of not only capitalism, but in general all the bads of the 20th century that sadly carried over to our times too.
