      Googling and i've seen a Macuahuitl used rectangular obsidian shards (that later sharpened). which one is more historical accurate ? one with sawtooth obsidian (triangular obsidian) or the other? and which one does better cuttings when use as sword?

  • @calibadgerdude6082
    @calibadgerdude6082 2 ปีที่แล้ว +37

    Macuahuitl scare the crap out of me. I remember seeing a picture in an old book about the Spanish conquest of the Aztecs and it showed them fighting with these things, and the wounds they were inflicting were horrific. Just the thought of getting whacked by a big stick covered in obsidian shards makes me repulse in horror, more so than any other weaponry I’ve ever seen. They’re fascinating weapons though, and aesthetically very appealing. XD

    This weapon reminds me of the paddle my elementary school principal,Mr Lee, used. He could put you back to factory settings with that bloody thing. Your wife is a gifted artist sir. So just between us, how many beers did it take to get her to say yes when you proposed? Enjoyed the build as usual sir. Was that obsidian flakes you used for the blades? If so, very beautiful and wicked sharp.

    Both you and your wife did fantastic work on this! The art was a nice touch.
    One of the scariest parts about this weapon is that it leaves bits of obsidian in the wounds it creates. Sure, it's already horrifying enough, looking like a cricket player's done messing around, but the fact that its business end(s) have embedded shards of glass in it makes it even worse.

      @@DiesInEveryFilm right, I just completed my grandma's birthday gift with my 4500 last night an I was up till one in the morning cause I forgot my routing jig. The wood was a huge piece of reclaimed pine and it says live laugh love the original piece was as long as a car but I cut a section off and my dead helped write the letters on it for me to carve. I then painted the letters a nice white color and engraved my engraved my name and date on the back it was an excuse to use my dad's carving kit he got for my dremmel this Christmas.

    Love it. It looks incredible. Kinda surprised you actually tested it, though I'm glad you did lol. I'm pretty sure you can see a piece of obsidian flying out and hitting the house in the last water bottle clip. Some kind of black resin may be a better option to hold those in, but then they'd probably break instead of just popping out.

    • @DiesInEveryFilm
      @DiesInEveryFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    In case people don't know; obsidian can very easily be chipped to surgically sharp edges. Pretty much the sharpest blade outside of metals.

    Where do you get the obsidian for this? And what is that black stuff used to mount the obsidian?

    • @DiesInEveryFilm
      @DiesInEveryFilm  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Got it from the internet and the black stuff is a pitch substitute glue

    The build, the art, the result; all rad as f*ck. The black hot glue was a great detail. Did you consider knapping the stone for the blades yourself at all?

    • @DiesInEveryFilm

      Cheers dude, I tried to get pitch but closest I found was the pitch substitute glue.
      Yeh i did but they wouldn’t send me blocks to do it myself unfortunately
