Need to submit self-attested copy of parents' PR cards when sending in the documents 3. For minors, left-hand thumb impression for all genders 4. Thanks for the detailed video. Place of Birth in child’s passport is ‘Mississauga CAN’. If I enter the same in online application then the printed registration form takes it as ‘Mississauga CAN, Canada’. I called BLS and they were not much sure. Someone said put it as Mississauga CAN and then said just put Mississauga. As you mentioned your daughter’s place of birth is Mississauga, could you please suggest what you had mentioned in online form. Thanks
I mentioned Mississauga CAN, which they said not allowed. Just mention city name alone without CAN, since Canada will be added automatically by the system in the final document generation.

Great video. Thanks! Inthe process of applying for surrender of Indian passport and OCI card. BLS Calgary advised to appky together to reduce overall time as they can be processed in parallel. Question is for documents uploaded as part of OCI aonline applcation - do those need to the be self attested first? or only the copies that are handed in physically at BLS require to be self attested? I understand the BLS agent checks the originals when you go into submit
Roop the documents which are being uploaded need not be attested. The physical copy which will be getting sent needs to be self attested. I did it that way.

1. Puralator will give you AWB number with which you can track. I did this way. 2. I paid for drop off service when sending documents. Put that copy along with other documents. 3. No original documents were sent Hope this helps

So to get an OCI card you need a surrender certificate and both need to be couriered separately: So total costs are $345+7.40+$95 courier fee Plus: $119+3+7.40+$95 courier fee. So total cost for OCI card is: $671 plus fees for photos $20 for surrender and $20 for OCI So total costs are $710 Ridiculous.

Hi do you know how long it is taking to process OCI applications in Toronto? I sent my application via Purolator on the 27th of Sept, it started getting processed by BLS on the 5th of Oct and showed up as under process on the Indian Consulate OCI tracking website on the 25th of Oct. When they say processing takes 6-8 weeks, do they mean from the time it is recived by BLS or by Indian Consulate?

We don’t have PR card , as parents we are Canadian citizens what should we upload in place of landing documents (Copr or Pr card). My son is also Canadian citizen .
It’s okay. When I made the video I had PR card and COPR. If you have Canadian citizenship you would have surrender India passport so that will hold good as it will show roots to India. Just make a call to BLS before sending documents to be at peace

Hi that should be a problem as long the foreign parent is not from restriction country. Here child will choose roots to India. Father is father is citizen otherwise mother. Indian parent will upload all India related document and foriegn parent foriegn passport. When it comes to marriage certificate make sure to call service agency(BLS) incase of Canada and check what exactly is required. Let me know how it goes.

The checklist points out I need to submit a 'Certificate of Renuncations' or an India passport with a canceled stamp. Looks like the Canadian authorities when issuing the Canadian passport did not stamp my Indian passport for cancellation. So do I need to provide a certificate of Renunciation now? b. The checklist also asks to provide a work letter. I am currently looking for a job and just freelancing. Do I still need to provide an employment letter? Thanks again for helping out.
Pranjal I don't have answer to first question as I did for my newborn daughter who is Canadian by birth. Regarding point 2, that should not be problem. As long as you have your Canadian passport and ties to India it will take care. Please call BLS once. India Passport even if not cancelled when you submit India should be able to update the record.

We just got the citizenship of Canada in 2024 and got the Canadian passport a month back. but we were born in India and were earlier having Indian Passport. 2. What should come in the relation with the root Indian? As a father , I am applying for OCI on behalf of my son. We as a family moved to Canada 3 years back. Looking forward to your answers.
Hi since you are now Canadian you will choose Canada as option. In your each Individual section you will choose “self” as you all were Indian before acquiring the Canada citizenship. If your son was born in Canada then his application choice will be father. Also can you call BLS once to verify documents requirement to be on safer side
Video was certainly very informative. I recently submitted OCI APPLICATION for myself and my son. Now status on OCI indicate that it has received by Toronto On Jun7. Now what next happens - I paid courier services 53 dollars not sure it covers both since no idea what is covered. Now have been calling and raising tickets but not getting hold any thing. What happens next do they call up or just courier the OCI card to us. Infact tracking number on OCI application indicate the status of Original Surrender Certificate which they send it back to us. Is that the same tracking number is applied for OCI card ? Appreciate any inputs or suggestion -
There is no original document to be submitted. Now that you have raised the tickets just relax and see the status of application. Once this is done from CGI you should get your OCI card if not then you reach out to BLS. It takes at-least 4-6 weeks to process. Since it is already with CGI you need not worry

For Temp work permit, please speak to BLS once. I don't want to misguide. With regard to thumb impression, one was just below the baby photo on application form (This was taken on a blank piece of paper and uploaded), and on the declaration form it was signature of application section. Hope this helps. Self attest is nothing but putting your signature and writing your full name below. For Brampton when I was trying getting appointment was difficult hence I sent it by post. All details given in the video.

Do we need to get the birth certificate authenticated or endorsed? BLS website mentions something like that for birth certificates that are issued in a foreign country. Not sure foreign means outside India or country of nationality which is Canada in our case. Thank you.

Hi Gopi, I am trying to send the docs via purolator from Richmond Hill to BLS Brampton by myself but purolator has given me a quote of $35+tax. Feels like $11 charge for you may be because you were closer to Brampton. Is my assumption right? If that is the case May be it would be better for me to opt for BLS pickup service then. What do you say?
I am not sure. It could be. Please don’t send through Purolator directly BLS don’t accept it anymore. Either go for walk-in or call BLS who will share payment link after which Purolator will pick from your home and drop it.

BLS centre is the nearest location to your place. I stay close to Brampton BLS so I sent postal package to them. CANÓ I am not sure. Just follow the steps in video you won’t go wrong

Very informative video. Just a quick question.. is there any specific order of documents to be sent. Or can just send the documents. Should we staple them. Also in the no objection certificate should be paste both the parents photographs or just send them.
Swathi, just make sure all documents are available. I had made a checklist and had organised accordingly. Also it has been some time since I sent documents so I don't remember. Incase it has not been asked to paste photo don't do it and sent separately. Hope this helps

Both parents if Canadian. Canada passport copy and India passport copy. Photocopy only 3. Both Parents valid Address proof 4. Marriage certificate (even if details are in passports as spouse) Fee and daughters photo These will cover all the details furnish in the application form. In the applications form , she will choose “SELF” as the Roots to India and fill in grandparent name as living in India.

Yes i watched it completely quite a few times.The only part i have a query with is the parental authorisation because at the bottom of the form it says need to be notarized but theres no coloum where it should be notarized.And part b declaration form too doesnt have the column for notarization.

I’m so glad you made this video. I’m glad you acknowledged how difficult it is, I tried calling 6 times and it was incredibly difficult to communicate with staff there. Any idea on how to make a pdf that is 1000kb for the passport photo page? Do you know if it’s absolutely necessary to enter all the family members OCI details? My mother just became Canadian citizen and is trying to get an OCI card. It’s been incredibly frustrating
While there are many online software available I would not recommend for passport due to sensitivity. Insead use paint to open photo and resize but remember to make duplicate copy. Even reducing to 80% will give significant savings
Regarding family ties. I don't have the answer to your question however logically If I want to be OCI I should get without anyone in India if I was Indian before

A few points to note for minor application:
1. Upload scanned copies of original documents
2. Need NOT upload PR card and COPR of the parents. Need to submit self-attested copy of parents' PR cards when sending in the documents
3. For minors, left-hand thumb impression for all genders
4. When entering the place of birth, if the passport has CAN in it, ignore that part and enter only the city name

Place of Birth in child’s passport is ‘Mississauga CAN’. If I enter the same in online application then the printed registration form takes it as ‘Mississauga CAN, Canada’. I called BLS and they were not much sure. Someone said put it as Mississauga CAN and then said just put Mississauga.
As you mentioned your daughter’s place of birth is Mississauga, could you please suggest what you had mentioned in online form.

I mentioned Mississauga CAN, which they said not allowed. Just mention city name alone without CAN, since Canada will be added automatically by the system in the final document generation.

Great video. Thanks! Inthe process of applying for surrender of Indian passport and OCI card. BLS Calgary advised to appky together to reduce overall time as they can be processed in parallel. Question is for documents uploaded as part of OCI aonline applcation - do those need to the be self attested first? or only the copies that are handed in physically at BLS require to be self attested? I understand the BLS agent checks the originals when you go into submit
Roop the documents which are being uploaded need not be attested. The physical copy which will be getting sent needs to be self attested. I did it that way.

So to get an OCI card you need a surrender certificate and both need to be couriered separately:
So total costs are $345+7.40+$95 courier fee
Plus: $119+3+7.40+$95 courier fee.
So total cost for OCI card is: $671 plus fees for photos $20 for surrender and $20 for OCI
So total costs are $710
Ridiculous.

Hi do you know how long it is taking to process OCI applications in Toronto? I sent my application via Purolator on the 27th of Sept, it started getting processed by BLS on the 5th of Oct and showed up as under process on the Indian Consulate OCI tracking website on the 25th of Oct.
When they say processing takes 6-8 weeks, do they mean from the time it is recived by BLS or by Indian Consulate?
Expect 4-6 week’s turnaround

In the video you mentioned you submitted just your driver's license.
One parents address proof only
We don’t have PR card , as parents we are Canadian citizens what should we upload in place of landing documents (Copr or Pr card).
My son is also Canadian citizen .
It’s okay. When I made the video I had PR card and COPR. If you have Canadian citizenship you would have surrender India passport so that will hold good as it will show roots to India. Just make a call to BLS before sending documents to be at peace

Hi that should be a problem as long the foreign parent is not from restriction country. Here child will choose roots to India. Father is father is citizen otherwise mother. Indian parent will upload all India related document and foriegn parent foriegn passport. When it comes to marriage certificate make sure to call service agency(BLS) incase of Canada and check what exactly is required. Let me know how it goes.

Looks like the Canadian authorities when issuing the Canadian passport did not stamp my Indian passport for cancellation. So do I need to provide a certificate of Renunciation now?

Regarding point 2, that should not be problem. As long as you have your Canadian passport and ties to India it will take care.
Please call BLS once. India Passport even if not cancelled when you submit India should be able to update the record.

2. What should come in the relation with the root Indian? As a father , I am applying for OCI on behalf of my son. We as a family moved to Canada 3 years back.

Hi since you are now Canadian you will choose Canada as option. In your each Individual section you will choose “self” as you all were Indian before acquiring the Canada citizenship. If your son was born in Canada then his application choice will be father.

Video was certainly very informative. I recently submitted OCI APPLICATION for myself and my son. Now status on OCI indicate that it has received by Toronto On Jun7. Now what next happens - I paid courier services 53 dollars not sure it covers both since no idea what is covered. Now have been calling and raising tickets but not getting hold any thing. What happens next do they call up or just courier the OCI card to us. Infact tracking number on OCI application indicate the status of Original Surrender Certificate which they send it back to us. Is that the same tracking number is applied for OCI card ?
Appreciate any inputs or suggestion -
There is no original document to be submitted. Now that you have raised the tickets just relax and see the status of application. Once this is done from CGI you should get your OCI card if not then you reach out to BLS. It takes at-least 4-6 weeks to process. Since it is already with CGI you need not worry

For Temp work permit, please speak to BLS once. I don't want to misguide. With regard to thumb impression, one was just below the baby photo on application form (This was taken on a blank piece of paper and uploaded), and on the declaration form it was signature of application section. Hope this helps.
Self attest is nothing but putting your signature and writing your full name below.
For Brampton when I was trying getting appointment was difficult hence I sent it by post. All details given in the video.

Do we need to get the birth certificate authenticated or endorsed? BLS website mentions something like that for birth certificates that are issued in a foreign country. Not sure foreign means outside India or country of nationality which is Canada in our case. Thank you.

Hi Gopi, I am trying to send the docs via purolator from Richmond Hill to BLS Brampton by myself but purolator has given me a quote of $35+tax. Feels like $11 charge for you may be because you were closer to Brampton. Is my assumption right? If that is the case May be it would be better for me to opt for BLS pickup service then. What do you say?
I am not sure. It could be. Please don’t send through Purolator directly BLS don’t accept it anymore. Either go for walk-in or call BLS who will share payment link after which Purolator will pick from your home and drop it.

Very informative video. Just a quick question.. is there any specific order of documents to be sent. Or can just send the documents. Should we staple them. Also in the no objection certificate should be paste both the parents photographs or just send them.
Swathi, just make sure all documents are available. I had made a checklist and had organised accordingly. Also it has been some time since I sent documents so I don't remember. Incase it has not been asked to paste photo don't do it and sent separately. Hope this helps

Yes i watched it completely quite a few times.The only part i have a query with is the parental authorisation because at the bottom of the form it says need to be notarized but theres no coloum where it should be notarized.And part b declaration form too doesnt have the column for notarization.
Hi there is no notarization required, can you please specify the timestamp where it is mentioned to get notarized? Also on the declaration form I have mentioned where minor thumb impression is required below that both parents need to sign. You will not go wrong filling the form as it is shown in the video. I am not sure what problem you are encountering however can you take photo of passport to word document, set it one after other and once it is there as you want convert that to pdf. Hope this solves as you will have everything in one document

While there are many online software available I would not recommend for passport due to sensitivity. Insead use paint to open photo and resize but remember to make duplicate copy. Even reducing to 80% will give significant savings
Regarding family ties. I don't have the answer to your question however logically If I want to be OCI I should get without anyone in India if I was Indian before
