This is kind of random: 20 years ago (I was 14) Birger Caspersen was my neighbor. He heard I wanted to start lifting weights so he built a bench/squat rack out of wood in the bunker in the apartment complex were I lived. I never really knew who he was, I just recognized him on the picture in this video. What a legend! The rack is still standing :D
If you're not incorporating outdoor stone training into your workout, you're missing out on an amazing experience, and serious strength. Stones are incredible!
How do you track improvement and progress when you can’t really track the weight or shape of stones? In the gym, I have my phone to track my snatch form, the barbell is always the same shape, and I could always add plates for a PR. Looks hella fun to lift in nature though. The closest I get is in front of the garage door.
If you have your own stone you can do stone to shoulder for reps or carries for distance or speed. All of this can be timed and tracked. If you just train with random stone think of it as an accessory move. Just have fun training them in different ways and don't worry about it, but watch your gym lifts go up from the added overall strength your getting😁
In Japan there's Chikairishi (power stones I think it translates as). Quite a few temple still have them and apparently there's a championship with them in Soja where they sort of attach one to a bar of some sort by straps and whoever holds it up the longest wins. If nothing else it would be worth visiting some of the lifting stones in Japan as each one of them always seems to have a really interesting history
He did it. I got introduced to this channel by the Chikairishi and Sumo videos just published and they are awesome. Top quality content, so wholesome and interesting.
Apparently age caught on to Odd Haugen finally. To those how think this is sad, remember that when his prodegy Martins got world strongest man, he was already 69 years of age. And back than he was still actively taking part in Martins training. He deserves his retirement. He has nothing left to proof. All that he needs to do now is to tell his starries as he remembers them at the pace adequate for his age to every person intelligent enough to listen to the tales of an old legend who about has seen it all or at least more than enough of it. Great of Martins to visit the man who made I'm and get him on his channel once more. Although it is kind of sad to imaging that it might be the last time, I'd be glad to have as much of my energy left in my late 60s as he had and to be as fondly remembered by the people I cared for as he is now and will be even beyond his death although may he live another happy 40 years. It feels kind of nice to imagine him being 110 years old telling his caretaker how to use his strength more efficiently when pushing his wheelchair.
7:08 The ships mast *(Ormrinn Langi)* is 10 ft long and 650 kg (1,433 lb) heavy. Hafthor did 5 steps, not 3. Orm Storolfsson did 3 steps 1,000 years ago, but broke his back and was never the same.
Absolutely incredible and brought a tear to my eye watching master and former trainee who has become a master. The mutual respect and admiration is amazing.
Nice to get a mention of Birger Carpersen. I trained with him about 20 years ago, still doing heavy lifts, just a few years before he died. He was a very joyfull man, spreading the love to everyone around ❤
Love watching the stone carries. Fascinating to watch these stones being lifted that have a history going back 500 to 1,000 years! It's our human heritage!
This video is awesome! Keep grinding! Question for you... have you ever used Next Level Diet? I got a custom muscle-building meal plan from them and it's really working for me.
This was awesome! Your humble personality and Odd Haugen is a perfect fit, i met him in 2009 norway strongest man and talked a bit to him as a spectator, and i am born and live in trondheim, so this was beautyfull to see! You both are legends in my mind!
KK-67, I trained there sometimes back in 08 and 09! Cool to see familiar places on this channel. The Kaliber gym in Trondheim also had some really good strongmen back then, they had 2 winners of Norway's Strongest Man training there, with several other talented ones along with them.
This was awesome to see where Odd came up, he's super interesting. Would love to see some more of his history. Some of my favorite videos were you guys lifting at the training hall, 2-3 years ago.
I stayed at Fefor for a corporate retreat in 2019, and we had a good time attempting to lift a couple of their implements after dinner (and the accompanying multiple beers).
Great episode. So nice to see Od featured and some of his background. This series has been so good. the histories and cultures you've shown, very entertaining, and all of it so well written. Bravo.
This is a great series. I only just found the channel, didn't know Martins had one. Lots of great videos. Look forward to watching them all over the coming weeks.
If you're going to Greenland there are great strength communities in Nuuk (the capital), Ilulissat and Aasiaat with many great athletes sharing great friendships. I highly recommend checking those out! Also there finally is a governing federation for the sport of strongman in Greenland called GFSA.
An amazing series guys beautifully shot and alot of heart I will rewatch this series again and again can't wait to be cheering you on at the Rogue Invitational Martins congratulations Romark great work 👍

Amazing episode, I appreciate you guys so much for going out of your way to make such high quality videos. Love you guys can't wait to see the next competition!
Great content and amazing production quality as always Romark. A 4k upload would step it up even more though and would help reduce compression artefacts :)

please martins, i would really love to see you travel to japan and visit a sumo stable. Because sumotoris are literally strongman and i've been a fan of both, i would love to see a strongman tries sumo
If you're going to Pakistan, I'm pretty sure they have that stone lifting there. If you're not sure what I'm referring to, Zack Telander did a video on it. It's fricking incredible, men are Olympic lifting big boulders

@@Adam33067 sometimes it helps to stop worrying about all that stuff and just smash out a set of "lift big rock, problem in head go away"
@@Adam33067 You could probably hold the stone and step on a scale to weigh it.
@adam10312 pick up a bigger rock, walk with it... walk farther next time.
Then find an even bigger rock. Or a fallen tree

Interesting. For those who haven't seen it, Zack Telander did a video of stone lifting in India. Seems like kind of a universal thing.

How Can you be sure it is not just a tale Im not sure where you are from but there is many storys like these
@@jeqsteaerWe have quite a lot of archeological stuff left here in Scandinavia. Not sure about this one though.
Absolutely incredible and brought a tear to my eye watching master and former trainee who has become a master. The mutual respect and admiration is amazing.

Great video big man. Your background definitely plays into the Champ and international competitor you are today
This is the best series I have watched on TH-cam. It’s one of the best I have ever seen. It ranks up there with Anthony Bourdain.
I cant wait for the next segment of the series!
3:20 Martins (& I) Thought she was saying the literal year: "15 or 16", as in the beginning of where we are now at: "2,023".
16:16 Jorma Räty, a well known Finnish weightlifter and bodybuilder. So cool to see his photo there!

Great video Odds the man!
When Odd trained there back in the day there was no such thing as cell phones and Wi-Fi
No phones or electricity either.
It was covered in a mile of ice and mammoths roamed the earth.
Awesome epsode!
Aren't there a lot of underground buildings in Norway? Relics from the cold war?
