It is great seeing that such an ancient tradition of functional strenght building remains in modern countries. I am aware that in Chinese and Japanese martial arts there is also an ancient killer grip building exercise where they grip heavy ceramic jars filled with sand from the rim. Unfortunately here in Greece stone lifting has not survived in modern times even though in ancient Olympics weightlifters performed an one-handed overhead press with massive stones. There is still one dating from 600 B.C. in Olympia's museum, Bybon's stone, that now weighs 316 pounds and on it is written " Bybon, son of Phola, has lifted me over [his] head with one hand".
I felt the same way frustrated I couldn't find a Pankration school in Greece for my nephew . We even had one in Canada but it seems people want the new or trendy methods instead.
@@viciouslady1340 Unfortunately modern Pankration is not an ancient martial art like grecoroman wrestling for example. Pankration was like mma and no manuals remain save for some moves that are found in most grappling sports. Love this Bourdain-inspired take on fitness content! What a breath of fresh air
Martins is so articulate and respectful of others!
Loving this new travel series, Martins! On the subject of the twirling blocks similar to kettlebells, China and Russia have a long storied history of cultural exchange dating back centuries due to both war and trade. They could have inspired each other.
I would love to see strength, not just Olympc weightlifting, and more recently, powerlifting, grow in Asia. Incredible quality, once again. Thank you Romark and Martins.
Been to 11 countries and always checked out local food. Loved every minute of it.
Come to India. We are lifting a stone called 'Nal' approx. 140 kg by One hand only. You can see on youtube also.
We need more of this in the world. Good work, man.
I shortly discovered Martins´es chanel and the Strength Unknown Series and I can only say WOW. I can´t stop watching these videos, amazing sceneries, great people, incredible feats of strength a perspective that there are things in live like strength cultures that can overcome all kinds of borders we rise between one another. Great Content and I can´t wait to see more.
Martins could narrate anything and id listen for days. Great job Crew :)
Awesome work on this, keep it up man I keep coming back to your stuff after years of watching.
you've done it again, absolutely fantastic series and it keeps getting better💪
This is so interesting and so well made. I love seeing how stoked you get experiencing something new like this as well and it makes it very fun to watch
Great video Martins!
Shared and wishing you and Romark all the best👍🏼💪🏼
Thank you brother! 🙏😎 Please help spread the word.
Man, it pains me to see that I missed you for a 2nd time... Even closer this time since I live in Shanghai. I actually used to train at "+5 pounds" (Scott's gym). Fun to see you there. Good guy, but in my very humble and utterly unimportant opinion though, there are many more, much better gyms in Shanghai by now. But that is beside the point entirely.
It's beautiful to see you come to China and ask the viewer (especially your US / Western European fanbase) to set aside any preconceived notion and / or bias and to show them the human side of China; far away from the fraught politics of our times; all through the lens of strength. Just brilliant. You're a force for good!
We will be in September for Chinese strongest in Shanghai! Dates to be determined but it’s in September!
@@MartinsLicis unbelievable! so, 3rd time really is a charm, huh? Would be an absolute honor to meet you there!
Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to seeing what you did with the absolute legend Lü Xiaojun.
I just jumped back onto TH-cam after a year off Social media and I am blown away at the quality and new direction Martin has taken. This is so awesome. So much great and fulfilling content to catch up on!
First time that i've seen your content and it has been such an inspiration for me. The honesty, curiousity and will to learn truly shows.
Thank you for sharing.😄
This is one of the coolest videos I've seen in a while. China looks awesome. Those stones look so fun
Friggin amazing! What a community... so envious!
Can’t wait for pt. 2!!! 🔥🏋️♂️
So awesome you're doing this series! Definitely hear the Bourdain inspiration in your writing and narration too.
This series may be one of the most amazing things to happen to lifting culture in recent years.
I've lived in Shanghai since 2004. I started doing Stone Lock (石锁) in 2005 at Zha Bei Park. so much fun.
Incredible! Thank you for the travels ! Looking forward to the next instalment in China. Regards from LA
Awesome!! Was a pleasure to meet and learn from you guys!! 🤙🤙🤙
Man. This series is so amazing. Can’t wait for the next part.
This series just keeps getting better.
I sincerely hope this reaches the masses
Happy that this has all been coming to fruition for you guys💪🏼
Don't know how you keep doing it guys, but each episode is better than the last one, mega congrats. Can't wait for the next one
This is awesome. This entire series is so awesome.
I don't even lift... and I still find this series fascinating and wholesome
Damn good work, bros
Love the Anthony Bourdain style you have followed, it is so deep and close to my heart. Thanks !
Thank you! Please spread the word!
China has invested heavily into weightlifting and gymnastics(with the most olympic gold medals in both sports) for decades and has a long history of physical fitness culture. It's no surprise these old timers are doing this in a park. I'm sure if you talk to them they maybe tell you stories their past glories as provincial/city level weightlifting/gymnastics champions or something similar
Martins voice overs give me the Roosevelt man in the arena vibes, Jocko has that voice too, we need a docco on Martins!!
This is amazing. this can end up being a documentary. Make this a series fr.
No deep squat contest?! Asian people are the only ones who can out-depth the Slavs!
We need 45 minute long videos of these!!!!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🔥
AMAZING FOOTAGE AND SERIES! WAY TO LEVEL UP BROS!
Just discovered this channel, you are just amazing its like you are on a journey to discover the beauty of strength across the whole world.👍👍
