Sandler seems like a genuinely nice guy, he keeps his friend employed year round and give them gifts and just have a good time at sets. Some may say he makes stupid comedy but that is kind of his charm and he knows his audience, they expect nothing more. Alot of times peoples just want to turn off their brain when watching a movie and just watch a silly comedy.
Yeah ....and then he did that disturbingly weird scene where the dog licks peanut butter off the kids in some perverse family game involving Fido , and immediately freaked me out . I never have been able to watch another Sandler movie the same way . I can do 'freaky' ...but that one crossed a line.
PS I wonder if any movie executives tried to pitch "The Waterboy" as "Forrest Gump" meets "Misery". That would've been my interpretation. Being a fan of Rob Schneider means never having to say you're sorry.
Its funny to me how the only people seemingly criticizing Adam Sandler are people who didnt grow up with his movies. Its interesting. Sandler has been a solid comedian and comedic actor for decades. He is responsible for all time classics as Water Boy, Happy Gilmore, Billy Madison, 50 First Dates, Click, Dont Mess with the Zohan, The Longest Yard, Jack and Jill, That’s My Boy, Punch Drunk Love, just off the top. Too many gems. He worked alongside Jack Nicholson, Don Cheadle and Christopher Walken. He nailed all his dramatic roles like Reign Over Me or Uncut Gems. It really feels like the only people hating are the recreational hate folk.

He might have just been busy with his family life. Because it's not just the Adam Sandler movies that suffered, it was the Happy Madison brand in general. The 90's/early 00's had Adam's hand on every single project. By the time we got to stuff like Strange Wilderness, it's clear they had a funny idea and just needed to go oveer the script a couple more times.

I've never understood the humor in his movies, anyway. While most were lighthearted and amusing, the humor was pretty juvenile. Nothing against Sandler himself, I'm sure he's a wonderful person. He does a phenomenal job in a lot of his more serious roles, for example in Reign Over Me where he plays a man whose wife and kids were on one of the planes that was hijacked and crashed into the WTC on 9/11.

As a movie goer I do my best to avoid seeing Adam Sandler movies. Despite this, I have seen a few. "Airheads," (did not know who he was at the time) "The Wedding Singer," (hated Ebert's review, even though he's kind of right) "Punch Drunk Love," (overrated, but saw it) "50 First Dates," (it's no Wedding Singer, but it's okay) "Spanglish," (like "Elizabethtown" it meant well) "Funny People," (could have been funnier, but not bad) "The Meyerowitz Stories." Hofmann was right, Sandler needed to come up to his level to work together and credit to Sandler he did. I think for Hoffmn to have been in Billy Madison at that stage in his career would have been a big mistake. His opportunities could easily have become more limited despite his talent with the association. The kind of directors looking for what we know Hoffman for later are particular and I am not sure Hoffmann was established enough to get a despite to balance out.

The stuff they said about people thinking the ridiculous 6 movie was racist and racially insensitive is completely not true nobody actually thought that.. I mean a few extremist may have thought that but that's not how the movie was taken at all and it was pretty much a success but they don't want to admit that.. They acted like people were mad at the jokes and the costumes lol That's also a lie
I only like one Adam Sandler movie , the wedding singer. And I love that movie . All the rest I can’t stand
