He knows Anakin has fallen but still wants to reason with him. It’s why people still visit family members in prison even if they did horrible things.
For me those are the most absurd moments/worst parts in the prequel trilogy and shouldn’t have happened. Being that monster then being an absolute hero for his son later doesn’t work.

The whole reason why much of the galaxy started to despise the jedi is because the stopped being keepers of peace and were now military leaders and hypocrites. being a jedi is about letting go of your secular attachments so the will of the force can flow through you. The sith believe in bending the force to their will by harnessing their emotions. This is why Luke's new order was so significant because he believed that having attachments can strengthen your connection in the Living Force when Yoda taught him the opposite. The jedi have been known to kill whole tribes of people and torture criminals and prisoners of war.

It wasn't until their Order fell and had to go into exile were they able to reflect and learn where they went wrong and it mostly had to do with neglecting Anakin so much. I hope someday someone makes it happen using AI.
Anakin was just troubled with lust, love and depression that he took it out on all who cared about him and he truly regretted it and all he could do was apologize over and over and over know that it couldn’t he changed or reversed.
