I love the slow pace of the show. It almost feels like we experience Frieren‘s prolonged life with her. A 25 minute episode feels like 45 minutes in the best way possible.

      it never felt slow.
like every episode wraps up 2 different often unrelated story. how can that be slow. just cuz it is not hypefest doesnt mean it is slow.
it is dense, and incredibly well paced.

It resonates. They managed to make me understand a bajillion year lifespan by focusing on little moments. We always regret not spending more time with people who are gone. We remember the stupidest stuff when we think back fondly. Everyone knows regret and sentimentality- and it seems like we are watching frierens.

Frieren has made me constantly think about the decisions i make in my life and who i want to spend time in my life with. its a story but more importantly a sign and lesson to those who feel caught up in the rush of life.

The show pulls a trick I love. There are two stories (past, present) with three story arcs (past, present, bridging).
The charity case of the week story. (We usually enter into someone elses second act and help them, but it could be a party members birthday e.t.c.). We learn about the world and its people.
The flashback arc, where we learn about a second story that had happened (usually involving Frieren). Learning, about how the history of the world and our characters pasts.
The bridging arc... Where something about Frerin gets revealed in the flashbacks, and that gets payed off in the present (usually for Frieren, sometimes for Stark or Fern). Showing character growth and adding impact to the past and present.
Hamburg steaks are a great example of a bridging arc.
Having all 3 story arcs ties the flashbacks together with the present, but neither are simple exposition for the other.

I swear, i could make a video about each of the singular arcs on their own because they provide so much value to the show in their own ways. it's amazing that every event matters

the director played a really big part in frieren
he's responsible on the hart hitting emotional scenes, directing evan call on the scenes to make the song hits that much harder
but the animators definitely breath a new air into the anime since they're the ones that suggests the epic fight scenes from what I've heard

He also did Bocchi, which is a directorial masterpiece. He really elevates a cute, but pretty basic music slice-of-life with remarkable creativity.

this anime only have 28 episodes and did almost everything right. I'd put Freirin on the slice of life genre. The story might be focus on Freirin, an elf, but the impact of her interactions, reminds us, the watchers, how the human lifespan is short and very limiting. And with that being said, how lucky are we to have watch this masterpiece on our lifetime?

I actually gave up watching anime bcoz of the stadards that most anime has fallen into these days. an op character, non sense side stories op fight scenes which sometimes does not make any sense anymore. im 36 yr old and started loving anime since teenager. every now and then, I just check whats going on to some of my fav anime but no longer have the passion to sitdown and watch episodes bcoz most of the time its just pure entertainment and learn nothing. Until I came across spy x family. spy x family gave me the excitement again to sit down and watch episode after episode bcoz there is sense to it and simple life lessons and now I watched frieren and wow. I may put frieren and best anime for me then spy x family.

Stark is a goober when he's normal but when it comes to combat, he can keep up with Frieren and Fern because he's just a sleeper in both prowess and intellect. it's refreshing to see when normally, he can be a little bit of a scaredy cat.

    I'm so confused about Frieren.
Does it explore some deep narratives or philosophical contexts? No. Not really. Characters don't face moral dilemmas or conquer inner daemons. There's no conflict.
Is the setting groundbreaking or unique? No, quite the opposite. They avoid much of exposition simply by utilizing well established tropes.
Does the story have breathtaking twists and turns? No. Not like you could seriously spoil anything in the series.
It is a solid, good anime? Yes. Yes, it is.
Did i enjoy it? Absolutely. Way more than i expected.
Is it a masterpiece? Ummmm. I wouldn't say so. It's just a well done, mature story. Sometimes sentimental, sometimes funny, sometimes sad, sometimes dynamic, sometimes slow and mellow.
    It's just.... GOOD.
I have suspicion that it took community by the storms simply because... most anime is crap, lets' face it. And Frieren has all the initial signs of yet another crappy anime... but it's not. It threads on the soggy ground of the samp of overused tropes and imagery but manage not to sink in it. And it looks like magic.

Good, beautiful show. All the praise it gets is well-deserved.
But story-wise it's not like complicated piece. Which is not a bad thing, not every story should be 5d brain twisters.

Yeah makes sense, I think Frieren just resonated with a lot of people, both young and old fans of anime and even beginners, it's fun, it's lighthearted and a lil heavy at times and has a mix of everything, the adventure, romance, comedic timing, etc etc. The slow pace allows the audience to just get drawn in and lets you follow its tempo. Like you said, you enjoyed it way more than expected and I think with all the tropes and how the story goes, everything feels right for the audience. You can feel sad for Stark and Denken's backstory, laugh at Frieren stuck in them mimics or just appreciate the intriniscs connection to time with magic like its a science and feel how it impacts all the fights with past and new enemies and so forth.
Like sure, with the way people describe it, and the recency of people who may think it's overrated as a 'masterpiece', but that's the effect of ratings and other people describing a show can do. No singular subjective comment or review about anime can completely justify why it's definitely 'number 1' especially on a site like MAL. But Frieren's just incredibly enjoyable to a majority of people because it does simplicity of everything very well.

Still recency bias, it will die down eventually. It’s not “the best anime of all time.”

I had liked the video and was enjoying it until you pulled up the fake accusations against George and played him as a creep and more. I'd advise you to know your facts before speaking. She literally ran away and hid her profile. Clicked off instantly and disliked and unsubbed.
