Frierens attention to details blows my mind. For example in ep10 efter Flamme death theres timelapse of Frieren mastering mana suppression through 1000years. This timelapse lasts for 50 seconds. Next we have a scene where she joins the heroes party and another timelapse starts. Heroes 10year journey timelapse lasts only for 0.5sec. Exactly 1/100 of 50sec (1000yrs).
Also note, that Old man Voll played a great role on why Himmel never told Frieren how he truly feels. He felt that it would become Frieren's curse if he did. It's just a slight expression from Himmel when Voll was telling his story, but it was there. In return, Himmel made Frieren remember him and his story.

Just one issue. You said “mad house was top dog before mappa took their crown”….nah fam, Kyoto animation, trigger and STUDIO BONES . Mad house was included in that OG top dog status but mappa didn’t steal shit. They have been the “flavor of the month” for a bit now but nothing they have done can overcome the works of those other studios . They literally set the foundation of what anime is these days as an artistic medium. And if you want to go even further back both bones and trigger are primarily made up of older animation groups. While mad house was doing trigun back in 98, the primary group that made up bones was making bebop …..there’s levels to this shit
Agreed. What I hate about madhouse is that they don't make second seasons, so animes they make tend to have worse subsequent seasons by comparison. Other studios worth noting are Wit Studios and Ufotable. Though they tend to only work on one IP at a time, which is the opposite of Madhouse xD can't have the best of both worlds, sadly.
@@Faun471 they have had quite a few anime that haven’t gotten second seasons, that part is true. But they’ve had a few that have hd second seasons . Also a studio is not a “set” amount of employees like it used to be. This can work both in favor of and against a second season. It’s not like the same people that used to work at madhouse are the ones still working there for the lost part, but that lack of stability can also lower the odds of a second season if you want to look at it that way. However …….Frieren has been so massively successful that I simply can’t see a company that is in the business of making money NOT fight tooth and nail to make another season. This has easily been madhouse’s most financially successful project and it has basically tripled manga sales. At the end of the day this is a business , and if they are smart they will understand what they have and how they achieved it and take steps to do their best to replicate it. They didn’t have Frieren say “matta ne” during the ep 28 preview for nothing. That shit was intentional. At the very least we know they are trying their best to get a second season , so even if they don’t get it , it won’t be because “mad house doesn’t like to do second seasons”. If they don’t do one it will be because of circumstances outside of madhouses control imo
I said Madhouse were top dog because they were able to have both quality and quantity whereas other amazing studios like the ones you mentioned would make significantly less shows but still outstanding works. 2:40 I think that's usually misunderstood. It's how she wants to be understood (a coping mechanism & mask) but not why she is who she is. All her flashbacks show a withdrawn child, she chose to isolate herself outside communities for her entire life. It's not age... It's trauma and neurodivergance. She's the isolated recluse lacking socialisation that Fern is. The trauma riddled survivor inadequate to her destiny that Stark is. The avoidant regretful overthinker that Stein is. Other elves have experienced so much, had so many bonds they end up becoming detached. Lived full lives in which they are the shadow left behind. That's a very new situation for Frieren... She's only just tried living 80 years back, and only been emotionally open to that within the last three or four She only claims time is why she's aloof because the truth of who she is is sadder, more private, and less comfortable to talk about. Only Flamme and the audience know the truth.
Yes. Which is argument I didn't fully understand. After all Frieren is sad, nostalgic, but also happy series. It might have focused too much on "happy" and "upbeat" part of it, but it wasn't bad. Mismatch wasn't that jarring and it honestly grew on me.
@@liamnidas To me because I knew Manga it wasn't jarring. I knew there is more to Frieren than first or first 4 episodes and that "upbeat" is warranted, because they are upbeat moments in Frieren. Heck, whole story is positive, even though yes it is also contemplative (so where perceived mismatch comes from). But contemplative doesn't mean you have to play slow, contemplative song as an OP. It reminds me of when Pope John Paul II died and there was mourning in my country. Every radio station for a week played only depressing classical music that they have no knowledge of. Despite said Pope being a quite cheery person. It made it worse, because they played music that they "felt" suited occasion, but completely missed the character of person they mourned. On the other hand, Frieren's OP caught character of the show very well.
My only complaint is the "Catch a Birb Arc" was a bit too long and boring, with too many characters I don't care about and will probably never see again. Still give it 10/10. If it weren't for that, I'd give it 11.
I found it to be very necessary as there was much more to be unraveled during this. We had only just been introduced to the whole class system of Mages and it had to be fleshed out some. A lot of the time during this exam was used to introduce us to this system, the magic world and most importantly we got to see what differentiated an experienced mage from novices - as in Denken. It was honestly Denken's arc to me.
I can understand why you the arc could be boring to some, especially with the noticeable lack of Stark. But I enjoyed it and I really connected with a lot of the characters. Also, this was definitely Denton's arc for me. And I really do hope that we get to see more of the examinees in the future.
@@MajorMalfunction, as manga reader, i can say you couldn't be more wrong here. most of them will show up again. at least it includes Serie, Sense, Genau, Falsh, Lernen, Denken, Metode, Edel, Ubel and Land so far. all of them are already shown in manga again. they may also come across Wirbel and his party in future, because they heading north anyway, but they didn't yet.
I think that's fair enough. It's probably not what anyone expected Frieren's first op to be. I think the ending song does a better job of personifying Frieren.
i think OP 1 fit not for first episodes, more like for entire season. the lyrics sure fit first episodes, but the tone is fit for what this show on its core is - a melanholic adventure.

@@jannegrey That's a really good point. I completely agree with that. Helps that the OP on its own is actually a really good song too.
You will forget it in 1 year.
I doubt it. I've watched a lot of anime and can still remember the really boring ones. Like After the Rain.
we will forget it in one year? well, bet your money for it if you want to get broke...
My only complaint is the "Catch a Birb Arc" was a bit too long and boring, with too many characters I don't care about and will probably never see again. Still give it 10/10. If it weren't for that, I'd give it 11.
You definitely will see a lot of them again and you will grow to care about them (even those who did not pass the exam)
@@Faun471 I hope I'll live long enough to see the day.
@@MajorMalfunction, as manga reader, i can say you couldn't be more wrong here. most of them will show up again. at least it includes Serie, Sense, Genau, Falsh, Lernen, Denken, Metode, Edel, Ubel and Land so far. all of them are already shown in manga again. they may also come across Wirbel and his party in future, because they heading north anyway, but they didn't yet.
i feel like the first op is fitting lyrically but it doesn't fit it tonally for what is going on in the beginning of the story.
Frieren, is to me something that is great 8.6?
It's a 10/10 for me
ok, 8.6, then tell what it doesn't have to be 10/10. your rank must be based on something.
I do want to say that I feel bad for poor Vinland Saga. So good but not able to break out of it's niche.
That's another masterpiece too. Everyone who watches it loves it but it can be hard to pin it down.
when you come in some tall building and see ppl living there, did you ever think ppl on lowers floors are bad just because someone live above them? same here, its not bad just because there is something better.
Sorry dude, that's not how you pronounce "elf". Your pronunciation sounds more like "owl".
It's my dodgy accent unfortunately
@@liamnidas make accent less dodgy
