  • hey thanks for watching the video! i have been loving Frieren so much and was inspired to make this video after watching Stark's character arc in the first half of the show. this is definitely different from the type of video that i want to make usually, but i was very passionate about Stark's growth and how it was portrayed, and thought that the video deserved to have a tone like this.
    edit: i know i said that this vid is different from what i want to usually make, but looking back on this, i enjoyed the process and the feelings of making this video more than the ones i had made before this, so i'm going to work on this style and keeping trying to improve from vid to vid. thank you

    Frieren love to make us see the little things that affects our perceptions. Sometimes they're a positive like a thank you or a praise. Sometimes they're a negative like a bad word or rumors. I initially thought Stark was abandoned by his whole family but as it turned out his brother was his beacon of strength in his progress to get stronger. Stark put up a neutral face but deep down he was still so affected those words that he even believed he was a coward who ran away from the village when a demon attacked.
    The same goes for Denken. People whispered rumors about his ruthless rise to power as a military mage for nobility. Instead, he turned out to be the kind ruthless mage in the Northern lands. He kept telling Reichter to not kill Frieren's team mates and later sought out to give a pep talk when he failed the second test.

      true! i also really love the fact that denken's whole motivation to become a first class mage is to visit his late wife's grave, its really sweet

    An important detail: Stark didn't decide to run away. Stolz told him to run away and save himself because he knew the village was lost and Stark would die. So Stark blaming himself is misplaced (and I do wonder if it's the same of Eisen)

      I know, I address this at 18:59. I didn't mention this at the start since from Stark's view, he does believe that he is a coward up until the dinner they have for his birthday and that flashback is shown for the first time. It was more of a narrative thing for the video :^)

    Excellent, excellent review of Frieren, and the character of Stark. I also was highly triggered by Stark. When your own father tells you that you are a failure, then that is how you see yourself. This kind of negativity is crippling for a young person. Too many parents, teachers, and others in authority, tell young people, "You cannot do that." That kind of thing is the killer. Young people need encouragement and constant encouragement. They need to hear that if they try, if they work hard, then they can succeed. And most tries fail. But you pick yourself up and continue just like Stark did in his fight with Linie.

    • @fancyman3206
      @fancyman3206  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Thanks dude! And to add on, I love that during the birthday dinner scene, Stark realizes that even though his father was disappointed in him, there have been several other people that he's met on his travels that thought highly of him. And even back when he was a kid, his brother was there to encourage him. It's a very touching story to me.

      Or, you go into despair, rage and sorrow. create a inferior complex or lose your ability to care about outcomes, because of that.
      What if, someone is triying all the time and only fail all the time? While it feels, that everyone else can manage the same task, like a walk with no problems. Where his work isnt enough or doesnt matter at the end? And all the person is hearing is laughter about his failure, complainments, that he failed or here, that he should simply try more, when there is nothing left to improve, that there is no better way to do that. Or, is simply not able to do that.
      Its sometimes simply the true, that you have to stop things and dont try it anymore, because, you are simply not good enough. If you only expect failures, can you at last prevent saddnes, because the outcome is exactly, what you predicted. And the smallest better outcome can feel better.

      @@hasseo195 When I was very young, I read a book called "What Color is your Parachute?" and I also had mentors who expressed the that same theme. Their basic response was "no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, and 90 more no's and then at the end of the text string, there is a "yes". They told me that this is a common experience, and my history confirmed that. You can replace the no's with a hundred "Failure, failure, failure, failure,..........and then success". Played many years of American Football and most of my coaches said the same thing. When you get knocked down, get back up, and counter attack. It is what Eisen is telling Stark, if you stay down when you can get back up, when you accept failure, then you have failed. So long as you are breathing, you still have a chance.

      @@hasseo195 I answered your comment but someone deleted it, perhaps because they thought it too glib, and I understand that. But I did not want to leave your comment unanswered. If you are in school then you have options to talk with a teacher or one of the many fine counselors that schools maintain. If you are no longer in school, then there is more difficulty in access to the type of relationship which might help. One cannot burden friends or even family with certain life concerns and in any case, a youtube comment is certainly inappropriate. There are many excellent counsellors available even if you are out of school.

      @@folcwinep.pywackett8517 The problem is, when even the teachers are not truly able to help you.
      I was allways bad in english. They tried to help me with single classes, extra help and even a trick for the school ending. But it doesnt helped much (they needed to close both eyes to let me pass the final english exam).
      In the school did i never noticed much difference, if i activly learned or not. The grades was allways the same niveau. In one year did i even tried it with extra work for a test, what happens in a very bad note/grade. After that switched something in me and i created the opinion, that it doesnt matter, if you try and work hard or not. Do nothing, think allways that you will fail and you can not be hurt anymore. Because the result is ending up, like you thinked. And every little better result, make you feel better (in the end did i pass every important exam in my life only, because of good will of the people or with luck -what isnt even much for me-).
      And than are all the little failures, that can building up over time. Esspecial, when you life with others, who are doing the same thing as you. But have it much easier or have more success as you. Even, when its only meaningless things, like challenges in games (in one game did i failed practicly every challenge, that game had in the current Event, meanwhile is a other one successfull in nearly all of them, and you even can see on youtube, how easy others manage that, i as a example, are trying as much as possible, to never play pvp or hard modes of games -or even harder modes-, because im failing in most of the time, in pvp doesnt it even need 5 minutes, until im going into rage or cry mode).
      The result i mentioned, can come, when to many failures are building up and are breaking, with a big failure.

    Beginning of probably a long rant for anyone who cares:
    I also felt really inspired by the Stark/Eisen arc. The truth is I’m like Stark. As someone who has always found it really hard to believe I have any worth at all, I found it always harder to do things that I’m scared of. And I do a music performance major. That shit paralyses me and I always fail really badly and get in my head too much even though I could play well on my own. Watching Eisen and stark tremble before they start a battle, reminds me of the same tremble I always have before I begin a performance. And by showing how they do it bravely anyway, even though they’re trembling, shows me that you’re able to conquer something, even if youre scared of that exact thing you’re about to do. Do it scared, do it even if you’re super scared of it. It’s really inspired me to face something dead on, even if I’m trembling really badly.

      definitely, i loved the scene of stark trembling before the dragon fight, and the statement "Fear is what brought me this far" is so powerful and inspiring. honestly wished i talked about it way more in the vid lol

    I feel like you missed two very important points: Stark looked up to his brother, who was the golden child of the clan, and that the reason the hamburg steak realization was important was that his brother made it for him on his birthday in the same way. Despite his village having no confidence in him, his hero, the hero of the village, acknowledged him.

    I'm a person who keeps doubting myself, i see rewards as like just a lie or even compliment, it felt like something i keep hearing that isn't for me, but then now days after i actually realised about myself i'm slowly making good changes, it felt nice once i feel that i can see the other person inside of me.

    It's interesting that everyone else from his village uses longswords.
    As a kid he trains the longsword.
    In the north (pretending to be Orden's son) he again trains the longsword. Warrior village descendants, of course they are swordsmen. He's still not good with it.
    He's a hardworking but talentless swordsman, but is an exceptional natural talent with the great axe.
    Hes a fish judged by his ability to climb trees.

    Stark is best boy! Qnd this analysis is a great reminder of how details matter a lot in Frieren. One of my favorite moments was wheh in a scene that felt like a throwaway line, Fern asked what was the point of learning mundane spells like making grapes sour, and it ends up coming up later when in a flashback, Eisen mentions he loves sour grapes, and not long after that, Frieren gets Eisen sour grapes when she goes to visit him

      I completely agree, Frieren is so great at having little scenes like that mean so much. It’s a very heartwarming thing to see. (One that’s up there for me is Fern waiting with Frieren when she examines treasure they just found just because she likes seeing Frieren happy) Also ty!

    as manga reader my theory here spoilers:
    We see that demon who destroy Stark villige is non other Rivale Bloody God of War, in the end The Monument of the Goddess we see that Hero Himmel has memories of Frierien time travel so we could determine Eisen also has. So here is my theory part of reason Eisen took Stark as his student is because he felt responsible for not killing Rivale back then.

      I don't think eisen could hv killed rivale back then.... Like frieren confirmed how there were much more powerful shoguns in the demon king's army than eisen and as we know rivale is the strongest fighter in the demon world ....and we also see how rivale was kinda playing with eisen....

    "Why bother trying, if im only going to fail? What does it matter?"
    Good queston.
    Why should i try something, when i know, that im only will be failing. Or, where i try for hours something and am failing the whole time?
    Its logical to stop than, or not even to try it. At last, will it prevent you from losing time and prevent you sorrow of the failures aor going into a rage mode and hurt yourself or other things than.

      @fancyman3206  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I can somewhat see your point, but I think that if you are truly passionate about something, then you should still keep trying. It might be helpful to breakdown what the goal you’re trying to achieve into smaller goals. Maybe you can’t succeed today but doing anything, even the smallest inch of progress is worth it in my opinion. I hope my advice helps and I wish you good luck 👍

    Stark is my favorite character. by far I believe he has the potential to be just as much a hero as Himmel--if not more so. The thing I love about Stark is that he has flaws and he tries to over come them. Thus, making him more human. Where as Himmel is apparently portrayed as the perfect person; no one is perfect. I love the fact that everywhere Stark goes he is willing to help out others, but does so with humility. This is the opposite of Himmel who has to advertise to everyone about his accomplishments. Don't get me wrong; I don't hate Himmel--his vanity is a character trait that just rubs me the wrong way. (I also feel it is kind of strange for a melee warrior to use the type of sword he does with no off hand at all. It would have been more appropriate to me if he had a shield and acted more as as a tank type role in the party. *I realize am just nit-picking about this though.*)

    • @fancyman3206
      @fancyman3206  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      While I also love Stark more than Himmel, I think Himmel is still great in his own way. Compared to Stark, Himmel seems like the perfect hero but this is because of two reasons. 1. He purposefully tries to portray himself as perfect to try and inspire others. He is constantly shown to be helping out anyone whether their problem is big or small, and is trying to be sort of figure that can give people hope. 2. He is shown to have flaws, but they're hidden from the public. The Village of the Sword part shows this, how he wasn't even able to draw the sword, but he didn't let that stop him from trying to defeat the Demon King. (Side note: I also love the similarity between Stark and Himmel, how every town they visit, every villager seems to look up to and grow fond of them.) Also no hate, I know you said you didn't hate Himmel, just sharing my thoughts, and perhaps the manga expands more on Himmel.
