So, I returned the Pelikan M600 fountain pen from my last video. The nib was just way too thick for me. I ordered a Sailor Pro Gear Realo with a fine nib and it's perfect!

I bought sailor 1911 realo maroon colour with gold trim using extra fine nib. 1911 is slightly longer than pro gear. Realo is the best sailor model because this is the only piston filler model in the range. Lovely pen you never regret. On the other hand I bought pilot. Custom 823 fine nib fantastic pen n it is a must have for fountain user. I am using these 2 pens for Chinese characters writing similar to Japanese characters enjoy!
The writing Desk is a superb company. They give a great service and look after their customers one step beyond. Lovely pen, I have the Imperial Black (Same nib but for the plating) and it writes so beautifully I just don't want to put it down. Yes, I like the understated mat and black trim.

I love Sailor pens. And especially their exceptionally elegant and excellent performing nibs. I’ve always loved broad nibs most - and more so on the quality Japanese pens I own, even by Pilot and Platinum. I have the Sailor Pro Gear am Pro Gear II. Both are in black, regular size; silver/rhodium trim, one with an M, the other with a B nib. I love them dearly and use either of them as one of as my ‘every day carry’ pens. The 21k nibs are to die for.
This Realo is atop my wish-list at the moment. I particularly love that it’s a piston filler, for a change. Sailor and the other Japanese makers really ought to start making more piston filling pens , and specially the pricier models. I badly want a Sailor ‘King of Pen’. But before that the Realo is the one I want first. Wonder what it costs, though.
Lynsey Thomas Art ...Yea, you’re right. I enjoy immensely writing with broad nibs on quality paper regularly. About half of my pens in my beloved collection have broad nibs. I’m also very fond of stubs. I have very few ‘F’ nibbed pens, as I don’t particularly enjoy them a lot. But they have their place and I use my fine nib pens every now and then, too.
The Realo is pretty special; the piston filler, the very functional ink window, the size, styling, and of course that Sailor specialty i .e. the sublime 21k nib, everything about it is begging for the pen to be bought and then used every day. Your wonderful review clinched it for me. I’m ordering it next weekend. 🙂
And oh, I only have the Montblanc 146. At least that is a very fine piston filler with a respectable ink capacity.

Lynsey Thomas Art ...Oh, thanks to you, Lynsey for giving me a timely bump with your excellent review of the Realo. I’ll try and get the one with a clear barrel/body with a red accented cap and trim. Wonderful pens like these and the penchant for constantly buying them has corrupted my soul. But surely there are far worse vices than this, don’t you think? 😀
The Writing Desk is great. Just bought a Pelikan there, they are so helpful and generous!

Not scratchy, just some feedback which Sailor is known for. You can’t go wrong with The Writing Desk. I just received my Sailor “White Russian” (Pro Gear Slim.. Sapporo) from Anna and Martin. Very pleased with it and their service. They tune every nib before it leaves the shop so no surprises. Good choice of pen and nib. Might be my next purchase as well !
I'm a big Sailor fan now after this pen. This has to be my most favourite pen to use & it glides so lovely over paper. I'd get another pen from The Writing Desk again, they were so helpful.

@@LynseyThomasArt After using it for a week, I can definitely say it's my now favourite pen of all time.
The only (non-major) issue I had with my pro gear slim was that it was slightly too slim as I'm used to thicker pencils and pens since I write with a death grip.
However, the sailor pro gear realo is the perfect size and width, with a bonus of being the same weight as my pro gear slim to boot!
I have basically found and obtained my grail pen and definitely won't be needing another one any time soon lol. Well, maybe that'll change if I can get my grubby paws on some limited edition realos since I saw a pretty blue and white variation, but that's for far off in the future.
@@IshikaShanai when it comes to more pens, never say never 😆 I'm glad you love your new Sailor. I think it's the best pen I've ever used, it glides so smoothly over the paper and is really comfortable to hold. I've had my eye on the yellow and black pro gear for a while, I just love that colour combination.

Hello! Do you still have the pen after all of these years? I ordered a Realo and wanted to know your thoughts on it after years of ownership. Is the ink mechanism still good when you twist it? Has the nib changed?

@@LynseyThomasArt Thanks for the encouragement. It's a pricey pen, and if it breaks, it breaks. Nothing lasts forever, but I hope the REalo lasts me awhile, and it'll be a fun write up until that point!
Lovely looking pen ☺️. The Writing Desk are very good and I've always had excellent customer service. We are all different as to which nib we like. Personally, I prefer stub or broad nibs to write with, but have plenty of pens with f and ef nibs as well because they are great for drawing with.
