    I love different nibs so I had to try the KOPs. I got one for a little over $600 from Endlesspens during a sale. Is it worth $600? No, so I would never buy another. Is the nib cool? YES, very. I like the pro gear regular size pens. I do feel at the end of the day they are over priced pens. If I had the money to buy a KOP again, I would buy a Pelikan or Montblanc. These are much more substantial pens than colored fun plastic pens with great nibs.

    Thanks for the facts and opinions. I have a Pro Gear and it is clearly my best pen. However - could you loan me $816?

    I have several pro gears, a couple pro gear slims, and a 1911 KOP. I personally don't like how springy the KOP is. The KOP also is limited to medium and broad nibs. The standard pro gear is my favorite pen model in general because of how it writes and available colors. Even with larger hands, I still enjoy the slim size, but only if I love the color design.

    You really need to try a Pilot Custom Urushi! I find the pen itself just a touch too big but the nib is so good I’m thinking of having a custom acrylic or ebonite barrel made (and cap too obviously). The Urushi adds quite a bit of weight and the pen is also long, so a slightly shorter and lighter barrel should make it almost perfect. I’d love the section to be a touch slimmer too but that’s a little too hard to do anything about.
    As for sailor, I’m yet to try one but I’m still trying to talk myself out of a KOP ebonite. I can’t afford it, but nor could I really afford the other nice pens I have. Still, I figure if I sell most of the cheaper pens that get very little use I’m better off with a tiny collection of pens that I get the most joy from writing with and that all get regular use.

    i only have pro gear slim in Medium nib. but mine seems to have wider line width compared to yours. Almost a true european medium. I also noticed that the more you write with Sailor nib (at least in my case) the better it writes. Don't know just mine or other feels the same too.

    • @Iliares
      @Iliares ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have had the same experience with my 21K medium nib, it’s terribly thick for a Japanese medium. My 21K MF is much finer and closer to a Sailor 18K fine (Cross Peerless). Pilot has the same discrepancy between their fines and mediums 😅. I believe the 21K MF in the video is much thicker due to all the micromesh involved with tuning/repairing the nib.

    • @agnesrambling
      @agnesrambling ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Iliares What I noticed from my experience pilot steel nib have its own fine and medium (true japanese nib size), while their gold nib seems to be closer to a european sizing😏. I did a comparison of medium steel nib and medium gold nib on my channel and there is a bit of difference in the line width.

    This is comparing apples, aardvarks, and anvils.
    I've tested all three and they are radically different pens. I would strongly recommend anyone considering a Sailor to try all three at a retailer or show.
    Slim; small, 14k stiff nib. Very collectable.
    ProGear lg; 18k nib they have a very pleasant bounce. This is a good size for almost anyone.
    KOP: I like large pens but this isn't my favorite, although the nibs are spectacular.

      @PlanYourOneLife ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing! I probably will never try the KOP simply because I don’t like the feel of writing with huge pens. I favor pocket and slim pens.

  • @sajjadhusain4146

    Oh please…this quite a no contest. Of course, the Sailor Pro Gear is a superb pen. I have six of them. And love them mightily. I only have one PG Slim. It’s very good alright, but just a bit too small and slim for me. I still use it unposted though, because I detest posting caps on pens. I will sell the Slim very soon.
    And I know that I strongly prefer Sailor’s 21k nibs to the 14k on the Slim. There is a distinct, if not big difference in the feel and writing experience between the two different gold nibs. I just always like the 21k nibs more.
    The KoP is easily the champion here. The size, feel in hand, and a large, uniquely stellar nib make it quite the King of Pens.

  • @awaken77
    @awaken77 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    I got my first Pro gear standard (I had PG slim before), and I think it's more comfortable. The pen is slightly thicker and grip is better, also 21K nib is slightly softer. It's not soft nib, bit it has more feel than nib in "slim" version. Makes me wish to try a KOP, where this nib softness is even more emphasized

    How does the KOP compare to Pelikan M1000 in terms of the writing experience? The bounce, the feedback etc.😮

    You may have covered this before in the individual reviews, but I'd love to see something like this comparing specifically the Pro Gear (regular) and the Pilot Custom 912. Very similar in price, size, style, and features, would be interesting to hear your thoughts on how they compete.

    • @Xyrium
      @Xyrium 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The Pilot 912 in SF is my favorite pen once tuned. Out of the box, the nib was too slippery/wet. However, the feel of that pen body is perfection for my medium hands. My other pens are Sailor Pro Gear in F, Sailor 1911L in F, a Pilot Falcon resin in SEF, and a Platinum 3776 Rhodium in F. If Pilot ever makes the 912 with an SEF nib., I shall purchase all of them! ;)

    Thanks for this video. 😊 I’m deciding on a 2nd gold nib pen to ask for as a birthday present and learning from you that the nib material between the slim and regular pro gear makes little difference in the writing comfort was very helpful. I’ve started looking at my everyday pen sizes and going with that criterion instead. My regular everyday pens are the Lamy Safari and TWSBI Eco/T so I’m thinking the standard Pro Gear is the choice for me. Any feedback is welcome!

    I have the standard Pro Gear and a 1911L, the 1911L is full on scratchy (catches paper and probably needs to be tuned) compared to the Pro Gear (perfect pencil like experience), both being 21k. It's a total luck of the draw on machine made pens.

    A year later, and suddenly the KoP (1911) is on Amazon at around half price, so I got one. Fabulous pen, orders of magnitude better than the already superb Pro Gear, both smoother and bouncier. Almost worth it, at half price.

    I just received my first Pro Gear Slim in the mail yesterday! I totally agree with you on the size: the PGS is going to be too small for many folks. Meanwhile, it fits my hand perfectly, so if someone has smaller hands and/or prefers smaller pens, it will be nice. I've found that it is not a pen that I can write with for a long time, however, which was a bit disappointing. I know it is not a workhorse like a Safari or Eco, but I hoped to be able to write with it for longer periods of time as I do with pens in a similar price range, like the VP Decimo. However, it is a gorgeous pen! I was a bit stunned by how expensive the King of Pens was, though. I was not expecting that much of a jump in price. 😵‍💫
