This involved doing several complicated spells simultaneously including a reverse entropy spell. Allice's resurrection was several pages in the book but they totally skipped it in the TV show which was very disappointing. Jullia was the most powerful magician in the book she cast a few godlike spells and should have been a bigger part of the show at the end of the book she became a god. There was one or two monsters they couldn't kill they could only weaken/imprision and that kind of spell actually takes more energy than a destructive spell.
While I love The Magicians for character arcs, their battle system was underdeveloped. Understandably they had a very limited budget for VFX so blunt force and slash spells was easier to portray.
When they were trying to play that school welters game Quentin accidentally created a mini black hole that started sucking things up. The beast getting spagettified/sucked into a black hole would have been cooler and probably more effective than a big fireball.
You have a small chance to become a god or goddess in the Magicians. Or learn about the universe in the next 1000 years as a Librarian. Harry Potter, it's all conservative and no using magic in most places on Earth. Otherwise, you get arrested by the magic police.
Beyond time lines, more stilled magicians and gods can bypass the signing, or adapt it. Remember Julia’s discipline is Knowledge like Dean Fogg’s. They have an almost psychic connection to magick and can understand and change spells, they’re the creators and adopters of spells, so, it makes sense that the way she casts will be more efficient, using much less energy but still able to get powerful results.
And she was much stronger than Alice so she didn’t have to do as much of the work when Alice does it it looks like she hoes foward a bit then goes back as tho she’s checking her work over and over again ( maybe that’s why it took so long to charge up) whilst Julia just goes through the whole thing in one motion never going back That’s just my theory
Julia was a Goddess who required minimal effort to get the Rhinemann going, but even at that she managed to flop it once. Alice as a human with God power did the spell quite impressively albeit spending more time. It just goes to show how good of a Magician & spellcaster Alice is.

Zelda told Alice in The Library that she has the making of a master meaning she can go further anyone she knows: than her father, Dean Fogg & perhaps the strongest Magician on Earth at the moment: Mayakovsky. Alice was born to be a Master Magician. Zelda recognizes her natural talent. She is the smartest of the entire group and in fact the strongest. Her spellcasting is superior so is her understanding of various languages needed for said casting. It was never stated Julia was smarter in the books. She was apart of Free Trader Beowulf because she was depressed and intelligent. Those were the only requirements to join. Had Alice joined she’d school everyone and their grandmother. The rest of the members will take notes from her. Julia Wicker is my third favorite character. But in no way does she compare to Alice Quinn as a Magician. Alice is better in every single aspect- she is levels ahead of the group, all of them. Since coming back as a Niffin her knowledge multiplied by 10. She knows things others don’t especially not Julia, ever. And if you really want to compare looks, Alice (Olivia w/e) is much more gorgeous, prettier eyes, more developed and her figure is ridiculous. Straight facts love.
