Giving a 2-3 year old a tablet/iPad is insane. Let them go outside and throw a rock or swing a stick like a sword or something. If you give a toddler a device, theyre only gonna rely on that device to entertain them. They literally wont have a childhood if theyre stuck looking at a screen all day.

That's what I thought! Do you know how many times the real world says "no"? You basically have to apply to dozens of jobs before you get your first "yes". That kid will hear "no" after applying to the job he wants and then he'll just give up and live in his parents' basement. Then the parents will be confused why their kid has no motivation or aspirations.

Like they’re following around their parents while totally engrossed in the screen and not paying attention to anything else. I grew up on the cusp of all this tech becoming popular, so I had things like that but I was never allowed to bring it around in public because a) I might lose it and b) not paying attention to your surroundings is very dangerous as a kid. It won’t save the parents from a rebellious stage. When the parents inevitably decide to set boundaries when their child grows up, the rebellious stage is going to be even worse than normal because they’re going to be so used to getting whatever they want that they WONT ever listen anyway because in their head they can always get away with it. Trust me this is how my little cousin was raised and his mom can no longer try and set boundaries because he won’t listen anyway

    • @darknx
      @darknx ปีที่แล้ว

The rebellious stage of adolescence is not solely dependent on how a child is raised. While I may not be entirely correct, evolutionary psychology suggests that teenagers, in general, exhibit similar behaviour in terms of not listening to their parents. Additionally, if a teenager fails to become independent and think for themselves, it can pose a more significant problem. All teenagers should have the ability to think and make decisions of themselves.

Just beware of the "contact napping" because when my little cousin was a baby it was very difficult to put her to sleep so we always had to lull her in our hands for a long time but didn't dare leave her in her crib afterwards as to not wake her up...and then she got way too used to it so whoever was putting her to sleep had to literally hold her in their hands for hours upon hours, not just for the afternoon nap but also during the night as well. So be really mindful with this, it was beyond exhausting to be stuck with a baby in your arms for many hours every single day and being unable to do anything else, basically just wasting time if I have to be honest. My point is, it shouldn't turn into a bad and unhealthy habit.

@@BlackLivesMatter1414 we'd have done it if it worked that way. I'm pretty sure me and my cousin's parents know better what she's like. So if I say it was impossible in her case, then it REALLY was impossible. Her baby years were very difficult on all of us, she was very problematic, not by her choice.
Also in response to what you replied to Wolfiechrm, it is not as unlikely as you may think. We're so much bigger and heavier than them, we could easily push them, hit them, kick them, even potentially roll over on top of them and suffocate them with our weight...it could happen and I'm pretty sure it has happened, even if on rare occasions. I don't have any exact numbers at hand, of course. Some people (like my dad for example) are very heavy sleepers and I assure you they will not feel anything of what they're doing whilst asleep. Hearing another normal person talk about this stuff is very motivating I've been trying to make bento boxes recently and I think I'll go make one after this video! Also I totally agree on the homeschool thing also you can sign up for a proper online school too! where kids do lessons just online and at home personally for me it's been very beneficial and I've been getting great grades because I can study and do work at my own pace (obviously still with due dates) it also helps kids learn how to manage their time responsibly

Idk if this helps, but Yami Mart online is great for Japanese and Asian food stuff. They sell instant miso soup for cheap in packets and you just add hot water. Miso is fermented soybean, fermented things like kimchi or miso are really good for your gut. They have a lot of things for bento boxes because of the nature of their Asian website.
Add more color, like red cabbage or carrots or even a yellow bell pepper on top of like a salad or tacos or something easy. You’d be amazed at how much more cheerful you feel when you eat more color, more fresh onions and more natural sugar (apples, kiwi, etc.) instead of refined granulated sugar.
It doesn’t cure you, but it does help a lot. Keep going, food can be legit therapy and I don’t know you but I’m rooting for you ❤️

The toddler is NOT made aware of this screen time is just something she gets as a reward. She is also taught empathy well. She cried because I had a cold such a sweetie. My parents kinda treated me like this growing up, I was a single child and had a stay at home dad and both would always let me do whatever I wanted and got me whatever I wanted otherwise I would cry and wine about it until I did. I got seriously addicted to gaming and spending money on games and when they tried to take me out to do sports when I was no more than 9, I simply said “no I don’t want to” and they were ok with it. But at 13 I was almost 200lbs and my mom made my favorite dish everyday, literally just fried rice no veggies, despite the fact I was beyond obese and struggling with an addiction that severely affected my grades as I was a barely pass the class student with no friends in my private school because of my horrible social skills I never developed because I was so isolated from the world. When I came to my senses and started working out more and eating more healthy, I asked my parents why they never made me do anything at all my entire life and they always got offended when I’d ask. I hope this family doesn’t end up like mine, no kid deserves the problems I still struggle with and the parents need to wake tf up.

It's terrible to never say "no" to your kid. Those kids eventually grow up, entered the real world, and then they repeatedly hear "no" for the first time. Two things can come from this, either they resent the world, become angry at whoever says no to them. Or they give up. The first job they apply to says no, so then they just give up and live in their parents basement.

Bruh, put sliced carrots in a pan with olive oil white onion, salt and pepper (sometimes I add a vinegar) and cook them down. It takes a long time, but OH MY GOD slow simmered tender carrots are so sweet and delicious, and onions are amazing for you. I tell people to make fresh pico de gallo or guacamole if they want to eat more garlic and onion, it’s so delicious and fresh jalapeños/peppers are really good for you. I know guacamole isn’t a meal but sometimes I do make a big bowl and add stuff on the side like flautas made with potatoes as a meal. Also don’t sleep on using blue agave nectar or honey in your pan sauces/marinades, instead of refined sugar. Also, make Argentine chimmichurri (my grandma used carrot, parsley, red wine vinegar, olive oil) and don’t overblend but it’s so yummy on bread or your meats and is a easy way to eat fresh herbs and veggies if you add different stuff to it. Tomatoes and parsley is traditional, but my grandma used carrots for sweetness. Sorry I’m ranting, just trying to give you some stuff to search up and try. Wish ya luck on your health journey! my siblings don’t have restricted time limits for their devices but we do of course make sure we know what they are doing and watching online (4 and 6) and don’t have many limits for what they are allowed to eat, but what really helps is that we encourage them to eat healthier options, and encourage them to play off screen and learn new things, even though one of them is autistic and struggles a bit more, both of them are actually more advanced in their classes for the kids their age
i grew up with many restrictions and that really affected how i acted towards many things
it’s important to allow your child to make decisions on their own and if they do have a harder time making good choices for their health (like only eating candy) then it’s okay to step in, that’s what parents jobs are
for example we will make sure they always brush their teeth, but we do it in a fun way for them, not making it feel like a boring chore but making sure they understand why it’s important
my sister thinks it’s a really good “prank” when she tells us she will brush her teeth right after her show but she actually gets up to surprise us by brushing her teeth right away and she loves when we tell her how good her teeth look after
i find allowing the kids to have a balance of freedom and healthy encouragement has really helped them to learn more and to expand what they are capable of with still making sure that you are able to still parent them correctly and be able to make sure they know right from wrong
some kids and families function a lot better with different types of parenting obviously, but this is something that works very well for my household

Long time viewer, rare commenter here. This is a really interesting topic and I felt compelled to comment my own views and experiences.
We share almost identical views on parenting. I’m going to be 30 next month and I’m so glad I grew up without regular internet access or the existence of smartphones. I hope to have children one day and keeping them away from smart devices will be a priority I think.
During my childhood, both of my parents worked shifts (police officer and factory worker) so my grandparents and great uncle would look after me a lot of the time. Those three were wonderful influences and I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am without them. My cousin who didn’t grow up with them is very spoiled and expects a lot from her mother. She’s 23 now and I cringe when I hear how much she expects from her.
On the topic of food, I can’t remember hating veggies as a kid but I also had access to sweets almost when I wanted them. However, having that option made sweets not seem as special so as an adult now I don’t eat any sweeties besides biscuits or maybe the occasional cake from Greggs. TMI; I had an eating disorder several years ago and lost a lot of weight (due to anxiety not body image) but I’ve come out the other side and treat myself with the occasional greasy food.
Finally, on birthdays, my dad can’t even remember my mum’s birthday! I always remind him in the weeks leading up to it and even buy him a card for her. I also remind him when mine is coming up but I think my mum handles that haha he needs a calendar. Our family also doesn’t really celebrate birthdays besides cards and sometimes gifts. My last birthday my friends asked what I wanted to do so we went out for a meal, played some pool at the pub then came back and played video games haha

The nutella story is me with Soda.
My parents let me have soda every single day without fail. I drank so much god damn mountain dew I'm probably infertile. So when I was around 22 I finally decided "enoughs enough" and I started drinking Iced Tea instead at the time, Significantly less horrible for you btw, even if still bad. Even tho I havent went on a true 0 sugar diet, if I drink soda nowadays, ESPECIALLY mountain dew, it makes me feel like I wanna puke, its vile, horrible and disgusting tasting. I can still drink vanilla coke, but my body reacts with hiccupping when I drink soda now. So I only have a vanilla coke once every.... few months if that? lmao.
But on the flipside our "adaptation" I was in a broke period and I ate flaming hot mac and cheese for like 6 months straight with those little grocery store cordon bleu things. Was like $3.89 for my dinner for the day. I did that for SIX MONTHS STRAIGHT without fail, or hating it. And again if I eat boxed mac and cheese now? repulsive, no idea why I even liked it to begin with.

Rule in my house is that once a kid can properly use a fork and spoon, they are only given what's made. They dont have to eat it, but they won't get anything else. Whatever you didn't eat would be your snack.
Mom was really great about cooking what we liked (and was healtht) and portioning everything correctly. That rule existed to make sure we didn't become picky and unhealthy. As a kid I really enjoyed greenbeans, broccoli, corn, spinach, ect but only because when I was younger and 'learning to eat' my parents didn't cave. It also probably helps they kept me FAR FAR away from sweets of any kind and I wasn't allowed to dictate when and if I drank soda until I was a teenager.
As an adult my cravings happen, but 99% of the time I find fast food and sugary things a bit... much. I struggle to finish a can of soda before it goes warm.

Great video Megasus, I agree with almost everything except the homeschool topic. You can't expect your child to know how to interact with someone else if you don't let them do that with their classmates and other people of the same age. It's also difficult to achieve the same level of social exposure being home all the time (even if you go out everyday with your parents or something). Yes, it's true that nowdays schools are somewhat of a joke, but at the same time it helps gaining knowledge about something you MUST avoid (in negative cases). Parents should know how to strike a balance between what THEY can teach you vs what school and the world in general can teach them (leaning more on the parent's teachings ofc). Also, going to school sets a routine: it doesn't seem like it at first, but the routine you shape by attending classes is the same that will help keeping up with work once we become adults (waking up early, taking public transport etc).

My county is well known for being awful for/towards students with special needs &/or learning disabilities. I'm talking physical, emotional and mental abuse.
I didn't believe it until I had to pull my son out of kindergarten (Autistic Lv2) bc his teacher was tormenting him, bullying him and pulled his left arm out of socket (this incident was actually what led to us finding out about the other stuff). The BoE did nothing except defended her saying it was her first year.
The schools are so bad the county has an amazing Homeschool group (no connection go the Public Schools). We meet Monday-Thursday and every fourth Fridays take a field trip. This is for all grades, PreK-12. It helps with socializing and we can help each other with lessons and ensure the children are actually being taught and not just slacking. We have some great volunteers from the college that come down and help the higher grades with free tutoring. We provide a snack, drink and then lunch for all the students.
I'm all for children being socialized and I think school is a great place for it but unfortunately, not all schools are good. When this issue arises I wish other places had homeschool groups like the one we have here parents and students could turn to.

You can have sugar, but in moderation. If you can't control what you put in your mouth then yes, you need to stay away and seek immediate help.

my mom saw the sugar and fats in the store bought PB and now she just makes it at home, i dont even remember the last time we bought peanut butter lmao, she makes them by putting peanuts into a grinder until it turns liquidy and adds jaggery instead of regular sugar or sweetners and then adds some crushes peanuts cause she prefers chunky PB, and now she bought a wet stone grinder cause she heard it grinds and endures better

3:08 I mean, kid me would've chose the ice cream over the brocolli but he would've also loved to have the broccoli. It's the same nowadays.

Even tho you said cosleeping is fine, it really isn't. There are lots of cases where babies and todlers are injured (sometimes with life long effects) or they even die, because the parent roll on the baby while they are asleep, and either crushes them or suffocates them.
So if you love your child, NEVER CO-SLEEP

This is what happens when the pendulum swings wildly in the opposite direction. The parent had strict parents and they didn't want to do that to their child so they do the exact opposite. Now their child has no boundaries, control, or discipline. The child will grow up to being super picky, entitled, and just insufferable

Can confirm that this brand of parenting has many negative results for the child when they grow up.
I know someone for example who was raised like this and now has impulse control issues, intense anxiety and difficulty making decisions for themselves because of home life vs outside reality was overwhelmingly different to the point that they needed to ask literally all of their friends, family members and partner about which car they should get and could not relax nor pick a replacement car until someone told this person what to do with confidence for them, it made them feel isolated throughout their childhood and teen years from their peers, which lead to long term depression, it made this person impatient, often unintentionally rude because they were allowed to do what they want when they want outside of brief guidelines (like eat dinner with the family, etc).

15:00 I mean, that is probably not what *she* meant, but it's actually very important that a child's boundaries are respected. That doesn't mean that you should let them do just what they want to do. You also have to take care of the child so like changing the diapers, It's about health and hygiene. If the child is old enough, they will understand when you explain that to them. But if it's too young, it's still important to explain it but still do what you have to. That doesn't mean that you aren't validating them or their boundaries when you cross the line and say we have to do this now because we still have to take care of the child. This is also the case for keeping screen time and check. Because it isn't healthy. But if a kid is in the middle of a show and doesn't know if the villain will pay for his crime and if someone is getting rescued. It would also make you mad when you have to stop watching in the middle of your series. It's important to at least try to understand your child and why it doesn't follow your orders. A compromise is better than force. And even if you have to use force, you can still show them that you love them by helping them understand their emotions and stuff.
