So many Catholics do not even know the faith. They were raised Catholic but they were not catechized.

Very true. I attended CCD, Catholic grade school and graduated 1983 from junior seminary high school and through all that did not get Catechism. I got a big lump of disenchantment (putting it very mildly ) I fought it for a time, but By the grace of Jesus I am still a Catholic.

    • @jditsfights256
      @jditsfights256 5 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Yes. I grew up Catholic, I was baptized as an infant, went to CCD, but I was still very poorly catechized. I didn’t attend church every week. Every year it was a dice role if my family went to church on Christmas or Easter. However I always believed, I just never took it seriously. There have been many cases where God tried to pull me into a deeper relationship but I would read my Bible a little bit, then, unknowingly, deny Gods grace. About a year ago I complied with Gods grace all the way through. And very soon afterwards I was confronted with these Protestant objections to Catholicism, but again by the grace of God, He answered those objections. But poorly catechized Catholics are kind of an issue, not to us but to themselves. I hear of so many lukewarm, uncatechized Catholics to walk into a Protestant church, get presented strawmans of the Catholic Church and then 38 Bible verses quoted at them and then they get deceived, and leave the fullness of truth.

If you read "Pascendi Dominici gregis" by Pope St. Pius X
You will see why this reason to leave Catholicism is more common among modernists
For the Modernists, religious dogma or doctrine are not objective truths that we must assent to, but rather they are formed by the collective opinion of humans as time progresses

This is exactly how I feel. Initially I felt drawn to Catholicism but after learning more I now cant help but believe that the councils are man made and so are their decisions and judgements.
Even with the Catechism, for every controversial doctrine in the catechism, there are 20 different interpretations of what the catechism actually means and how it should be applied.
It's just like the writings in the Bible...what it means depends on who you ask. What is mortal sin? Who goes to hell? What is infallible and what is not? Do people who comiy suicide go to hell? LGBT? Is the Pope really a valid Pope? With all these questions in Catholicism it all depends on who is interpreting the catechism and Canon Law.
There are so many pitfalls where lay people can get it wrong...and depending on who you ask may put those lay people in danger of hell if they believe the wrong thing and act on it.
Ulrimately, I guess I'll just entrust myself to God's love, mercy, and goodness. Every Christian religion has its good, bad, and questionable. That applies to doctrines, beliefs, and practices of Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants.

I left the church because of its teaching on... so why did it take 40 years to leave then? I watched a video on "Mythvision" where a scientist, who was catholic, no longer believed. Listening to his reasons, you quickly realize that he had no knowledge of what the church actually teaches about God. If Craig has attended church as long as he has, its sad that he never spent time researching his faith. Craig would realize that being compassionate and forgiving, usually and always does at every level, bear with it, the hopes of repentance and change.

This is why, contrary to those who think that our duty is to retain every nominal Catholic at all costs, what we really need is to weed out the unbelievers by way of loyalty oaths (similar to our yearly rededication to our baptismal oaths, but much more specific as regards particularly pressing problems of our age, such as belief in the Real Presence, rejection of abortion, premarital/extramarital sex, etc.).
We must not be frightened of excommunicating those who do not believe and refuse to conform, both for the sake of the believing flock as well as the individual non-believer. We cannot make noises about how excommunication is a moral good for everyone involved and then refuse to employ it. But I think forcing people to declare publicly their true loyalties would be enough in most cases to bring them face to face with their responsibility to direct their life either one way or the other.

The problem already is that they are not ensuring the candidates for ordination are the moral exemplars they are supposed to be, as described in Sacred Scripture. If the Church is going to insist on forcing priests to take vows of celibacy and chastity, then the Church should defrock any priest who violates those vows even once, but they don't. Why I left: the thing that first started pushing me away was the hypocrisy. It was during the civil rights movement in the 60s and I was surrounded by racists. I had one nun teacher who was active in the civil rights movement and she was horribly criticized and shunned by the rest of the nuns, priests, teachers, parents. She eventually not only left her order but the church completely.
Following that: sexism. The straw that broke the camel’s back was when I went to a Mass con celebrated by 70 priests. I looked out at the congregation and it was mostly women, a large percentage of them nuns. I thought, what’s wrong with this picture? When I was a child I used to say Mass in the driveway. My sister and my girl friend were the “altar boys.” This was long before girls were allowed to do that. I had Latin Mass memorized. I was eight years old. In later years, I saw how ridiculous the Church’s discrimination against women was. Thanks but no thanks.
The Church’s ridiculous teaching against birth control. Ridiculous.
Over time, the realization that most of the beliefs are unsupportable. Virgin birth? Seriously? Let’s get real. People getting raised from the dead? No.
We don’t owe anyone a reason why we are leaving the Church. We’re not married to you. Whatever reasons we give won’’t satisfy you. All these nonsense arguments that we were never really devout, never really catechized, are not only false but they are insulting. I have read theologians and writers from St. Augustine to Teresa of Avila to Thomas Merton to the Berrigan brothers and more. I was heavily involved in church from a young age, sang in the youth choir at Mass, played music for Mass during high school, read about the Lives of the Saints, loved religion class.
In the end, it’s just a human institution, it has no direct line of communication to God, and I came to the realization that there is no evidence for God or an afterlife.
My atheist friends are kinder and more compassionate than most church folks. My nephew is a Catholic priest who is judgmental and mean spirited, condescending towards family members (not just me) that he thinks aren’t good enough. He’s the kind of person who would go to Washington, D.C., for the March for Life but not do one single thing for his cousin who had an untimely pregnancy and chose to keep the baby. He’s the kind of priest who will preach sermons about the Holy Family and forgiveness yet refuses to have anything to do with family members who have never done him any harm because his mother holds grudges for reasons that no one is even sure about.
You want to know why people leave the Church? Because after an absence of 10 years, going to confession and confessing to the priest that we struggle with hopelessness, the priest is more concerned about whether we’ve been attending Mass regularly. This is not surprising. The Church still isn’t fully dealing with the harm it has done with child abuse. The Inquisition, the Borgia Popes, the Church has been full of scandal and abuse of power.
There are good reasons why the Church is losing people in droves. You have a choice. You can listen to why people say they are leaving - really listen. Or you can be part of the problem and dismiss their reasons as not being good enough. We don’t need to justify ourselves to you.

To be honest, as someone young, and for someone who tries their best to defend the faith, I have discovered that most people who leave the church never really understood the faith to begin with. It's crazy because I just recently spoke to someone (who claimed to be a former catholic) who claims their former faith practices witchcraft. Multiple of times did i (hate to use the word prove) prove that what she thought catholics believe or are is wrong, hence meaning she never understood the faith to begin with. It is tempting to think (just as Trent states towards to start of the video), "dont let the door hit you when leaving". Or "good. we dont need weak Catholics like you anyways". It is hypocritical to boast that we are the largest church when 75 percent of us dont believe in the real presence. Or half of us dont even attend weekly mass.
I take this time to invite us all to humble ourselves and realize that we aren't as perfect as a church as we hope or think we are. Thats why i invite all of us to offer on the altar for the knowledge to be given to more catholics. To grow in our faith and understanding of the truth we have.
As someone who became catholic 2 years ago, it saddens me when I was told in RCIA that 75 percent of us will become lazy and give up. That is why I thank God everyday that I was the 25 percent who dug deeper. Someone who wanted to learn more and defend his love. His church. That is afterall why most of us are here watching this vid. So offer a mass for the 75 percent.

Imagine being so prideful and entitled that you say something like "I'm being denied the right to unite with Christ". This isn't your right. You're not entitled to this. The Creator of the universe humbles Himself constantly to even give you the chance of having the privilege of uniting with Him. None of us have any "right" to anything from God. Everything given to us is by grace and mercy. This "I have a right" nonsense is literally satanic, it's the pride of sin. You don't have the right to the sacraments or anything from God, you are given the privilege and are called to be eternally grateful and humbled by that. That statement is very telling, it's more of a confession than an indictment on the church.

Since the Mass is the greatest prayer of all !!! you get the Saint Andrews missile (and no other missile) but the St Andrews missile, and you say Mass every Sunday (you're not able to consecrate) but you can still say the prayers of the Mass !!! From only the Saint Andrew's missile. You can say the rosary, the Seven Sorrows of Mary, the Stations of the Cross, all at home. Have nothing to do with today's fake Catholic Church!!! NOTHING !!! Don't buy any books on the market after 1960 !!!!
What about confession and all that ? You confess your sins to God the Father, Son and Holy Ghost using the prayers in the St Andrews missile, in the confessional which is in the back of the book, or you say one of the seven penitential Psalms along with the act of contrition. That's your confession, at home where you are safe both in body and soul !! For baptism you do the same at home with the proper, Matter, Form and Intent !!!

    • @regnthegovernor

    • @enshala6401
      @enshala6401 ปีที่แล้ว

@RegntheGovernor well, you asked what the difference is between being Protestant and being Catholic (or Orthodox, presumably), and I answered the question from the point of view of a traditional (i.e. non-Protestant) Christian.
Traditional Christians (i.e., Catholic and Orthodox) live a Sacramental life. For example, we consider Marriage as Sacramental in accordance with Jesus' instructions. Jesus says: “Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, no human being must separate.” (Mt: 19:4-6). Protestants do not acknowledge marriage as a Sacrament.
As another example, Martin Luther removed the Real Presence (Body and Blood) from the Sacrament of Communion, in spite of Christ's instructions in John 6:
53 Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you.
54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day."
I could go on if you like... I spent 30 years as a Protestant, trying to live as devoutly as I could, but it is an incredibly shallow existence compared to living a Sacramental life. Nothing we do compares to the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Please don't turn them down because of fear, pride, propaganda, or anything else the Prince of Lies throws your way.

Do people not remember when they were children and they were much more selfish and had similar blanket attitudes to what they now have toward the Church a propos clerical abuse? It's like how a child's level of neuroticism is more predictive of long term happiness than the objective conditions they are in. You can always say these incidents, even with the structural problems, are only from certain priests, but if you're neurotic with an axe to grind from your godless religion, you will erroneously see that as a reason to hate the Church rather than desire to reform it. Now it is obvious hypocrisy because they will gladly ignore the fact that abuse is more common from teachers or that left wing attitudes actually can cause such abuse and even crime more generally

It's very hard. I came in close contact with a famous child abusing priest. He was silky, smooth and entitled. He came after my very young, male assistant and utterly traumatized him. It's one thing for a priest to fail their vows and confess their sin. It's a whole other thing when a priest co-established a club whose motto is "before eight or it's too late". The Church has yet to admit to the enormity of the debauchery within the Vatican much less set about removing it.

Jesus said the gates of hell would never prevail against his church. He built the church with a minimum of 12 apostles and could see until the end of time …. I’m going to believe Jesus.
Meanwhile tens of thousands of Israelites turned from God during the exodus thinking they had it better as slaves and disagreeing with Moses. History repeats itself with people losing faith because things didn’t go their way instead of His way.

If the mystical body is full of rot, it means all faithful Catholics must be willing to suffer more in order to make up for what was lacking in the sufferings of Christ for the sake of the church. As St. John Vianney wrote, "It is only by sacrificing and suffering, offered as penance, that you will be able, by the grace of God, to convert sinners."
We can either suffer now to diminish or avoid the coming chastisements or as in the days of Noah, we can embrace the evil agenda of this present world and await the cleansing by fire. Either way, prepare the way of the Lord.

It calls to question what bible he was reading when he says Christ's message was one of tolerance. He loved, sure, but He sure as heck didn't tolerate sin. He called the Pharisees white washed tombs and hypocrites. He flipped tables in the temple calling it a den of thieves. He didn't condone the women caught in adultery but called her to something higher and says go and sin no more. Christ was never tolerant of these sins but called them out for it and challenges us to be better out of love and wanting us to grow and live life to the fullest. I don't know if banning Nancy Pelosi was the best choice or not but the good Archbishop was definitely correct to call Nancy out on her actions.

I can completely understand, with a greal deal of sadness of course, why a Catholic might leave the Faith for intellectual reasons. For example, he or she might stop believing in God because he or she is no longer convinced by arguments for God's existence, or no longer accepts teachings like the virgin birth or original sin. But the ''argument'' this man has proposed has no logical merit. It is based on raw emotion. It is filled with non sequiturs. He says that he will leave the Church because of the Archbishop's stance on abortion. How does this argument follow? He would need to include other premises for the argument to follow; namely, that the Archbishop is somehow a mouthpiece for all bishops, and the entire Church hierarchy, none of which, In my view, are at all true or even remotely plausible. So, here we have another Catholic leaving the Faith for no real reason at all. It seems blatantly obvious to me that the Church in the West has catechized Catholics so poorly that they might think in the way this man has thought about the Faith. If I am right, the Church there is lost, and I mean really lost.

If u say tht the hierarchy cannot identify such clergy, then when some of these hv been exposed, they are just transferrec out to another parish. Does the bishop doing the transfer advise these pedophiles not to partake of the real presence? I dont think so. Its all a game in the rcc. But the laity are not allowed to partake. "not everyone who says to me lord lord will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of my father in heaven" its very bloody simple. Tolerance of your past once you renounce it and forgiveness when you ask him for it from then on. You are not a faithful Catholic if you live contrary to Catholic teaching. End of. Your conscience is not the will of God. Neither is mine. It was conscience, distorted by culture, that allowed every human atrocity throughout history, it was malformation of conscience that allowed the evil of abortion to begin with. The will of God was given to the apostles, preserved through the generations by the scriptures and the writings of the saints and is considered by qualified leaders in the magisterium.

It seems that she must not have repented this sin and the Bishop stated that he spent several years counseling her about this before finally denying her communion. Since she so publicly supported abortion it created a scandal to other practicing Catholics that she was allowed communion while in a state of mortal sin. The Bishop did the right thing and probably should have done it sooner.

The best way to be progressive is to progress into orthodoxy without becoming a reactionary. The only thing to leave in this life is sin, leaving it in confession, including any fifth gospel according to selfishness.

Not really an issue of someone honestly looking in the mirror and coming to accept they can't believe in some point of theology. This is just someone who doesn't like that the church does not agree with their social / political views.
