    Christian, you are brilliant at teaching english .I'm an Englishman of 67 years. And I wish I was learning my own language after watching your videos, it's crazy, I can't wait to discover the next one !

    This is the sort of things teachers never teach and students end up talking in a stilted and overly formal way. Great class!

    Thank you Christian, I am inspired to learn English after watching some of your videos and lessons on TH-cam: you teach me the true value of English (being able to share and connect) and how to use the language correctly. Plus, I really love your speaking style: slow but natural and concise. As a math teacher, I'm trying to apply your style on my lectures, finding out that it's really effective

    I hadn't watched your videos before! I got here because I was trying to find out how to explain this topic to my students. Your explanation was absolutely brilliant!
    More than learning new things about the language, thanks because you are also a nice example for teachers. I think we constantly need to touch base with other teachers around the world to learn new things on how to improve or at least change our strategies. I will take a look at your other videos. I'm glad I found your channel. Greetings from México.

      Hello and thanks for your kind words! I agree that it's really important that teachers feel part of a community and also share knowledge. I have learnt so much from conversations with other teachers that have changed the way I work. The word 'redundant' would come very handy here. It goes without saying that if 'redundant' the unit of speech concerned can be and should be deleted. This is universal language as compared to tongue (langue, idiom), the latter controlled by rules. 'Gapping' works within structure (syntax). 'Redundant' has more to do with meaning. The two overlap. The result is the same: ellipsis, i.e. deletion. John C

    Hello, Christian, and thanks for this fantastic and useful class about ellipsis, i didn't know anything about it even though i sometimes use it without knowing the reason and most of all the rules, but only because i've learned around. I've always been wondering why i hear people speaking or writing in this way, and now thanks to you i have the explanation, that's really great!!!! One last thing before i leave you, here in Italy we say "Peperoni" not "Pepperoni" only one "P" hahaha!!!! :) i'm just joking! :) Thanks for all my precious teacher, and see you in class! :)

    Very nice and interesting lesson. But I think that in the last but one Veronica's sentence occured a tiny mistake. This sentence should be: I liked mine, but I had always wanted to try hers.
    If I am right, the final shape of this sentence (with regard to the context) could be: I liked mine, but always wanted to try hers.
    Am I right?
    Cheers from Slovakia

    Is there differente between "gift" and "present"??
    When use one and other?
    is it correct "one and other"?

    • @Canguroenglish
      @Canguroenglish  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Gift and present are 'perfect synonyms': they mean exactly the same thing. "One and other" is not correct because we need an article before 'other', so it could be "one and the other" or "one and another". I hope that helps!
