Disagreed. I've been watching bball since the Magic/Bird era, & I happen to like this era the most. Players these days are more skilled than ever, shoot the ball better than ever, play faster than ever.

@@heywella if you have a counter, then make it. Otherwise, you're the troll here. All the past players think they'd kill it during this era. I disagree. The speed of the game these days will leave a lot of them in the dust. Magic would kill it in some ways, but he wasn't that fast, & he was never a shooter.

    • @heywella
      @heywella 15 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

@@audience7264 you lost me at skilled. Of course they seem more skilled. Defense is hardly played and they're allowed to walk, travel, carry and palm the ball every possession for the most part. Players seem to shoot better these days because lack of defense and because the post game is barely existent. What else do PF's and Centers have to work on? With the exception of some players, shooting isn't better overall. Every player thinks they're Stef Curry and it makes the game boring seeing three's chucked every other possession with 20 seconds left on the shot clock. There is no strategy anymore. It's all the same. If you're serious about when you started watching, that's unfortunate you're entertained by a dumbed down version of the game and think it's better than when it was in its golden era. The current league and media did their job well on folks like you.

My favorite Magic moment wasnt with him on the floor.
It was the Sports Ilustrated Issue the week Magic announced he was HIV.
They had a fold out centrerfold of just his fingers releasing a pass..
And it was exactly the same pose that Michelangelo painted on the Sistine Chapel of God touching Adam.
    And i cried.
    He wasnt merely great.
He was epherial. He was Godlike.
His touch gave the eighties its life.
When you think if the eighties, you think Showtime.
Magic at midcourt on thr break, passing to Worthy in stride, and then Coop getting the Alley Oop. Without missing a beat.
He was Miles Davis. He could see into the future. He made Showtime be Showtime.
Showtime only happened because Magic happened.

I've had the great pleasure to have seen what Magic could do on the court since he started to show up in sport highlight reels when he was a high school junior. One of the best half games of basketball I've ever watched is when Central Michigan decided they were going to run on the Spartans. Judd Heathcote ran set offensive plays, but in this game, Magic wasn't having any of that. Central started to fast break, and MSU retaliated with a full court attack, faster than anything CMU could muster. Magic showed us what LA was going to be looking like in three years when Magic went pro. No look passes, full court feeds, his forwards cutting to the basket at full speed and Magic delivering pin point passes. CMU was burnt out before half time and slowed the pace of the game way down. Everyone watching got to see the young Magic man living his best life with some other great college players.

I totally agree with Worthy (almost). If you are going to build a franchise you start with Bird and Magic, because they made all their teammates better. They could win with anyone. You cannot say that about MJ or Wilt. MJ or Wilt were probably the greatest individual players, but they both needed the right teammates. Not Bird and Magic. Look what Bird did at Indiana State then immediately takes the Celtics from 10th in the Eastern Conference to 8 conference titles over the Bird's first 8 seasons. Look how many different combination of teammates Magic took to the Finals.

It is hard for people to understand unless they watch the videos of the game(not the highlights) or if they were there.. What was unique about Magic was the speed of play. The number one goal of the Celts, and others in the league probably, was to slow them down. If you didn't the game was already over. Magic was like a quarterback. He would look for Worthy and Kareem downtown like a Brady, Montana, or Peyton would look for their receiver, and launch it if they were open. There was no one like him before or after. Just like, in present day, I've never seen anyone like Curry.

James worthy averaged 22 a game after he retired. 12 . Byron Scott 21 a game after 15. Vlade learned to be significant from him. So many others. Career sabotaged. The hate for the 32 is a different level of Napoleonic complex . I’d be surprised if this doesn’t get erased. U either get it or u don’t. Very cowardly sabotage. I'll never listen to anything that Isaiah Thomas says. He's so mad at Michael Jordan for stealing his shine, that he talks out of his ass when it comes to basketball. He said Lebron is better than Mike. 😂

Too slow. Jumper not good enough. Eras are different. Superstar in his era does not equate to a Superstar in today's era. 10 and 15 years from now, it will be the same for Durant, etc. The GTO was fast in its day. Nostalgic.

They wouldnt be able yo keep Magic out the lane. You cant hand check him. Complete freedom of movement. Magics way to strong and he now wouldnt have to deal with the big bruising centers in the middle. Plus the fact that hes 6"10 would probably make it easier for him to defend now because all these point guards do is shoot 3s, and hes gonna at least get a hand in your face with a 10 inch height advantage.

No they would not. They would be just as great as they were in their era.

Frame the GOAT criterion as which player would you pick first for a chip team.
    Bill Russell
    Magic Johnson
    Larry Bird
    Wilt Chamberlain
    Kareem Abdul Jabbar
    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Isiah Thomas
    Oscar Robertson
    Jerry West

Russell and Magic moved the ball around and made their teammates so much better, people are of the unlearned opinion that they 'couldn't' score. They could not be further from the truth. Both scored when their team needed them to.

Ok. Playoffs. Seattle seahawks. Lakers are up 3 0. Game e 4, seattle is up 30 points. Magic calls time out, not coach riley. He tells team dont look at the score. Lets cut it to 15.
They did that at the half. Ended up winning by 30. That was 1987 when they destroyed boston in the finals

All these NBA players today are concerned about is how many 3 pointers they can shoot per game. Or if your Steph Curry is how many half court shots you can sink per game. Yeah, todays NBA sucks big cock, compared to legendary NBA from 1980's to 2000.
