13, 14 years ago, I was working a movie premiere at the Manns Chinese Theater. As the show let out , all the stars come out wave to the crowd & duck into their limos & drive off. Magic walks out of the theater , walks directly over to the security rails, signs autographs & takes pictures with all of the people that waited for everyone to come out. He did that for 15-20 minutes easy. Its the little things that go a long way.

In 1977 we got to see Earvin Johnson play in Germany with the inaugural McDonald's All American all-stars after his senior high school season. It was such fun to watch him play and that famous smile of his was already magic. Fans ever since.

He's literally the first person to get AIDS, and be like, "I'm gonna beat that!". And did. And due primarily to him transformed the disease from an imminent death sentence, to something you can manage and live with. A true hero.
He hasn't progressed to AIDS that is the late stage of disease w/ CD4+ count < 200 and/or opportunistic infection w/ an AIDS-defining illness. He announced in 1991 that he contracted HIV from unprotected (heterosexual) sex. His virus level is virtually undetectable as he is on the HAART regimen; only AZT (zidovudine) was available when he was 1st diagnosed - the triple therapy regimen was approved 5-years later. He is not "cured" and remains on treatment.
Kinda helps when you have money for the best treatment in the world. If he was being treated at the free family clinic, you think he'd still be around?

Having been at the Garden every time the Lakers played my home team in the eighties, I was hoping Magic would mention Bird. I'd followed their wonderful rivalry since the college playoffs, watching their growing respect for one another and the joyful grace and passion they brought to the game. The best of their time, always left 💯% on the court.❤
