      Krav Maga schools and instructors, unfortunately, are hit or miss. Some are pretty good, and some are a joke. And that sucks, because for a total novice who has never had any real training in anything whatsoever, and has no idea what to look for in a good school and good instructor, it's a complete scam. It actually angers me quite a bit that there is so much bullshit fuckery in the martial arts community.

      It's kinda interesting. For example here, in central Europe, I have yet to see a single McDojo style Krav Maga gym. Most KM here is taught in the same no-BS style. Similarly to the video, the pre-baked techniques are just a small part, and pretty much all training lessons have the bread & butter kickboxing and grappling sparring sessions (usually near the end). Except maybe first 2-3 months where newbies learn how to hit and kick properly.

      I've been kneed in the groin several times while grappling and gave shrugged it off because I was so focused on attaining a dominant position. A guy I used to train with (former pro boxer) got kicked real hard in the nuts outside of a bar one night. He was able to ignore the pain and beat the sh*t out of the dude. He said his nuts did hurt for like two weeks after that. One time during a street fight I tried to punch a dude in the nuts and it didn't make contact because he was wearing baggy jeans. Nut shots aren't as reliable as you think, especially when adrenaline, determination, and drugs are involved. I actually think that "dirty tactics" are usually a poor substitute for actual fighting skill.

    It is super cool that she can combine everything together.
    practise allways will beat theory...
    Fighting will be more effective than just talking about fighting and just drillig something with somebody who dont really want to hit you.
    Sparrings are super important, there you are learning how effective you are, how people react on your attacks and what is more important, how you reacting whfn you get hit. Etc.
    1min of live sparring can give you more information than 1month of drilling some super moves.

    • @wattlebough
      @wattlebough ปีที่แล้ว +3

      If you’re training to learn self-defence the Krav Maga philosophy to self-defence is the essential foundation that guides the application of your Muay Thai and BJJ skills. If you’re coming in as a clean slate with no previous martial arts training looking to learn to defend yourself, I’d start with KM, as it teaches the street survival mentality that guides your choice of tactics, responses and objectives in the fight, and it teaches you the basics of all aspects of fighting quickly. After a year or two training KM then add in dedicated Boxing, BJJ, MT, Wrestling and Judo. But you never forget the KM foundational philosophy when you’re out in the world.

    I’m so bummed I didn’t know you were going to be here, I’m all of 20 minutes from Dacula!! Here’s something for ya-I graduated from Dacula high school, but I didn’t start high school there. My parents transferred me there sophomore year bc I had been attacked while walking from my car to the high school I attended at the time, at 7 am, right as I stepped onto campus. Dude grabbed me from behind (in a wrecking ball sort of way). He hit me and cut me with a knife, but none of it too bad, just terrifying bc he was trying to take me. That was a hill I was willing to die on, though, I wasn’t going anywhere if I could help if, and I held out long enough, protecting my head while kicking the shit out of his knee every chance I got (which was anti-climatic if I’m being honest-I didn’t do much damage, but I did slow him down) and finally a teacher rounded the corner between the buildings, and he decided to bug out. The whole thing probably only lasted a minute or two, but that 2 minutes is top of my list for things I never want to do again, LOL. Anyway, you said Dacula and it brought back all that, it felt serendipitous so I shared. You’re welcome.

  • @jenx5870
    @jenx5870 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The most important takeaway is to be aware of your surroundings, and to not get grabbed from behind, because often groin strikes don't work. When a man has adrenaline running through them, thick clothing like jeans on, and the kick isn't a strong and direct one, or they are using certain drugs, the groin strike will be rendered completely ineffective. Sometimes it only further enrages them, and they fight through it. Your best chance at getting out of being grabbed from behind is to not be grabbed from behind at all, or as she showed, to catch them before they actually get a grip on you. Once they have a firm grip, you are pretty much at their mercy. Especially if they can lift you up or get you on the ground. I know this, because I was almost strangled to death at 17 yrs old, and no matter what I did to fight for my life, the only thing that saved me was the fact that the other man with him grew a conscience, and stopped him at the last minute. Concealed carry, and not letting them close enough to steal your weapon will also stop them.

    The problem with groin strikes is too many people think that they are an instant fight ender. They can be but it's like anything, hitting a specific target hard enough, with adrenaline going, is extremely difficult without drilling the shit out of it and not everyone is affected by groin strikes. The instructor in this video has such good energy though and the practicality looks excellent.

I've been kicked in the groin by full strength front kicks in M/A tournaments and still fought through for 10 - 15 seconds before the pain got debilitating. 10 seconds in a street encounter is everything. A groin strike is a good distraction/opener for subsequent strikes/grappling or just running tf away at full speed.

    I actually like the step out and raise your arm technique against the rear bear hug. You can practice it safely against real pressure, instead of roleplaying the escape. This and that double choke defense technique where you raise your arm straight up in the air and twist your body are the only KM techniques that look high percentage to me.

    My gf and her mom worked for a Krav Maga school for years and as someone who is very skeptical
    Of the martial arts having practiced since I was a child and finding out through sparring what does and doesn’t actually work it was a breath of fresh air to meet someone who’s Krav Maga wasn’t aikido 😂 theirs is basically mma with a lot of hand fighting, grappling and Muay Thai

    Great to see another KM with live drilling and sparring. Is Pure a FTF affiliate?
    It's not that groin strikes are not effective, it's that you can't "just" use them as in, "I they do that I'll JUST kick'em in the nads....poke their eye...hit them with my keys..." etc. Fundamental fighting skills are necessary to get the most out them.

    i've always felt krav maga is great when you already have some grappling and striking fundamentals as a base FIRST.

    I took a Krav Maga class before and really like many of its concepts; like "retzev" for instance. Being kind of a blending pot of various techniques, the class had people from various different backgrounds from completely untrained to all state level wrestlers, whom were especially humbling to grapple against and were the motivation for me to seek out more wrestling training on top of my boxing with a bit of judo at the time.

  • @9usuck0

    Most things people say are "fundamental" to their art, which is typically fundamental for all arts. What art doesn't focus on structure and rhythm.
    Fighting will always end up all pretty much the same way. It'll just be stylistically a little different. You can only punch so many ways.
