Awesome list brother. I love these 31 on 31st lists. Ghost Protocol is definitely my favorite MI film too. I'm a John Wick sucker though man. When I saw the first one and the stunts, how steady and confidently it was shot. Absolutely flawless action flick.

Loved this list, dude! Just thought of a future 31 on 31 that you guys could undertake: Best Sci-Fi/Horror Hybrids. I think I found 31 films...Alien (6), Terminator (6), Predator (4), AVP (2), Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (4), The Thing (3), The Fly (3) and Pitch Black (3). Peace, bro!

Cody thanks for giving some love to Bad Boys II. All I ever hear is people bashing it, but I like it a lot. And it has one of the best car chases I've ever seen, with all the cars being thrown at them on the freeway. Great list!
(after viewing). Thank you! Die Hard is, hands down, the best action movie to ever bless theaters and television with its grace. Bruce Willis redefined the action hero, mainly because the John McClain character was not a hero at all but just a regular guy who was thrust into a crazy situation that he's just trying to survive while trying to rescue his wife (and about thirty other hostages). He wasn't trying to be a badass, he was just trying to stay alive, which makes the character all the more relatable. Great action sequences, great fight scenes, high tension situations, great characters--villians, sidekicks, etc.--great story and a kick-ass director (which is why I think Die Hard With a Vengeance runs this movie a close second).

I was watching a recent episode with y'all, and y'all were discussing this particular episode of 31 On 31, the fact that it was action\adventure and the franchises included herein. I was already into 4 of the 7: Rambo, Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and John Wick. Mission: Impossible and Bourne, I just thought I'd never dig. But y'all made them sound so interesting, I thought:"Why not?" So, I'm going to collect those 2 franchises, as well. As for Bad Boys, still undecided. Saw the original, dug it. Don't remember if I saw the second, and I know I haven't seen the third. Guess I'll have to consider that one, as well.

i am with you on this being a tough tough list to make, i thought the bottom was easy and the top several but thats it. A good day to die hard is terrible i gave it a half star on letterboxd and that is very very rare for me to give a half star. I love Rambo 2 because i saw it in the theatre with my dad and we didn't go to movies alone often. we saw many movies together but with my whole family this was just the two of us. i was 12 which was the perfect age for that. and it is so damn 80s which was when i grew up so it kills me with nostalgia.

Hey Cody I felt the same way about the extended cut of Rambo Last Blood. Whereas u said It brought it up pretty much even to Rambo 4 but just below, for me it just put it above Rambo 4. It definitely feels more Rambo just with those extra 12 minutes added.

I agree Die Hard is number 1 and also the one movie I watch every year on Christmas Eve. And how you feel about Lethal Weapon 4 is me with 3. We only owned that one when I grew up so that's Lethal Weapon for me, watched it a lot and holds that nostalgic feeling.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I respect that. Having said that, in no universe is any Bad Boys movie above any John Wick or Rambo.

@Cody Leach, I love this list. I think Die Hard with a Vengeance mainstream audience wise is actually supremely underrated, which is why I love that you have it so high on this list. The movie has so many social elements that still ring true today ( and this was what 1995) when talking about racism, terror, history and just how people view New York from an outside perspective. Samuel Jackson is the perfect foil to John McClane and while in the first movie it was Hans Gruber who was the perfect foil for John, this movie has that great comraderie but also has the revenge factor of being Hans Gruber's Family involved. The fact that john is now divorced and that he just had the worst hangover of his life is awesome. I honestly have a hard time with this and the original die hard. Die hard has better action sequences imo, but 3 has better comical moments and better scenes that sprawl throughout new york and eventually, to Canada. I could watch both movies 100 times and love them every time. Thanks Cody.

Great list. Would have put Die Hard 2 higher... It's such a fun movie. You got the #1 perfectly right!
Have yet to catch up on all of these movies, but am broadly in agreement with you here. No surprise at all that Die Hard would be your top choice, and - given the pattern of your other 31 on 31s, it followed that the worst sequel to your top pick would claim the bottom spot. Am also glad you put the third Die Hard film as high as you did; I've always liked that one almost as much as the first (though that may be just because I saw it first). Was not as big a fan of the fourth film as you are, though.
I think our biggest disagreements would be on the Bad Boys series as well as the original First Blood; Michael Bay has never done much for me, and although Smith & Lawrence are fun to watch, they're not enough to put those films into my plus column. Was expecting to like First Blood but was disappointed; I should probably give it another shot, since it is the kind of film I tend to like (along with the original Predator, which I also, to my great surprise, found to be a letdown).
I'd probably put the original Lethal Weapon at the top, but it would be an extremely close pick over the original Die Hard.
Wasn't expecting you to like Lethal Weapon 2 over the original, given its goofier tone, but that ranking does put you in agreement with Donner, Gibson & Glover.
Of course, these series are picked so as to add up to 31 films, but one franchise that I wish had been here is the Raiders series: the original would be a contender for the top spot, and the first two sequels are terrific too. (Then again, you could fill - until December - an entire 31 on 31 ranking with only Steven Spielberg movies!)
Come to think of it, make that two series I wish had been here: the Raiders & Mad Max movies. The Raid films, by Gareth Evans, are also superb, but since there are only two of them I can understand why they weren't included.

I watched Die Hard for the first time recently and it’s my 5th favorite film of all time and it might go up the more I watch it

31. A Good Day to Die Hard (I can not put into word how much I hate this film)
30. Mission Impossible II (Doesn’t feel like a Mission Impossible movie, but a Bond movie at its worst)
29. Rambo III (First Blood Part II, but more mindless and less story oriented)
28. Bad Boys II (Goes in for WAYYYY too long and can get a bit tiring with all the bickering and juvenile jokes)
27. Rambo: Last Blood (Really bloody and has some awesome set pieces, but it just doesn’t feel like a coherent film and at times feels focused more on the action than the story)
26. Rambo: First Blood Part II (a bit too action oriented, not story oriented)
25. Bad Boys (A juvenile buddy cop movie you can have fun with)
24. Jason Bourne (Same as Legacy haha)
23. Bourne Legacy (An actually decent action movie, though I’m not a fan of some of the reveals)
22. Lethal Weapon 3 (Another good installment into the franchise)
21. Lethal Weapon 4 (Not on par with the first two, but still has many great moments and a great climax)
20. Rambo (from here these are movies I love, so I got a lot of good things to say. I love this movie for its bloody action and carnage)
19. Mission Impossible III (A intense action movie with one of the best villains in the franchise, I just prefer the top 18)
18. Die Hard 2 (It’s a great tense movie, but it’s too similar to the first one, not it’s own movie)
17. Live Free or Die Hard (It has some great action set pieces, though John McClane does some stuff that is a bit far fetched)
16. Bad Boys For Life (Haven’t finished seeing this, seen most of it, it was better than the previous two)
15. Die Hard with a Vengeance (A true sequel to the original Die Hard, but I agree it’s a bit anti-climactic)
14. John Wick Chapter 3 (An awesome action movie, though the story could’ve been better)
13. Bourne Supremacy (A great movie, though I like the ones that surround it better)
12. Mission: Impossible (Such an overlooked spy film, has so much tension and mystery)
11. First Blood (Not as action packed as these other films, but instead a deep character study of Rambo. I’ve never been the biggest fan of the Rambo franchise, but I some of them)
10. Bourne Identity (On par with the first, a great introduction to this character)
9. Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation ( a great story with intense action scenes)
8. Bourne Ultimatum (A great action movie and a great conclusion to the Bourne trilogy)
7. Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (Was my favorite MI movie for the longest time, has so many great action set pieces)
6. Lethal Weapon 2 (on par with the first)
5. Lethal Weapon (Such a classic buddy cop movie)
4. John Wick (a great revenge action film)
3. Mission Impossible: Fallout (Great sequences and connects the whole franchise in a great way)
2. John Wick Chapter 2 (Expands the Wick Universe so much and has some of the best action I have seen)
1. Die Hard (Such a well set up action movie with tense scenes and a likeable main character)
I grew up on a steady diet of Arnold n Sly, with Freddy n Pinhead as my favorite dessert so to speak. But as much as I love action movies, I've never seen any of the Bourne films or Mission Impossible films.

2 of my favorite movies are on this list, I love Bad boys 2 and Die Hard. My top 3 favorite movies are probably The Incredibles, Die Hard and Bad boys 2. And yes Die Hard is 100% a Christmas movie! And the best Christmas movie. My go to October Halloween movie is Batman Begins because it’s another one of my favorites and it has that whole Scarecrow element and themes on fear which is a main theme of Halloween, getting scared. Die Hard I view as the same, it’s main plot revolves around John McClane’s family life. And family is one of the main parts of Christmas. Best Christmas movie ever!
