    MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Q: How do you have internet at your cabins? A: I have cell service at both cabins but it is spotty due to foliage and cloud cover. I can access the internet from my cabins but have to drive to a local wifi location to upload videos.
Q: How old is Frankie? A: Frankie will be 10 in April of 2018
Q: What video editing software do I use? A: Presently, all I use is Windows Live Movie maker but I’m considering trying imovie, Adobe Elements or SONY VEGAS PRO.
Q: How do you get your water? Did you dig a well? A: Presently, I haul water to the NY cabin but at the NH cabin, I drop a kettle into an old well that was dug by hand by the settlers in the 1700’s.
Q:What is your favorite brand of cast iron cookware? A: I prefer using vintage cast iron. My favorites are BSR and Griswold. If I had to buy new I would buy a Lodge Brand. I plan to purchase this dutch oven in the future:
Q: What do you use for refrigeration? A: We have a small gas refrigerator that we salvaged from an old Shasta camper and a custom icebox that I built into the cabin wall. We make ice on site with a propane freezer.
    Video of icebox:
    Video of Gas Refrigerator:
    Propane Freezer:
Q: What do you use for cooking and heating? A: We use a Kitchen Queen 380 for cooking and heating during the winter months but we also have an antique gas stove in the cabin for when we don't need the heat from the KQ.

I like to use windshield washer fluid for the pails, it pickles the mice so they don’t stink as bad as in water, especially useful in remote cabins that don’t get checked on very often..

Planning to build my off grid place later this year. Saw a neat trick. When you build, before you insulate and close up the walls. Mix up some "Borocare" (home depot) in a pesticide sprayer. Then soak down all the wood in your framing top to bottom. After it soaks in termites and carpenter ants will NOT consume your wood. Also sprinkle borax powder in the bottom of every available frame. This will prevent ants from coming in and cockroaches too.....
Mix a little antifreeze in the water it won't stink so much...

The ant method depends on the type of ant. Some go for sugar, others like protein. If they're not attracted to sugar, mix the borax powder into peanut butter. It doesn't take much.

Hey Boss Man, thanks for the video...... The house that I live in now, I've been here for 6 years this spring. About three years ago I started having ant problems. Outside and inside. I mean there would be thousands of them marching around the walls. Well I took an empty windex bottle and filled it with white vinegar and a little dish soap and started spraying them. Well that killed them right there and then. But the problem is, they just keep coming...... So one day I was on my back porch and a long trail of ants was crossing the sidewalk and I was out of vinegar and I knew I needed to do something. I had a box of opened baking soda in the kitchen. I don't know why, but I'm thankful that I did, I sprinkled baking soda on the ant trail. Nothing happened, they just marched back and forth, so I thought all was lost. In a few days I noticed the ants were gone. So I sprinkled baking soda on all my counter tops in the kitchen and bath rooms, anywhere I had saw ants........ That's been a year now and no ants, thank God!!! Just good old baking soda, didn't have to mix nothing, just put it out!

If you mean Ant-Rid, it is still around, but you have to search...try Foodland. The bottle is refillable.... look for the fine line at the base of the nozzle, between that and the screw track for the lid, and carefully use a blunt but thin knife blade to prise it off. Bob's your uncle...use a fine funnel to refill the bottle with this recipe. I also use this recipe to pour into ant holes, but l make it with very little water, so that it is a sludge that they have to remove in order to get in/out of their nest.... pour in until no more fits, then check back in a couple of days to see whether they need another dose. Keep pets away from the area until all gone. 👍😊🐜

Love your mousetrap! Been using borax and sugar for years. Mix the two in a wide mouth jaw, leaving it dry. Drill holes in the lid to make a shaker. This is good for covering fire ant mounds. If a light rain shower isn't expected in a few hours, mist a little water so the borax and sugar will bond. Soon the mound is dead.

Yep, up here in the upper peninsula of Michigan that's called a yooper mouse trap. We put those in the cabin when closing them up for the winter. Yoopers use antifreeze in the bucket. When it gets below zero and those rodents come in they don't eat the food off. That way you catch them all winter and spring . When you come back to open the cabin it doesn't stink. Just a bucket o mice. :)

The ant poison works great. Powdered sugar or white sugar works best. Just need to make sure the sugar is completely dissolved to a liquid form. If it's too thick or not dissolved, it will solidify too fast and not work as well. It takes about a week and then I see dead ants all over the place. Have fun :-)

When renovating the kitchen, I laid down heaps of plain Borax along all the wall bases and flooring. Installed the drywall and flooring. No ants or roaches in 21 years. We also place a bunch under the house in the crawlspace all along the perimeter of the house foundation. Of course, keeping all pets away while you do this. NO more giant water bugs (the ones that look like giant roaches). Since under the house gets wet, we renew the Borax every summer.

I had ant problems too, but I checked around the house and watched for ants outside. I followed them to locate their colony. Boiled a few huge pots of water and poured the boiling water on their nests. Afterward I poured a BIT of gasoline around the nests and set it on fire (make sure to have a hose ready in case you use too much gasoline). It must have killed most of them AND their queen as they all disappeared after that. And a large circle of dead grass or a small mound under the grass is a good indicator of their colony.

I like your rolling can if you have several mice. If you just have the rogue mouse or 2, you can simply float a piece of wax paper in the water with some seeds or something on top, and they'll jump in from the ramp thinking its a solid surface below. Definitely trying your ant formula tomorrow I think they are eating my garage as we speak!

Thanks for a great video! I use this method in my house, but when l have found the nest outside, l make the recipe with only a little water, so that it is a sludge that l can gloop into their hole/s. I mix it in an old pan, kept for the purpose, with an old serving-spoon. Just use a dash of hot water from the kettle. I put as much in as will fit, then they go into a frenzy, clearing the entrance/s, and putting it into storage, feeding their queen and the nursery. I cleared a massive colony of meat ants this way, that had spread from next door's paddock, into my garden.... the borax gloop was taken from the entrances in my garden, 60m into the central colony in the paddock. I had to retreat twice, it was so big, but l got them all! No meat ants for 3 years. The solution doesn't poison the soil, like commercially-made "ant-sand" does ( as they warn on the bottle!) Works on small ants too. Try to find as many entrances as you can, and give them a sugar treat at each. I find that birds don't go for it, as the ants are so frantic...it's all hands on deck for them! The only reason l buy cheap white sugar is for making ant-poison! (Raw or brown is people-sugar!) 😊👍🍯🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜

Take a mayonnaise jar lid fill it with the soda pop called Fresca, have it placed where rodents are frequenting, place as many lids as necessary, fill the lid to the brim, refresh it daily with a fresh can.
Rodents will disappear, and if a hawk, owl, or cat get them there's no danger of a non target species getting poisoned. The reason why it works so effectively is the fact that Rodents can't burp, so they wander away with a bloated belly unable to eat, or drink anymore.

    • @LiveMusicOntario
      @LiveMusicOntario 4 ปีที่แล้ว

That sounds crazy enough to try. Anything unique about Fresca? I haven't heard that name for ages but now I'll have to look (burp).

It's something that's been around a long, long time, Fresca just has a ton of Fizz to it that lasts, and they love it.

Those mousetraps do work the best. Our cabin gets snowed in usually from November 'till May, so when I finally get there in the spring, those buckets really stink. I started dumping windshield washer fluid in there instead of water. It won't freeze and it cuts down on the smell too. Thanks for the vid. Boss!

We just made five traps for the yard, garage, and two shed/workshops. hope the ant bait works as well for us as for you. we live in the rocky mountains....I'm not sure if the type of ants we have are baited with the same mixtures. we will see! thanks for the vid. I'm making the mouse traps tomorrow. we just finished building the wood working shop today....so glad it is done....augh. I don't recommend buying the shed/shop kits from lumber companies. we live 100 miles from the business....we have had to make six trips to get products they didn't include or thought they had included in the original package. that isn't including the rafter plans.........only 2 feet to narrow! it's been a learning experience....mostly, don't buy the kits. haha

if you put some used anti-freeze in the trap, it cuts down on the smell significantly. we started using it in our cabin in upstate NY originally because the water froze. We found that as a secondary benefit it kept the smell down to almost nothing, I use straight anti freeze.

Howdy, I have a seasonal mouse problem as I'm weeks on end away from home, I had resorted to spraying surface spray for cockroach's as a deterrent instead of kill as I'm not there to empty traps etc. It works awesome however it also keeps the spiders out or dead. I love a house full of spiders and used to love coming home after being away for 10 or so weeks and all the doorways sown up in webs!
When I'm home Christmas time again for about 8 ish weeks I'll try this instead, and wash the whole house down so to attract the spiders back in, I have saved this bid and will report back in 10 or so months!
    Cheers. [Australia] 🎄

I have a good mouse solution too. It's called a rescue cat. She is a sweet and cuddly as any animal, but she lived rough for a year in an alley before she was rescued. Now she cannot stop hunting even when she has lots of food and keeps my house free of mice, well not free but the ones she brings back are dead, and she keeps the neighbor's house on both sides free as well. The main threat she faces is coyotes, but the dog usually goes out with her and keeps an eye on things. The dog is dumb as hell though if the cat brings him back a live mouse. He thinks it is a nasty squeaky toy and doesn't know the cat brought it to him as a snacky treat. Now the downside of having a hunting cat is that they will also take song birds. But realistically she only really catches the ones that have crashed into the window and my wife saves most of them before they are killed. I'd say the cat kills 3 or 4 birds a year, and perhaps 100 mice or more. There is no way to know if the birds that fly head first into the window are going to survive anyway so I don't lose a lot of sleep over it, but many of them have flown away once my wife got them from the cat and nursed them back to health.

Hi Boss, we had a terrible mice problem in our country home, but got two cats and the only mouse problem we had after that, was finding the occasional "gift" of gizzards and front teeth on our doorstep. Not pleasant but better than the little buggers running around the house. The cats could come and go and we just fed them dry catfood, so they killed lots of mice. Mind you, cats can be a pain in the arse on the furniture etc. Not always the best solution.
