Hi there. I've been a "quiet observer" for a couple of years. I enjoy these so much, even though my physical self could not do what you do, I have learned!
@Bella Donna Same here. I had no clue and my business used them for cutting sheet metal. We had the 3 colors and I would normally grab the red ones. They seemed to cut the best for me. Now I know why the green ones were so useless. lol
Hardly anyone knows, it’s about the piece you are making not getting distorted, trim side= lower jaw jaw, other side isn’t altered, you can cut with all three, straight is for notches, will distort both, not long cuts, though everyone does it. There’s a proper tool for what he’s doing keeps hand out, no damage, but everyone does it with what have, and right left handed, compounds, and I know nothing about metal work. Only metal workers, tool sellers and biochemical autistics doomed to remember all, know such things, pointless minutiae. If you’re a prepare prepper? person you know we lost tool and self reliant skills wholesale, I’d make a mess of it.
when I was a little girl, I would follow my dad around while he fixed things and started new projects. I built a network of treehouses in our back woods. they were not cabins but I and my animals loved them! these vlogs remind me of that time.....
Not sure you considered this but I would have used food grade Silicone Rubber as an adhesive between the bottom lid and top container. Not sure what kind of chemicals are in the adhesive pads you used but I would be concerned that through condensation of the lid, that you might contaminate your filtered water. That and a Silicone bead would assure an air tight seal and would decrease the likelihood of small insects getting between the adhesive pads. Best to you.
I had a Berkey,it leaked like a sieve around the connection of the two fill tanks..the filters finally failed after about 2years ( I have no idea how many gallons we put through it) the wife said she didn't want to spend the $$$ for new filters...so out it went.
@Gigi Devoe of you used a silicone bead around the circumference inside *and* out.. It would be air and watertight as long as its treated with respect and not abused (you can use it a lot, just dont beat the shyt outta it). Or weld it. I reckon. Up to you. In my opinion with this setup you could use a variety of filters and achieve more than satisfactory results.
Using a heat gun will loosen up most silicone or latex caulking. Unless it is high heat silicone like used on thermostats in cars. If that is the case a razor knife works pretty good.
Because of the current situation, Berkeys are just unattainable......but, because of this fantastic diy, I just ordered a 2 filters pack from Berkey (120.00 free shipping) and will build this puppy as soon as the filters come in. Thank you so much! Thank you.
I just finished my first Berkey water filtration system! Works great and plan on making more for family and friends. I would recommend that all of you try this, fresh water is important!
Mann are you loving in life. It felt like I was listening to a bedside story. So relaxing made me feel as if I was there. Thank you for welcoming us into your home.
I did the same thing with a couple of improvements one is you get the taller stock pot for the bottom vessel which means you never have to worry about spillage between the two vessels we also use the white filters below the black charcoal filters to filter out excess fluoride and I used stainless steel Nuts and Bolts to tie the top vessel to the bottom lid with neoprene washers We have berkey quality at half price
Hello from Delaware Boss. I saw the Berkey assembly on their website and immediately started researching building my own and I'm glad I saw your video. What a time saver your video will be for me. God Bless.
Thank you so much for making your videos. Our whole family loves watching them. You have in some ways become part of the family lol. We are about move on our land and have been busily preparing for the move and you have saved us a great deal of money and we can not thank you enough! An additional word of thanks for keeping your language and side comments "family friendly". Lord bless you.
I like your idea. I have a Berkey water filter. I bought the stainless steel spigot and never worry about the plastic breaking. I also got the ceramic filters instead of the black and the outside can be washed with a toothbrush and running water. These can last indefinitely. I used to use only 2, but if you have a family, use 4 filters for faster filtering. One tip is that I recycle my V8 veg. bottles and fill them with tap water (I find that our city water leaves a brownish film on the filters which I wash off every few months) and pou it in top. Then I drain out same amount from bottom. So what goes in equals what comes out and I don't run out.
Wow! I really appreciated this vedio. I've lived off grid 25 years drinking rain water. Found a new, unused plastic Berkey system new filters and all. Will buy my stainless pots and see if I can do this. No way can I spend my $s on a Berkey stainless system so thanks for teaching me. Off grid in Oklahoma Mt.Momma
I've wanted a Berkley to go camping for a long time. I couldn't justify the price. Thanks to you I am making a Boss of the Swamp water purifier. So simple, I am kicking myself. Thanks so much!
Keep an eye on those filters. A lot of people got stuck with bad filters 2-3 years ago when Berkey had some bad batches come out and didn't do a recall. The filters were separating. From everything I've read, the ones out now are fine. Just wouldn't want to get stuck with someone unloading the old ones. Love your videos! Thank you.
Great Video! I just built my daughter a Stainless Steel Berkey Water Purifier. She is very happy. Thanks to you, I look like a super hero mom that can do anything.
Just giving you an update. My daughter is really pleased with your DIY Stainless Steel Berkey Water Purifier. She says the water taste great. They have it setting out where the kids (2 yrs old & 6 yrs old) can come by and fill up their cup with water and I see them using it all the time. I can't afford to buy the pre-made one, so your DIY one really helped us out. Appreciate you taking the time to do this video.
Could use food-grade caulk to stick the cut-out lid to bottom of the top filter bucket...that could seal the space between far better, to prevent germs growing where it can't be cleaned [in the taped unit]. Be sure to stockpile replacement filters!
You inspire so many people and you exemplify all that is good and wise. I am 58 and your demeanor and kind approach takes me back to the great qualities that my grandparents exhibited in my youth. You teach appreciation for the world around us and do it with class, humor, and a genuine caring for the folks who watch. I have only ever subscribed to one you tube channel, and it was yours today. Thanks so much for sharing your wisdom and give Frankie a scratch on the ears for me. God Bless!
Amazing !" I've been looking for a water filtration system.RO an Berkey an all ! Then I go to your Chanel see you with the perfect solution. Thank you !"👍bossoftheswamp "You are awsome !"
OMG oodness YOU ARE AWESOME I am a Vermonter, Originally now i live in North FL YOU bring me home with every video i watch THANK YOU THANK YOU my heart stings still call me to new England. You are a wonderful man and thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing. LIVING IN NATURE IS THE ONLY WAY TO LIVE GODS BLESSING TO YOU Robin
1. With Ceramic filters you must boil the water. 2. I am not sure if using Berkey's Aluminum filters to remove Fluoride is a good idea. 3. Start with a 1/4 drill bit and go up by 32nds of an inch if possible. The filters are self-tapping. 4. A spigot will save a lot of time. 5. A base to set the filter on is very handy. 6. Clean, Clean, Clean everything as needed. Check around for discounted new Berkey filters. Thanks for the heads-up on the Walmart stainless steel pots. Great idea.
2. Why would you think removing fluoride isn't a good idea. 3. Unibits are an option, expensive, but worth it,IMO, regarding these kind of projects. 5.Maybe another ring between the top and bottom pots. The ring could be fabricated to the bottom of the top pots giving a measured distance such you don't rest the post on where the water exits.
Buster Brown I saw a box of unopened Berkey filters at a goodwill one time and thought, “to bad I don’t have a Berkey” they were 3.99 or something ! Next time I’m making one of these !
YOUR A GUY AFTER MY OWN HEART, I LOVE YOU AMERICANS LIKE YOU AND WHEN THE CHIT HITS THE FAN I HOPE I MEET YOU BUT HIGHLY UNLIKELY. GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND I HAVE DONE YOUR WISH!
Seeing as you are using a stock pot you could use a real brass or stainless water spigot and get way better flow. That berkey spigot takes forever to fill up a pitcher. Cheers
Boss been watching your videos for over a year now and I loved everyone of them. I build my cabin last year and got two more years to get some stuff paid for, then it's off to the cabin full time. You have inspired my life ole man.
Thank you for your videos on this build. We finished building ours last night! We used a 10in sight glass spigot, which is a little tall for the 16qt Walmart stockpots, but it does not look bad at all.
Thank You, I knew I saw this before. My wife asked me about a Water Purifier today and I remembered you had made one. It's only 8 years later but I really appreciate all the video's you have created and kept up for us over the years. God Bless
I just found your channel and enjoy your videos. Here in Arizona the water is very hard, I have been using a Big Berkey for a couple years now. We have municipal water, so we use the extra add on filters that remove chlorine. In the bottom already filtered water I added five .999 silver coins. Silver is a natural disinfectant. When the settlers headed out west in covered wagons, many would just use silver coins in their drinking water. Keep up the great work!!!
The silver coins link to colloidal silver... the silver edge online has information and you can buy a generator that will make the silver water - great for infections or flu etc.
It can be silver dollars, but in general, 90 percent silvers were made to 1965 only and before. However, silver is considered a heavy metal, I wouldnt want to drink silverish water for an extended period of time. Its prolly ok for short term needs.
I'm soooo excited about this!! I just went to Berkey site today and EVERY FILTER system is wold out Covid Virus lockdown! Thank you so much, I don't have any of those cutters but will. I can do this. I'm 65 and a widow and want good water. You made my day! Thanks.
I always wondered about just buying the filters and doing something similar like you said you can use anything. Those pots you bought look like they will last as long as you need them too. Nice Facebook page too! Thanks for sharing! The fish have been biting here and its in the 80's, good time to live on the mighty Mississippi.
Hi I'm from Puerto Rico, south of Florida and I thought your video was awesome, I subscribed so please keep those videos coming. 😁 and thank you for taking the time to teach us a couple of things 👍
After removing the lid handle I noticed the holes were spaced far enough apart for the filters side by side. Set the lid on the bottom of the pot and drill matching holes. Enlarge holes to fit filters and tighten pot to lid with filter stubs. No need to cut lid and affix to pot. Hope this helps🤔
As homesteading has becoming more popular, you are definitely one of the originals. Humility has unfortunately become a lost trait in our culture. Thank you my friend.
Wow hearing you not ask for donations is a refreshing change. You sir have gained a new sub just for that fact, & I did enjoy your diy water filter build. Thank you.
I enjoy watching... it looks like you have peace in your life.. I congratulate you.. The info you share is great.. I am of same mind.. I do not have alot of money so I make it all count..I do not waste and I use my mind..so thank you for sharing and keep em coming.. thank you Dave
Loved this video. Was looking into Reverse Osmosis, but $1,250.00 was way to much for just under the kitchen sink. Then I watched several videos on the Berkey. Then up yours popped and I said, why not. You saved me $1,100.00 today! Thank you so much!!!
Thumbs up for sure. I have a Berkey and I love it, but I will be making this one too. I need 3 of them, so this is going to really save me a lot of money, and since mine is not the stainless steel model, I can't wait to use this one too. I sent my son to your channel a while back, and he subbed you right away, and for him, that is really unusual! I will go to facebook now, and tell my family about you. Can't wait to see you hit your goal. Bless, Sheila
Sheila6325 Thank you for your assistance Sheila. I've got a longs ways to go to reach my goal but I'll get there. I'm loving this purifier and wish I built it a long time ago. God Bless.
I love your videos. I watch them each time you post a new video. You are so lucky to be able to live at your cabins.I just love FRANKIE .KEEP the videos coming i look forward to watching them.BE safe .
Sure glad that I came across your channel! I will be tuning in regularly and recommend to friends as I do a couple of my other favorites. Thanks for your efforts and God Bless!
Tommy at Carolina Prepper sent me here to see your instructions for the stainless steel water filtration system and I am so glad that he did! Many thanks! I am subscribing to your channel!
Loved this idea & the video. I'm now a subscriber so I have a hint to save even more & also filter out fluoride. Instead of the pricey Berkey filters, use a Doulton which also filters out fluoride. As for any water from outside, I would strain first & then distill or boil it. None of these devices kill all viruses & parasites.
Ms Pat, I second this. The Doulton ceramic filters are the originals, dating back nearly two hundred years. The Berkeys are knock offs with questionable testing creds, a tendency to break off at the stem, and greater maintenance requirements. On the other hand, the Doultons proved their effectiveness during a Cholera epidemic, are not at all prone to breakage, and don’t wear out. They offer the dependability that one would want for boondocking.
Hi - went to Walmart. Got the pots. Drilled the holes. Bought the filters. Bought a stainless spout. Instead of the double sided tape I used food-grade clear silicone to make the connection and seal! Thanks for the idea! Saved a bundle making my own!
If you were dealing with a "swamp water" situation would you recommend some crude preliminary filtering before running it thru your precious Berkey filters? How long will these filters last? Thanks for this video. So simple and elegant I think I can do it?
How about a 3rd pot on the top with a bunch of holes or even use a deep cullinder, take an old pillow case and cut it so its only around 7 inches place in in the new pot and fill with clean sand, change the sand every month or so.
You are a Genius! I made one years ago with food safe 5 gal buckets but after a while the top bucket started curroding. Stainless Steel is the perfect medium! Thank you!!!!!
When I was stationed in Korea I had to live off base and could not drink the local water. On a buck sergeants pay I would not have been able to buy a high priced filter if they'd had them. I know a lot of GI's watch your channel and you just gave them a affordable way to have clean water to drink!!! You have a gift at ways to cut costs and a better gift at sharing them! I count my blessings that your voice drew me in to watch trapping so I'd benefit from all your common sense ideas and wealth of information. Thanks JC!! Pat Frankie on the head for me :)))
Melody Capehart Medina Thank you fro your kind words Melody, I always enjoy hearing from you. Stretching my dollars allows me to splurge on a few things like over priced waffle irons :-) I have to stay off ebay lol.Hey how did your iron turn out?
thebossoftheswamp The iron was so perfect to start with all it needed was a few coats of lard (ha ha yes I still use lard) and it sparkled better than a diamond!! I got a call from my son's little better half and she LOVED your Dill Dip! She made it with Greek yogurt and served with fresh veggies at a family function and it was a huge hit. You have a wonderful weekend, I'm going to Canton Trade Days to look for a new rooster. Mine decided he was going to rule the roost so we had chicken and dumplins last week, enjoyed him much better on the dinner table :))))
l have the Big Berkey which l love and use everyday! However, after viewing this, I've decided to make some of these for family members to utilize now, and for Sh*f water situations! Thanks! New Subscriber here!
Was just looking at the Berkey filters, they're good for 6000 gallons. If you want to filter out fluoride and arsenic (if you're filtering any municipal water) then you have to add the white filters in the bottom section. Should be easy to do since you've already shown how easy it is to make the setup. If you seal it with silicone as some have suggested then you might need an air hole to keep the water flowing as a tight seal will create a vacuum and the water will stop flowing. Thanks, from New Hampshire!
As a heads up, the stainless steel pots are also bacterial resistant as germs don't like to multiply on stainless steel surfaces, that's why it's used in private and professional kitchens. :)
@@satatik21 why would you want copper or brass? Both copper and brass will corrode and break down over time. They use copper and brass in plumbing because it is cheaper and easier to work with than stainless, but they are not better. Stainless is far safer and more durable. And stainless is also much easier to clean.
@@shellydowns4083 I wouldn't think that the break down of copper would be an issue regarding this vid. Does copper or brass have any beneficial effects regarding being resistance to bacteria?
Awesome. When you commented on how much of that crud you have consumed in your years of drinking the local water reminded me of a water purification manufacturers catch phrase - BUY a filter or BE a filter.
Very cool and a simple set up too, thanks for sharing this project! I just picked up 2 sawyer mini water filters, they are a super cool filter that is good for 100,000 gallons and they are only $20, if you ever need one to go in your pocket for when you are in the woods, it's a good one....atb to you Boss
backyardmeat Oh yes thanks for the heads up on the mini water filters. We dont f ilter our spring water that comes out of our mountain. Not growing a third eye yet! But may have to look into these
FYI: The Sawyer mini is a 'filter' - it doesn't take out chemicals. The Berkey filter is a 'water purifier' - it takes out chemicals and everything the Sawyer mini filters out.
I can tell you this, you should invest in the spigot with the site glass on the upper side of it it is a great convenience knowing how much water is in the bucket without having to lift it. I’m going to make one of these for my kids
Thank you so much for the video I have been getting a headache from working out what system I can afford. I have looked at distilling, reverse osmosis, terracotta with colloidal silver filters NOT available in Canada. So I am considering this now but I might add another stainless steel pot with volcanic mineral rock at the bottom to make the water more alkaline and add other minerals.
Another great video JC! No doubt clean drinking water is critical. We (my wife, son Jonah & friend Joe) always look forward to your videos. I simply can't say thank you enough your videos are not only very enjoyable, but meaningful and your compassion truly shows. We are very grateful for what you do with your channel.... I guess for us it just makes the day a little more special and we all could sure use many more folks like you. God Bless You!
Genius, JC. I bought the Berkey unit about 2 yrs ago and love it. I wish I had he vision to build one like you. BTW, a lot of people have had problems with the glue on the black filters and the ceramic could separate from the base. I followed the advice of many online and bought white replacement ceramic filters from another company for less than $50. Based on reviews and testing, they are supposed to be as good and half the price. As always, we enjoy your videos and your take on things.
I looked up my purchase order for the filters. I bought them on Amazon. Doulton 10" super sterasyl ceramic gravity filter candle w9121715/w9121709. I bought them June 2014 from Clean Air Supply (seller). Two filters for $42.22 and free shipping. Hope this helps.
Hey JC > How did you know we were talking about the spring we have on our cabin site? Planning on drilling a deep well for the cabin, however, there should be PLAN B in place. If the power fails >I want a deep well hand pump and a way to filter the water from the stream. Since there is abundant wildlife in this part of New Hampshire, that stream water should be made safe for human consumption. Thank you for this video. Your viewers are fortunate to have you as a source for reliable BACK WOODS LOGIC !
diane hall I been wanting a water purifier for a long time. So nice to finally have one. Wish I built it sooner. Other filters have been recommended so I will be looking into other sources to see what is available. All the best to you my friend.
HELLO thebossoftheswamp :-D Nice to meet you :-D You are one clever fox, eh? I LOVE your way of thinking!!! When my friends tell me about healthful drinks like kombucha & kefir, the first thing I ask them is: *how much did that cost?* When they tell me ... I GASP, and think: *I bet I could make that at home for a fraction of the cost!* And, indeed, I have done so. I feel SO BLESSED that I have run across your channel. I have been eyeing the Berkey water filtration system for quite some time, but, thought it was quite extravagant, and was trying to make my own, but, failed. YOU, SIR... are not only a GENIUS, you have saved me a boatload of money!!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH for sharing your knowledge! liked & subbed. I hope you meet your goal in life. I see this was posted April 28th, 2015, nearly two years ago. Have you met your goal yet? Have you sold your property yet?
I enjoyed about the Tin Snips Tip, the Color of the handles and there direction of use. I envy you being out in the Country away from all the hustle and bustle. Thank You and God Bless Sir!
Love the filter! When we moved up here the mountains we drank water directly from our spring. Visitors were getting nervous since they told us it might not be the best idea to do this. So we too started thinking about a filtration system that would be inexpensive. BUT the berkley filters were out of our price range. Anyway we never did do anything about filtering it because of the flow from the mountain filters it and we are blessed with pure spring mountain water. But heck, this is just a great idea! Where does your water source come from that you have Lime?? Just curious. And how do you get it into the house being off grid? We have gravity feed and finally got a pressure tank that runs off of solar. Thanks for another great video!
Starry Hilder My homestead is on the grid. I did it this way for the resale value and have a well here. At the NH cabin, I carry my water in with buckets from an old well that was dug by settlers in the 1700's. That water is awesome. My well water at the homestead sucks, which you can see from the reside in the pot. I'm not even going to bother adding the spigot. I'm just duping it into a pitcher for easy serving.
Hey JC we had a water crisis here where i live in Toledo last summer. Not only could you not drink the water but you could not boil it either because it made the toxins in the water worse. Within 6 hrs of the news getting out you could not buy any bottled water within a 60 mile radius. People began hoarding water immediately.Luckily it only lasted a few days or it could have gotten really ugly. Thanks again for the great video and advice , you're friend Greg.
other vids trash the berkey filters for their glued on mounting piece coming loose over time. Listen for dripping water flow. If it starts filtering faster, the filter could be failing. otherwise great vid swampboss!!
Chhman Sukhna try Ulster County. There’s always planning commissions etc n biggest issues seem to be regarding digging wells etc, but I do believe there are property tax rebates of 30% bc that area (Catskills) provides drinking water for NYC- best water in the country.
Good stuff, Boss. My Dad lives in the UP and is using a hoop greenhouse that you showed us. I told him about the video and he made his this year. Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful hints and instruction. Several kitties owe their lives to you and your catch pole video as well. Thanks again.
Brian Foley Happy to hear you're finding my videos beneficial. I always enjoy hearing stuff like that. My beans and beets have emerged and are doing well in the hoop house. So glad I built that. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Love the Channel. I live in the wilderness in Canada. We have a great Micro-Brewery in the closest town. Want to send you some amazing dark ale. Where should I send it too?
Boss, I have been watching your channel for a few months and really have enjoyed them all. I watched the rocket stove videos with my 15 year old son and he now wants to build one just like it. This latest on a water filter is exactly what I want to do at my cabin remodel project. I look forward to watching more.
I was recently recommended the Berkey filter system and while shopping for a competitive price, I happened upon your video. I'm now a subscriber not only to your channel, but to your recommendation of the "make your own Berkey" system. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
I built the water filter but with a twist.I took an old telephone table(remember when the phone sat on these and there was pencil and paper next to it)and modified it.The filter sits on top and I hooked the outlets to a Y with some tubing with a valve. This makes it easier to draw exact amounts of water, from 1 cup to a carboy.
Boss, I checked out your FACEBOOK page and it was great. It allowed me to see even more of your new cabin and how it was built. I have set a goal to follow in your foot steps and build a small cabin. I appreciate you responding to us but I am sure that one day that you will find that you have so many viewers that it will no longer be possible. Your videos are a great resource and a gift to us all. Thank you.
Luke Hereiam Thanks Luke. Yes, a time will come where I won't be able to respond as often as I presently do. I want to start a blog soon so I'll need to leave myself time for that. I do what I can though. Thanks for commenting.
When I asked, the company said not to put them in the fridge because the coldness from the stainless steel can harm the filters. Just thought you might want to know.
The boiling water demonstration was awesome!
Found Berkey plastic system at a garage sale never opened for only five dollars. Blessed beyond measure

I have been on a Boss of the Swamp marathon and I love it!!!
+Linda's Pantry you are great too linda
+Linda's Pantry There was a time I was on a Linda's Pantry' marathon!
is this water county water, well water or surface water?
me too, I have been finishing up my vacation before going to work again tomorrow by watching boss for hours
It's always fun to go on a Linda's Pantry marathon, too!
Never knew that about snips, thanks for that.
Me neither. Wow, took me 60 years to yearn that! Lol

I had lots of little forts built when i was a kid. Treasured memories for sure :-)
Honestly didn't expect to like your version of a homemade berkey filter, but I absolutely LOVED IT!!! Thank you!!
I PRAISE GOD for people with hearts and minds like yours... TRUST ME you’re FAR RICHER THAN ANY MAN IN A CITY NEVER CHANGE LOVE IT 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎
Thank you kindly :-))
Not sure you considered this but I would have used food grade Silicone Rubber as an adhesive between the bottom lid and top container. Very good point.
I had a Berkey,it leaked like a sieve around the connection of the two fill tanks..the filters finally failed after about 2years ( I have no idea how many gallons we put through it) the wife said she didn't want to spend the $$$ for new filters...so out it went.

To those replying, the water never touches those strips that hold the lid to bottom of pot.
Thank you.
loved the opening for this video when you hold up the drill.....so playful and funny. clear instructions and perfectly paced video. thank you
I just finished my first Berkey water filtration system! Works great and plan on making more for family and friends. I would recommend that all of you try this, fresh water is important!
Mann are you loving in life. It felt like I was listening to a bedside story. So relaxing made me feel as if I was there. Thank you for welcoming us into your home.
That boiling tap water demonstration was amazing.
I did the same thing with a couple of improvements one is you get the taller stock pot for the bottom vessel which means you never have to worry about spillage between the two vessels we also use the white filters below the black charcoal filters to filter out excess fluoride and I used stainless steel Nuts and Bolts to tie the top vessel to the bottom lid with neoprene washers

Mike Rilling can You please make a video with how you made exactly what you’re talking about
Hello from Delaware Boss. I saw the Berkey assembly on their website and immediately started researching building my own and I'm glad I saw your video. What a time saver your video will be for me. God Bless.
Thank you so much for making your videos. Our whole family loves watching them. You have in some ways become part of the family lol.
Thank you for the the tip on the snips had no clue.
I've wanted a Berkley to go camping for a long time. I couldn't justify the price. Thanks to you I am making a Boss of the Swamp water purifier. So simple, I am kicking myself. Thanks so much!
sandygap1 I've wanted one for a long time too. So glad I built it. What a difference in my water!!!!
Thank you.
I've heard that but haven't had any problems with them yet.
Manda ... Doesn't matter know. Berkey sold out completely. So, unless you find someone selling some they have on hand, you have no worries.
What a nice guy. We need way more guys like this in America. Thanks for sharing.
ordered my Berkey filters last week....got my 16 qt stock pots today.....gonna take a stab at making this....thanks for the video!!!!
Good luck with your project :-)
Hi! Just seeing if you made the 16 qt and if you are still using it and still like it. Thanks!
Great Video! I just built my daughter a Stainless Steel Berkey Water Purifier. She is very happy. Thanks to you, I look like a super hero mom that can do anything.
That's awesome. Glad you found my video beneficial :-)
God Bless!
Thank you for your kind words Mark. All the best to you and God Bless.

Great idea.
What size drill bit is needed to make the hole for the spigot? Will a set that has the 1/2" bit be big enough?
Buster Brown I use the Berkey post filters because there is Arsenic in our well water.
@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 That's cheap for a Berkey filter.
YOUR A GUY AFTER MY OWN HEART, I LOVE YOU AMERICANS LIKE YOU AND WHEN THE CHIT HITS THE FAN I HOPE I MEET YOU BUT HIGHLY UNLIKELY. GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND
I HAVE DONE YOUR WISH!

Seeing as you are using a stock pot you could use a real brass or stainless water spigot and get way better flow. That berkey spigot takes forever to fill up a pitcher. Cheers
Si senor
By definition, brass has lead in it.
@@johnwang9914 Not anymore. Plumbing material has been lead free for a number of years now
Are they any brass spigots in the USA?
@@RickyBobby_USA there are I'm a plumber
Boss been watching your videos for over a year now and I loved everyone of them. I build my cabin last year and got two more years to get some stuff paid for, then it's off to the cabin full time. You have inspired my life ole man.
Ed Kirkpatrick Happy to hear that. Best of luck with your venture.
Thank you for your videos on this build. We finished building ours last night!
We used a 10in sight glass spigot, which is a little tall for the 16qt Walmart stockpots, but it does not look bad at all.
Thank you so much ,I’m 80 years old an seen you video and had my son build your water system,I’m so thankful to have good water to drink.
You are so welcome :-)
Just another great and informative video .
Nothing more valuable than clean water !
Thanks JC
goose2die4 Thank you my friend.
Thank You, I knew I saw this before. My wife asked me about a Water Purifier today and I remembered you had made one. It's only 8 years later but I really appreciate all the video's you have created and kept up for us over the years. God Bless
Glad I could help!
+Pat Kaiser Never heard that about the silver coins. Interesting news for sure and thanks for sharing. Cheers :-)
The silver coins link to colloidal silver... the silver edge online has information and you can buy a generator that will make the silver water - great for infections or flu etc.
Pat Kaiser do you know off hand what year silver coins were made? Would that be silver dollars?
It can be silver dollars, but in general, 90 percent silvers were made to 1965 only and before. However, silver is considered a heavy metal, I wouldnt want to drink silverish water for an extended period of time. Its prolly ok for short term needs.
I'm soooo excited about this!! I just went to Berkey site today and EVERY FILTER system is wold out Covid Virus lockdown! Thank you so much, I don't have any of those cutters but will. I can do this. I'm 65 and a widow and want good water. You made my day! Thanks.
that was an eye opening experiment with the boiled water from the berky pot
That's for sure. Love this water filter.
Thanks for educating us by demonstrating and talking us through this life saving project.
You're welcome ;-)
I want to make us one of these. I've seen the 5 gallon bucket one but like you I don't like the plastic, I like this stainless one!!! Looks nice to!
I don't like plastic either.
Wow!!! Got to build one of these and the rocket stove!!!! Thanks and for tip about nippers too!!!!
Have fun with your projects :-)
I put the playlist on before bedtime. I watch and eventually falls asleep due to the relaxing energy you project in your videos.
Thank you for saying so :-)

Can't argue with back woods logic. I have been wanting a water filtration system for some time and this project will make it doable. Thanks.
tfr51 I been wanting one too. Now I wish I had built it sooner after seeing all the crap I been drinking :-(
GREAT IDEA AND SAVED A $100. I WILL BE ORDERING MY BERKLEY FILTERS REAL SOON.

Tommy at Carolina Prepper sent me here to see your instructions for the stainless steel water filtration system and I am so glad that he did! Many thanks! I am subscribing to your channel!
+Nifty Thrifty Bits Welcome to my channel and thank you for subbing.
Yes indeed and hopefully it'll never come to that. You can see the specs for the filters here amzn.to/3aUvkbS
@Jose Raul Miguens Cruz thank you. I'm planning on a van life and that is useful info for the road
Glad I could help!
Melody Capehart Medina HA!!! That's what we get for "ruling the roost" lol. Been there, done that, there's goes the dumplings ha ha
Thank you for this video! I just spent a wonderful morning with my amazing 83 year old Father building this! You rock! And my Father does, too!
Kitty VanDuser That's awesome Kitty. I wish my dad was still around to build things with me. Enjoy him while you can my friend.
l have the Big Berkey which l love and use everyday!
Good stuff to know. Thanks.
Ur welcome, and thank you for your videos, I just finished watching the "any and mice, PBR's," a wealth of information...
Much appreciated. :)
This is totally false information. If you really want this effect, use copper or brass.
+Douglas Owen That's a great phrase for sure.
Very cool and a simple set up too, thanks for sharing this project! I just picked up 2 sawyer mini water filters, they are a super cool filter that is good for 100,000 gallons and they are only $20, if you ever need one to go in your pocket for when you are in the woods, it's a good one....atb to you Boss
backyardmeat I need to look into those as other have suggested them as well. Thanks buddy.
backyardmeat Oh yes thanks for the heads up on the mini water filters.
This filter works great. Interesting concept regarding the rock.
I watch the videos every night now instead of tv .Educational and their good as a stress reliever !!!
Thank you for saying so :-)
Thanks for the berkey water purifier, I've been looking for a cheaper solution. Subbed in case you have something else I could use !!!
Carolina Prepper Thanks for the heads up. I'd love some info on these other filters. Thanks.
I was thinking of doing the very same thing, thanks for the tutorial!
I haven't put the property on the market yet but I'll reach all my goals Kathleen. I'm determined like that :-))
I think your videos are great!
illiniguy4 Thank you kindly.

@@maeborromeo7269 what?
Hey JC we had a water crisis here where i live in Toledo last summer. Not only could you not drink the water but you could not boil it either because it made the toxins in the water worse. Within 6 hrs of the news getting out you could not buy any bottled water within a 60 mile radius. People began hoarding water immediately.Luckily it only lasted a few days or it could have gotten really ugly. Thanks again for the great video and advice , you're friend Greg.
Greg Glasser Picture a situation like that where it last a month or more. Things could get crazy awful fast.
Headed to WalMart right now! Thank you!
Boss, saw this years ago. Now want a Berkey and remembered this video. Thanks for sharing.
other vids trash the berkey filters for their glued on mounting piece coming loose over time. Listen for dripping water flow. If it starts filtering faster, the filter could be failing. otherwise great vid swampboss!!
I've had no trouble with my filters so far :-))
Excellant teaching presentation. Clear instruction, good pictures, slow enough to absorb info.
Glad it was helpful. Thank you :-)
Where in NY can you build cabins without permit problem?. Thank you
Nowhere.
Chhman Sukhna try Ulster County. There’s always planning commissions etc n biggest issues seem to be regarding digging wells etc, but I do believe there are property tax rebates of 30% bc that area (Catskills) provides drinking water for NYC- best water in the country.
Thank you maam
Good stuff, Boss. My Dad lives in the UP and is using a hoop greenhouse that you showed us. I told him about the video and he made his this year. Just wanted to say thanks for all the helpful hints and instruction. Several kitties owe their lives to you and your catch pole video as well. Thanks again.
Brian Foley Happy to hear you're finding my videos beneficial. I always enjoy hearing stuff like that. My beans and beets have emerged and are doing well in the hoop house. So glad I built that. Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Chris Hawkesford "Amazing dark ale" sounds great. Thank you my friend.I'll send you a pm with my address. Thanks again.
2 5 gallon buckets work also. the bottom bucket can keep the lid secured and only needs a hole big enough for the filter to drain through...
how does it work with the viruses etc
I suggest looking up the spec from the manufacturer of the filters.
Boss, I have been watching your channel for a few months and really have enjoyed them all. I watched the rocket stove videos with my 15 year old son and he now wants to build one just like it. I was recently recommended the Berkey filter system and while shopping for a competitive price, I happened upon your video. I'm now a subscriber not only to your channel, but to your recommendation of the "make your own Berkey" system. Thanks for sharing. God bless.
what size drill bit did you use for the holes for the filters??
I don't remember exactly but it's just slightly larger than the threads on the filter.
Nice setup :-)
That's easy. Sorry Berkey. I'll just take the filters! Thanks
Boss,
I checked out your FACEBOOK page and it was great.
