  • The first IMSA event in 2024 is complete! A lot happened at this years Rolex 24, including the introduction of the new Ford Mustang, a fantastic battle in LMP2 for the lead, the competitive GTP cars, the crash involving the leader in GTD Pro, the confusing finish, and of course the race long overall lead battle that was decide in the final 30 minutes between GTP manufacturers Porsche and Cadillac.

    great review of the rolex 23:58. The massive weight increase of 42kg slowed the acura's down despite having a increase in power.

      Peacock was streaming the entire race in the US, but with commercials. However the best way to enjoy the race in its entirety is obviously to be there in person.

    Connor Zilisch impressed me at the Rolex 24. He won at 17 years old. And it’s not like he was carried either. It’s worth noting that the 62 Ferrari won the Rolex 24 at Daytona 10 years after its GTLM predecessor had that massive crash. Actually, no. The 488 is the 458’s predecessor and the 488’s successor is the 296

    Good recap but the final lead change in the pits needs more context. Blomqvist's brilliant pass on Nasr happened during the second-to-last pit cycle when Nasr went 3 laps longer. Blomqvist was able to undercut as we saw. But the other shoe dropped on the final pit stop since Porsche could do a shorter fill, gaining them track position and ultimately the win.

      Yeah that pit stop was awesome! When I covered it in my “How Porsche won Daytona” video, I realized how good Penske was at doing that, and it was a good reminder that this is a team sport. Porsche Penske Motorsport won as a team that day!

    14:35: It was actually Era's second Rolex 24 win. They won the class in 2021 with 2024 drivers Merriman and Dalziel along with team owner Kyle Tilley and Paul Loup Chatin. Dalziel usually closes the race but he said he was fine with the team having their "young guns" Rasmussen and Zilisch take the car to the finish. Those guys are fast!!

    It was our first time in Daytona. The race was as good as a F1 race, if not even more interesting as there are different classes. The final hours were nail-butting as both car 31 and 7 were so close. But the best car sound was Cadillac undoubtedly 👌

    I wouldn't say that Nasr "miraculously" was able to fend off that Whelen Cadillac. It takes away from the tremendous skill both he and Matt Campbell showed, but also the 963 has proven to have better pace than the Cadillacs overall. In the WEC Porsches usually finish ahead of Cadillacs in almost every race. I'd say these two are pretty even. Regardless, it is true that both are tremendous racing machines. I'm hoping for a better season from both in the WEC this year. It is time to take the reins back from Toyota.

      Glad you enjoyed the video! Yes, there was a mistake at IMSA with the race timing. I don’t think it would’ve changed much for the overall lead, but it was definitely confusing 😅

    both cadillac and porshe improved a lot taking part in both wec and imsa, no surprise as it provides more data and tests, bmw and acura could have a really bad 2024 season, specialy acura

    Great coverage but more should be said about the charge of the Winward racing AMG,GT3 from P18 to win the GTD class. That was quite a drive. Or conquest racing in GTD coming to Daytona on its first attempt and getting a P3 including the terrific performance of F.I.A. Silver rated driver Manny Franco who never even saw a track before 2020.

  • @WyldStallion-bs9oo
    @WyldStallion-bs9oo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    GTD really was a proper endurance race. The Risi Ferrari won as the last car standing. Won by a lap and half which is huge for the 2020s. The days of cars winning by 24 laps are over.

    I hope IMSA will fix the finish procedure so we dont have to go through that again in the future. Imo Porsche would have won anyways after the big gap at the last lap.

    Question: why were there no Audi Teams in the race?

  • @WyldStallion-bs9oo
    @WyldStallion-bs9oo 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I wish the #33 Ligier was not in the field. That car caused 3 safety cars in the first half of the race for stalling on track. I dont agree with the last yellow with the Lexus fire on the pit lane. If its off the race track, keep them green.

    • @williamford9564
      @williamford9564 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I heard that it was a 3 year old car with parts on it that had not been replaced, possibly because with no one in any series running Ligiers, there was no spare parts inventory at the factory. The team also was not familiar with the car so troubleshooting during the race ( in finding exactly what the problem was, as compared to make a guess, send the car back out and hope for the best).
      On the Lexus yellow, they have to throw a yellow so safety vehicles and a medical ambulance can get to the scene safely without the danger from race cars running full speed in the vicinity.

    To be honest GTD was a kind of a big mess.
    The #60 iron lynx and #75 sun energy retired and I still have no clue what happened to these team and when they retired
    The Aston Martin had a quite difficult race as well with both heart of racing team having issue and never got to the bottom of what happened to the #44 cars
    So sad for both McLaren especially the inception that was running so well and could have easily challenge for the win.
    All of the GTD 992 Porsche seem to have no pace at all. Never saw them in the fight for GTD (rexywas maybe the only one actually fighting in the top position)
    The mustang GT3 were absolutely no where as well for a big portion of the race and it’s kind of sad but I think they will get better
    Also, we have to mention the corvettes which had quite a difficult race with I think only of the 4 actually finishing the race
    Finally, I feel sorry for the gradient Acura. I think they could have finish in top positions with Kat, Sheena and Tatiana
