Same here. I hadn't kept up with NASCAR for about 15 years until last March when I came across a couple clips of the interview he did with DW. Now I watch the race every weekend
Kyle Petty and Dale Jr. give and conduct the best interviews.
Jr and KP are so similar when you think about it, both had grandfathers who were racing legends, both had fathers who are NASCAR icons, both lost a family member in a tragic racing accident
And both never won cup championships
Championships maybe not but they won the hearts of millions & that's better than any championship could come close too . . .

Heck, some drivers that were winless won the hearts of the fans, like J.D McDuffie, God rest his soul.

Ok, here's the deal: Dale Jr is not just a legitimately competent interviewer; he's a damn good one. He asks the right questions, and digs deeper until he's satisfied with the answer, which makes for endlessly compelling personal stories on this podcast. Examples: the real story behind Ricky Rudds falling out with Dale Sr and a fascinating account of how Kyle Pettys dad forced him to work in the shop for years before he could get out on the track in his own car.
Keep up the good work, Dale. Love the podcast.
Cuz he asks about the same things he wonders about rather than getting scripted questions from the CIA every morning at 4am like everyone else on TV.

He & ALL the other drivers had every right to be very concerned about Ms Janet racing against them on a big-very fast racetrack.
Also, as I recall it was Richard (Not Kyle) that made the comment about Danica at an event in Canada. The problem with your complaint there is he spoke the honest truth concerning Ms Patrick & if the truth offends you 🤷🏻♂️

I have pictures of Kyle Petty on his Dad's lap holding the 1971 Daytona 500 Trophy after the "V"ictory at the 13th Daytona 500, sitting in the #43 Petty Blue Plymouth. He was around 10 years old. Ron Grana, ARCA Driver, was my neighbor and invited me to go with his Dad Cy Grana & the B&K Hydraulics 1971 Blue Chevelle #5 "Skeeter VI" to 1971 Speedweeks at Daytona and the ARCA 300 Race. I Met Ramo Stott who was a couple cars down from us in the ARCA garage tent, who was getting some help from Richard Petty so it seemed. Richard came over to talk with Ron & Cy about their performance in the ARCA 300 & the teams qualifying for the previous year 1970 Daytona 500. That year, the Grana Team was running a 1969 Ford Torino #5 painted Blue. They did very well in that car in all of the races they entered and qualified for. Richard asked Ron, "Do you know anybody that could wire up a portable electric welder?" "Ramo's crew needs to use it on their ARCA Car." Ron looked at me and said..."Dave can!" "He's an Electrician!" I was 20 years old at the time and soon to be off to Vietnam in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Petty showed me the welder and I told him what size of wire he needed for the welder. He took off with one Ramo Stott's crew after I had found an Electrical Panel about 100 feet away attached to the cyclone wire fence of the tent garage. I showed Mr. Petty what I had found and that there was a 60Amp / 240V. Double Pole Breaker that was not being used. He smiled and said, "GREAT!" "Will that work?" I said to Mr. Petty, "If you can get me some #6 wire, I'll make it work!" "I'll be right back Dave!" After about 15 minutes, here comes Mr. Petty with a huge cable in #4 Gauge, S.O.W. 3 Conductor Cable over 150 ft. long loaded up a a Taylor Dunn Flat Bed electric truck. He was all smiles as he drove it up to where I was waiting at the electric panel. Then Mr. Petty and a couple of Ramo's Crew, started to uncoil the cable and string it over to the #7 Plymouth ARCA Car, where the welder waited to be energized. I did my part at the electric panel and then went over to finish wiring up the welder. Then Mr. Petty rode back to the electric panel and turned on the circuit breaker. He quickly returned and asked me, "Are we all set Dave?" " Yep!" "Fire it up!" On came the welder and the crew started to weld on the car. All told this took about 45 minutes. Mr. Petty thanked me with a firm handshake and a pat on my shoulder. I said, "Your Welcome Mr. Petty!" I then returned to the Grana Car and started to hand polish the rear deck lid. About 2 hours later, up walks Mr. Petty with Miss Hurst Shifters, Linda Vaughn. He introduced her to Ron, his Dad, Cy Grana and the rest of the team. I was laying low. Then Mr. Petty asks Ron & Cy if he could borrow me again. "I need Dave to escort Linda around the track and she is going to buy him lunch!" Then Mr. Petty comes over to me and introduces me to Miss Hurst. Mr. Petty was all smiles as he studied my reaction. Linda said, "Let's go Dave!" I'm hungry!" Off we went, arm in arm and the rest of the story is history. How I got the never seen photo of Kyle on his Dad's lap in the #43 Plymouth and the other pictures I had taken of Mr. Petty giving me the "V" for Victory Sign inside Victory Lane after he had won the 1971 Daytona 500, with his entire family at his side will be revealed if requested. I soon plan on sending Mr. Kyle Petty, the pictures that I had taken. I pray that he will share them with all of you someday. I will be sending the pictures to Mr Kyle Petty as soon as I can scan them onto a memory stick. This coming February 2021, it will be "50 Years" since I had the honor of helping "The King" and the Ramo Stott Crew with their welder. One last piece of ARCA History. Ramo Stott's #7 Plymouth won the ARCA 300 on February 7, 1971 that year. Ron Grana's #5 Blue 1971 Chevelle, started 22nd and finished 33rd after the radiator hose let loose and the engine blew on lap 15! Then a few days later, on Sunday, Mr. Petty won the 13th Annual Daytona 500 in his #43 Petty Blue Plymouth. I wonder if Mr. Richard Petty will remember the 20 year old kid from Farmington Hills, Michigan who hooked up his welder and then said to him latter that afternoon when he came back by the Grana garage team area, to wish us good luck in the ARCA 300 Race. I said to him, "Good Luck Mr. Petty in Sunday's Daytona 500!" The King then said to me............ "Dave, You can call me Richard!" "You've earned it!" I then replied, "Thank You Mr. Petty!" He laughed and said to me "THANK YOU!" As the King turned to walk away in the ARCA Garage Tent, I then said to him....."Hey Richard!" The King stopped and turned towards me. I held up my right hand giving him the "V" hand sign and said to him as he smiled......."V" for VICTORY IN SUNDAY"S DAYTONA 500!" The King replied as he gave me back the "V"ictory hand sign, "V" for VICTORY DAVE!"............... "I LIKE THAT!!!!!" The rest is History. Hope I did not bore anyone with my story. Today, March 19, 2020, I pray all Americans honor God, Family and Country, in all we do! I am very blessed to have had the opportunity in sharing a moment in time, of my life, with strangers who need a moment to reflect on their lives. Please remember to smile, pray and have faith in these times of uncertainty as AMERICANS who love their Country. God Bless! Dave, The Electrician

I was there with my dad in the grandstands, near the entrance to pit road, the day that Kyle Petty won that Arca race in his white and blue Magnum. I am a huge Petty fan (still am) and was routing for Kyle the whole race. The first time that Kyle came into the pits it also looked like he almost came in too hot entering pit road. It was a surprisingly tight turn given the speeds the drivers had been running. He had a great car, but it was still an enormous challenge and blessing to enter and win his very first race. Great memories! Btw: I was probably in middle school am now in my early 50s, but still remember it well!

You have to love NASCAR History! Thanks, Dale for doing these episodes. I remember as I was growing up and seeing that Petty Blue with STP. If I remember correctly, they only showed maybe 2-3 races on TV, Daytona I believe was one of them. Great getting to hear these stories from these Racers. Thanks, again.

Man , just love these stories. I’m 68 and have been following nascar since Fireball Roberts days . Thanks to Jr and Kyle for this one . I’m sure Kyle could go on for hours with his stories .
I could listen to Kyle all day long when he tells stories of the early racing days. However, this one ended way too soon. He and Jr. have so many wonderful stories and this podcast is the perfect place for them.
Not sure JR meant to do it but yes , this show will do more for NASCAR in the long run that any single person every has in a drivers seat. Its just freakin awesome and anyone that has this in their blood can relate to every one of these interviews...
There are so many differences in drivers but yet when you listen to these and watch the expressions and the laughter you are always reminded of how the same we all are in certain ways...

I met Kyle and his dad in 79 or 80 in Howard's Department Store in Slidell Louisiana just North of New Orleans I was probably 5 & remember it well.
Kyle Petty is a class act. Good job Dale Jr. and crew.
Got away from Nascar, but was a big fan at one time. Was fortunate to meet Dale Jr. at a meet and greet and he was really down to earth. Also saw Kyle at an airport and went to talk to him and get an autograph, he was also really nice. Good memories. These are great interviews!
That was a great story! Can you even imagine what it must have been like to grow up as RP's son and know that one day you WILL get the chance to race these cars? What a great growing up experience.

Besides the stories about your dad, this had to be the most entertaining, funny and amazing story. You just have to love the Petty family and what they have done for the sport.

Off topic but I took a piss with Kyle at Daytona infield during a commercial break for NBC back in 2017 in Jr's last Daytona race. NBC had the Kyle, Dale Jarrett, Krista Voda pre-race show on. I know, cool story bro.

That was one of those moment's, about one of those stories that I enjoyed more than I have words to say.

Side note, my daddy grew up in Charlotte in late 40's & the 50's and can TO THIS DAY, hear THEN see Buck Baker "testing" his car later at night around the neighborhood. My mammaw would stand on the front porch and yell at him, EVERY time he went by.. SO COOL!!!

Aw man, such great stuff. Kyle is another great storyteller, too. Can you imagine growing up working in the Petty Enterprise shop? What an education.
It’s so gratifying to notice , that both Jr. And Kyle don’t have to depend on their Daddies coat tails, both have had great moments and experiences that defines the both of them as NASCAR legends in their own right !

So I was in the stands for the 93 race. Kyle was the fastest car out there.. He could pull out and pass, without help.. For some reason every pit stop he would lose spots.. I later learned his Pit Crew had been compromised by an Alcohol event earlier in the week.. Anyway I saw the 90 car on a collision course with Kyle. If he could have heard me hollering, Slow Down.. He would have surely won his First Daytona 500. Hope there's more with Kyle on NBC.
Your show is like a NASCAR family tree and Historical archive. The I fo and memories are irreplaceable and easy to lose. These will always be around. Thanks Jr.

I can relate to Kyle's first trip around Daytona. My first experience in a race car was at the 1/4 mile clay Brockville Ontario Speedway in the early- to mid-70s. I had won the local soap box derby and one of the prizes was a "lap" around the track with a driver. Pick your favourite and away you go. I ended up on the rear fender tub with a grin so big you could see it in the stands. Everyone else putted around but George Herbison looked over and saw how much fun I was having and opened it up. I don't think we did race speeds, but while everyone else was getting out of their rides, I got 2 laps sideways.

Love the Petty’s. My parents used to take us by the farm (when we’d go to Asheboro to see my Wicker side of the family). No matter who you saw, they we always inviting and polite.
Kyle is great and I love hearing the stories. Would love to hear his take on the I85 bump. Or any stories about old Randolph county.
My boss has a kid that does the Victory Junction camp. He says they are an excellent group, that his son really enjoys the time there and was surprised by the level of care. It is one more great thing about the Petty family.

I started watching Nascar in the 1960s. Classic cars.. More like the actual street cars than now. I had a 1970 Roadrunner and a few turns on the shocks I could lower the drivers side a few inches to make it faster around the track.
As I've aged and Kyle has settled into his role in broadcasting I understand more and more why Benny Parsons hand picked him to fill his spot.
Benny is unreplaceable though cant deny that - He's left a void in the sport along with Dale's death and yes Kyle knows quite a ton about the sport like Junior does

My sister was a deputy in Volusia CO and I spent summers there with her. LEO's were all on duty for the Firecracker 400 so always in the infield. Kyle and I tossed ball when we were kids there.
The pettys are the best people in the world.nothing but respect for richard and his family god bless them all.
I like Kyle's show and I like his way of discussing topics with his guests, BUT, when the two of these guys get together, something happens. Probably not so much for Dale, but definitively for Kyle. Almost his complete guard seems to be gone and he has a charm more than usual. With Dale, the interviews are so full of color and they're fun. I'm typing as I'm listening, and the way the stories are being told, I can picture them, and IMO that is what its about. I really enjoyed this one. Thank you.
Thank you Dale for this show, after you retired I stopped watching nascar, this show just made me start to have interest in racing again.

My dad did the same thing(bought me a motorcycle)but he raced go carts, raced stock cars and my grandfather was a local legend where I grew up (in Woodbridge VA) Grandpa raced late models in the 70's...he raced against,DW,Harry Gant and some other legends in richmond and that area.
Honestly this show made me a nascar fan and racing fan I was never into it b4 and I’m 23 thank dale jr

Wow, Petty and Earnhardt families that truly gave all they had to give. And you can see that they love the sport that gave them their greatest highs and lows.
I remember being 5 or 6 years old hanging onto the rollbar in my uncles laguna S3 dirt track car while he was testing it up and down grandma's driveway. I loved every second of it but boy did my uncle catch hell from grandma! Big Petty fan and this is good stuff!

I was born in forest city north Carolina. My dad had a few used car lots there in the sixtes i was a bout 9 or 10 years old .i remember when the new cars came out every year around September Richard petty would bring his stock car and drive it down main street .i got to ride in it with him sat on passenger side on blanket and rope through town .i was in heaven .been hooked on it every sense never forget it

I was at that race that day. Makes me feel really old. I flew down there for the day ln L.G. Dewitts Beechcraft Baron with Johnny Oakes flying. Frank Wilson and Elsie from Rockingham Speedway and Jack Cousins.
these are awesome! I love seeing the videos of old nascar stories. I don't know if this has been discussed before but it would be awesome to see the whole pod cast in video. Its so entertaining to watch the expressions on the faces as old stories are being told. gives you a great picture of how those stories played out when they happend!
Really cool to see and hear the sons of two of he greatest race car driver talk about personal life stuff of how they were raised and got into racing. Just like normal every day dads raising their kids.
Awesome seeing two out of my three favorite drivers doing this together . If only Dale Sr could have joined them .
