Alex Ross' art is the definitive "live action" adaptations of these characters. His pieces bring these worlds to life in ways that film has yet to achieve and probably never will.

"Should be"? What, you mean how it has traditionally been? I see no "should" there, just a conservative and restrictive mind. It "should" be great, and Ross's art is

I really admire Alex's honesty and down to earthness. Despite the romance of creating fantastical superheroes, he keeps his talk real, but with a great deal of respect and passion. And this quality comes across in his work, which I think is what makes it so endearing

I was awed and privileged to meet Alex on a snowy, late April day in 2019 at the opening of his Marvelocity exhibit in the Bess Bower Dunn Museum of Lake County in Libertyville, IL. By some underserved but welcome stroke of serendipity, my wife's brother married the daughter of one of Alex's favorite teachers from the American Academy of Art in Chicago. Not in this lifetime did I imagine I would meet my favorite artist, and it's still hard to believe my luck in meeting and spending the afternoon with him and many of his friends from the Academy. Alex radiates brilliance, not only in his art, but in his encyclopedic knowledge of the history of comic books and comic book characters. One of the most cherished and memorable days of my 68 years on the planet.
    My bucket list is complete.

Kingdom come absolutely changed me. As a Superman aficionado this moved me into another reality. This is my favorite version of Kal El and for me the most relatable. From the different "S" symbol to the older disillusioned graying Superman. I even love how you give us a glimpse of him in the far future looking like a very old saint nick ( to me) Mister Ross you are the Monet of this art form. Im a 56 year old man and one of my goals is to have an original Alex Ross Kingdom come Superman hanging in my yet to be purchased home in my not yet decorated man cave

Alex , Thank You so much for making this video , I know what you mean , some of the comics that you had when you were a kid , hold a special place in your heart , kind of chiseled in your soul , some corny shit there .. lol.. But it's true . Your age determines the eras of comics that you were exposed to , I was born in 65 , so I was collecting Marvel comics since 1972 to 1995-ish ..Do you remember seeing the all the Marvel Treasury Editions for the first time ,( # 9 , Giant superhero team-up, my favorite ), or the 1960's Marvel cartoons .. ( Cap, Hulk , Iron man, Namor , Thor ).. sad animation , but I still loved them & I had no idea at the time that they were based on the old comics . Cool surprise for later., I remember getting " Bring on the Bad Guys " for Christmas , I love all those old B&W mags , Savage Sword , Monsters Unleashed, Deadly Hands of Kung Fu , Vampire Tales , Tales of the Zombie,.. etc..etc..those old Rampaging Hulk magazines , the two issues vs Namor .. very cool , + Jim Starlin sneaking in some cool covers as well . , Alex .. you should maybe revisit the old Savage Tales & Kull & the Barbarians B&W magazines , good inspirational content in those mags ( actually , not too many issues as well ) . I'm sure you're a fan of Frank Frazetta as well , nothing wrong with looking at his art books once in a while . If I was the " Boss " , I would want Alex Ross to do reproductions of some old covers , not just the famous ones but " kick ass " covers , for example .... Giant Size Man-Thing # 1 , ( Mike Ploog) , Amazing Spider-Man # 129, ( 1st app. of the Punisher ) , John Buscema's Silver Surfer #4 & # 14 ( Thor , Spider-Man ).Werewolf by Night , The living Mummy , Kull , Killraven , Deathlok , Jungle Action, .. I'm sorry ... I can go on & on .. but I think I already have ...lol

The parts about working as an artist and combating burnout are words of wisdom worth listening to. I know what Alex talks about on a personal level and actually switched a career in commercial art into something else just to save my love for drawing and painting. Deadlines and "the trenches work" you deed to do can kill your enjoyment so you need to be sure you want art to be your job and not just a fond hobby. I'm happy "just" panting in my free time. :-)

Mr. Ross - if you see this...I wondered about your reference to Norman Rockwell's drawing/painting of Samson. Am sure you know this by now but if by chance not. I found it was part of a project where the artists at the 'Famous Artists School Correspondence course made their interpretation of Samson & Delilah. This was done in 1949 and it was tied to Cecil B deMille's film of the same name in production at Paramount Studios. Rockwell's model was Victor Mature, who starred as Samson. Just a FYI. All my best! (Really liked you were a 'MONKEES' fan as a kid - as was I. lol).

Initially when all this change started with the shutdown nothing in my life was
    00:39
changed. I was working exactly the same way, the only thing I chose to do
    00:42
differently is when I would shoot photo reference to build my illustrations upon
    00:46
I was now printing them in the house. I had projects that were coming to a
    00:51
close, I was finishing covers for a couple different series that were
    00:55
wrapping themselves up in the same time period and then I was being told "hey,
    01:00
these are a couple of things you have as projects that are being put on hold," so I
    01:05
had my workload go from what felt like way too much every month to now
    01:11
literally one week's worth of work each month. And so I've taken my privilege to
    01:18
be able to really focus then on things I've wanted to do for a long time. I
    01:22
