Wow, for some reason I thought Alex Ross was an old man. He’s only 54?! At 29 seeing his paintings my whole life I’m shocked the legendary ALEX ROSS is younger than my dad.
I might be wrong, but I think he was doing the NOW Comics Terminator stuff when he was like 19 or 20. Joe Jusko got started super young, too--like high school.
You guys need to start making a downloadable "Please excuse ______ _________ from doing anything productive on ______ for an hour and a half due to us dropping yet another must-see interview." Then it would have your signatures at the bottom. This would hold the same weight as a doctor's excuse for missing work.
Ross is a genius. And listening to his thought process helps reveal why. Creating his own sculptured figures to draw from is brilliant, especially when one realizes that he must then extrapolate from the 3D models to create a variety of human expressions which are consistent to the figure. But that aspect can only be imagined as it would be impractical to create a hundred different physical models to capture a range of emotions. When someone of such skill is also humble and witty it’s easy to wish them continued success.
First piece of Alex Ross art that ever made me sit up and go 'Damn' was the cover he painted for the Death of Superman novelization, PRE-Marvels. His style still hadn't quite formed! Second piece was that painted cover of long-haired Superman standing back-to-back with Keaton-looking Batman for the Wizard "Zero Hour" insert. No real point, just need to feel cooler than anyone else sharing the first Ross art they saw.
What a legend! Not only is he one of the greatest superhero artists ever but he can also nail the stories. His "Justice" series (with collaboration from Jim Krueger and Doug Braithwaite), is one of the best Justice League stories ever.
I feel like his mom's artwork might get the kayfabe effect. I hope you guys can get him back to go through 'Fantastic Four: Full Circle'. So awesome!!!🤟
There has never been a person who looked less like what I thought than Alex Ross. Every time I see him, I'm confused that he looks like John Carroll Lynch and not Odin or Zeus.
Yes please on that Fantastic Four Artists Edition! Maybe I’m the only one but I’d kill for an edition that’s just the line art. Also, somebody should tell Old School Uncle Alex he doesn’t need to use cameras with film anymore to take pictures of those sweet models he’s making! 😃🥁
You’re really stepping up your game in 2024. I mean Alex Freakin’ Ross! Great interview. The preliminary work he does before he starts to paint is remarkable. The guy is phenomenal. The channel is truly becoming the go-to place for those who love the art form.
My friend bought kingdom come pages back in the day. The original images blow away the printed work. I was fortunate to be gifted the batwoman and ace sketch published in the deluxe edition. Alex Ross is amazing.
What a cool guy and interview. This episode dropped last night and was an immediate watch/listen. Finished it up this morning. Thanks Alex, Ed, and Jim!
Great show...incredible and engaging interview. About his mom, Trina Robbins writes about paper dolls in her books on women superheroes, women artists etc.
You guys are getting all my heroes, I wondered when you'd get to Alex Ross, and it was worth the wait. Please get him as a returning guest, the Geoff Darrow/Alex Ross/Bill Sienkiewicz team up would be incredible. (You could even throw in David Choe just for the chaos)
The thumbnail does not lie - Can't wait to see the follow up whenever it happens, it's truly a pleasure listening to him talk and you guys both led him in the right direction with some great questions!!
So awesome! Get this man on here more often. He's shockingly humble for being so immensely skilled. What he does is not easy. Also, hope Alex has a personal lawyer and accountant to keep all the financials on the up-and-up. I'd worry a bit for a famous artist who leaves all the business to their friends.
What a great interview. I'm a huge fan of your work and of your channel. Keep ir up. Alex mentions Camelot 3000, I'de love to watch that under a microscope! Greetings and thank you from Portugal.
I used to think Buzz was a nickname for Chuck Dixon until not too long ago. I never considered that they may be brothers which would be kinda funny since they are very different from each other on the political side of things
Loved this interview, I've gotta really disagree with him about his comment on AI "fixing" old, low quality scans. I'm sure it's a more him being misinformed than anything, but that neural network guessing what your pen stroke looked like does not automatically restore the artwork. If anything, it compromises the artist work and turns it into something completely different, even if it's just a simple upscale, you lose that artists hand. Is he right about it being the future though? Yes, sadly.
Once again you guys have made my Sunday morning!🎯 The one/two punch of Marvels and Kingdom Come is my intro to his amazing work! I met Alex in Toronto in 1994 ,very cordial, friendly fella! Uncle Sam is definitely at the top of my list of his accomplishments and with a ton of others to pick from! The recent FF HC was my swan song on the characters because I doubt anyone could top it! Alex ALWAYS brings his A game 👍🎯
Wow, for some reason I thought Alex Ross was an old man. He’s only 54?! At 29 seeing his paintings my whole life I’m shocked the legendary ALEX ROSS is younger than my dad.
Couldn't have said it better. With such a legendary career I expected a much older man.
He can still do so much!
I might be wrong, but I think he was doing the NOW Comics Terminator stuff when he was like 19 or 20. Joe Jusko got started super young, too--like high school.

Alex Ross is a real class act. He has a lot of skill and he is polite.
My fan casting of Reed Richards is the Proffesor from Gilligan's Island.
Holy shit! 2024 has only started and already a handful of Truly Great interviews.

He has been drawing the covers of FF since the new iteration started and it has made the books worth the price for the covers alone
Cartoonist kayfabe you guys are killing it and bringing me inspiration every day

Fantastic interview! ❤
A master in his craft, unmatched
This is a treat since he doesn't really do Cons. Seems like a great guy
This is the only channel I click the like button on every video I watch.

Nice job guys. Love Ross and you got a great dialogue going seeming effortlessly. You guys rock.

Great interview, you guys do the lords work. Alex mentioned azzarello, how about a 100 bullets deep dive?
Good suggestion. Joe DiMaggio issue maybe
Great interview! I'm surprised he had enough free time to do this, it seems like he's got 5 covers coming out every week!
Great interview! Alex is one of my art heroes; love hearing his thoughts on comics.
Steve Moore strikes again! Alan moore’s imaginary friend or legendary teacher who taught him everything he knows!
Ed and Jim need to interview Steve 😂
@@miguelthedrawtistI bet it he looks a lot like Alan with glasses on or maybe a hat! Lol
Awesome vid once again👏🏼 Get that man back on the record ASAFP. Love his Rough Justice book.
The first Alex Ross painting I remember seeing is batman with scars on his back and I was blown away.
This was great! I hope he comes back and speaks with you guys again.
Great interview. I love Alex Ross
INCREDIBLE VIDEO!
I loved this. Kudos, guys.
Tremendous interview. I’m not a huge Alex Ross fan - but this interview increases my appreciation for him and his work.
Great interview guys - there is nothing quite like when artists interview other artists.
The thumbnail does not lie - Can't wait to see the follow up whenever it happens, it's truly a pleasure listening to him talk and you guys both led him in the right direction with some great questions!!
Guys, goddamn...that was fantastic. What a serious treat to find out what a down to earth guy Alex is. Man...thank you. Outstanding.

I used to think Buzz was a nickname for Chuck Dixon until not too long ago. I never considered that they may be brothers which would be kinda funny since they are very different from each other on the political side of things
Hell ya boys !!
You guys talk about monkey facts , but you guys yet to acknowledge monkeyman

Fun interview. So is he religious?
