What's all this talk about Damon brackets?

- One of my favorite things about being an orthodontist is educating my patients about how, why, when, etc. I LOVE seeing my patients understand the rationale behind what we do. In a spirit of educating the general public, and in an effort to clarify a controversial subject, I decided to do the following video.
One of the most frustrating things we see is when, in an effort to "sell" a patient on treatment, a patient is told by another orthodontist that the brand of braces they use is better than that used by other orthodontists.
Remember: it's not the car; it's the driver.
Please watch this short video, where Dr. Burke dispels a few myths he sometimes hears from patients about a particular brand of braces called "Damon."

I could never tell if Damon system hurts less, but my treatment was meant to last for 3 years, and with this system my teeth moved so fast in the first month that my treatment was shortned to 2 years. I could see new changes every day. Also, barely any wound or cut on my mouth.
same, my teeth were terribly crooked to the point were i had about 4 teeth in my smile lol, 1 year later they are perfectly aligned.
one thing though, is that it hurts really bad, but its worth it.
I’m I swear Damon braces move teeth faster my teeth were jacked up and I’m getting them off in a month it’s only been a year!!
How bad were your teeth? Mine are kinda bad. I have a cuspid on top that needs to come down and my left side is pretty crowded so there’s some overlapping of teeth in the front and crookedness.

I have traditional braces and my teeth got aligned in less than a month!I had severe crooked teeth
My grandma was the assistant to the person who invented those braces and they work like a charm she will NEVER let anyone get any other bracket
It just depends on how your teeth are. I have traditional braces and my teeth aligned so quickly. I have a lot of gaps so I’m just patiently waiting for them to close
One thing that’s definite is different aesthetics, I personally prefer the Damon in that category

Me - what if the car is a Ferrari racing with a normal car, driver doesn’t matter! If the driver if better in the normal car he won’t win because the car is slow!
He meant it’s not the car drive itself it’s driver who drives lol 😂 he didn’t mean to say driving faster
My case: With traditional braces they would pull out four to eight perfectly healthy teeth. This is insane. With Damon I am so lucky that it was not indicated to remove any teeth. I wonder how someone can say those brackets were the same. For sure not.

Some one spoke the truth!!!
All braces feel like bricks, covered with sandpaper, glued to your teeth that rub the inside of your lips and cheek raw. Why they’re not dome shaped so that your lips in cheek slide over them who knows I’m sure there’s some ridiculous reason why until then I guess we’ll just have to use this stuff called wax that you have to put on three times a day after you eat.
You’re the only orthodontist saying this. Clearly, you’re in the minority. BTW: I had traditional braces years ago and have Damon now. Damons are far more comfortable, much easier to keep clean, use gentle constant pressure so there’s never that horrible initial pain that makes it so that even apple sauce hurts to chew after you get a new wire, and by all studies and accounts they work much faster than ceramic or traditional braces. Don’t know where you got your training, but you’re definitely behind the times.
The bands that wrapped around the teeth hurt so bad!

what about the claim that they're easier to keep clean vs elastic ties? and less visits since the wire slides within the Damon brackets vs elastic ties that hold the wire in a static position?

Can you get colors with Damon braces ?like the traditional braces knowing that it doesn’t need the bands to hold the wire

Yes you can have colors, (but it is just one little point*^) you can see it in 0:22, on this video at damon braces. But when you wash your teeth some of them get off. Maybe its not like an exatct color. But at least it will last just a little bit😂
