Technos made the mistake of outsourcing the game to another company. They should have waited for Kishimoto to finish working on "The Combatribes". It was only a six month wait. 🤷♂️
Fighting Chin was hilarious in the nes version if you stand by the door as soon as it opens you cyclone kick him in the face and he does his entire dialog laying flat on his back. "My kung fu is without equal!" 😅😅😅😅

DD3 on the NES is still until this day, one of my top10 best nes games ever made. i need to point out, i played the famicom version as a kid, so no Bimmy joke for me. The game looked great, had a great soundtrack and a great 2 player co-op, it was also challening enough for my then 10 years old self and brother and cousins. There is also an updated version that seems exclusive to the switch with no sprite flicker and uses more buttons, it is highly recommened. Shame really about the arcade one, it looked great but was made in a hurry .... anw, the nes version is a 10/10 for me.
I remember it being really hard, which I loved back in the day, because I would never stop till I completed a game. Giving it longevity. And being able to play as the bosses after you defeat them was so awesome.
Did the famicom version give you more than one life? Cause that was always the deal breaker for me. Which is to as cause every other part of the dd3 on nes was so much better than dd2. And I freakin loved dd2
@@ishamail24 no, same deal with the lives, i heard people say there is a difference, but the version i had was in japanese and had the same difficulty and same end boss, the only difference is the name of the ninja, other than that, it was %100 the same, i am replaying it in english now and i can say it is exactly the same.

I don’t care what others think. The NES version of double dragon 3 is far far better that double dragon 1 or 2 It had a better story, multiple different characters, engaging themes and enemies with different attack styles. It is the only double dragon that I would play.
Having played the Arcade game all the way through I can honestly say that the "extra characters" are nearly useless when taking on regular enemies or bosses if you are playing 1 player.
With the NES version, we were all used to having 4 lives at the start, and with DD2, able to use 2 player B mode to kill Jimmy and get a total of 8. Then Double Dragon 3 arrives and is super tough, but it only gave you ONE life to start! (I learned later that each character you win is kind of another "life" but i could only make it to Chin at the time, and thought he was useless) THAT'S what killed the NES sales. It was the biggest topic on the school ground at the time! Everybody rented it ONCE, and that was it. I rented it again with a game genie and finally beat it. Then as an adult i realized Chin isn't useless, he's basically a cheat code!! Now i can beat the game without game genie!
I didn’t actually mind Double Dragon 3: The Rosetta Stone on Amiga in the early 90s. It was one of the few side scrolling beat em ups that actually made it to that platform. Most ‘Arcade’ stuff was on Sega and Nintendo platforms, namely the SNES and MegaDrive. Could they download Jolly Roger’s Cookbook from a BBS? No! Did they have Mario, Sonic and a bunch of Capcom stuff? Yes.
Yeah, I remember the Amiga port of this, it was almost arcade perfect because the arcade version was so jerky. It didn't stop me from playing it to death though!
I first hated and then loved the NES version of DD3. I loved it after I discovered that you can play other characters by selecting the menu screen, instead of relying on one life/character. I remember when my older brother and I got to the cleopatra final boss for the first time, having never seen the final levels before, it was exciting.
I’ve only played DD3 on NES. Pre Blockbuster in my neighborhood. We had this place called Erols and they only rented games and movies for overnight. I only remember the game being frustrating and then had to take it back
I remember buying DD3 from a pawn shop and hating it, which is one of the few "bad" purchases I've made across my personal history. I wanted to like it but, I don't know if this was just me, but I found the game impossibly difficult - right from the first screen it was a fight for survival, and personally played more like some kind of endless mode to see how far I could get. Never did beat it, even with Game Genie. Maybe I'm just bad at DD3 in particular, to this I've never had such a difficult time with a beat 'em up. It made Final Fight look like a game for babies with no limbs.
The snes version was hard as heck. It gets easier when you unlock more characters. The ability to switch when you're about to die was a blessing. I always wondered why it felt like a completely different game from the other ones in the series
I know this game is bad but I liked playing this as a kid. Just thought I was trash at playing the game 😂 I still love the sega soundtrack to this game... specifically the first level!
I actually enjoyed the NES DD3. I did hate the arcade version though. Even as a kid, I saw how terrible it was after one quarter. I never played it again after that.
As a kid I remember being appalled that the game only gave you one life. It was too hard to even clear the first area. It was only after I owned the game as an adult did I realize that defeating the bosses gave you more lives by becoming playable characters . It gave me better appreciation for the game, however, it is still brutally difficult.
Yo BDTH have you done a video on Bad Dudes? I always felt it came out before Double Dragon and was a grandfather or prototype to said beat'em up but I could be wrong. Thanks I love the content.
You mentioned double tap to run being first added in this game I think... (i was listening at work not watching) But, and correct me if im wrong but didn't the original Double Dragon also have it in the 2p vs mode?
On the NES version you could use the head-flip attack to launch dudes off a cliff. It was fun. Not as much fun as the hyper-knee attack from NES DD2, but close enough for me.
Sorry if this is a stupid question but does anyone know how to get the DLC Secret Reunion for Gaiden? There doesn't seem to be any download button on steam
My fam and friends absolutely loved the NES DD3. If you used their secret techniques, like the insanely OP Knee and that amazing jumping throw, plus the fun additional characters, it was a super enjoyable game.
Between Double Dragon V and Neon, I had completely forgotten how important the series had been to gaming. I still remember how I felt back in the day, when 3 was coming out, talking to my buddy excitedly, and the pit in my stomach as he shook his head, and said "They suck." "They?" "Even arcade. Skip them."
I dread to think how many hours i put into DD2 way back when. Fun combat (that took some getting used to). A simple but compelling, classic NES premise. And really good music.
China and Italy VGM are the sole reason why I enjoy DD3 for the NES. Sure, it wasn't the best in the series, but brought so many memories from my youth.
Given the rise of reboots and the re-emergence of appreciation for side-scrolling beat-'em-ups, a new Double Dragon game with tight mechanics and teeth would really do well.
The best version of Double Dragon is a fan made game combining all 3 plus adding the wwf wrestlers. Double Dragon Reloaded. No more slowdown. Check it out. It is amazing.
Just started video. Are we going to talk about the Number based HP and how you insert coins for more health and the in game shop requiring more credits? It was the original in game cash shop.
It was amazing how the arcade back home went from half 80s games and half beat em ups to being flooded with several Street Fighter and MK machines so quickly. Granted, I only got to go a few times a year, but every trip in 1990-1994 felt like stepping forward an entire year in technology. I never remember anyone touching the DD3 machine, guess this was half the reason! Those were amazing times to be a gamer. And yeah, the cash shop is garbage... But you could easily accomplish the same thing in a game like X Men by dumping in five bucks of extra lives. At that point you can fly through the game by spamming your special attack. Not defending this practice, just saying half the arcade was P2W until competitive fighters made for a more balanced multiplayer experience.
Micro transactions in arcades, like refilling your health in WWF superstars kind of made sense, but here it was different. I like that the home version was like Streets of Rage 3 in that defeated characters could become playable (Shiva and Roo)
I remember playing this on an emulator, not sure if it was the NES version or some other. I remember because it had some kind of unlocked cheat code that let you toggle invulnerability on, but it didn't work against the final boss. The telekinetic throw it had dealt damage through it. Hmmhmm, was it also this game that had a soft lock when you knocked a scripted enemy down a cliff - a door would not open because that enemy didn't die from the fall? Or am I mistaking it with something else?
Please do videos on the two D&D beat em ups, the bouncer, urban reign, mortal kombat shaolin monks, the scott pilgrim vs the world game, dragon's crown, & mighty morphin power rangers mega battle
I really liked the super nintendo version. I think it was even called Super Double Dragon. It had a lot of cool moves that you could do and I liked the weapons.
Irony = making a video that ends talking about Dlc is bad but then in your ads you show a game that has dlc and in you comment ad you name another game that has dlc. love your videos just caught that irony
Funny story, when i got Double dragon 2 on the NES it was a while after it released. I loved the game but it did take me a fair amount of time to finish it, especially after playing the normal difficulty only to learn i had to play the highest difficulty to truly complete it. Anyways one night after i finally finished it and saw the awesome ending i was so amazed at how good the game was that i wanted more. The ending seemed to imply this would be the case. I went to bed thinking omg i wonder when this awesome 3rd installment will come? The next morning i turned on the TV and while watching cartoons, the very first commercial for double dragon 3 was shown and i was blown away, i couldn't believe that after just one day of whishing for this, my prayers were answered. Anyways once i got it for the NES, it was a dissapointment. Combat did not feel fluid and precise like DD2, the story was also weak and levels uninspired. I could overlook all these things if it wasn't for one major flaw of the game design that completely ruined the game for me. And it's the fact that all you need to do to see the entire level is run towards the end of it, as there were no segments to prevent you from doing so. You could basically stand at the beginning of the level or run towards the end of it then finish all enemies off vs. how beat em ups normally progress which is, eliminate a few foes, advace a segment, beat up some more foes advance another segment and so on until you reach the end of the level. Thus allowing you to appreciate each segment of a level. Don't understand how this major flaw in this type of a game was overlooked.
What I liked about DD3: - The music - The multiple characters with completely different styles of fighting - The weapon system - The new moves What I didn't like: - The repetitive level design - Getting stunlocked way too easily - The short length - The silly final boss
double dragon 3 is actually the very first "live service game".. not only did it cost you money to "buy more health" . what really screwed you was the "store". you had to literally put in more money to buy a new character; or get a power up; or something like that.
I don't mind buying characters, weapons or levels once because making new characters, items, and missions takes work. But IMO having to rebuy characters and items every time you play like in Double Dragon III the Arcade game is absurd.
Well, the "cash grab" would benefit the arcade operators, not Technos directly. It's not the last game to do that, either: "Riding Hero" on the Neo Geo (a weird motorcycle racing/RPG hybrid) required you to insert one credit for 15 minutes of gameplay, for a game that under ideal circumstances required 3 hours or so of gameplay, and there was no other way to gain time in-game.
I do not care double dragon 3 nes was amazing I love that game beat it within a few days as a kid and kept playing it over and over. Chin Semi is the most over powered beat ‘em up character ever 😊
I have the NES version of Double Dragon III. I had fun with it, as clunky as it was. Though the platforming stuff was horrific. Especially trying to do it in multiplayer.
I encountered this game in the wild back in the day when it was brand new. Being a DD fan i was excited, so put in a quarter or two and started to play. Then all the sudden it was asking me for more money. I remember being completely disgusted. Never played it again.😮💨
it seems like to me on NES from what i remember you didn't get enough continues to easily beat the game or something like that. i just remember me and my cousin would play DD 2 on 2 player and could beat the game 90% of the time and had a blast doing it.
We need double dragon and battle roads in smash Bros. It's a crime they are not in ultimate. They are such a better fit than kazuya or banjo or even joker
I much prefer the Gameboy version over the rest. The NES version despite all the positives it does have (graphics, music, gameplay), the lack of moves and steep difficulty make it secondary. Gameboy version doesn't even get to see a re-release, which is a shame.
In the home version you could jump off walls and turn yourself into a missile/flying kick and even jump off each other for the same attack. And even though it was clunky it was a good game and i enjoyed it. Music wasnt all that bad esp the boss music.
Gamers back in the day: You're fleecing us! Gamers today: Cool! Another edition of Skyrim for full price and next to no real changes! Yeah... We had standards back then. XD

Me and my cousin spent many weekends playing double dragon 3 nes beat it countless times but dd2 still is our favorite.
I have the NES version of Double Dragon III.
I had fun with it, as clunky as it was. Though the platforming stuff was horrific. Especially trying to do it in multiplayer.
That Toyota 2000 GT was the only redeeming part of the arcade game
I must have bad tastes but I really enjoyed playing the Atari ST version of DD3 when I was a child.
I had the Amiga 500 version of Double Dragon 3, can't remember Sonny.
Double Dragon 3 didn't cause outrage it's still a good entry in the Double Dragon series🐉🐉👍👍
I really like the dd3 on nes
Does Double Dragon 3 need to be remade so it can be better?
I encountered this game in the wild back in the day when it was brand new. Being a DD fan i was excited, so put in a quarter or two and started to play. Then all the sudden it was asking me for more money. I remember being completely disgusted. Never played it again.😮💨
Dubble Dragon x Battle Toad ❤ was Flipping fun.
I am surprised the nes version did not have marion as a playable character
New characters should always be unlockable via achievement, and the option to buy should only be there for people who kind of suck.
Current "I need views" outrage, perhaps, but back in the day there was hardly even a discussion about it.
I never saw this game in the arcades. When I first started this game in MAME, I just assumed the bad frame rate was due to my underpowered PC. 😂
it seems like to me on NES from what i remember you didn't get enough continues to easily beat the game or something like that.
i just remember me and my cousin would play DD 2 on 2 player and could beat the game 90% of the time and had a blast doing it.
INSANELY DIFFICULT was KEY HERE😂😂. I could get back used to playing this title though..
Me and my buddy enjoyed playing this one as kids
We need double dragon and battle roads in smash Bros. It's a crime they are not in ultimate. They are such a better fit than kazuya or banjo or even joker
I much prefer the Gameboy version over the rest. The NES version despite all the positives it does have (graphics, music, gameplay), the lack of moves and steep difficulty make it secondary. Gameboy version doesn't even get to see a re-release, which is a shame.
I think the nes version is a solid 7/10 game for me. Still pretty decent to good.
I love this game part 1-2 and super double dragon on the SNES.
DD3 arcade music was tight tho
In the home version you could jump off walls and turn yourself into a missile/flying kick and even jump off each other for the same attack. And even though it was clunky it was a good game and i enjoyed it. Music wasnt all that bad esp the boss music.
Gamers back in the day: You're fleecing us!
Gamers today: Cool! Another edition of Skyrim for full price and next to no real changes!
Yeah... We had standards back then. XD
I played the hell outta this as a kid when it came out
I liked the nes game. I got it the same day as battletoads. So I had a lot of stress that year 😂
