I'm still digging through the Light Novel, but have completed the web novel. I can say this Adaptation is one of the better anime adaptations, even with the "made for the small screen" changes made. And the Web novel definitely backups those descriptions of the characters.

Personal I think all these guys needed a do over- just like the Spear Hero Case, where the author made a spinoff for the Spear Hero getting a do-over while helping naofumi

@@JoseMendoza-JAM stuff like that kind of ruins it for character development in my opinion. Like take them as they are and then watch then redeem themselves. I mean motoyasu has so much potential to be a great hero especially bc of a Spears relationship with a Shield. Same for the Sword. But his easily deceptive mind and weak will not to mention his rashness make him weaker. He's physically strong but he's mentally weak to the point to where it's laughable. And dont even get me started on the other two.

How do you apologize for something you have no control over. That's like me killing re3 Nemesis and not knowing he can regenerate and come back to life and then get blamed for it how does this comment section work. Seriously did anyone think of that how does that work logically that made no sense.
A Changed Man but he does understand his ways after the greed series and help the shield hero and kinda become a unofficial party member of shield part. Bow hero takes some time to fix. Spear idiot nope still a dumbass but again how can you fix him when he got no brain.
So from what I've gathered with these episodes so far:
- Spear Hero is an actual brainlet
- Bow Hero is an edgy 12 year old trying to be cool and shit
- Sword Hero has his heart in the right place but isn't wise and experienced enough to make the right choices
And of course:
- Shield Hero is best boy
If you look it up in the LN, you see that the dragon corpse incident was a genuine accident. Unlike the Bow and Spear's problems which were caused by either not thinking things through at all or overlooking pretty obvious warning signs (like a plaque explicitly saying "Don't take this seed out of this cave!"), Sword honestly just got bad advice.

It was the people in his party and in the village that told him to leave the corpse instead of disposing of it (I forget if it was to make it a tourist attraction or to leave it for other adventurers to harvest materials from). As for the plague itself, I can't exactly blame him for not anticipating a monster body turning into a full blown bio weapon (unless maybe if the dragon was a Poison type, which I don't think is ever indicated). In other words, he screwed up, but it was only because he had no reason to even consider things going down the way they did.

Itsuki (bow hero) is a genuine piece of shit. Surrounds himself with people that boosts his ego and treats the only genuine person in his party (Risha) like shit. Literally the worst one of the bunch.
Motoyasu is a redeemable. Stupidity isn't evil. Just stupid.
Ren is just a fairly human character. He self-reflects and improves.

I don’t think that’s just a coincidence either. I don’t remember for sure but I remember hearing that both the shield and sword heroes are closer compared to the rest of the heroes. Makes sense since both work together really well.

He has always been the most reasonable of the other 3 heros of the story, his major flaws were his loner personality and naivety but he comes around a lot better than most,,, as for the bow....well you will see >.>
Well he basically listened to Naofumi chew out the Bow Hero for not understanding a political transition system and how merely overthrowing one authority and leaving doesn't rectify problems as much as create seven more. At that point he had to assume there was some form if logic to his own case as well, though sadly as a man from a world with hygiene he should've at least understood viral outbreaks.
Swords and shields are suppose to go well together. I suppose a spear and shield could go well together too but a bow and shield not so much. Bows are two handed weapons and you need a hand avaliable for a shield but I digress. Sword and shield heroes should otherwise be a perfect match for eachother in terms of combat.

Out of the other three heroes, Ren always seems the most level-headed. He takes the story of the princess at face value, because why wouldn't he? However, when that story starts to clash with what he's seeing, he's the first one to question it, and starts to treat Naofumi more fairly.
Ren is easily the best of the three, being the most reasonable and not having his judgement clouded by self-righteous hypocrisy like Itsuki or the absolute idiocy of Motoyasu.
Also he didn't really know Naofumi at the beginning or the spoil princess for that matter, so he really couldn't defend his fellow hero based on face value and with the majority of everyone believing the princess who is he to stick his neck out for someone he didn't really know because for all Ran knew Naofumi could have actually done what she accused him of doing. But now that he's actually began to know him he's now able to defend him if he sees Naofumi being treated unfairly.

Itsuki is bad but Motoyasu is worse, he attacked Naofumi in a crowded street and didn't even notice the damage he was causing until he got called out on it. At least Itsuki does understand his actions even if he is too proud to say it out loud.

I mean in both the web novel and light novel the moment he looks at Raphtalia's and finds cursed wounds on her he bowed down to her and asked to be forgiven for his mistake as it undirectly caused her to get those wounds (Ren may be the youngest but he takes the full responsibility of his actions most of the time)

You know, it's really ironic to hear this famous quote from an irresponsible "hero" for make everybody suffer due to his irresponsibility that temporarily made him shine, and the Shield have to clean up the Bow's mess alongside with Spear and Sword. If anything, all three of these "heroes" should be ashamed for themselves for the disaster that was resulted from their "good" intentions.

My opinion on the three heroes
Sword Hero: the only one who has a brain among them, and the one we have hope for.
Bow Hero: has an ego who could rival Gilgamesh from Fate Zero/Stay Night Franchise
Spear Hero: He'll believe whatever any beautiful lady tells him...coffs... like Bitch for example... because he is such a manipulative fool.
At least Gil can back up that ego of his with results.
Himanshu Goel Gil was crazy how much he could back it up and the bow hero fit in the same category because there both archers. I hat the bow hero he thinks he’s so good but he’s trash.

Funny you mention Fate. To me, Itzuki is sorta a cross between Shirou and Gilgamesh (who btw are both classified as Archers). He has the whole "hero of justice" shtick that Shirou has including his delusional obsession with it, but his insane ego rivals Gil's even though he clearly can't back up his boasting unlike the King of Heroes.

references aside, i like that in this scene there seems to start being respect between naofumi and ren with each other, having on mind both the direct and indirect interactions between the two from here on out

Well, starting immediately after her "birth", Naofumi did let her ride around on his head. I'm sure a little water, spat from across a table, is nowhere near as bad as what she did in his hair. I'm sure she'll get over it.
Sword is actually decent enough to realize his own mistakes, Bow and Spear are the biggest dickheads though, they believe that everything they do is heroic and inherently good because of their pride of being chosen as "heroes" so they lack critical thinking and jump to the easiest conclusions like sheep.
They never come close to Naofumi in combat because they continually grind easy exp but lack ACTUAL combat experience gained from true hardship in life-or-death battles and perseverance. When they spar with a royal captain later in the series she outright refuses to believe that the heroes are so basic at combat for their level, like an mmo character whose at high level but completely clueless at actual PVP.
its like a lvl 100 fire type pokemon against a level 50 ghost type pokemon but the lvl 100 keeps spamming a normal type move while the ghost is using toxic and slowly wittling the enemy using smarts
It went too far into "shield can do no wrong, heroes can do nothing right" imo. Made them complete caricatures in both decision making and fighting capabilities.
And the crux of the problem is that despite Bow, Spear, and Sword being game buffs with Sword having done MMORPGs before arriving in this world; all three of them look down on Shield thinking that because it's not a weapon it is as useless as most of the Kingdom says it is. They fail to attribute the three basic roles of MMOs to themselves and fail at realizing that the three of them are just DPS while Shield is the unique Tank/Healer Combo that most Dungeons/Raids Groups absolutely require in order to progress further in the games.
This is why I am a Tank Main: my job is to soak up the Aggro, and to coordinate with other Tanks to keep the Boss on its' toes so it doesn't break aggro to instead charge after our crucial Healers and Ranged Spellcasters, or cleave through the meat shield of flashy and extravagant DPS dipshits whose modus operandi only revolves around "Group Up And Hit It Til' It Dies".

Ren is easily the better of the Three Cardinal Stooges, because I feel his head is in the right place, although his heart isn't quite there. After Naofumi tells them of his suspicions of the Church, Ren was the first to take a risk and trust someone he had been set against from the beginning. From what I'm seeing so far, he'll be the first of them to fight alongside Naofumi and apologize for how he treated him.
It makes sense that Ren is the one most like Nafumi considering he's the sword the direct complement to the shield

Out of the 4 heroes the only two decent ones are Naofumi and Ren.Naofumi is cleaning up all the messes the other 3 left behind and is building up his legacy,Ren seems to be disappointed in his actions,he thinks just because it's like a game the enemy he defeats will fade away.When Naofumi was accused of kidnapping Melty Ren wanted to talk it out with Naofumi.If Naofumi met Ren when he was trying to leave the country instead of Motoyasu,Ren would likely have been the one to listen to Naofumi's full story.But that's just my opinion.
Okay here's my analysis of the 3 incompetent heros
Ren: he is the most reasonable of the 3 and the only one to really consider his actions. He's naive but will eventually snap. Despite being the youngest he is often shown with the most maturity
Itsuki: He is the second youngest yet acts the most childish. He always holds a grudge and isn't willing to hear what Naofumi says for the sake of his ego. He's basically Robin Hood 2.0.
Motoyasu (fukboi mcgee): Blindly hates Naofumi due to Bitchs manipulation. He has his heart in the right place but it isn't shown that often due to the aforementioned manipulation. Despite being the oldest he doesn't show much intelligence

At least Ren seems to have some common sense unlike the other two heroes. I'm glad he becomes Naofumi's ally in the novel after (i won't spoil it for anyone). Also goes to show age don't mean jack squat when it comes to being reasonable.

At least, the sword hero is willing to believe Naofumi, and own up to his misdeeds. Even the spear hero has also own up to his misdeeds, and even apologized to Naofumi at one point.
But the bow hero in the other hand, is quite close minded, and irresponsible.
The sword hero has some redeeming qualities by accepting that he failed but i still don't like and bow and spear
Question how did he feel he killed the thing. How was he supposed to know it was going to come back to life and make a plague how would you know. The man only found out when he went there who would have been me at home and asked a question can all dragons do that why was only that dragon. To stick to the theme of the clip, what ren did would be like if spider man fought and knocked out a super villain and just left them unconscious in a random alley without tying them up or disarming them at all. The hero usually can't stick around for the aftermath, but they should do something to ensure the cleanup goes well otherwise the problem just comes back, in the case of the spiderman analogy, the super villain goes free with the cops never knowing he was there, in Ren's case, the plague and zombie dragon.

Also, while this might’ve been overlooked, when the three listed off what game they were in, Ren called it a VMMORPG, or virtual reality game, like Overlord. The other two just had a computer game, their situations similar to Log horizon, but Ren has a full dive game. Considering the world operates with video game logic, he might’ve genuinely thought that he was still in the game and that monster bodies disappear, like in a game
I really like Naofumi because he is level-headed, smart and mature, since the beginning he knows that this world is no game. He knows that every action has consequences (unlike the other three morons who has to deal with).
It's been a while so some parts might be off but in the light novel when the other hero failed a wave and naofomi basically saved them (it could be the 2nd wave which changed in the anime?) the other heros basically said that they just respawn in beds if they fail like it's the most logical thing in the world.
To be fair, he thought it was basically a game too until that betrayal fucked him up.
The other three just realized it too late, poor Motoyasu became crazy and got his own series XD

To be fair Ren thinks is also level-headed but he doesnt think about the consequences of some of his actions. When Naofumi told him that he screwed up he simply thought oh he was probably right and apologized. Itsuki just listens to whoever has control over the country because when a soldier lied about one of his party members stealing from him and he flat out believed it even after finding out how corrupt the country he was fighting for is. Motoyasu is well needs no explanation.
Ren was the only one out of the three weapon heroes that I actually liked and hoped would see the truth sooner

Of all the heroes that aren’t Naofumi, Sword Hero is probably my favorite. He lives in denial, sure, but he seems to be learning that his actions have consequences.
He literally still thought he was in an actual video game until this point.

Sword hero is probably the second best among them. He understands that what he's done is wrong, and he tries to do better. If there's anyone Naofumi can get through to it's most likey going to be Ren.

At this point, Ren has shown more character development than his two fellow heroes, as he starts to improve greatly after this.
Well, now we have enough to accurately describe the other heroes:
Motoyasu is basically a generic Isekai/shonen MC: White Knight syndrome sufferer, pervert and very dumb. But it also shows what happens when he is not the protagonist, is pampered to irresponsable levels and pulled through the nose to whatever she wants.
Ren is the classical power leveler MMORPG player: just cares about growing in power. But he is not unreasonable and has a sense of responsability about the consecuences of his actions.
Itsuki is an arrogant glory seeker with a warped sense of justice and morals (and that's not all. I wont spoil it)
Just from looking at their bio's I feel like Itsuki is the worst.

Joe Devaney I just find it funny that out of the four of them the light novel reader treats his party as a party (in fights) whereas the mmo players don’t.

Notice the sword hero is the only one who believes him, he sees how his companion suffered due to the job he was supposed to do but didnt. I also think that the classic tandem of the sword in shield, where you wield both, plays a little part in this. 'Sasuke' is the only one who gives him a shot.

Yeah the heroes come from alternate versions of Earth with some notable differences, tho Naofumi comes from our Earth which Spiderman and the famous Uncle Ben quote exist.

From what I've been hearing, Ren has kind of an obsession with becoming "the best", so while I do think his remorse is genuine about the harm he has caused (notice him looking at Raphtalia's wound before apologizing), I also think a good part of that guilt is also him thinking _"dammit, I wasn't good enough! I need to get better!"_
At least, that's my take on the guy for now. If it turns out to be that, I just hope his mentality doesn't drive him to commit yet more reckless acts in his attempt to redeem himself.

@@PenguinZpoison season one will have 25 episodes not sure if it confirmed for season 2 or not (they would be a fool to not continue this) but the schedule you stated is where the anime industry is going(which is smart)
i think the weekly releases should stop and just do this, there is too many anime projects to work on and it leads to reused and bad animations (black clover and one piece is an example)
with the amount of light novel content we currently have(in english) we could have about 5/6 seasons worth of episodes(more if you consider the japanese releases)
Also Bell from DanMachi, Betelgeuse from Re:Zero, Masamune from Eromanga Sensei, Soma from Shokugeki no Soma, and Sora from No Game No Life.
Plus a ton of other roles, most of which involve him being the protagonist. Yoshitsugu Matsuoka's got a pretty decently-sized and well-known resume.

Ren is the youngest hero, yet he is the most mature out of the other heroes... He is the only one who is able to accept responsibility for his actions and is the only one who actually listens to what Naofumi listens to.
He's still an idiot, but he's definitely not as bad as the other 2.
Imposter Among us
The thing that I love about this sequence is the fact that at the very least the sword hero is kind of realizing that he’s not really doing much in the way of you know being heroic. The archer guy however is pretty much completely hopeless. He’s so stuck in his own power Fantasy that he fails to realize that he’s actually causing more problems that he solving.
It's frustrating when Naofumi tells the other 3 a few times that this world isn't a game but they keep treating it like their VRdive type game worlds. The anime is the worst about this.
So Ren understood that without further questions, just by looking at Raphtalia's hands. Well, at least he considered all mistakes what he did. Not so hopeless as two others.

Ren is the mose decent of the three other heroes. Where Itsuki feels like he's an anime protagonist and tries to be cool and is super self-righteous about it and Motoyasu is on a journey to find out how dumb you can be while being manipulated into bs by his snake companion, being a possible paedophile all the while, Ren isn't on some ego-trip but actually trying to be a good hero and helping the people. He's open-minded toward Naofumi despite the prejudice and acknowledges his own mistakes and tries to learn from them.
He's not the beast that Naofumi is, but he's definitely the second-best hero out there by a big distance
This scene is a great example of some of the more subtle character moments the series does so well. Itzuki starts by claiming the high ground and talking about responsibility. But when Naofumi calls him out on all the trouble he's caused, he gets defensive and refuses to listen, proving what a hypocrite he really is.

Almost every time he acts like a jerk, it's when Pedo-yasu and Itzuki are around and he gets caught up in their tantrums because he unfortunately sides with their jealousy of the Shield (granted, Ren seems to come more from bewilderment as to how Naofumi got so strong despite having 0 offense while Spear-creep and Bow-jerk are just mad that he makes them look bad).

Don't get me wrong, I know there are plenty of times when he's 100% at fault and being a brat, but those just seem rarer for him and are even balanced somewhat by him actually showing a decent side and genuinely caring about other people (again, he flubs that a lot, too, but at least he tries unlike the other 2 Stooges).

All the other three heroes certainly like to throw shade. What’s most annoying is that they didn’t earn it. They were just given weapons and praised. Our SH worked his ass off to get anywhere.
It's not that they didn't earn it, they just had it _easier_ than Naofumi from the beginning. It's like he said in episode 2, because he has no attack power, he can't defeat strong monsters. And if he can defeat strong enemies, then he doesn't level up. If he doesn't level up, he stays weak. That's why he absolutely needed a party. The other three Heroes could fight completely by themselves and they would still be all right. But _because_ they had it easy, they don't take anything seriously. Which is what lead to all these problems.
@@SnowyWolborg They've been playing on Easy Mode the whole time. Naofumi's been on Hard. So when it kicked up to Legendary all of a sudden, Naofumi gritted his teeth and worked through it. The others died.
I hope Ren gets to have some character development in the next seasons. He seems to be the only one of those three who can actually think

Spear Hero/Motoyasu seems like an utter idiot. I believe he does have actual good intentions (and a bunch of weird fetishes), but he's so stupid that he becomes the pawn of any asshole with a bit of smarts.
Bow Hero/Itsuki, from what I've heart, has an ego the size of a planet. Basically, he cares only about his public image, not about doing actual good. And he was pretty dumb, trying to pull a Batman and not reveal he was the one aiding the insurgentes. Of course they didn't pay him, they thought it could've been anyone.
Sword Hero/Ren seems like the most balanced of them all. The main issue he has, or so I've heard, is that he has this obssessed mentality that he MUST be *"the best".* No matter what. And that apperantly becomes a problem in a later arc. But that aside, it seems pretty obvious he's at least decent and humble enough to recognize when he has screwed up. That already puts him LEAGUES above Itsuki.
Read the manga, and for the most part Motoyasu became somewhat redeemable, bow hero kinda loses his shit for a while and becomes full one asshole, and sword hero just kinda exist

All of the other heroes but naofumi is treating the world like a video game not thinking what they do through. But since Naofumi has always been on the lower spectrum of everything he bows that this isn’t a video game but a real world where decisions have consequences.
It's because he already got his reality check from the very beginning. The other three have constantly been playing on easy mode, essentially. They haven't come upon any problems that have forced them to actually think critically about the situation in the world that they're in.

How would you know killing a dragon makes it come back to life like Nemesis but more pissed off and power up into a undead dragon that spreads a plague. That makes no sense how would you know that in advance.
You won't know what happened until it happens. That's like the equivalent of me killing nemesis and then you come around see Nemesis transformed in attacking and spreading the virus and blame me what.
Because I'm pretty sure if I was in that conversation I've been like that dragon's powers are b*******.

Ren has always been my favorite of the 3 cause he is willing to hear Naofumi out hell in this scene he seems to believe him about the zombie dragon and disease
I like how because of what happened, noufumi is the only one who treats the new world as real or takes it seriously. The others still think it's just a game and they don't think about the consequences of their actions which cause more harm than good.
Ren: he's basically just posturing. Looking cool, being detached, never letting anyone know anything about him or being indebted to anyone. He's actually just a regular dude doing his best to look strong and cool in front of others and avoid any problems to himself. He's moved by mere self interest.
Itsuki: he's always had an advantage over other people due to his status. He's all about being the star, the leader, the hero. His mind is on defeating powerful enemies, punishing criminals and tyrants. He only follows his ways, and whoever doesn't agree with him he considers to be below him. He refuses to admit his weaknesses, his mistakes or his ignorance, but its quick to condemn others. He's moved by mere ambition and pride.
Motoyasu: he's basically a guy that was lucky to be good looking, tall, strong and inheriting such a powerful weapon. Despite just being a lucky guy, he has tremendous contempt for those that are ugly, short, weak, poor and low on the social ladder. He's simply moved by pleasure, status and materialistic gains.
Naofumi: a common guy, very sincere and kind hearted, innocent, peaceful. He's not into posturing. He's not proud or entitled. He's authentic, vulnerable, humble and compassionate towards those in pain or need. He's moved by love and empathy towards other's people's misery. His weapon, the shield, it's a symbol of his strength: he may not be the strongest in offensive combat, but he can withstand even the most powerful blows.
I had high Hopes for Ren after this moment and when Naofumi trusted him to clear his name of the assassination attempt. Unfortunately he let me down 😞

It's to me that even though he believes that noafumi is still a criminal. Ren is the only smart hero besides Noafumi. He believed him about the Dragon Corpse. He found out about the Three Heroes Chruch because of Noafumi.
