Motoyasu was never truly evil. He’s just shallow and doesn’t want to put the effort in to think things through. To him, Naofumi is evil and the people who defend him are either liars, being tricked or manipulated. He legitimately believed he’d be thanked for getting the slave seal removed, he thought she was being made to defend him (which given the situation wouldn’t be completely unbelievable from his perspective). But he never puts the effort in to re-evaluate or think about the people around him. It’s shown time and time again that his own side will lie, cheat and bully, but he’ll always rush to their defence and disregard all evidence. He’s reactionary and too easy to manipulate. He’ll believe the first thing he’s told and will dive in head first. It’s a good thing he wasn’t summoned with the shield, he’d be mentally broken, if not dead, within a week
That is basically just your average White Night of our days. Take away the few good qualities you stated, and he is just another "Protect to exploit" White Knight. He only does things that he "thinks" are right because he is expecting to get something in return. He imitates being a hero because as he has seen, being a hero gets you women and money.

Ren is wrong, Motoyasu didn't lose the duel because there was no duel. A duel is a fight between 2 persons who use swords or guns. Motoyasu lost a usual fight, since it wasn't a duel the number of fighters does not matter.
Its moments like this that make me thing the bow and sword hero might be decent people but then they start getting written as worse and worse people that just hate naofumi for no good reason.
I love this scene as everyone was stopping Raphtalia from speaking her mind but she was finally able to speak out and defend Naofumi the only person to do so since he arrived. I also grew to like the Bow and Sword Heroes a lot more from this as the Spear hero became so clouded because Myne manipulated him.

While Aultcray was an undeniable asshole in this scenario and with how he has treated Naofumi up to this point, if you know his backstory, you would understand exactly *why* he hates the Shield Hero title and Demi-Humans so much, and deep down he's really not a bad guy (there's a reason the Queen was *happy* when his life was spared, because she still loves him) he genuinely means well and cares about the people he rules over alongside the Queen, the only one who is really irredeemable and evil is Myne, as she's a pathological liar and narcissist whom even under the effects of a Slave Seal to *force* her to tell the truth, she *still* lies despite the fact that the Slave Seal will "punish" her for it. Plus I can't help but feel that there's more going on with these waves then what they've been told. Or barring that it seems none of the heroes are asking the right questions. What exactly are these waves, where do they come from, when did they begin in the first place, why are these weapons necessary to combat them, who made the weapons/where did they come from, and why is it necessary to bring in complete outsiders to your world to both equip the weapons and fight your war? If this were another parallel world story I'd say I'm probably overthinking this but in this case I don't think so. Feels like there's more to this than what's on the surface and for some reason they aren't asking the important questions.

Ren is wrong, Motoyasu didn't lose the duel because there was no duel. A duel is a fight between 2 persons who use swords or guns. Motoyasu lost a usual fight, since it wasn't a duel the number of fighters does not matter.

Its moments like this that make me thing the bow and sword hero might be decent people but then they start getting written as worse and worse people that just hate naofumi for no good reason.

I love this scene as everyone was stopping Raphtalia from speaking her mind but she was finally able to speak out and defend Naofumi the only person to do so since he arrived.
I also grew to like the Bow and Sword Heroes a lot more from this as the Spear hero became so clouded because Myne manipulated him.

While Aultcray was an undeniable asshole in this scenario and with how he has treated Naofumi up to this point, if you know his backstory, you would understand exactly *why* he hates the Shield Hero title and Demi-Humans so much, and deep down he's really not a bad guy (there's a reason the Queen was *happy* when his life was spared, because she still loves him) he genuinely means well and cares about the people he rules over alongside the Queen, the only one who is really irredeemable and evil is Myne, as she's a pathological liar and narcissist whom even under the effects of a Slave Seal to *force* her to tell the truth, she *still* lies despite the fact that the Slave Seal will "punish" her for it. Myne is the one who wanted Melty killed, Myne is the one who framed Naofumi, Myne is the one who manipulated Motoyasu into turning hostile to Naofumi, etc.
