Shelley thank you for this tutorial. I had a similar picture that I wanted to paint for the photographer of the picture and this really helped me with my background! Thanks for sharing! Merry Christmas!
I have watched close to 10 of your tutorials. This one was extremely good in the sense that you included so many techniques in one short session. As a person who staples his paper to gatorboard, the tip on removing the staples was great.
Love this!! Also in the beginning, you showed some of the other smaller bird pieces- would love to watch you do the hummingbird! Love your videos, hints, explanations, etc 😊
Hi Shelley, I like how you capture birds in your paintings. Chickadees are a childhood favourite. I especially like the colours you used in the background. Would you ever consider painting a PUFFIN ? They have such expressive faces. Thank you 🎨✨🙏🏼💕
Really enjoyed this. To answer your request for suggestions for upcoming tutorials, I looked through your playlist and couldn’t find one dedicated to coniferous trees, although I may have skimmed too quickly! A small evergreen tree ( or a branch) with a few shiny baubles on it would be nice at this time of year!
Shelley, I have just discovered your site. I have really enjoyed this tutorial! I love how you did the background, it’s so cool and pretty. Thank you. Helene
Hi Shelley! thank you for this video and your helpful guidance in the world of watercolour. You mentioned being open to suggestions for future vids - being that we are on the "advent" side of Christmas I would love to see a Nativity scene or even a Nutcracker or the beauty of snowflakes
I loved watching you paint your chickadee. Might it be possible for you to paint a robin please? I'm in the UK and not sure if you have these beautiful birds in Canada?
We have American robins which are a bit different than yours but I am familiar with them. We don’t have you’re robins but they sure are popular, especially on Christmas cards
@@shelleypriorfineart Thank you for replying Shelley. You hit the nail on the head as I’m currently in the process of trying to paint a robin for my 2023 Christmas card which I’ll get printed. Glad to hear you have robins too as they are enchanting little birds
I did not realize our North American robins are so different from those in the UK, I would love to paint a UK Robin someday. I usually try to take my own reference pictures but I have never left the US so odds are I will need to rely on a dreaded royalty free image site. For your edification I snatched a snippet from Wikipedia. “The American robin (Turdus migratorius) is a migratory bird of the true thrush genus and Turdidae, the wider thrush family. It is named after the European robin[2] because of its reddish-orange breast, though the two species are not closely related, with the European robin belonging to the Old World flycatcher family.”
Masking tape won’t stick to wet paper. I’m guessing that you are referring to gummed paper tape? I have tried it but don’t care for it. It doesn’t leave a nice white border because the gummed tape cannot be removed from the paper. It needs to be cut off. Then there is the remaining tape stuck to my board which then has to be soaked and scraped off. It works for some artists I suppose but I prefer to stretch with staples.

We have other pretty little birds from the same family too here. Blue tits, Great tits and Long-tailed Tits, they're all so pretty. You have simplified this perfectly, retaining a beautifully realistic look. I would love to see more bird paintings. Puffins ar e lovely with their black and white feathers and that lovely "clown like" face with the bright beak and defined eyes. Black feathered birds Crows, Ravens Etc. shining and reflecting those beautiful iridescent colours would be a lovely subject or white birds, Swans, or a Little Egret, I would love to see how you would tackle those beautiful and challenging birds. Thanks for this painting video, O loved this one. 😍💕👏👏
You are an excellent teacher!

IS THERE A REASON NOT TO APPLY HIGH ADHESIVE MASKING TAPE INSTEAD OF STAPLES TO A WET STRETCHED PAPER?

Loved the demo. I feel like you missed out on finishing his collar.
I did wet it and add a bit more dark there.
