Agreed! I did this tonight and it’s the best thing I’ve done. The directions were so clear and watching you gave me confidence in my strokes and paint application. Thank you!
This is one of the best tutorials on how to paint a chickadee! I’ve watched… well, a lot… and this one is broken down so easily, and it’s easy to follow, without the stress of rushing through it!! Chickadees are some of my favorite birds, not only because they’re adorable and have the funniest bird calls, but, chickadee was my nickname for my sister, who passed away 3.5 years ago. Now, I feel like I’ll be able to paint one in her honor, so, thank you so much for the awesome tutorial, Harriet!!💖💖💖
I’ve done 2 now and getting the hang of it more each time. But your tan areas are so much lighter than mine and my white areas are too gray….so onward for #3. I learn something each time 😊
Hello, This tutorial is absolutely beautiful and so helpful! I have to say that your drawing is so perfectly done and love the colour of the chickadee! ❤I hope to see you do more bird paintings! Thank you. Helene
Thank you for such a wonderfully explained tutorial. You have helped me have a better way of understanding how to draw and paint this cute little bird!
I do have a feeder outside a big window and yes, there are always many birds of ALL types ( the only ones I shoo away are the red hooded woodpeckers because they are so much bigger and create so much havoc. Lately, I keep running into bird paintings, I think the lesson is to start painting them!!. Thank you Harriet!. ♥️❄️🎈
Thank you, Harriet! My late MIL used to call my eldest daughter her little chickadee, and she values that memory so much! We live on the prairie in CO; there aren't enough of the right kind of trees in our surrounding area for chickadees to congregate, and she misses them so much! (We moved recently from an area where they are prolific.) I have designs on painting a larger piece of a chickadee for her for her birthday, so this tutorial is very timely! Tysm!!
Hi dear Harriet, Thank you for this lovely video! I have your wonderful book and since this month I am on your patreon. It is amazing how much your can learn on those videos 😍
Love watching you paint nature! I just ordered all three of your books from Amazon. Can’t wait to receive them! Love your advent calendars too. I live in the USA and wasn’t sure if I could order your books off Etsy because I live in the US.
I enjoyed this tutorial. The Chickadee is a sweet little bird and you captured it perfectly. Mine is a work in progress, but its coming along. Thank you I look forward to each and every tutorial. 👍 💗 👍
Beautiful chickadee! One of my favorite birds is the mountain chickadee! They are at my feeders all year round and very friendly birds! I will enjoy trying this one out though it looks challenging for me! Thanks for sharing!
@@deWintonPaperCo Oh ... I bought "A Year of Watercolor" when October as I started my watercolor adventure ... signed from Etsy and it is wonderful. After today's Chickadee tutorial, I purchased Birds, Bees and Blossoms Kindle version from Amazon U.S. The kindle version is great for me as I can work from my iPad via Kindle App. I love how the books are laid out ... similar to today's video with shape: egg, circle, etc. I am also finding, as a VERY beginner, that I do better with a reference photo. I hope to one day be able to sketch/draw/paint what I see in nature but your books and tutorials have helped me get going. Many Thanks!
Excellent tutorial! We actually have 6 species of chickadee here in the US. Your reference photo appears to be the Carolina chickadee. (yes, I'm what you would call a twitcher!) I've decided to use your tutorial to paint all 6 since the body type is nearly identical for all, just differences in color.
As much as I practice, the drawing eludes me with birds. They never appear quite right. This tutorial should fix that. I love to watch them at the feeders!
Like painting birds, bees and blossoms? You'll Love my watercolour book Birds, Bees and Blossoms! dewintonpaperco.etsy.com
My favorite night cap is watching videos like this. So relaxing and sometimes for me better than painting it myself. 🙏
Glad you enjoy it!
The whole process, from sketch to detail, was absolutely fabulous!
Agreed! I did this tonight and it’s the best thing I’ve done. The directions were so clear and watching you gave me confidence in my strokes and paint application. Thank you!
You make it look so easy and doable. Fabulous, thank you!
Fab tutorial, especially the 'how to draw a bird' element. It just made it 'click'. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

I’ve always been stand-offish about drawing and painting animals, but you’ve given me some ideas on how I can approach it now. Thank you.
Great to hear!

Thank you for taking the time to also learn us how to draw our subjects. You make it seem so easy that I dare to try 😅again a beautiful tutorial 🌸
My pleasure 😊 so happy to be able to help
I love this video. One question…what color is closest to Moon glow?
I love how you break the drawing into shapes. Now if I can actually get the egg shape to look like an 🥚, I will be on a roll.😅
As much as I practice, the drawing eludes me with birds. They never appear quite right. This tutorial should fix that. I love to watch them at the feeders!
Thank you! Cheers!
What is a chickadee?
It's this bird! It's very similar to a coal tit
