Late to market, pricey, modest range and 50kW Chademo charging. I'd love to have been at the board meeting that OK'd this offering. What on earth were they thinking?
Good for the Japanese market where that meeting took place and they intend most of their sales to be. Which unfortunately makes export markets a second thought, especially when Toyotas dedicated worldwide EV platform is on the way.
The real question is reliability which is the main reason to buy a lexus. No one expects a super fast speed or crazy long range but it will certainly have better build quality than a tesla and more reliable than a ford.
Definitely not a car for the masses then, which, to be fair, Lexus have never aimed their products at. Vicky obviously doesn't much appreciate the finer things of Lexus - such as mould breaking design, peerless build quality, silent running and bullet-proof reliability. Fortunately Lexus have enough fans not to be overly worried.
Hello, Just seen your comment and completely agree. No other manufacturer comes close to giving you the total peace of mind, customer service and reliability the you get from Lexus.
This car was designed for the Japanese market where it'll be cheaper, range is less of a concern, and basically all public fast charging stations are 50kW CHAdeMO. Export market was a second thought as Toyotas dedicated worldwide EV platform is coming soon.
£44k+ 50kWh charging Chademo connector...??? This might sound a rather perverse idea, but, since parent company Toyota are proudly vocal about how EVs aren't the future, I wonder if they've quite literally sabotaged this model so, at some point in the future, they can state, "You see... We told you EVs are no good"...! Bonkers...
Mazda seems to have done a similar thing with the MX30, which has a very short range. Mazda says this is because to make the range longer, the car would have a larger carbon footprint than a Mazda3 diesel. Given that the only other electric carmaker that has revealed the full environmental impact of its cars is Polestar, I suspect there is some truth in that which the other EV makers aren’t owning up to.
Toyota know that plug in hybrid is the future for most drivers - if they can develop a 100 miles range plug in with 450 mile conventional petrol on their 1.8L Prius engine that will sell. The new Prius already does around 40 miles plug in so they need to keep working on it.
Hi thanks for that review. What puzzles me is that Toyota cars e.g. Rav 4 Plug in HEV seem much closer to the mark than the Lexus range. You would think the luxury Lexus brand would be leading the way. Ah well will just have to live in hope. (I love Lexus cars and service)
Good honest review. I do like Lexus cars, having owned two, and drive an NX right now. My next car will be a plug-in or full electric but it is hard to see me going for this as it does not do the milage and is so slow to charge. I will test drive one, but there is so much good competition out there I may regrettably have to leave the Lexus brand. :(
Well, since Toyota/Lexus now introduced 10 year warranty/ 100k miles. It may be the best option (used) and not have to worry about costly repairs ! Saying that Kia also do 7 years for used too? so I guess the point still stands
@@RevLexus yes, too much for me too, I would not have that one. I would need to have a look at what else was out there, quite a few to be honest, but I do like Lexus cars so it would take quite a car to pull me from another Lexus. Unless I waited a couple more years and went for a two year old model.
Toyota is THE laggard of the EV market. They literally need about 7 years to catch up to Tesla and then Tesla would need to be at a stand still. Also, CHaDeMO charging isn't going be the right standard in the EU. And 50 kW is extremely slow compared to most other vehicles. You want a vehicle with CCS if you want to be able to charge in most places. I hope they won't be surprised if this doesn't sell at all, and they will double down on making a better vehicle.
It is a shame cos the car is actually incredibly well done but the range Erik... I actually drove this UXe for the whole day from 100% to 0% and the expected range is no where near what is outlined! You're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think.
It’s not designed for my everyday drivers, just like BMW 3 series, Mercedes E class etc they’re all designed for companies - a lot of lease schemes around which make them more affordable - my work do these for £250 a month. Not really sure who would actually buy an electric car at this stage of development given that the range is so poor and infrastructure, but as a 2/3 year lease not a bad idea and you don’t have to worry about huge depreciation - that being said , you pay £3,000 a year for the car and give the keys back after 2/3 years so are out of pocket but you’d likely spend that on fuel if you’re a regular 30+ mile commuter so when you consider a new car, cheaper running costs and insurance included some are even saving money - especially if you go to free charging stations
As an owner of 4 Lexus hybrids I am very disappointed with this offering. It is a well constructed car as always and is built to a high standard. But, sadly it is too expensive and the range is too small. It does not compare to the rapidly expanding range of BEV's. Better than a Kia EV6 or Ionic 5?
I believe I got the first customer car in the UK. Lets just say the ride is more comfortable than our RX and its build quality is exceptional. Things that a Tesla model 3 can't provide. The Tesla felt like a toy, this feels like a specialist tool.
It’s the first of tens of EV Lexus models arriving within the next few years. Proper EVs more or less have to be designed as EVs from the start - and that’s what’s about to arrive. Developing a new car properly takes 5-10 years - this is a long game!
Seems like it has a lot stacked up against it......I know it’s subjective but that leather interior looked awful. Quick question, the boot looked and was described as small, not suitable for a dog owner? Also, was the boot lip pretty high too?
Hey mate, depending how big/small your dog is. Small to medium would be fine. Big would need rear seats done. Boot lip is very high. I've made a comprehensive review on it, you're welcome to watch it and let me know what you think :)
Very disappointed with what this Lexus offers. I’d have expected much more from Lexus. 110 miles in winter is a deal breaker - that would put me right off buying the UX300E

That it's called the UX is ironic. Lexus' mantra of "experience amazing" doesn't translate to their middling infotainment systems. Premium brands don't seem to understand that this too, must be LUXURIOUS

Over priced and under rated across the technology standards European cars have already proven to be better - so for my two pence worth, another disaster forth coming for Lexus. Keep it - don't want it.

10 year one million kilometer warranty on the battery. Wow. Id consider one and drive it as long as it runs...

the new RZ should be good, although that is set to cost £80k
"Crossover type thing" is that the technical term 🤣🤣
Best description I've heard yet for one of these 'things'! 😉
I love those seats! That blue!
It seems to have an air cooled battery pack from the photo. Might explain the poor fast charging speed.
yeah it does

When are car manufacturer’s going to understand that, for most, price of ev’s is more important than range. £47,000 for that ? Not a chance.
