    I like this radio, perfect for multi rotors. I know the fixed wings guys aren't fussed on it, but I'd bet HK will offer a FW update to allow this as FlySky has. My DX6i doesn't have any 3 position switches nor PPM, SBus or telemetry. 4 times the money too. I'll be grabbing one of these for sure.

    Dang. Thought I found a unicorn. Cheap, great interface, smaller form factor, 10 channel. Love to have this for both my quads and helis. Thx for your great vids. And bought one anyway for my quads. I'll stay on spektrum for my helis for now. Keep them separate.

      I would, even the heli pieces on the mighty OpenTX/Taranis are not as slick as on devices like the DX8/9/18..

      I have a DX9 here and it's a lovely (if expensive) radio. The new DX6 looks good now too. if you're using a flybarless setup then you can get away without a lot of the special swash settings..

    So i don't know why but the way you were able to move the sticks on your transmitter and have it show up in the clean flight reciever screen after you changed the reciever to PPM, looks so easy. On my end, i did the same exact change and i am still not noticing any of the throttle, roll, pitch, and yaw channel maps updated with my stick movements.
    Here is summary of what i have done so far
    1. binded the FS-iA6B reciever to my FS-i6X transmitter
    2. set the Reciever to RX PPM input
    I did not do any subtrim modifications like you did however.
    Is that what might be causing me from not seeing any changes to the channel maps of those 4 motions?
    Once i get this sorted, the rest is smooth sailing.
    Awesome videos Painless.
    Cheers Mate.

      Thanks for explaining a little of what you've tested as many expect me to know the answer by just letting me know that something isn't working! If non of the channels are working correctly then it's the bind, wiring or settings in Cleanflight/Betaflight. I'd recheck each in turn. Best of luck!

    Glad to see some FlySky love though for racing quads perhaps the regular FS-I6 would be best... Why not use iBus though? It's fully supported on CleanFlight and BetaFlight.

    • @Painless360

      +RC Flyer85 because those following the series may not use exactly the same radio and PPM is the simplest, widely supported method (if you have it). Thanks for the comment. Happy flying!

    Hi, just wanted to say I love your channel, it's helped me so much during my build of the same model. Also, do you think you can help me? The radio I purchased on gearbest along with the model is a FlySky iA6. I've noticed it definitely does not look similar to the RX you are using, and I'm just wondering if there was another way to connect the RX I am using to the spracing f3 flight controller. My RX only has 7 rows of pins and 3 columns. Instead of using the servo-pin-like male connector do I use all of them?

    in this video you use a lipo reduced to 5v to set up the flysky, I was wondering if it is possible to wire a usb to dupont setup and use a phone charger? I tested the voltage coming from the charger and it clocks in at 5.22v and 0.7A. do you see any reason that this wouldn't work? by the way love your videos, you explain things with great detail and simple enough for even me to understand. thank you so much

    Hi painless, i have followed every step that you did, and it worked.... kind of..... The throttle and yaw work, but my pitch and roll do not respond. it does not work... Is there anything that you can tell me that might help? I am a noob at this new hobby and i dont know what to do.... thanks, ben

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well done on trying to build one, so many just buy a BNF and miss all the fun! You'll get it sorted, the first one or two are huge learning curves.
      You can tell that the radio and Rx are talking so the problem may be on the radio (check that the channels move in the 'monitor' screen on the radio itself) or the cables from the Rx to the flight controller are not installed correctly..
      When asking for help it's handy to cover what you're already tried, that was I can avoid suggesting things you've already done..
      Best of luck!

    I have the same radio, but my quad is not ready for flying yet. In a failsafe screen are you writing instructions or events for the given channel? For what I saw in the video - it was an event. And if I'm not mistaken it is not the way it supposed to be for setting up failsafe, I'm speaking mainly about channel 5. One more remark - when you were showing how to set up flight modes, you didn't say that you need to set up PWM value for each mode in MP, otherwise, you'll stay on the same channel no matter how many clicks you've made with mode switch. I'm not trying to teach you or to be rude it's just a way I am clearing out if my understanding of how to set up radio is right or wrong.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      We used channel 5 and set it up to be connected to the switch, that way we get three values on CH5 we can use for flight modes (see the videos). The failsafe is set before binding and should 'tell' the receiver what to output if it looses connection with the radio. Best of luck with yours.

    Hello, I am building a quadcopter with NAZA M-V2, FS-i6s tx and FS-iA6B rx. RC calibration on NAZA on the PC is fine except setting the control mode, I cannot move the slider until the GPS, Atti. or Manual area turn blue, The only way I can move it is changing the values on thefly mode but is not accurate and does not go where I want. The other main issue is that I cannot arm the motor nor start the motor test on NAZA on my PC. I am totally puzzled and run out of ideas what to do next. Linking motors to TX and RX only the motors work when testing them. I would much appreciate your opinion on this.

    I know this is kind of an old video but im hoping you will see this. Do you think that the FS-i6S is better than the turnigy evolution? i Like the look of both but im a thumber and use a strap while flying and neither of those are qualities that the evolution has. That being said ive heard some amazing things about the evolution and not that much about the i6S. thanks for reading this and i hope you can help.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you mean by 'better'. Both use a very similar menu system but the i6s is a more traditional layout with some extra things in the menu (curves, dual rates) that come in handy..

  • @Tish418
    @Tish418 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm not entirely sure if my failsafe is set up correctly. I have my settings the same as you have set them here. When I arm the quad and try to power off my FS-16S, my radio says 'TURN OFF RX'. However when it is armed and I take the batteries out of the radio the motors stop. Is this right? I thought I saw one of your videos where you actually turned off the radio by the buttons to check the failsafe. Thanks for these videos by the way, I am (almost) ready to fly after months of being obsessed with the hobby and I couldn't have done it without your videos.

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yep, that radio has a nice safety feature that forces you to turn off the receiver first. Removing the batteries is the same as what I was doing on the other radios..

    However If I connect on the SBUS side with the 1 servo cable, I am able to see all AUX channels however, the throttle still does not move. Please help me :(

    Does the receiver come bound to the transmitter from the factory? I don't have any 5v batteries to power the receiver for binding. After setting the transmitter. Could i plug in the connector to the receiver. the one we plug in for ppm, The red,black,white "signal cable". How you show in the video. From receiver from the FC. Then plug in the big main Batt to the xt60, get power from the Pdp-FC-RX that way, for the binding? Then unplug the big batt. Turn off transmitter. Unplug bind plug. Then proceed to Cleanflight. Would that work? I'm sorry if that doesnt make sense. Hard for me to articulate the question properly. Thank you

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on the kit, some do, some don't. See the USB cable trick on the channel if you don't have a 5v supply. I'd strongly recommend you get one as it's worth it's weight in gold when you need it.. Best of luck!

    Do the controllers matter a lot? Will a controller allow you to go faster? Will a 2.4ghz controller work with a 5ghz transmitter?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The radio you use will not make the model go faster but it will help you fly well with smoother, accurate gimbals and tweaked settings like Expo, flight modes and throttle curves.. Best of luck!

    Just got the FLYSKY FS i6S with the 6 channel iA6B receiver. Upgraded firmware. My question is the battery level for the receiver always shows full even when LIPO at about 50% I have read that I need the 10 channel receiver to monitor LIPO voltage, or the 6 channel V2 receiver. Just got the monitoring sensor (FS-CVTO1) with no luck. I see in your video your LIPO battery level is well down to show the true level. Any clarification would be most grateful thanks. (Great Channel - thanks) Steve

    Hello Sir,
    where can I find this little UBEC "circuit" you have used to power the receiver before installing it into the copter? I am planning to build a 4s quad and don't exactly know where to search for.
    Do you have a hint? Are the ones with pre-installed xt60 connectors, or do I have to solder them separately?
    Thanks for your videos. They are, by far, the best on the Internet when it comes to understanding the basics and the "whole technology". Nothing comparable in Germany!
    Kind regards

      What radio you have in your hands makes absolutely no difference to what the flight controller need. It's more about the protocol used in the model from the receiver to the FC. th-cam.com/video/4iqKp-7RQkk/w-d-xo.html may be worth a look... Best of luck

    Hi Painless, I'm following your Quad build for beginners. Everything is great motors work, set up controller, went through Betaflight without a hitch. Very cool stuff and exciting. Transmitter is bound to the receiver as per the video. All seems perfect till I unplug the quad from the computer. Nothing works...transmitter (FY-i6s) set up per videos and it corresponds to Betaflight perfectly. Transmitter indicates I am bound to receiver but nothing happens when I disconnect the computer. All seems I'm read for a test flight but nothing happend. Light on the board are lit up otors beep at start up, but nothng. What I have missed? Where do I look for what is wrong. Thanks

    Awesome video. I just finished building my first quad... naze32, X4R with sbus, emax 35A ESCs, etc. Currently, my Taranis is successfully getting telemetry from the quad, but my taranis inputs aren't showing up in betaflight. I checked the inputs and mixing and they should be correct. Any ideas on what's wrong? Been searching the internet for two days now...
    The weird thing is that when I tried to use the "MSP RX input" mode in the configuration tab just to try things out, the inputs didn't make the motors spin either. (the master motor slider does make the motors spin)
    Would really appreciate your help. Thanks!

      +David Xiao see our video in the sp3 series on the common connection setups. Older Naze32 boards may need an external inverter for sbus too...

    • @davidxiao64
      @davidxiao64 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, so I watched the sbus setup and the naze32 cleanflight setup. I verified I've been doing the same thing that you've said. Since I'm using the naze32 rev6 board, it shouldn't need the noninverted signal. I tried switching to softserial 2 instead of softserial 1 (had to revert back to betafligth 3.0.1). Nothing. Just in case the softserial doesn't take inverted signal, I also just tried using the noninverted signal. Nothing.

    I am using a RadioLink AT9S. When I go to cleanflight and select serial and SBUS, the quad beeps, motors reset etc.. However, when I go to the page that reports out the stick inputs, it still doesn't show the the sticks are moving when I move them. When I go back to the page where you can select the Receiver, it doesn't show that it is on SBUS.. it just has the pull-down selector.. if I pick SBUS, I get the same results. . Note The transmitter appears paired as it has the bars showing connection. Any ideas?

    • @Painless360

      Every manufacturer has their own version of the radio protocol. The result of this means that most radios have to have a very specific receiver in order for it all to work together. See my video about it in the 'introduction to remote control' playlist on the channel. Lots of other things in there too, that you might find interesting. Best of luck!

    Hello Painless360. I've got my FS-I6S, i set up PPM output, stick mode M2, gave +5V and GND only the CH1 on the receiver and i have connected to the signal pins from receiver CH1 to APM input 1, receiver CH2 to APM input 2 and so on..., but it does not work, usually i have one channel which i can see something changing in the RC calibration, but others don't do anything when i am moving the sticks. Could You help me what can be the problem?

      I've got the receiver coming on whenever I plug the battery in, but if I have the SBUS wires plugged in as well, then the flight controller lights nor the receiver seems to come on, any particular reason that might be?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That looks like you're connecting the SBUS connector into all the negative pins on the Rx, essentially shorting the GND, 5V and s_bus pins.. If that's what you're doing you're lucky you didn't cook something with the short..

    • @gchester98
      @gchester98 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Painless360 There's a bottom 4th row of pins for the SBUS connectors that goes (-, +, signal) it isn't the negative pins.

    • @gchester98
      @gchester98 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's why I'm confused because the way it is acting I would assume the same thing, but whenever I'm looking at the wiring diagram for the SBUS connections its telling me to go to the bottom row below the negative pins and to put them in that order. Anywhere else you might suggest to begin troubleshooting?

      Almost all receivers use the 5v output on the flight controller to power the receiver (the exception being the Spektrum Satellite Recovers that need 3.3v). The 5v power output on most boards is well regulated so you don't have to worry about it in use. Best of luck with the build..

    Hello, Painless360. I am currently building my Dubai 210 Racer. I soldered everything, but i found that i cannot seem to connect my fs-ia6 RX with the F3 Flight Controller. I am using Fs-i6 Transmitter and successfully bound it with the RX. However i power the RX by UART1 on the FC and i have plugged all the cables from I0-1 and I0-2, but i get no response whatsoever. Any help would be great. (First build)

    I can't get betaflight to recognize my transmitter. I'm using the FS-i6s TX and have successfully got it to bind to my RX. When both are powered up, my TX can see the battery power of my RX, so I'm assuming it is bound successfully. Now when I go into Betaflight, under configuration I have receiver mode set to PPM RX input. When I then click on the receiver tab and test my TX nothing happens. I have gone to the Ports tab, and tried turning the Serial RX on for both UART2 and UART3 separately, saved and rebooted, but this has not helped either. Further info: I have the battery plugged in while betaflight is on so that my RX is receiving power. I am using the SPF3 FC. Betaflight recognizes my fc being plugged in and is following movements correctly. I am brand new to this hobby and I'm at a loss of what else I can do. Idk how many hours I've spent reading other peoples problems (and your videos) and how they fixed it but it doesn't seem their problem is the same as mine (which I have no idea what the problem is). Do you have any suggestions?

    • @Painless360

    Thanks

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The ports tab tells the flight controller how it's connected to things (radio reciever, telemetry, sensors, Vtx units esc.). The VCP bit is about making sure that it 'talks' MPS user the USB connection. MSP is short from Multiwii serial protocol and is how the configurator app on you computer talks to the board.. hope that helps, see my Quadcopter building for more tips..

      I started from scratch and did the following:
      1. Bind the radio to the receiver (radio shows RX signal)
      2. On Cleanflight, i flashed firmware (No Reboot sequence, Full chip erase, Manual baud rate (256000). I did this after shorting the boot pads and got a solid red light).
      3. Load Firmware (Online)
      4. Flash Firmware (it worked and i got a successful message on Cleanflight.
      5. Connected FC to Cleanflight.
      6. Set Receiver to PPM RX
      The gyro appears to be working as it shows up on Cleanflight and is responsive. However, there is no response when i move the radio sticks.

      Please check out the 'Introduction to Remote Control' series, I answer this (and a lot more of the basics) in those videos. Best of luck!

    Is there a cheaper controller that would work?

    • @Painless360
      @Painless360  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dhruv Singh this one is the cheapest one we'd recommend. The other would be the Turnigy Evolution..

      Painless360 do you think this would be a good kit to start with? I've never built a helicopter before and this looks really interesting. I will surely use these videos of yours but I'm a little hesitant if I can do it since it looks complicated

      But I feel like I can do it with these videos

      Most of the kits now come with a decent range of components. We have also looked at a lot of the RTF/BNF models on the channel too. They all follow pretty much the same build process.. Best of luck!

      Please see the main SP3 series that we link to though this series. In there are lots more detail on setting up the board and also a video tat covers common Rx connections like s_bus too. Google 's-bus painless360' to find lots of helpful stuff. Best of luck!

    Hi, I binded my receiver and I can see input on betaflight, also can control motors on betaflight. Once i disconnect from betaflight I cannot control my motors with my transmitter. Do you know of any solutions?

      +Kinga what have you already tried? Are you aiming the flight controller?

      This is my first drone build so I am quite noob at this, but for my understanding I have connected the receiver to the flight controller and the motors to the flight controller and I have binded my radio to my receiver. In betaflight, I see input from my radio (only in betaflight though), I can also controll my motors through betaflight. So my motors and radio are working (i think).I guess I'm just not sure what to do next.

      +Kinga all I can suggest is watch all the videos in this series one after the other, I cover every single step to get your model in the air. Best of luck

      I watched the setting up cleanflight video, and I have esc that use DSHOT150 and 300, i set it up the way you do using oneshot 150 and setting the max throttle and min throttle which made the esc make sounds (which I think completed the configuration), but there is still no input from radio after I disconnect from cleanflight. Does this have something to do with DSHOT or my esc? A blue led turns on and blinks when I use throttle on my radio. Also blinks once each time I use the B switch on my radio. Im not sure if this information helps solve the issue or if i should just keep digging. I'm just confused motors work inside cleanflight but not when I disconnect from it. I also soldered the motors in the wrong spot on the FC is that has anything to do with it (thought that would just make it fly awful but i just want to see if the motors work with my radio)
