I had exactly the same thoughts about Summer colours being boring but once I was analysed I could really see my features pop and realised that actually the brighter colours are lovely but they make ME look boring. Summer colours are never boring on a Summer. I'm a Dark Summer so I thought I was a Winter at first. 😊
@@vickilouise7764 Yes and I've discovered that every season will have softs and brights within their palette. Every palette can use high or low contrast too. 😊
Thanks for this - was fun learning abt the summer subseasons, although I'm not a summer. I do have summer colors in my wardrobe, though - can't let go yet. Lol. Thanks for the vid. Cheers!
Hi Vicki, this is really interesting that I've found your videos! I've just been typed by a professional online as a true summer, but I wonder what I'd be with HOC - probably a true or deep. I'm trying to get to grips with my season as it's the last one I expected. All of my clothes are neutral/warm. I just tried on a blue shirt and it felt way too bright & I think I'm just not used to it! Denim shirts and denim dresses might be a good addition for a Summer palette wardrobe, as the washed denim gives soft tones of blue through to grey toned navy. So trying those next I think. I've just ordered some cooler taupe/rosy makeup (all mine is warm! But I have that classic 'sitting on top of my skin' effect with that whereas warm makeup blends naturally with your complexion!) - I don't think I'll be able to fully rid myself of my beiges, cream, black and very dark red browns though! I can't stand wearing pastels and grey 🤣 It will definitely be a slow adjustment for me - if anyone wants to drop any tips I'd love some :)
With HoC you would be a sweet pea summer. It may take some time for you to get used to your colours and figure out the ones you feel most comfortable in. Try starting with your summer colours close to your face (tops, scarves and lipstick) so you can quickly get used to how these colours make your skin seem. See as well if people start to comment on your appearance! You'll have to keep me updated on your journey :)
If you are one season (ex: summer or spring) do you need to stick to your sub season? or can you do all of them- like if u are a spring you can follow any of the spring sub seasons?
You don't need to stick to your subseason, you can wear colours from your entire season :) But the subseason colours will generally look better on you.
The lady who did my analysis only told me i was a summer, not my subseason. I tried to figure it out myself, but i have wow colors from each of these groups so I'm confused. Does that mean I'm a true summer?
I'd get back in contact with your consultant and ask for a subseason. Which subseason do you have the most wow colours from? Lots of people can also be a combination of subseasons, so for autumn people can be leaf blue, or vibrant leaf. You may just be lucky and have wow colours across all subseasons but do double check with your consultant :)
I mostly carried boho autumn outfits. I found out I’m completely the opposite. 😂 I’m a sweet pea summer with romantic being my main essence/style and inguene being my second I’m struggling bad with my bottom half and not pairing my colors with black pants I’m also wondering why house of color doesn’t cover the ethereal style because I sit more with that than inguene
Your essences would work really well with your colour season! It is hard to give up black as it is a colour that can pair well with lots of others, but your season will have your better than black colour. I'm not sure why HoC don't cover ethereal, but if it suits you absolutely go for it.
Denim isn't but there's a shade of denim to suit each season - so for summers a light wash cool blue. As an autumn, my best denim is a dark wash that is also muted.
Do you know of any Brown Summer people to follow on Instagram or TH-cam? I was recently typed a brown Summer after being a Dark Autumn. Looking for some inspiration to get into an entirely different set of colors.
I dont understand these sub seasons. My house of color stylist put me at "mid summer" what is that? No one talks about mid. Also I absolutely hate all of the colors I was styled with none of them popped out as wow to me and I'd rather die than be forced to wear the absolutely hideous colors in my palette!
Oh I don’t know what mid summer is! Do any of your wow colours match the colours in the sub seasons I spoke about? Have you had any compliments when wearing your new colours? If you don’t like them then there’s absolutely no obligation to wear them, only wear what you like to wear!
@@vickilouise7764 another analyst (Carol Brailey), has said that those with natural red hair will always have warm undertones. So I'm not sure abt redheads being winter, either.
Redheads can be cool because House of Colour doesn't look at eye or hair colour. They focus on what the different colours actually do to the skin rather than the old school stereotypes (such as "all redheads are warm", "all blondes are spring or summer", "dark hair and eyes makes you a winter or autumn", etc. These are all arbitrary rules - while some types of hair and eye colour are more common in some seasons than others, human colouring isn't always that straight forward and nature doesn't care about what a colour consultant says). More and more colour systems (House of Colour, SciArt etc) and individual consultants are veering away from the hair+skin+eye color = x season formula of yore. What matters most is how you actually look in the colours, and skin is the best thing to look at, as skin is a typical indicator of health. You can prefer some palette colours with some hair colours, but that's a different thing. If summer colours look the best of you, but you look like a stereotypical autumn - what would you choose? The colours you actually suit, or the palette you "should" be based on stereotypes (and which doesn't suit you)? Naturally, I presume you'd choose the palette that actually suits you. Therefore, the best is to keep an open mind and see what the colours actually do to the person, no matter if the end result is surprising/unexpected or not. That something is rare or uncommon doesn't mean that it doesn't exist
Recent subscriber here. I enjoy your videos but I found the description of a stereotypical summer unnecessary, eurocentric, and off-putting. If there are exceptions to the stereotype then did it even need to be mentioned? Won't it just confuse people more? As one of the many ethnicities with black hair and black eyes, jesus it made me feel so excluded.
I'm so sorry my video made you feel excluded, that was not my intention at all. You're absolutely right - colour seasons are very eurocentric and I've clearly contributed to that here. I included stereotypical descriptions in each of these videos to give people a rough idea but ofc they're eurocentric stereotypes that aren't helpful at all if you don't fit that description. There are a vast range of ethnicities across all the different subseasons and I should have done better to explain that. Thanks for bringing this to my attention and I'll make sure to be more inclusive in future videos ❤️

Perfectly put! You will never look boring wearing your own season's colours :)

Thank you so much for this, especially the suggestions for make up in my sub season. I love to wear pink and already had a lot of it in my wardrobe.

I am loving these videos, Vicki. Thank you so much for doing them. I also really appreciate your capsule wardrobe video too.

Natural red hair is a winter? I do not think that’s possible…
It’s what she said! 🤷🏼♀️
@@vickilouise7764 That makes me totally distrust her expertise, unless that redhead was not natural. I would check into that.
