    Comparing True Summer Makeup with Bright Winter Makeup to find my color season. Professionally draped as a Bright Winter.
    The lipstick is wearing you. You look clownish in that bright pink blush. Those colors are overpowering you. You are not high contrast enough for winter. It has nothing to do with color. Only your attitude changed.
    I've heard it all, and now is the moment of truth. Did I get it wrong again? Are Summer colors really a better fit for me than Bright Winter colors? Or do I need the colors of bright winter to look fully healthy and alive? Let me know in the comments below. So glad to be back! Thanks for watching and please subscribe to remind me that all the hours of editing are really worth it.
    With love and bright colors,
    Bridget

    Honestly I think it’s because most people prefer muted, warm makeup right now so the bright fuchsia lipstick seems shocking. You’re right though, bright winter suits you.

    While you DO look gorgeous either way, i think it’s clear that you’re a bright winter! It just lifts your face and compliments all of your already beautiful features, whereas the summer side just kind of sits on your face and mutes your features. You and the professional definitely got it right! I don’t think the bright winter colors wear you at all.

      AGREED! Also, I just watched a tutorial that showed WHY we can wear (some of) the opposite side of the color wheel as Audrey Hepburn did (and look great)...it is complimentary to our (bright winter's) cool undertones as well, opening up this observation that some summer colors will look FAB on a winter (as it did on her), but not overrule the BEST "season" and subtype that you are. This probably caused some people to get confused (when they thought you were a summer). But there is ONE clear winner when we truly do our colors. It takes a bit of effort to find out where we fall sometimes if we don't have 100% OBVIOUS coloring/undertones, value, chroma ect. Your channel is great b/c a lot of people are just discovering these things. I think it's from all the make up tutorials out there. We are buying make up that looks great on someone else and NOT US. So we are figuring out that OUR BEST color scheme is what is important, not the pretty pot of eyeshadow or the end result of somebody else's make up! GREAT videos. Blessings. Those summer colors that looked great on you with the bright winter make up work great! But ALL of the bright winters were perfect!

    People online in the "color analysis" community definitely seem to have a lot of misconceptions when it comes to muted vs bright, and seem especially "gatekeepery" in regards to Winter in particular. It feels like they take that "snow-white" stereotype of extreme contrast and apply it as the gold-standard of what "high contrast" means. But it's just that, a stereotype -- and the range of natural coloring within Winter is so much more diverse than that one iteration! I myself thought I was a True Summer for YEARS, and most people online typed me as that too. But it never felt 100% right, and so I got professionally draped -- turns out I was a True Winter, and all the pieces fell into place!

    • @BridgetCappel
      @BridgetCappel  ปีที่แล้ว +10

      The thing is, the summer colors mute us, and make us appear “muted” and I think that is what they are seeing whether it looks harmonious or not. Also as far as bright winter coloring goes, it is the lightest of the winters so that strong black and white contrast on us that works well on a True Winter, will overwhelm a bright winter. High contrast is more than just black and white, bright winters have high contrast in light, dark, and also in terms of saturation- a high saturation that would overwhelm a True Winter. You really have to understand the nuances of color to have a good handle on this system and even then, it’s impossible to accurately categorize a person based on sight alone, especially on the internet. You need to be draped under full spectrum lighting. Also, and I know I’m rambling, the celebrities that are bright winter that I am compared to in the comments ALL have dyed hair that is certainly darker/deeper than their natural color. Bright winters don’t all have jet black hair naturally and on some bright winters, hair that dark does not harmonize with our coloring.

    • @Snoozler
      @Snoozler ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@BridgetCappel 100% agree - especially the first point about muted colors making us appear muted - it sort of "blends" in a way that can make it seem as though it's harmonious, especially when only looking at photos. But in reality, the more saturated colors are so much better for how the skin looks.

    • @SueRosalie

      when you see the Bright Winter colours draped on a True Winter, they just look too bright. Not bad, but just not as good as the true winter colours on them.

      @@BridgetCappel. That reminds me a lot of Bright Spring. Some people think you have to have darker coloring to be Bright Spring, but the coolest of Springs are Bright Spring (still Warm-Neutral, just closer to Neutral). We are also, often, the lightest. I’m too Ivory for for all of the Light Spring pastels and can only wear the brighter colors in that palette. Light Springs have the least contrast between eyes, hair, and skin, but they often tan better than Bright Springs, which makes them look fresh in very light yellows, peach, greens, and blue greens.

    1000000% Bright Winter--No question. True Summer washes you out and makes your skin look dull. I had the exact same effect on my skin over the weekend when I had my colors done professionally. I am also a Bright Winter, and the Summer colors washed me out just like it's doing to you. I mean, just look at how the bright lipstick INSTANTLY lights up your eyes. It's a dead giveaway but confirmed by the color swatches you put up to your face. :)

      Yes! I loved the instructions you used. I’ve had color analysis done, but was determined to be between Light Spring and Bright Spring. I don’t have a lot of contrast between my hair and skin, but my eyes are a bright medium/dark green. My hair is high chroma Strawberry, just not high contrast. I would like to know if I’m a straight up Bright Spring, as I feel better with more color, similar to how you apply your makeup, but with warmer colors. My analyst didn’t do , or discuss, makeup and I think it was really helpful that you did that! I want to know if I really need to buy some lighter clothes, or if I’ve been doing right, all along. I want the truth…not just confirmation that I’m right, so I don’t have to change. Clearly, you have a great method. I thought, for sure, you were a color analyst, yourself! She’s not True Summer. Definitely Bright Winter!

I recently started researching my own colors and for years have worn bright red lips and black liquid eyeliner, so when my 'true summer' results came back it was weirdly kinda painful. something people always get wrong about color analysis is colors are supposed to make you pop and stand out, not make you lost in them. ive been told i must be a summer countless times, even got told in forums my primary aspect was muted when ive been analyzed as a bright winter twice.
    Another thing is people confuse color analysis with image consultation. A color/hair color supposed to fit you the most might actually not look the best on you for other specific reasons, a color might bring out your skin but lets say it also emphazises your eyes when your eyes are "ugly" per se (just an example lmao) then maybe another color would kinda conceal that and make your image look more even. But this is related to other things such as visual weight of the face or features, not color analysis.

    This video actually helped me a little, being a bright winter with some self doubts recently. 😅

      Haha I feel that way sometimes too. Especially the celebrities- we have to remember that they are professionally styled, hair colored, made up, and photographed so they are an enhanced example of in this case bright winter. I’ve seen first hand that bright season people look sallow and like that gray wall you mentioned in anything that isn’t bright enough so that might cause people to think they are in fact muted and need to replicate that sallow look in their clothes which does brights absolutely zero favors 😅

      Also, I think it's easy to be mistaken as not being bright (winter or spring) if you're not at your best physically (sick, tired, burnet/too tanned from the sun or other skin issues that can make you either pale, dull or too red), thus having your usual colors look faded or just with lower contrast then usual.

    I would love a video about how you shop for clothes in the bright winter palette. A lot of stores just have nothing (or maybe black) 😢

      @@BridgetCappel. Lol! I used to buy Summer clothes, because everyone told me I was Summer. I’m Spring. Now, I wear my Summer clothes, when I want my doctors to take me seriously! Summers could provoke sympathy, by wearing my bright yellows and oranges, I’m sure…and let’s not forget the yellow-greens!

    Im a bright winter too and still love some summer colors, they are cool toned at the end of the day and much more flattering than warm colors.
    I guess people thought you were a summer since your face looks softer but the contrast is definitely there, most people look bad on super vibrant colors while just get a very healthy glow from them.

    I think partly where people get confused is you are thinking of what looks more "natural" on someone as their colors. But like, everyone one looks more "natural" in natural colors. It's about what makes your skin look good and what makes you "pop" in a positive way. I think I am a summer instead of a winter but I love some really bright colors so I buy them anyway when I can get away with it (clothes). I definitely do NOT do winter makeup though because it makes me look like a clown.

      I wonder if those who thought the bright winter wasn't right for her is more indicative of their own personal preference or maybe even comfort level...perhaps they were taken-aback by the "boldness" of those colors. There's a sort of sassy, maybe even audacious quality of wearing bright bold colors and I think it sometimes makes people feel uncomfortable. I personally thought the bright winter colors make her look stunning (she's stunning regardless) lol.

      I agree! A lot of people find bright colors off-putting. I think of them as really fresh and fun! They have a certain exuberance to them. Women get the message that we shouldn’t be, “too much,” but no one should have to hide their sparkle, to make others comfortable.

      @@BridgetCappel Exactly this! Very true! It is somehow easy to imagine that darker, softer or warmer tones are better or safer options but that is never true. May I ask what is your opinion about dying our hair colour as bright winters? Is it a good option to consider? I have the same hair colour as yourself but with a slight auburn tone to it that shows up stark lighting, very fair neutral skin and dark olive eyes. I am thinking of changing my hair to red or blonde. I think it works well well my features? But... would it still fit with my bright winter wardrobe to?. Or would I then become a bright spring and need to buy some new clothes? Any reflections on this? 😍 Thank you so much

She just has one of those minds that can quickly master anything with a set of rules and guidelines, as long as they are based on sound theory. I don’t doubt she can handle abstract theory, as well, as long as the premises are valid. She can pose important challenges to any weak theory, as we see here! ❤ 👩🏻‍🏫

    I have a harder time telling with the makeup-maybe since it’s just on half your face but the difference with the drapes is incredible! You look crisp and clear in the winter colors but the summer colors make you look a little sallow.
    Also side-note-I know a lot of online pallets don’t have red for summers but I found a swatch palette on Etsy (style solutions for you is the seller name) that included several reds in the true summer palette and I think Carol Brailey who is a professional color analyst with a TH-cam Chanel has some reds included in her true summer palette

    I’ve been so confused on what season I am. By far my prettiest picture has been in a bright medium blue denim jacket. For myself ~ I really prefer the no make-up, make-up look. Think I will try a comparison like your on myself. I probably have some clothes in different seasons to get started. trying brighter make-up might take a trip to the drug store.
