1987 Fleer Basketball is the absolute toughest set I've ever graded. The printing issues are absolutely horrendous! Many can't be seen unless you use a magnifying glass.

Card grading is definitely a scam ,especially the vintage,l think that the card companies put pressure on the grading companies to low grade vintage cards because they aren't making any money on them.
Geoff, Love this set. One of my favorites. I actually have the complete set in PSA 9/10 condition. I will most likely never be able to complete it in PSA 10 condition because of cards like Joe Berry Carroll. I can’t afford to put that type of money into commons, but that’s ok…I still love having a complete set graded in high condition. I actually am working on the 1986 set in PSA 9 and the 1988 set in PSA 10 condition. I have really enjoyed trying to piece these together. There are a couple of higher priced ones in the 1988 set that are commons, but because of low pop…they command high prices, but not nearly as high as the 1987 low pop ones.
The fact that you 2 completely agree that grading is subjective from one grading company to another. Why not do a comparison video using Tag's AI grading? There is a strong opinion out there that AI is where grading is headed. I'm not sure if I agree, but I do like their DIG report (clear transparency).
Completely agree. If people actually want unbiased detailed reviews of their card, TAG would be the way to go. But the hobby is all about value and profit now, so they go to the dinosaur monopoly company. It's sad.
@@dwiii1635 Business has been a big part of the hobby for many decades. I don't see the hobby dying because of it. People getting burnt in the hobby will eventually just leave the hobby or learn to make smarter purchases.
I'm sure they set out to buy a 10k box to lose 4k....wtf are you new to collecting? Every pack is a potential lottery ticket.....I applaud them for this break!
Bgs is awesome....I have a few, and good cards....but way early on I made a decision to strictly collect PSA.....bias maybe so but I'm meticulous about my collection being uniform and of value
What would you say to someone that brought a Joe Carroll card, and asking to trade for all 7 of your graded mjs, your gem mint 10 Wilkins, and all of those other cards? I think you'd laugh in his face lol. I know the last one sold for 4k, but those people willing to spend that kind of money on a nobody name are very few if you can find anymore of them at all.
Thanks - this was fun. Sadly like most box breaks there isn't money to be made (1987 Fleer box was about $12,000 + grading probably at $1,800 but sale prices maybe $6,000). Sorry.
it annoys the heck out of me when people use box cutters on the boxes , take a few seconds extra to open the box carefully , I am sure many people would love to have them for displays without huge slice marks all over them ! .

I have been collecting 1987 fleer strictly for the better part of the 2000s and I can tell you they are the toughest cards to get PSA 10s and not because of PSA but if you watch the video fully, and take note of what they are saying, and look at the comps side to side each card is different....remember my friend this was 1987 not 2024 cards....
@brianoneal2547 oh I know the difficulty. I've also seen psa give 10s to cards that in no way at 10s. Their consistency is terrible. Pop control would at least explain some of that.

There are so many johnny come latelys in the hobby that it's quite comical.....this thread tells the story....people complaining about grading Joe Barry Carrol....if they hadn't they would have left 4k sitting on the table....
Opening rare and expensive vintage boxes and packs is a losing investment and the dumbest thing you can do. The value is the fact that they are still in tact and unopened and you’re not going to get high grades on most of the cards because of all the low printing quality. Even high grades you’ll lose your money. Only way it makes any sense would be like what Jeff is doing having a big following and using it for content.
I still trust SGC over PSA. That being said, I still don't understand why people use grading companies that will tell you what the flaws are. It's 2024, no reason for mystery anymore.

Just curious, why is there so much excitement over a SGC 9.5. But when you guys talk about BGS 9.5's, it's automatically like beckett doesn't know how to run a company using 9.5 grades. Their stuck in the past. Blah blah blah. Come on now. Then you praise PSA for being top dog and they screwed up half your order about a month ago with authentic grades instead of number grades. And the only reason you guys give for such high praise is that they pump out the most graded cards in a month. If their pumping out so many, you don't think the quality control aspect of things is taking a hit and tarnishing their reputation, especially when your order comes back with the wrong with authentic grades. Also I do enjoy the content. Gives us old card nerds something to talk about.
