If Waze or other apps aren't working on your phone and you've already tried the fix in this video, try these other options: 1. Under Location Settings --> Permissions make sure that Waze (or other app) is changed to Always Allow 2. Change the battery optimization setting to Unrestricted instead of Optimized 3. Uninstall Waze (or other app) and install an earlier release - you might have to sideload the APK file. Seems like some people are having issues with the updated version
you are a lifesaver!! thank you so much . i was annoyed when only google maps was show on android auto. was not expecting you need to "add" the app manually
Worked on my Subaru, thanks so much for the detailed guide very well done. ❤ initially it said phone not supported but by activating developer mode it finally worked.
I have Waze on the list but it's still not showing in AA... nevermind. I followed the instructions in the pinned comment regarding location permissions. Working again.
Few days ago address search on Waze via Android auto is not available ,it shows "not while driving" before that it was "voice search only" that was also not practical for me since my native language is not supported . Is there a way to get on screen keyboard again working ?
Try removing the phone connection from the vehicle and the vehicle connection from your phone's bluetooth, then reconnect. You can also try a soft reboot on your screen to see if that solves the problem
How can I get to the radio screen if Waze is running? If I hit the Mode button, that just cycles me through FM, AM, and Sirius, but I want to get to that screen. I have a 2024 Rav4. Thank you! 😊
Under Location Settings --> Permissions make sure that Waze is changed to Always Allow. Could also try changing the battery optimization setting to Unrestricted instead of Optimized. If that doesn't work, uninstall Waze and install an earlier release - you might have to sideload the APK file. Seems like some people are having issues with the updated version.
@carswithsteve - it didn't seem as straightforward as that, I had to do a few things. However, you definitely add me on the right path and ultimately I got ways on to the stereo. YOU ARE APPRECIATED
@CarsWithSteve - question for you. Even though I connected my phone contact list to the Pioneer 3800 NEX, it doesn't seem to recognize any of my contacts. If I say make a call, it will say who do you want to call, and I say a person's name and it just comes back and says something went wrong. If I say I want to send a text that says who do you want to send it to, I could say a different person's name in my contact list, and it won't work. If you could help that would be immensely appreciated.
I didn't know about developer options for AA! thanks for the info! My issue with Waze is that it auto starts every time I connect my phone to my car. I couldn't figure out how to turn it off. Even when force quit it on the phone, it automatically turns back on! I don't need to use Waze all the time for my daily commutes. It consumes my precious data, as I'm on a prepaid plan. Any walk around to how to disable the auto start? thanks
You're welcome! Surprisingly Waze auto starting is a bug that developers know about but it doesn't seem like there's an easy fix available yet. Some people have tried setting Google Maps as their default map application or you could just disable Waze completely until you need it again. If Waze does push out an update that I catch, I'll swing back to update on it!
Just turn off gps location on your phone, the head unit will just tell you to enable location and will not load maps until you do. Thats what i do to conserve battery too as dont need to view maps to go to and from work every day
Android Auto should default to whatever map application was opened last on your phone. You could try to set it as the default map app in Settings --> Apps --> Default Apps
There should be a little icon on the bottom right side of the screen that's a single lane split into 2, press that and then you should see the option to see additional routes
Waze keeps disappearing after security updates are installed and I have to go through all these steps. Waze didn't show up in the 'customize launcher' until I restarted the phone. Guess I'll have to save this video so I can hopefully remember how to do this next time.
Since the 1st march update of android auto, it seems even using this method to try and get waze on custom screen, waze can not be viewed on my head unit, was working perfectly prior to update tho. And ideas?
Thankyou for your help, had changed these, but missed the one that removes permissions if unused for 1 week, turned that off now so saves settings, hopefully
Depends on which car you're in. This video was shot in the Ford Maverick which only has the option for Android Auto via USB.. some manufacturers support wireless while others are still wired
If you want to use this system in Eastern EU say in Bulgaria it will work ONLY regard names and places on the maps in the cyrillic alphabet, Google maps shows both Latin and Cyrillic. So, if its only Latin for you, don't bother to use it in B.G. Or Russia for example..
For some reason the only way I can get Waze works on my Audi is with a cable connection. I have to set the destination on my phone on Waze, then plug in using a cable. Then waze will show on my in car AA launcher. TH-cam music wont show up at all. I followed your steps to no avail. So frustrating that AA has blocked these apps.
Don't believe the Corvette got support for Android Auto or CarPlay until the 2016 models.. You can install a new head unit from a 2016 that features support for both but you're looking at about $1k for a programmed screen
If you've already downloaded Waze onto your phone, follow the steps in this video. There's also a pinned comment with other options if the steps in this video don't work
Have you tried a soft screen reboot for your vehicle's infotainment system? Next step from there would be a phone reboot if you haven't tried that and then a factory reset for the infotainment system
I think the Uber Driver app was recently added to the Google Play Store. If you have the app on your phone this process should enable it. If it's still not showing, check out the pinned comment on this video that talks you through a few other things you can do
That's going to depend on which car you have! Some support wireless Android Auto while others are wired.. but the wireless versions are backwards compatible
If Waze or other apps aren't working on your phone and you've already tried the fix in this video, try these other options:
1. Under Location Settings --> Permissions make sure that Waze (or other app) is changed to Always Allow
2. Change the battery optimization setting to Unrestricted instead of Optimized

Where do you find this in the s24 ultra? I just got the phone and can't get waze now through my truck...ugh
you are a lifesaver!! thank you so much . i was annoyed when only google maps was show on android auto. was not expecting you need to "add" the app manually
You're welcome! Kind of a pain that it doesn't just work for sure
No blabla just to the point ....thank u
You're welcome!
Thanks very much for that - clear instructions and easy to follow, and the bonus - it worked !
You’re welcome! Always good when it actually works
Worked on my Subaru, thanks so much for the detailed guide very well done. ❤ initially it said phone not supported but by activating developer mode it finally worked.
You're welcome, glad the video helped!
I have s24 ultra. It worked for me when i changed battery optimization to unrestricted in waze application info. thanks!!!
Awesome, good to know that fix is still working. Cheers!
Brilliant. Method worked on a 2024 Toyota Hiace. Thank you Steve !

You're welcome Yiannis, glad the video helped!
This worked. To enable waze on android auto launcher by allowing unknown sources from developer options
Good to know!
Dude haha your the man ,thanks.

You're welcome!
Thank you..works now
You’re welcome!
Dude!!! Your the bomb!
Haha thanks!
I have Waze on the list but it's still not showing in AA... nevermind. I followed the instructions in the pinned comment regarding location permissions. Working again.
Awesome, I was just about to mention that!
Thank you!
You're welcome!
this worked. thanks

Usually when you're on the icon screen in Android Auto you'll see an icon with the manufacturer logo, that'll bring you back to the home screen
Did not work with Samsung 23 Ultra and brand new Pioneer car stereo professional install. Yes, I tried developer mode
That issue was happening to mee on the same Samsung Galaxy s23 plus, I unrestricted the battery and it worked, thank you so much for your help 🎉🎉🎉
Awesome, I'm going to have to pin a comment with that fix!
@carswithsteve - it didn't seem as straightforward as that, I had to do a few things. However, you definitely add me on the right path and ultimately I got ways on to the stereo.

How do I get waze too pop up straight away on the screen? It always opens google maps first then I have too click on waze
Is it possible to make Waze default over Google Maps when we connect? Thanks so much in advance!
Android Auto should default to whatever map application was opened last on your phone. You could try to set it as the default map app in Settings --> Apps --> Default Apps
I was able to get Waze on my HR-V but I can't view alternate routes while driving like I can on my phone. Any fix for that? Thanks!
There should be a little icon on the bottom right side of the screen that's a single lane split into 2, press that and then you should see the option to see additional routes

Thankyou for your help, had changed these, but missed the one that removes permissions if unused for 1 week, turned that off now so saves settings, hopefully
you're welcome!
Hi. Is this possible to connect without a cable?
Depends on which car you're in. This video was shot in the Ford Maverick which only has the option for Android Auto via USB.. some manufacturers support wireless while others are still wired

Hmm interesting. Wasn't aware that was the case for Waze internationally. Thanks for pointing it out
For some reason the only way I can get Waze works on my Audi is with a cable connection. I have to set the destination on my phone on Waze, then plug in using a cable. Then waze will show on my in car AA launcher. TH-cam music wont show up at all. I followed your steps to no avail. So frustrating that AA has blocked these apps.
Have you tried the pinned comment on the video to see if that fixes it? I haven't started reviewing Audi yet but I'll keep this in mind when I do
It worked here. Thank you very much.
You're welcome, glad it worked for you!
What about other app like TH-cam?
TH-cam music can be added but Android Auto doesn't currently support TH-cam video playback
I have a 2014 Corvette stingray I cannot get my apps how can I do this through Android auto
Don't believe the Corvette got support for Android Auto or CarPlay until the 2016 models.. You can install a new head unit from a 2016 that features support for both but you're looking at about $1k for a programmed screen
hey brother my waze app doesn't show on android auto did u download on the play store or its the 3rd party app bro
I downloaded the app from the play store! Download the app first and if it's not showing, then follow this video
yea bro wen i download from the play store it shows on android auto but wen i download from 3rd party app it does not show. Do u know to fix that bro.
If you've already downloaded Waze onto your phone, follow the steps in this video. There's also a pinned comment with other options if the steps in this video don't work
Waze work straight from the app. As soon as I connect the cable it pops up on the screen - this is in a Toyota.
That's good
Did all this waze still isn't showing up
Have you tried a soft screen reboot for your vehicle's infotainment system? Next step from there would be a phone reboot if you haven't tried that and then a factory reset for the infotainment system
At time 2:35. I see Android Auto is just as flaky on your car as it is on mine.
Haha yes it is!
Okay can I add Samsung app to my android Auto? if so ..How?
Which app are you trying to add in to Android auto? Samsung has a boat load of built in apps...
Hi how to use uber app on anroid auto plz help
I think the Uber Driver app was recently added to the Google Play Store. If you have the app on your phone this process should enable it. If it's still not showing, check out the pinned comment on this video that talks you through a few other things you can do
Hi mate I still can't use uber on anroid auto . Still it doesn't show on my car screen
There's a pinned comment on this video that talks you through changing battery optimization settings. Look for the comment and give that a try
Dude, you need to get a (new) 90° USB plug
Haha I picked up a new braided one recently. The OEM one was hurting a bit
Galaxy s10e, Android 12 doesn't show Waze
Assuming Waze is installed on your phone? Have you followed the directions in the video to get your phone into developer mode?
Doesn't work. You can't get into developer mode on latest android versions.
Could just be a temp bug.. have you tried the other suggestions in the pinned comment?
I just went to the whole process, and then I noticed the phone needs to be plugged in😅
That's going to depend on which car you have! Some support wireless Android Auto while others are wired.. but the wireless versions are backwards compatible
Thanks but Sooo confusing
What's confusing about it?
Not working man
Did you try the other steps in the pinned comment as well?
