    hey everyone! So i do get a lot of questions on how to build tattoos, either on your arms or legs, and how to incorporate other styles of tattoos into one piece. Today I thought I would have a nice chill sit down video and talk about the process of building the tattoos on my own arm, and some of the tips I picked up along the way.

    The fear of mixed styles looking "bad" has been the bane of my existence. After talking to an artist, recently, he provided an excellent point...If you're happy and confident about your tattoos/how they look, you can do whatever you want because people will know you love it.

    The best part of this video, hands down, was all of the "bloop" noises she made for spaces between tattoos

    This comment might be v weird but I'm going to do my best to explain what I'm trying to say. I've been watching your videos for about a year now, and something about this channel feels almost...homey? I really like how you don't use background music and you don't (or at least you don't seem like you do) put on a front for your audience, like a "TH-cam personality" that is separate from your real one. I also really like how you include us in some of your video topics, and the language you use (for example "our weekly tattoo talk show", "we did a video"). The way you do everything really makes it feel like we're all just hanging out while you also do a good job of presenting the information you have. I hope that made sense. Just wanted to let ya know I appreciate the content.

    • @chelseahamilton9672
      @chelseahamilton9672 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      That would be great! I want to eventually build up my wrist tattoo into a sleeve, but I have slight stretchmarks on my inner arm and wanted to know how that could affect a tattoo or if they can even be tattooed over. And the same with freckles/moles too, that would be so useful!

    • @cassharnett17
      @cassharnett17 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I have some stretch marks on my inner arms and haven't had any issue with them being tattooed over! My tattoos are line and dot work though, but it hasn't had any effect on the look of them and my artist didn't even bat an eye when doing them!!

      I have a tattoo on my hip/thigh & it's COVERED in stretch marks. In my experience those areas hurt a bit more & the stretch marks were puffy during healing. They're totally fine now. Took the ink just as well :) but uh yeah. Hurt a little bit more lol

    I'm definitely going to be creating a "patchwork sleeve", I only have one tattoo on my arm so far (it's fairly large ish but it's on the inside of my arm) and I think that's the way I want to go because a) I want to collect art from multiple artists and b) I have so many tattoos I want that I want to be able to have the space for them

    It was cool to see all your tattoos on your arm BUT I liked even more that you mentioned about what kind of tattoos you should get where, like if you really like something don't put it there because it's hidden. That's good for me to consider, I don't know if I ever get my whole arm covered with tattoos but at least I'll get some on arm and I want my fav ones to be seen by myself and others. I've started to watch your videos & I really like your TTT videos & other tattoo related videos, keep it going! :)

I've been a viewer for a while now, and though I already had a couple small pieces when I began watching your videos, your sleeve inspired me to start my own and to choose to build it entirely in the traditional style. Going with the small trinket tattoos can kinda look weird once you aquired like ten of them on a arm. My boyfriend is a tattooer and constantly is covering these small images to make a full sleeve. And not to mention the small tattoos are the most expensive in the shop.... you can get ten small tattoos for $1,000, or set up a consult for a sleeve and spend about the same. I always go for bigger peices! And I am so happy with my choices! But of course it is your body so do whatever you like:)

    I totes relate to getting the "irresponsible spending" train. As soon as I started working I threw 25% of my salary into getting tattoos. They are things that affirm me and make me feel good about my body so I will never see it as a waste. (it also helps that I still live and get fed by my mother)

  • @saltystevie5115

    I really love your perspective here, and this is something that (coincidentally) has been on my mind a LOT lately! I'm saving up for a sleeve and I have this vague idea of the area I want it to cover, but I had no idea what elements out of my ideas I should include, or how I should go about getting it tattooed (multiple sessions, different artists, or one big piece by the same artist). I really like the journey you went on for your sleeve, and I never thought about the concept of giving each part of your sleeve room to breathe so you can see and differentiate them a bit better! I think my process is going to be similar to yours, and now I can go in with all the advice you've given here in mind :) Thanks!

    I love the color cohesion in your tattoos because i feel it connects the dif styles. And the spaces make it seem more modern to me somehow? Idk i love your arm

    Thank you for mentioning your opinion on the inner arm tattoos, makes so much sense not to put your most favorite design there. Love you

    this is so well timed yesss, i just got the first piece in my first sleeve, which is gonna be all black and grey/blackwork pieces... doing a monochrome sleeve on my left arm has been my longest thought about project for sure, but im playing it by ear/desire in terms of what each individual piece will be. i love patchwork sleeves too, i think when theyre well placed the look of having lots of distinctly separate tattoos with some space between them is super cool and i really like the sort of "palm sized" to "open hand sized" range that pieces in these types of sleeves usually are.
    you should definitely do a video on your legs just to offer more stories and insight!! you did a great job here of being detailed about how certain size, placement, style, and even order decisions affected your sleeve building process and it helped a lot with thinking about where to go from here. plus i think your sleeve is really good and it was just cool to get a bit of a closer look at some of the individual pieces!

    Great video. I sort of unintentionally started a patchwork sleeve a few years back. I found an artist that I liked, got a few tattoos from him, saying it was going to be a traditional sleeve. But then I had the opportunity to move abroad.
    I've just passed the point where I can really get exactly what I want on this arm. Just awkward gaps to fill. At wish I'd planned it better but I really love getting a tattoo that "caps off" an area as you say. Watching it all come together.

    I'm so glad you made this video, I've been trying to figure out my forearm for a while. I never thought about getting a filler tattoo just because all of mine have meaning, but I think that I could totally jive with that, haha.

    i'm doing the same thing you did with my sleeves, i started from the top and went down through the arm. since i'd like to collect good artists the styles are a bit different but not too much, it goes from traditional to new traditional and i like the variety it creates. i'm also doing the "one sleeve colors, one sleeve black and grey" and leaving my legs mixed in styles an colors.

    I agree with you on the above elbow back of the arm tattoo. Hardly anyone ever notices mine really.
