- ♥ In today's video I go through some of the do's and don'ts of planning and executing a tattoo sleeve! I get asked questions about this sooo often that I thought it was about time I made a video covering the topic. There is a lot to say, and obviously these are all just recommendations. There are as many ways of planning a sleeve as there are people on the planet. But these are the recommendations from myself and some of my tattoo artists! Enjoy! True, but most likely LONG enough that she/ other young, people born beautiful will (a) run out of body space (b) wake up one day and realize that less is more, and how incredibly beautiful and desirable a nice, untatted body actually is.
Well, I personally have two arms so I think I'm gonna do one arm patchwork and the other one as one piece!

I’m glad I stumbled upon this comment! 💖 I have one arm completely tattooed with flowers and I wanted to do my other arm just patchwork but I wasn’t sure if I was going to look weird but I’m glad other people think the same as me! Don’t feel left out
Ana-Maria I was thinking the same thing, but my first two tattoos (getting first one in a couple months) are probably going to work best in color and on separate forearms. I’m not sure if having both forearms in color and both upper arms in black and gray would work well.
Your relaxed mentality gave me reassurance because I feel the same way deep down! I think people worry way too much about making sure the tattoo is significant. But it's okay to get a tattoo just because you love looking at it!
My patch work sleeve only has two or three sessions left to finish and I can’t wait 😭😭 I have a bunch of American traditional butterflies, spiders, centipedes, roses and daisies tied together with dots and stars. Just have to finish my elbow and the back of my forearm!!

I'm getting both arms done with patchwork. Currently both firearms are done, one with 3 different tattoos. The other has 2. The gaps are easily filled, since my arm tattoos are for my family, the small gaps just get filled with cool lines and shading. I like it
I’ve definitely been worrying way too much about placement and how to combine different themes in my first sleeve so thank you for the reassurance and encouragement! I feel like I’m a lot closer to finally starting now :)
I want so bad to get tattooed but no money no honey!! So im watching every tattoo video that there is on youtube just to be more mature when im finally getting one!!! Havent see you with so much make up in a long time but once again very beutiful

i’m doing a patchwork sleeve on my left arm! mine is mostly flowers, butterflies, birds very nature filled so any gaps i’ll just fill with more flowers lol but my right sleeve will be the more fun one! even though i’m loving my nature one
Glad to hear this info, not too long or drawn out, and I for one, really like your chill attitude about it, whilst still being informed about the different options out there (and also not being judgy) I know I want at least one sleeve, definitely video game themed, so while I work for funds, I have plenty of time to get some basics down, look at styles I enjoy and things like that. The only tattoo I have was a spur of the moment thing, doesn't look bad but its just boring on its own, so I might have to get it some friends as well.
At the moment I'm getting a Tokyo ghoul arm sleeve done and you help me figure out it Japanese style. I've been watching your vids for the last couple of years and you really help educate me about tattoos much appreciated.
Extremely helpful video!! I hope to slowly develop a patchwork sleeve with background coloring over the next 10-20 years and this video has been the most helpful by far!
I loved this video! Thank you! I have a "patchwork" sleeve, but it's a work in progress and that's what I love the most about it. I can add new tattoos whenever I want to, and I know it's going to change so much through the years (not just because of the fading). But I understand that you could want a whole sleeve of the same design. I agree, in my opinion you should'nt be scared to have different styles mixing in your sleeve or on your body, it can look so great! As long as you're happy with the way you look, I'd say do what feels right
Hey Katrin - I worked in a tattoo shop for several years and agree with your advice. Here in Florida we would get a lot of first timers and people wanting to get something to commemorate their vacation. I can't tell you how many fraternity and sorority letters we tattooed or how many people wanted a dolphin tattoo because they were visiting the beach or whatever cartoon character was popular that week. People need to please put some thought into their ink. Another tip: Make it interesting for the artist. I've gotten (and given) huge discounts on pieces because I wasn't just getting something from the flash that he (or she) had tattooed 500 times before. Artists appreciate a challenge and like to show off something different. You'll get a lot more than you paid for, I promise. Just my two pennies. Keep up the good work and cheers.
I did a planned out sleeve but I did whole areas in one go and did small passovers later. It turned out great

This was very informative and well done. I only have one small tattoo but I have over 30 ideas, some of them big and some are small. I definitely want two sleeves and this video gave me a good framework to how to think about it. I hope you have a great day!
I've been stressing over my newly started arm sleeves and I'm already starting leg work too. While I have confidence and trust in my amazing artists, I can't help but wonder if I'm giving them enough to work with or too much. I think it's just hard because I'm artistic in my head but I can't draw so it's hard for me to relay my ideas I think. But a lot of what you said in this video helped and I think you for that!
Currently working on a half body sleeve. So much work, yet it's coming along. Not worried about it being well planned, we plan 2 visits ahead of time.
Love the video! I watched many other videos I have one tattoo on my arm three others and other places... was going to plan a sleeve... all the other videos made me scared to tell the artist what I wanted because most of them were artist telling what they hated about people and tattoos😕 I have two ideas that I like and it makes me feel much better watching your video!

I like the “messy” look for patch tattoos, most of the time. It’s how I’m gonna do my arm. But, I know a few people that their’s just isn’t my taste. But it’s their body, not mine 🤷🏼♀️
I've planned my first sleeve (Batman and Joker in realistic style) and it was so important that all looks perfect and stick to the theme. 3 years later I still love my full sleeve, but now I'm really relaxed about it and my Halfsleeve has a mixed style and I'm not sure how to fill the other half to make it a full sleeve someday. But that's totally fine 😊

This video just made me feel better about my tattoos. I'm plugging away at my sleeves, I left one side open for a good 3/4 sleeve if I want; or i can just got piece by piece like the rest . I got to figure out what to add into the gaps. Soon I hope to add a new filler. 😎 awesome video ...

That's literally what I've been doing. Right arm has a theme and left arm is patch work. 12 sessions so far on my arms alone lol. I'm also 6'3 and a broad guy so my arms have a lot of canvas

Am getting mines the second way ,and eventually turn it into a sleeve.
My sleeve (which is still a WIP) is kinda a hybrid between patchwork and a cohesive sleeve. There’s a bunch of individual pieces but they’re all tied together with a blue wash in the back. Since there’s no line work, I couldn’t necessarily have done the steps of a cohesive sleeve
I think a sleeve idea should be the thing you want, but cant express in 1 picture. I have a WW2 sleeve, because I couldnt decide if i want planes, battleships, or tanks so i just went for all of them

Thank you for this very insightful video! Could you talk about cultural appropriation in tattoos? Like some people getting tribal tattoos or cultural/religious symbols that do not mean anything to them.

I've been drawing for 40yrs, I've designed several tattoos (including all of mine). I strongly believe that if you are going to get a tattoo it should mean something to you. My artist recently asked if I wanted to apprentice under him... Im still considering it. ANYWAY, Im working on a Heaven/Hell inspired sleeve.
I don’t think it needs to mean anything at all. But to each their own. 😊

Im planning on getting kind of a mix of the 2 sleeves. I have a theme for both my arms that I'm going for, but they're broad themes, so they can be filled with different things and isnt planned out to the T. :D

I got my first tattoo stained a few days ago. it is 1/4 rider of the apocalypse of Albrecht Dürer. I would like to have the whole picture pierced on my thigh but I just do not have the time and the money at the moment, but I can not wait to finish it.
What I’m doing is planning my upper arm and leaving my lower arm blank. I do plan do have a full sleeve one day but right now I don’t know what else I want so I’m creating an upper sleeve that can blend into other things. I may get some medium sized tattoos on my lower arm and tie them together and I may make a new plan for my lower arm one day. But I made it so that I have options.
I also have no tattoos on my other arm right now so who knows what will happen there
Also the upper arm is Harry Potter themed. With hogwarts on my outer arm and the stag patronus on my inner arm

I'm currently working on a patch sleeve that I started 4 years ago hahaha. I get impatient working on it cause trying to fill in the spots with the appropriate colors and sizes is kinda hard to do
I kind of want to do one complete themed one and one patchwork one just cause why not
I get my half-sleeve completed in 8 hours, lines, shading and colours... Is a galaxy all around my lower arm and it was awful, not the tattooing process as if, but the healing, as I have this inflammation all over my lover arm (it looked like a big sausage) so my hand get inflamated too during poor circulation so I had to have the arm up during a week, if I let my arm fall down my hand feel like it was going to explode in matter of seconds, but it worth it as it looks awesome now... It was my fault kinda because I have a really high pain tolerance, and I didn't want to pay another session so I do my best to get it done in one session

I had a fairly well paying job in the start of my twenties, about a year in i started a sleeve on my left arm as i had about the amount needed to spare every couple months, had that job for about 2.5 years, then suddenly was laid off unexpectedly and without warning, its about 4 years since then.. im chronically ill, (have been since i was 14, and im 27 this year) and my health took as turn after i got laid off, as i got much more depressed than i thought loosing my job would make me, and ive never regained back my health to the same level as i had in that job, which means now living mostly hand to mouth and I've yet to have money to finish the shading in the background to stop it looking like stickers and more a cohesive tattoo (a load of Mario, Zelda, Pokémon and cartoon character emblems and items from my childhood, very colourful and bright, and with a free hand drawn in almost Japanese esq grey smoke in the background, but it stops, in luckily in a fairly 'natural' way, around my bicep, and not all the way up past my shoulder as its supposed to..) so that stuff about the money, i would say is uncalled for as sometimes life happens.. felt like a 'tattoos are only for those whom i feel are deserving and if you couldnt save up money for it the you're not one of them'
I am watching your old tat videos because I am making blue prints for mine based upon collective advice. I love your short hair, you're beautiful with both, but I feel the short hair fits your aesthetic. An opinion just an opinion though, live your best life.

My question tho is What about a sleeve tattoo that has different stuff on it? What about tattoo sleeve that does not have a theme to it or a tattoo sleeve that has different types of tattoos on it like a sleeve with a superhero tattoo, a flower tattoo , a Harry Potter tattoo, etc?
So I have been getting my left leg tattoo for the last 3-4 years, and I did realize I was getting a patchwork sleeve. So now I have some space to fill, should I just get background or filler? I have probably one gap I can fill

I have mostly decided what I want in my sleeves. Japanese theme is one of my favorites. My left arm has a dragon on the upper arm. I’m just worried about size versus detail.

I have a question.. I have lost 55 kg in the past 9 months and would love to start with a tattoo sleeve. but since I have lost that much weight I have some loose skin on my arms.. do you thinks that would be a problem for the artist for applying?? it would be a shame if the tattoo would me messy..
