I think its extraordinary that at 4 people they are faster than the old videos with only three people (Tom/Zee/Sam). Its fast, everyone is prepared, its engaging. Some back for forth but never anything mean or uncomfortable. All around amazing work. Thank you Tom and crew! ❤️
The most irritating thing about boardgaming these days is how everything is "catch it while you can", and maximising early funding cash flow. Like, could we just go back to mainstream production, damn it. Monopoly never goes out of print (maybe even excessively in print) - why not some of these great games? On top of all that, international supply is soooooo frustrating for some of these kickstarter stuff.

I gotta admit ... I miss the old countdown. It was always so fun to see the little guy escape from the pile of rubble, and the voice countdown was awesome. In the new version, watching all the little cubes move around and get to the countdown is kind of like waiting out ads to get over. Having said that, I can see there was a ton of work put into this new countdown, and the colored cubes are eye-catching. I'm sure I'm in a minority about this. :)

I love these Top 10 lists. I watch almost all of the reviews from the Dice Tower (you do cover more games than anyone) and I'm getting to know each reviewer better and better. I still feel I'm really close to Zee, but now also thinking Mike has very similar tastes too. Thanks for all the work over the year and sharing your fun with us.
Glad to see Mezo hit at least one Top 10 list. It's a cool, different area control game that I'm surprised didn't really get any buzz when it released.
Dwellings was sort of like Vindication, where it was largely missed in the first campaign. Much like Vindication, we will see another kickstarter and likely expansions
@@npckse8508 Will it have expansions? It seems like a very complete game with a fair amount of variability without feeling bloated. My concern would be that adding more would dilute the overall product. Additionally, I hope they don't go the same direction as Vindication. Talk about a bloat of middling expansion content.

Great video! On all the top 10s from DT and other channels so far I am surprised by the lack of love of true euros this year, no Tekhenu, Bonfire, Alma Mater, Tuscany, Hallertau, Praga, Tawantinsuyu on a lot of these lists. I know some are just getting to the US now.
Suggestion for Audio Levels: Love the new numbers transitions for the countdown but their volume is almost double than the volume of the rest of the video. With headphones is more annoying than anything.

Mezo is absolutely amazing. The way it handles turn orders, and troop majority is so much fun. If Mezo had better cardboard components and the blue and green more distinct it would have been regarded higher I think. I will also say Mike might have gotten a dwarf confused with trolls!

These are most likely going to be be my next 2 purchases, if I can get my hands on Dwellings, I'm looking for a deluxe copy. Sold-out in one afternoon in my local store... On game your probably haven't play because of how late it came out this year and it's limited production, is Red Cathedral. At first, it didn't attract me much, but now that I saw a 15 minutes presentation... I want to try it bad! Will definitely look at your surprises and next 10 video! Keep up the good work!!

After waiting for it since October 2019 I finally picked up a copy this March, three days into the first lockdown and its sat there unplayed ever since. 😪 I know that it can be played online but its such a tactile game I feel too much will be lost, so I can wait. Of course we also waiting to play Pandemic 0, King's Dilemma, Jaws of the Lion, Dune Imperial.... 😭
Great fun list as always! I really didn't like 2020 as a whole though for games, granted had I been including reprints/reimplementations/standalone expansions, it would have been a better year overall. But most of my favourite games were basically those and I treated Isle of Cats as 2019 as I think we in the UK got it last year before you guys so even that couldn't count for my list. However, the UK has not had a lot of titles released yet such as Honey Buzz, Praga, Dune Imperium, Whistle Mountain etc and some of those I'm very keen to get played. Dwellings was really good but I wouldn't marry it! :P The combat and lack of card variety hurt it enough to postpone a wedding ceremony! :P 4000+ games came out but only a couple hundred are good! :P However not putting Lost Ruins of Arnak on this list is criminal!! This is why Retrospective Top 10 of the Year lists are so good to do! :P

Been unable to get The Crew to the table, my group always picks other games. It's not easy to pitch "You play as astronauts playing number with limited communication". And i know people are not gonna be stoked right away as the first mission is an easy tutorial. I feel like the game would benefit from a theme that made the limited communication make sense. Like bekng shipwrecked on different islands and having to communicate via smoke signals.

People watch these to see what new games to buy. If I can't buy it, it might as well be an unreleased alpha. That's great if it's fun, let us know when we can actually play it. They're literally unplayable to us and are functionally indistinguishable from a preview, even if the only mechanism still up in the air is how to get it into people's hands. It's just frustrating when the topic is ostensibly "best new games you should go play right now", you hype something up, and then I look into it and realize that there's no feasible way an average gamer like me can play it anytime soon. Previews should be a separate topic.
I love these 4. They’re the face of the dice tower now. But the audio level are all off throughout the video. I can’t judge it too much though since it’s over zoom or whatever

I had to laugh about how excited Roy got talking Dune Imperium, his energy convinced me to take a closer look at this game. I don't really need the upgrade pieces, but I wish the game board wouldn't look so bland, because a nice board is what usually draws me in the most when I'm looking at a new game. That's probably why it flew under my radar initially, but I've heard so many good things about it, now I have to check it out!
@@JoeyjojoShabadoo7 Dune: Imperium is a completely different game from the original Dune board game. You probably got confused because the original Dune board game finally a reprint last year for the first time in several decades.
Nice selection with Monumental but oh that rule book could have been better. It has been a while since having to go to BGG to clear so many setup and rules confusion related questions. Hopefully the rulebook and setup guide are more clear in the next release. On the plus side glad to see Beyond the Sun make the list. Such an amazing game.
Spot on with Isle of Cats - such a perfected marriage of seen before and the most charming presentation ever. And i dont even like cats and this is my no 1 game of 2020.
Really, really enjoy In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Has that "just one more go!" factor. I think they key appeal is that, even though it isn't a fully 'heavy' game, you are always making decisions that feel very impactful. Unlike, say, games like Viticulture where you tend to coast along a bit more. My only grumble is that the random powers that each player gets at the start, if using the Champions edition, are very unequal - so much so, that the game includes a mechanism where you're meant to record which ones are chosen less so that you can slowly increase their value.
Great wrong content as always but I think the audio volume of the countdown is too high. With every countdown I have to lower the volume and then raise again after a while to be able to hear you. Annoying especially when I watch your videos at night when the rest of my family is sleeping. But it was entertaining as always 🥰

Surprised that Jaws of the Lion wasn’t on either Tom or Mike’s list. I remember Tom said that it’s a 10/10 game and Mike said this was the Gloomhaven game made for him. I didn’t play all of the 2020 games but was it really that good of a year for games? Curious to hear their thoughts!

Good list. Would be great if prior to the "Top 100 Games of all time" you could sort/normalize the sound a bit. Roy seemed louder than the rest.. Mike was really quiet... and sometimes the music was way louder than everyone! :)
guys, please invest more attention in setting the sound, Roy shouting over everyone is very painful to listen to, as well as spikes in the level of sound in countdown - I understand that it's not intentional, but it's one of the most watched top-10s, I just have tried to watch it for the 3rd time - and it's painful to skip part of it because of the volume levels.
It’s a 99% the same reprint save for the mechanics, which are mostly fluff. It’s like if they put a painted copy of Marvel United on their list next year because Zee painted his set.
You guys made a tough decision even harder: Trying to decide whether to get Dwellings of Eldervale or Dune: Imperium to the table tomorrow night. Have to pause our Pandemic Season 0 campaign since one of the players can't make it.
@@ThunderStruck15 Not silly at all. If you haven't played a legacy game before, I would start with Season 1. It's the easiest to get into due to the similarity with base Pandemic. If you are comfortable with legacy games, then Season 0 is a fine entry point. We've only completed April so far so I can't compare them as a whole. I enjoyed Season 2 but would play it last.

I was on headphones and didn't notice any difference in audio. Of course I might just have terrible headphones. lol.

@@goodsound4756 This would make far more sense if any of Pandasaurus (an actual sponsors) games were heavily populated on their lists. In fact I am not sure any of their top 10s included a Pandasaurus game.

People watch these to see what new games to buy. If I can't buy it, it might as well be an unreleased alpha. That's great if it's fun, let us know when we can actually play it. They're literally unplayable to us and are functionally indistinguishable from a preview, even if the only mechanism still up in the air is how to get it into people's hands.
It's just frustrating when the topic is ostensibly "best new games you should go play right now", you hype something up, and then I look into it and realize that there's no feasible way an average gamer like me can play it anytime soon. Previews should be a separate topic.
I love these 4. They’re the face of the dice tower now. But the audio level are all off throughout the video. I can’t judge it too much though since it’s over zoom or whatever

I had to laugh about how excited Roy got talking Dune Imperium, his energy convinced me to take a closer look at this game.
I don't really need the upgrade pieces, but I wish the game board wouldn't look so bland, because a nice board is what usually draws me in the most when I'm looking at a new game.
That's probably why it flew under my radar initially, but I've heard so many good things about it, now I have to check it out!

@@JoeyjojoShabadoo7 Dune: Imperium is a completely different game from the original Dune board game. You probably got confused because the original Dune board game finally a reprint last year for the first time in several decades.
Nice selection with Monumental but oh that rule book could have been better. It has been a while since having to go to BGG to clear so many setup and rules confusion related questions. Hopefully the rulebook and setup guide are more clear in the next release. On the plus side glad to see Beyond the Sun make the list. Such an amazing game.

Really, really enjoy In The Hall Of The Mountain King. Has that "just one more go!" factor. I think they key appeal is that, even though it isn't a fully 'heavy' game, you are always making decisions that feel very impactful. Unlike, say, games like Viticulture where you tend to coast along a bit more. My only grumble is that the random powers that each player gets at the start, if using the Champions edition, are very unequal - so much so, that the game includes a mechanism where you're meant to record which ones are chosen less so that you can slowly increase their value.

Great wrong content as always but I think the audio volume of the countdown is too high. With every countdown I have to lower the volume and then raise again after a while to be able to hear you. Annoying especially when I watch your videos at night when the rest of my family is sleeping.
But it was entertaining as always 🥰

Surprised that Jaws of the Lion wasn’t on either Tom or Mike’s list. I remember Tom said that it’s a 10/10 game and Mike said this was the Gloomhaven game made for him. I didn’t play all of the 2020 games but was it really that good of a year for games? Curious to hear their thoughts!
Jaws of the Lion made my "sequel/remake" list.
It’s a fantastic game. I kept it off the list since I consider it an iteration of Gloomhaven rather than a new 2020 release.
Intros sound level could be a bit lower. Too loud comparing to other audio.

Would be great if prior to the "Top 100 Games of all time" you could sort/normalize the sound a bit. Roy seemed louder than the rest.. Mike was really quiet... and sometimes the music was way louder than everyone! :)

guys, please invest more attention in setting the sound, Roy shouting over everyone is very painful to listen to, as well as spikes in the level of sound in countdown - I understand that it's not intentional, but it's one of the most watched top-10s, I just have tried to watch it for the 3rd time - and it's painful to skip part of it because of the volume levels.

It’s a 99% the same reprint save for the mechanics, which are mostly fluff. It’s like if they put a painted copy of Marvel United on their list next year because Zee painted his set.

You guys made a tough decision even harder: Trying to decide whether to get Dwellings of Eldervale or Dune: Imperium to the table tomorrow night. Have to pause our Pandemic Season 0 campaign since one of the players can't make it.

@@ThunderStruck15 Not silly at all. If you haven't played a legacy game before, I would start with Season 1. It's the easiest to get into due to the similarity with base Pandemic. If you are comfortable with legacy games, then Season 0 is a fine entry point. We've only completed April so far so I can't compare them as a whole. I enjoyed Season 2 but would play it last.
@@michaelcreek3813 Dune that night as we had 4 players knowing that a 5th player would join this past Thursday for Dwellings. Dwellings and Dune are my #1 and #2 for 2020, respectively. Eager to try Lost Ruins or Arnak which is arriving today.
